The 1996-2000 GMT400 CK and the same vintage ST chassis ABS along with some GM AMG 6.5 diesel PCM functions present a challenge for many aftermarket diagnostic tools. Snap-On lacked reliable GM ABS bleed function on these til @2010ish software bundles. I own a Tech2 but a tablet tool with sensor graphing in the arsenal would be darn nice. I'd be interested to see how the Icon lineup does with these 1990's GM trucks & SUVs.
Just ordered my T7 to give it a shot at having a bi direction scanner on a budget. I did some comparisons on a bunch on amazon, temu, and aliexpress and this T7. The T7 cost was cheaper then all of the cheap "comparisons and alternatives" plus they all were running older Android software. Average unit was $400-$500 which at that point might as well get the T8. So I opted for the T7 while it was on sale for $350. Came to about $378 after shipping and tax. Not too shabby and will be at least similar to previous Solus scanners i used to use in shops.
@@FreshVintageGaragedo you have an example of something that will stop working? I'm just a diy guy with a ford and a Chrysler that I'll use a few times a year. With updates as much as the tool I can't see doing the updates. Does it basically revert to a $50 scan tool or can you still do more advanced stuff like tpms programming or releasing an e-brake? Or do you just lose new updates to functionality? I currently just have a Bluetooth dongle that lets me clear and read codes. Thanks!
Is everything your showing us only with a subscription? What if I don’t renew the subscription what will I be able to do with the scanner. What about throttle relearn?
The subscription gives access to future updates for models of cars/ bug fixes otherwise it will work as normal when expires just don’t get updates if a new model vehicle is out etc.
Thanks for watching! The ICON scan tools will still read codes if you do not renew the software subscription; it is only the deeper diagnostics that will not be available. The ICON scan tools will all perform a throttle re-learn as well.
Thanks for the review! Im a master tech at a Carvana inspection facility. Im going to purchase a T7 with my tool bonus coming at the end of the year. The shop had company owned autel scanners that will do everything under the sun but they are bulky. I enjoy something like the T7 because its lighter and i can walk around the facility with it diagnosing cars on the fly 😂
I was thinking about purchasing a vehicle from carvana. I was wondering when they fix their cars if they usually fully fix every problem? Not do work arounds like 02 spacers and that sort of thing

Can the T7 calibrate/align the 360 surround cameras on Kias? I've got a '22 Kia Stinger GT2 and had to replace the front camera (a stone got kicked up and hit the camera - hey at least it didn't take out the windshield with the HUD projection layer) and need to align the views to make it seamless again. It's around $500 for the dealer to do it, so I may as well buy a T7 (or spend a little more for the T8) and have a tool for future maintenance and mods.

This is plug and play ready for you right out of the box 😊 We would recommend you unbox it, charge it, register it and then update all firmware and software before using it though.

Hey thanks for watching! Honestly, I'm not sure if that vintage of GM cars would have bi-directional control... We normally think of it backwards in the sense of the scan tool will only interact with the car in the way you wanted to (Example if the OEM manufacturer added that technology and software into the car at the factory). We get that question a lot with people wanting to know if the scan tool will read the temperature of the transmission, and the scan tool will only provide that information if the transmission has a temperature sensor installed from the factory. I'd say read up on the year make and model cars you're looking to use the scan tool on to confirm if they have CAN support and then buy the corresponding scan tool 👍👍
@FreshVintageGarage hey thanks a lot friend. Yes the topic of scan tool vs scam tool comes up a lot. Obviously the pcm can see everything, and things like hp tuner can log most of it. Scan tools to me are complicated, and as a hobbyist , I can not justify spending many thousands on a snap-on tool . Cars are my hobby and that's it. Rooting around in a pcm is just a game 😂
Do you mean change the upper limits of what the TPMS sensors are programmed for? If so then no, the ICON series scan tools only have manual instructions for TPMS sensors relearn/resets in them, with no ability to diagnose or reprogram anything in the TPMS system 👍

Do have the same question. I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado with service 4wd. Had a shop clear it but do want the ability to clear it with the T7. Also on a 2002 trailblazer. I was looking to see if this will clear the TCCM?
I haven't seen barely any coverage of the T7 even though it was dropped not long after the T10. You're like the only ones I've seen and it's been weeks. It looks interesting, and the price is definitely much more palatable, but as much as I would want it I dont think I'd be satisfied with it long-term; I feel you can get more capable tablets for the same amount of money. However, I have heard people say the software of the Icon tablets is a bit more "polished" than some others such as Autel or Launch, but I cant verify that personally since I'm still trying to decide what to go with.

Hello yes all of our scan tools came with a paper in the box that you had to open (like a paper check) and inside there was a serial number and I believe an activation code. Deserved a like!! And sub! Don’t know if this scanner and rest an electric power steering red light warning reset on a 2014 Toyota Camry. A ground wire was no connected back on responsible for the electric power steering and when the car was turned back on we lost power steering so just wondering if this scanner can fix it
It is pretty annoying that everything runs thru a computer like the horn that mean it is not directly connected obviously aside from fuese and relays but you can have some other stupid failure that wouldn't be a problem otherwise but now you have to spend hundreds likely thousands because of that

The deeper diagnostics will not work those are the main ones; the regular code reading and live data graphing will still work fine 👍

The vehicle we initially checked had a manual parking brake. If the vehicle has an EPB it will work with it.

Yes you should be able to, pending the F350 has a temp sensor built into the evap system (these scan tools only show what is built into the vehicle).

Per Team ICON: There is a torque sensor zero point calibration that the ICON Scan tool can perform after servicing the power steering system.

You should be hooked to the Wi-Fi and ready to display what you’re doing and it’s no good to us if you’re not ready
