It seems like a Launch rebrand, which is nice but a little expensive for the market today. What does the Identifix subscription include? I can't imagine it's a complete subscription that's around 2K a year!

What a very nice and concise review. We have an Autel and Snap on Versus at work. For the money this has been a great back up/ extra scanner. It is very intuitive and continues to surprise us as to functionality.
With this tool can you access tcm live data and control shift solenoids and stuff like that in the transmission? ie: tcc lockup solenoid and clutch slippage data. Stuff like that? Or is it just engine diagnostics
Maybe a dumb question but does this reset annual service intervals on motorcycles? I know the SnapOn does and the dealer charges $200-$300 to reset the service light after I do the maintenance.
I own 4 motorcycles and I have need had to have a tool to reset annual maintenance nor have I ever got codes for them……. You must have a special pain in the ass motorcycle different from the rest of the world

Thanks for checking out Fresh Vintage Garage! Harbor Freight will provide firmware updates for this unit for a while (years to come), and the software updates for OEMs will be 2 years minimum. After the 2-year mark vehicles will still scan, however for brand new model year vehicles you would possibly see a fee for the most up-to-date software to be downloaded and installed (for OEM specific software) - standard OBD2 code reading should be fine until the end of time so to speak 👍
Looking at purchasing an icon t10 for our personal us on our vehicles and our kids vehicles. Was curious will it check modules such as fuel pump module as well as fuel pump itself
What I need to know is in the 2019 chevy silverados when you do the brakes will this reset it so it don’t have to go to to dealer because when you do them the dash goes haywire

You hit on a very valix point. I bought the Autel MX808 (pro I think) and it's so painfully SLOWWW that I don't even use it. Used it like 4 times and now it just sits in the case on a shelf. I should sell it but I dunno I may need it for something my cheap one can't do. I'll definitely check out Icons T8 for sure.

Have had nothing but issues with it. Problems with it not communicating, sometimes not picking up basic modules like ABS on certain models. Fighting with the store so I don't have to pay a restocking fee. You know its bad when the dated Matco Maxlite it was bought to replace can still run circles around it while it's being phased out.

Based on what we have seen the T8 will only do OBD2 based code scanning, and my guess is an upper limit of 350/3500 and 450/4500 series trucks. Heavy duty requiring specialized connectors for each OEM (Volvo/Mack) will not be possible with the T8 👍
I work at Ford and all of our newer vehicles (2022 and up) use FDRS which is a cloud based system, do you think this product will work on them? And on the older ones can you do power balance/pids things of that type of nature with this tool? I’m very curious because I’m looking at all options right now because I want my own.
Also speaking on the diesel side of things (mainly what I do) can you run a manual regen of even a def injector flow test? I have so many questions sorry lol I just want to make sure I buy the best product for my needs. Thank you

This definitely looks like a rebranded Launch scanner or a Thinkcar scanner made for HF for the Icon brand! Till this day nothing is more solid than the high quality Topdon scanners especial the Topdon Phoenix Plus at around the same price as this one with Topology which this scanner doesn't have and cheaper on e. bay or full price of $1,300 on ama.zon. Topdon is solid for any Master mechanic!

I want to buy a 2013 Mercedes E 550. A lot of them have low mileage for the age in NC. NC is in the top 10 for clocking. Will the T8 read ECU's (40+ on the 550) stored mileage to confirm the odometer? I'd like the warm and fuzzies before I spend money on Carfaxs and pre-purchase inspections. Plus I can use the T8 for DIY...

So it’s a 900 scan tool for reading things. Interesting my 50 scanner works on a 2020 ram 1500 and I can make changes behind the gateway…. Icon can not get around gateways nor is it part of autel auto

I would call this a starter scan tool. No one scanner can do everything. All scan tools have holes in the software. Once they get topology on it and decent key programming.
You would not believe how much of a challenge key programming is on scan tools - we've found more than one tool that has key programming listed in the software but did not actually program the key...
Do you know if this will do the ABS bleeding on the F150's (I think it's 17 and up?) We have a '19 and from what I'm gathering, no ones can because of the IDS (I think that's what it's called?) from Ford? I have tools that can do the abs bleed on my son's Mazda and my '19 Fusion, but nothing touches the F150 :(

Overall it's solid and capable. We were a little disappointed it does not have topology, but also wonder if that will be an exclusive T10 feature. With a little "polish" of the software by Harbor Freight (it's 99% now just needs a tiny bit more polish so to speak so the software is 100% fluid and smooth) and we would put this up against any TopDon, Autel, Snapon, Launch and all the rest of the scan tools out there 💯

No idea who makes the software, it does not look like LAUNCH or AUTEL? No count of modules and no TOPOLOGY which is a must today. Does it show NOT INSTALLED modules which might show not installed if totally DEAD but installed? Is the entire ALLDATA available for the 2 years? What is the face value of ALLDATA for a 2-year subscription? How many Maintenance RESETs, seems to be manual reset instructions only? How many BIDIRECTIONAL controls, needs to be close to 40? Seems like it cannot do TPMS programming as you mentioned manual instructions only, does every vehicle have a manual setup? I believe that a tool review when a mechanic does not understand the tool to a high degree of knowledge is NO TOOL REVIEW, it takes many vehicles and many weeks of use as a minimum. You mentioned trying it on a few vehicles and you tried ONE. I doubt any module programming can be done without going online and possibly need a VCI adaptor also? You did not mention tech support since you just opened the box. The second half of your video title is fine but comparing it to an older model is wrong as you just got it. Is ADAS turned on or is that an extra payment later? Chinese tools are well known for not giving everything that they show on the screen or the box. By the time you subtract the value of 2 years of ALLDATA, this tool is not worth much and does not do much from what your video shows, there are much nicer tools available for under $400, cheers. Maybe in the future, you can do a proper REVIEW video and actually mention the tasks that the tool will not do to be fair. Most UA-camrs don't want to be honest about the tool's capabilities since it was free and they want more free tools in the future, very unfair to the viewers IMHO.
Your right TOPOLOGY is a absolute must no if or but about it and ALLDATA should be made available to everyone for free sponsored by OEM them self since they no longer provide schematics and data like old days and only make it available to dealers which is all about $$$$.
We understand where are you coming from here, but just wait until the Icon T7 and T10 Scan Tools come out - Harbor Freight will then have a serious scan tool for most any price point and customers from DIY'ers up to full shop owners; 2024 is going to be an interesting year for scan tools!

I just want a scan tool so I can replace a part with a working part and not have a Mismatch vin code still in it. None of these scan tools are worth it if they can not reprogram or flash for used and new parts. How useless.

Sorry but you didn’t show anything everyone talk about the same sensor o2 sensor makes no sense, need to show power balance relative compression live data from ftp/fuel rail pressure/maf/vct actual pida that veh have now days and show powerful information and perform actual test and live data if you’re going to promote a scanner not just scroll through screens just saying I know you can do better than this

Unfortunately we're not able to show you a lot of the things you mentioned above unless we actually have a car in our possession that has a check engine light on with these specific issues (believe me we tried to access these things, and unfortunately the software will not allow us to go into any given OEM unless we have the scan tool hooked up to a vehicle with that specific issue going on) 👍
Um, have you ever seen an autel? They have $1800+ models that do not have topology. Topology is overrated anyways. It's a nice additional feature to have, but is not necessary at all. For decades topology did not even exist and everyone was just fine.
@@victorhoyt4352 yes I know autel but that's autel one of the market leader in the scan tool business so they don't give crap when they know tech's across the country will buy one of their products just because of the name. If harbor freight wants to make a dent it's gotta up the game by offering more at a lower price. But why I brought up the question on why no topology? Is because even the $550 xtool d8 has topology.

The new Icon smoke machine is very high quality but lacks a few features and so the Autool SDT-206 destroys it by far in highest quality, price and features!
We all can confirm that the Icon scanner's UI looks very outdated and trash! What scanner loads up and starts on the Android apps home page? My Phoenix Plus goes straight to the eye candy feature menu, heck I don't even know If i can even go to the apps menu but I know it can!

No this does not need a subscription to function - we have used it on multiple vehicles and it has worked well 👍

After the subscription is expired does it lose some functions of the scan tool like on other tablets

I have the mp808 autel and its pretty good.
So if you work on a lot of Jeep, Ram, Chrysler , you may be disappointed as it isn't on the auto auth listing of approved scan tools

I work at Ford and all of our newer vehicles (2022 and up) use FDRS which is a cloud based system, do you think this product will work on them? And on the older ones can you do power balance/pids things of that type of nature with this tool? I’m very curious because I’m looking at all options right now because I want my own.
Also speaking on the diesel side of things (mainly what I do) can you run a manual regen of even a def injector flow test? I have so many questions sorry lol I just want to make sure I buy the best product for my needs. Thank you
Per Icon the T8 does not work with IDS. It is capable of doing a power balance test. For further questions I would recommend you email Icon tech help directly at icondiagnostics@harborfreight.com

This definitely looks like a rebranded Launch scanner or a Thinkcar scanner made for HF for the Icon brand! Till this day nothing is more solid than the high quality Topdon scanners especial the Topdon Phoenix Plus at around the same price as this one with Topology which this scanner doesn't have and cheaper on e. bay or full price of $1,300 on ama.zon. Topdon is solid for any Master mechanic!

Topdon has alot of issues. I have 2 and they lose all there info and I have to re-download it all the time. Not impressed.

@@wildeauto34 Seems you got the Chinese version with English language. Must be the USA version. Mine works flawless and have fixed plenty of BMW issues and coded plenty of modules with ease!

I want to buy a 2013 Mercedes E 550. A lot of them have low mileage for the age in NC. NC is in the top 10 for clocking. Will the T8 read ECU's (40+ on the 550) stored mileage to confirm the odometer? I'd like the warm and fuzzies before I spend money on Carfaxs and pre-purchase inspections. Plus I can use the T8 for DIY...
Per Icon “We do support reading mileage if and when provided as the modules it’s displayed from can vary. The T8 during the all system code scan will tell you what modules it can detect, see and have access to on the vehicle.”

I would call this a starter scan tool. No one scanner can do everything. All scan tools have holes in the software. Once they get topology on it and decent key programming.
You would not believe how much of a challenge key programming is on scan tools - we've found more than one tool that has key programming listed in the software but did not actually program the key...

Do you know if this will do the ABS bleeding on the F150's (I think it's 17 and up?) We have a '19 and from what I'm gathering, no ones can because of the IDS (I think that's what it's called?) from Ford? I have tools that can do the abs bleed on my son's Mazda and my '19 Fusion, but nothing touches the F150 :(

Subscription cost for Icon T8 is...according to several videos on UA-cam will be $600/yr. I hope not correct, too much for DIY.
We won’t know exactly until it has been out for a year but $600 sounds about right. The T8 is geared more for the professional. The T7 coming out early Fall will be more for the heavy DIY.

Hi thanks for checking out Fresh Vintage Garage and subscribing! ☺️ Honest feedback on the T8 here: Harbor Freight is definitely upping their game with the Icon T8 Scan Tool! Overall it's solid and capable. We were a little disappointed it does not have topology, but also wonder if that will be an exclusive T10 feature. With a little "polish" of the software by Harbor Freight (it's 99% now just needs a tiny bit more polish so to speak so the software is 100% fluid and smooth) and we would put this up against any TopDon, Autel, Snapon, Launch and all the rest of the scan tools out there 💯
@@FreshVintageGarageAt this price it is competing with OtoFix Max, but havent been able to reach OtoFix USA (Autel is parent) for past 2 weeks so the T10 icon having an in-person location, topology, and depending on update cost (~$100 each time?) may well be new budget bidirectional scan tool winner if 25% coupon makes it $900.
No idea who makes the software, it does not look like LAUNCH or AUTEL? No count of modules and no TOPOLOGY which is a must today. Does it show NOT INSTALLED modules which might show not installed if totally DEAD but installed? Is the entire ALLDATA available for the 2 years? What is the face value of ALLDATA for a 2-year subscription? How many Maintenance RESETs, seems to be manual reset instructions only? How many BIDIRECTIONAL controls, needs to be close to 40? Seems like it cannot do TPMS programming as you mentioned manual instructions only, does every vehicle have a manual setup?
I believe that a tool review when a mechanic does not understand the tool to a high degree of knowledge is NO TOOL REVIEW, it takes many vehicles and many weeks of use as a minimum. You mentioned trying it on a few vehicles and you tried ONE. I doubt any module programming can be done without going online and possibly need a VCI adaptor also? You did not mention tech support since you just opened the box. The second half of your video title is fine but comparing it to an older model is wrong as you just got it. Is ADAS turned on or is that an extra payment later? Chinese tools are well known for not giving everything that they show on the screen or the box.
By the time you subtract the value of 2 years of ALLDATA, this tool is not worth much and does not do much from what your video shows, there are much nicer tools available for under $400, cheers.
Maybe in the future, you can do a proper REVIEW video and actually mention the tasks that the tool will not do to be fair. Most UA-camrs don't want to be honest about the tool's capabilities since it was free and they want more free tools in the future, very unfair to the viewers IMHO.
Your right TOPOLOGY is a absolute must no if or but about it and ALLDATA should be made available to everyone for free sponsored by OEM them self since they no longer provide schematics and data like old days and only make it available to dealers which is all about $$$$.
It uses Identifix, not Alldata.

We understand where are you coming from here, but just wait until the Icon T7 and T10 Scan Tools come out - Harbor Freight will then have a serious scan tool for most any price point and customers from DIY'ers up to full shop owners; 2024 is going to be an interesting year for scan tools!

I just want a scan tool so I can replace a part with a working part and not have a Mismatch vin code still in it. None of these scan tools are worth it if they can not reprogram or flash for used and new parts. How useless.

Unfortunately we're not able to show you a lot of the things you mentioned above unless we actually have a car in our possession that has a check engine light on with these specific issues (believe me we tried to access these things, and unfortunately the software will not allow us to go into any given OEM unless we have the scan tool hooked up to a vehicle with that specific issue going on) 👍

That is correct no topology from what we saw in the T8, however Harbor Freight confirmed the T10 will have topology as a standard feature.
Um, have you ever seen an autel? They have $1800+ models that do not have topology. Topology is overrated anyways. It's a nice additional feature to have, but is not necessary at all. For decades topology did not even exist and everyone was just fine.
@@victorhoyt4352 yes I know autel but that's autel one of the market leader in the scan tool business so they don't give crap when they know tech's across the country will buy one of their products just because of the name. If harbor freight wants to make a dent it's gotta up the game by offering more at a lower price. But why I brought up the question on why no topology? Is because even the $550 xtool d8 has topology.

The new Icon smoke machine is very high quality but lacks a few features and so the Autool SDT-206 destroys it by far in highest quality, price and features!
We all can confirm that the Icon scanner's UI looks very outdated and trash! What scanner loads up and starts on the Android apps home page? My Phoenix Plus goes straight to the eye candy feature menu, heck I don't even know If i can even go to the apps menu but I know it can!
Does it need to be connected to WiFi for a test drive?
