As a 1000 hour commander the best piece of advice I have for you is whenever possible, station all of your most vocal and cooperative squad leaders on the defensive cap. That way you will have a much better chance of knowing whenever an airhead or enemy supplies are dropped so you can act accordingly and also there is a much higher chance their squad will stay with them. Having squad leaders who don't communicate much on the offensive is no where near as bad as having squad leaders who don't communicate on the defensive.
OMG so Truu. I also realized that when you relay commands like “Fall back” to squad leads. Also do it in text chat. For those members who don’t talk they sometimes looks at the chat. Gets them to check the map and fall back.
Really still trying to figure out what possesses people to attempt to play a pretty Sim version of a WW2 game where comms is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. Kinda blows my mind to be honest. I get people just wanna vibe sometimes, but the game is so much better when the chaos is managed with great comms across the whole team.
Had my first game as Commander last night and it was surprisingly not that bad.. everyone was super helpful. Then I played a second game and everyone was screaming at me so i redeployed as a rifleman. lol
good matches very much depend on the toxicity of the team. i started a few months back and saw 0 toxicity for a few months, then all hell broke loose with some sale and some update
Same as me dude lol. First game every SL was listening and we destroyed. 2nd came, same thing hahah. Showed me being commander is nothing to be intimidated by tho.
@@filipbujaroski9221 I can attest to that. First game last night as a Squad Leader was good. Giving out simple commands and figuring out the role, all was going well until the other leaders, AND commander all got into some crazy, childish fight which resulted in the Commander not giving us a SINGLE thing. We were steamrolled that game.
As a commander I ALWAYS use the half track as my command vehicle either me driving it myself, or having someone drive me around. You can pull up to a good spot, turn the engine off, check your map for commands, and also being a mobile spawn point. Half track is heavily underrated
I had a game recently where the enemy commander used the recon vehicle to be chauffeured around the map. If you have a good and responsive tank squad that is so op. You are mobile, have firepower to clear and defend airdrops and that build in spotting ability of the recon vehicle.
Lvl 115 and still haven’t tried commander. I’m pretty good at squad lead and comfortable with what needs doing. Mostly find myself having to take the roll cause no one else will. I get a buzz though when I have a good squad and find other players thrive on encouragement and praise. I always give instructions and look for alternative options from the squad if somethings not working. Communication is vital for a cohesive squad if the commander issues instructions I always relay them to my squad even if it’s not directed at us, I find once everyone is clued in it makes for a much better experience.
I find myself doing the exact same thing lmao I just tried commander for the first time today and it was a good experience I didn’t want to punch a wall having to deal with the absolute bullshit that is red chat green chat blue chat and white chat at the same time
Im rank 115 and finally got the balls to play commander. Only played two matches but got the win on both. Man at first its a lot but when it flows its an amazing feeling. Good squad leaders make a huge difference.
I do agree with everything mentioned here, GREAT "how to" but one thing I would like to highlight more that you barely hit on, Squad Leads can be the driving force for Garry placement as well. So long as you have good squad leads. I do wish HLL would put a cap requirement on players being able to be SQLD or Commander, or put tutorials in that are required prior to being able to do these things. Too many teams of good players get let down by poor leadership. And as someone that is a good player, I don't ALWAYS want to be a SQLD or commander.
Same. I’ll end up being SL because most time I can’t rely on other squads to place garrisons all the time. When running command it’s like pulling teeth sometimes to get a SL to place a garrison for me. Also don’t understand why engineers aren’t building nodes. It’s the simplest thing and you get hella points at the end for it.
It's always annoying to see a squad with 5/6 players, and the empty spot is an officer role. Always makes me feel like I have to step in and take it, especially with the weird leader drought on console.
Almost 100 rank. About to give it a try, but thought I'd check in here first. You helped me become a productive soldier/SL (although my KD may not always reflect that). Heck, I'll start as suppt/engineer just to get those dern nodes down.
I haven’t played commander all that much, but I would suggest anyone that wants to try it join an empty server and get your feet wet that way. Using the commander’s map can be difficult at first; the interface for placing abilities can be very awkward. At least learn how to drop supplies, call in a bombing run, spawn a tank, etc, before you try it in a server full of players.
Random squad leader 1 : We need more garrisons! Random squad leader 2 : Yeah, we do! Random squad leader 3: Agree Random squad leader 4: We def need more. - 15 minutes later no one built none
I honestly think there are a large percentage of squad leaders that don’t know that they can build garrisons. I’ve heard them on command chat asking the commander to build them.
You can't build them without supplies though, so as a SL I build my outpost and then am basically just like 🤷🏻♂️ with no supplies around anywhere to build one. I basically have to ask the commander to drop me supplies. You can mention it to your squad, but I've yet to have anyone play support and throw some down for me lol. As a support, I drop them down in a good spot for a garrison, hoping a different squad's support will match mine, so that a squad leader somewhere can make one, but that just.. seemingly never happens lol.
@@wileecoyoteee9416 That’s true, but I’ve seen squad leaders walk right by supplies on the ground and NOT build a garrison. They must not know how. When I play as Support, I’ll actually remind my squad leader that my supply box is ready to drop and ask them where. Some of them can’t even answer that simple question. When that happens, I’ll either drop them where I think they would be needed, or join a different squad with a better Officer. The level of basic competence in this game is terribly low, and I think it’s because of the lack of tutorials or instruction for new players.
@@singleproppilot Yeah that seems to happen sometimes too. I often let them know where I dropped it, and I try to drop it 200m away from other garrisons (1 map square is 200x200m to anyone reading who wasn't aware), so a new one can be built, unless I think we could use a barricade or something for an engineer to build. I've only been playing for 2 days, but it's crazy how many games will only have 2 garrisons built, when you can have 8!
I just left a frustrating match and came to watch this video instead. None of the squad leaders would put down any garrisons even though support players were dropping supplies. They just kept running forward endlessly because it seemed like we were winning caps. Then we all died and were stuck back at HQ. We didn't have a commander to help us build garrisons either. I really hope in a future update there's a super specialized loadout for support that allows it to build garrisons or something.
I think the only other use case for a strafing run is at the start of a match where you think there might be an enemy transport truck moving in along a straight road. A perfect example is the road east of town center on Carentan. It's easy to get upwards of 10 kills using this method and it can turn around the start of a match
Yep. I do this too. Expensive but can often get lucky by killing an SL or two before they get ops down preventing waves from contesting the first point right away. You really have to know the most common routes though.
Just had my first game as commander at lvl 80 and won against a lvl 200 commander who I know is good at it. Obviously I didn't know it was him until the end. Both teams were stacked evenly too. Best thing to do when starting out is tell the command chat straight away you're new and that you'll listen to them. The higher level SLs will be patient with you and appreciate that as well - which helps heaps with any frustration than can happen when playing with an inexperienced commander. Basically this game is about having good communication skills. If you have that you're set in any role.
I just played a game now as commander for the first time, I'm rank 25 or something. Nobody else wanted it so why not. First 10 or 15 minutes was pretty chaotic, I knew about supply drops and garrisons so I made sure we had a good spread of those, as the game went on we started winning, but by that point we ran out of time. I learned a LOT in 1 game, it was also SO FUN. Like playing an RTS game, but your units speak to you lol
usually, whenever i play commander, my squad leads ignore my order to build garrisons. they usually completely neglect them. i have to beg for nodes. and nobody wants to stay and defend the point. as soon as we capture an objective, everyone rushes to attack the next one and they leave ours undefended.
Honestly with all of the other forms of spawning I feel like half-tracks should instead be used how they were used during the war, which is supporting infantry. As it stands now infantry cannot do anything to advance on MG's set up in good positions other than smoke and advance (Which despite what some might think is a terrible way to advance), or wait for armor. And realistically the tanks you are given in game were way too valuable to waste against a single well-placed MG; the MG comes out way more cost-effective in this case. Half-Tracks would fill that perfect middle ground of being a cheap armored means of providing infantry support while also doubling as a troop transport. I know they are adding MG's to the half-tracks but for a cost of 300 the half-track really shouldn't even be putting itself in situations where they have to use their MG.
doubles the planes and parachutes therefore the risk of being spottet... or even more clearly identified as airhead (depending on visibility people can mistake it "just" for an allied supply drop)... I'd suggest or better advise the Squads to have a support with them (so at least 2 Supports )and so the first thing they do when spawned is drop their supplies
@@Liopleurodon that never happens, 2 support players dropping supplies in tandem is rare. I’ve seen the airhead supply drop combination used lots and 80-90 % of the time it works.
I usually drop supplies 2 minutes earlier because when I drop airhead I can drop supplies where I think enemies can be distracted, so they won't watch behind. I think sometimes it works, nobody looks at airheads, but I don't have that much data to say so
@@superandreanintendo I love to hunt down airheads and supplies, but yea it depends. I like dropping supplies at one area so they hear it, and the airhead in a dif spot to confuse.
I think every new player should watch this video. It explains a lot of things that I’ve been wondering for awhile. Just don’t play the commander if you’re new.
definitely gonna be a minute before i play commander lol i wanna make sure i understand the game fully. so far the medic has been my go to class, so much fun and everyone is thankful when you revive them 😂😂
I recently started to get pretty good at being a commander imo (most matches i win). Got 2 pieces of advice that always for me. Put 2 you most communucative squads on defence only taking them off to rotate them for another or if the attack is going well. Other advice is to not ask people to do things but tell them to do things. If they still dont do what you want them to do, ask anothet squad to do it while also calling out the disobeying squad out for not doing what you want them to do.
I'm lvl 29 and I had a match where not a single person was willing to be a commander, so as a private I decided to take up the job. All I did was sent supply drops, supply trucks, and the occasional tank. And after a few minutes quickly realized that we were going to lose because the squad leaders were not communicating and I was a shitty commander that only took up the job because no one wanted the responsibility.
I honestly watched that to have a better understanding on what is available to the commander, because I sometimes don't know what they have to deal with, and now I see that most of my games the commander is awful xD Maybe next time when nobody wants to play the commander I'll fill the role.
If you get all your wanted garrisons up (6-8) you can start dropping supply really deep in the 3rd or 4th enemy red zone as a preparation for later. It dosent happen often that you can do this.
Another golden tip for anyone in a Commander or Squad Lead position is: keep communicating and giving orders or even tactical information at all times. Sometimes people will not talk back for any given reason (e.g. mic broke or family matters) but they will respond and listen. Of course if you notice that’s not the case, kick them from the squad or join another squad/game.
I disagree. As a commander I maybe speak to the team 30 times in the entire game. When a commander talks all the time, people just learn to not listen because 90% of the information isn't immediately relevant to them. Keeping your communication concise and to the point makes sure the important messages get through.
My tipp s for new commmander. First learn squad leader. Then Check out commmander seat in the morning. On a server which is empty. Any time but Not prime time. And then try the abilitys and look at the menu with enough time. In my opinion warfare is the difucultesd. Beginn with the easy one, defense Team in offence mode. Have your mic on! Build garrys and work on the request of sl s. ✌🌻
I wish the game would link to this video. As a seasoned console player on this game, I find myself CONSTANTLY playing commander or squad lead simply because the other players are not competent in those roles to set the squad or entire team up for success. I hope that more players look for resources like this and educate themselves on these important roles.
Same, I end up playing SL pretty much every game now for same reasons you state, but I swear I would like to just play as a grunt under a good SL for a bit
I’m 5 days in playing he’ll let loose on PC. First 2-3-4 games I was HORRIBLE. Then somewhere about the 20-40 round mark I started being pushed into officer role and finding out that I was good at it and enjoyed it. I liked the feed back my squads were giving me so I started being the lead most of the time. Got to play as spotter and recon once. Tank twice. And then tonight I was pushed into commander role for the first time never watching any videos like this. I lost the game but my SL’s didn’t fault me. The enemy team had us horribly and I stepped into commander after ours quit. I did pretty good and my SL’s taught me how to do it. Then the next game the same thing happened. We lost again but we still fought HARD and I’m so glad I got to get that experience in and get to commander level 2 after 5 days of playing. Now I’m going to watch these videos and learn how to REALLY do it. everyone CAN be squad and team lead, but no one wants to.
I so badly want to try commander now, I do know a commander is crucial to winning. And I also know a lot of HLL players hate losing haha. I'm level 88 and yet tried commander because I know people will lay it on you if you suck 😆 I'm a very good squad lead at time, and know garrisons win games. I just played the greatest comeback a few nights ago on hill400. Level 32 commander just left us, and we were 30 seconds out from losing our last point. New commander took over, I snuck around, placed OP, told every squad to not give up, cleared 2 garrisons, then pressed and pressed. Commander gave me supplies, We came back, held Hill 400,and won!! All the squads went crazy. My squad topped 3/4 categories. Now I'm not usually cocky, but I know I had a huuuge effect on this win And my squad was so legit!!
jump in a sever that isn't full 20 people or less or even an empty one and just have a go people are a bit more easy going when server pop is low. When i jump in the commander role i just let the squad leads no i haven't got much experience so if they want something just ask for it and i concentrate on defensive garrisons i am not the best commander but i am still better than no commander
Great guide, top notch!! Covered all the important points that so many miss. Got me thinking about garry placement with in the capture zone, which I am guilty of (lvl 178 atm) of putting garry's a little far back due to over abundance of caution to keep them from getting locked. I am going to try it out you explained it for the attacking garry's.
A feature that would be great is voting to especifically remove commander BUT, the guy that asked for commander to be removed then takes the commander role. I hate when everyone is whinning about how bad you are as a commander, but when you leave the commander role no one takes it.
I am a frontline commander. I always take the first point and stay in the fight. Which made me laugh when I was called out in this video. I was actually playing this through my mic and hearing my team groan because they thought it was my first time playing commander.
Whats better - no commander or a low level playing commander? I have played commander from a low level and wonabou4 70% of the games (rough guess could be higher). I had great squad leads who made the right requests and suggestions and I made it clear I was playing commander as no-=one else had taken it. Had a great response, great games, great learning curve and it wasn't rocket science either!
Did my first game as commander yesterday. 4-1 down till bout 5 minutes finally got the 2 obj back. few minutes left did a mad push to middle cap zone. Took it with like 2 seconds left on the timer to win it 3-2.was madness. Everyone screaming after that win…. Next game got mauled cos still no real idea what doink
Organize your team and come up with a game plan. Find out immediately who your good squads are because you are going to need them when shit goes south. Pay attention to combat score on all present squads. If you got a squad playing defense and they always are getting their ass kicked, they only have like 200 score collectively after a period of time then you need to swap them out. The other scores DO NOT MATTER, the offensive and defensive score just means time in the zone. The combat score represents how well they are eliminating enemy players and maintaining cap weight/out capping the enemy. It also means they are more likely to fight their way to eliminate garrisons on the opposing side.
Garrisons on every point on the map , nodes, transport trucks , just spawn tanks no one likes sitting around 10 mins to then take another 15 mins to drive to the front , manage your 3 resources , save that bombing run for critical moments ,recon alot ,use the supply drop a ton , and just use airheads to get behind enemy strong points or tanks while defending ... And very important use reinforce when losing a point but your teams is close by trying to recap,.... Side note sometimes leadership comes don't work even when going to the scoreboard and picking it so you might get screwed and need to run around and proximity chat with squad leads to get things done
I had a go at commander after watching this I failed everyone was ok a little frustrated maybe but nobody els would do it so I thought I'd try it, im going to keep watching this video sure I clock it 😂
I think itd be cool to see a SqLd buff if there is no commander. As for what kind of buff i have no clue. But its terrible when a bad commander (or inexperienced hll player) starts the game, does…not good then leaves and the situation is extra hard to overcome. So i would propose perhaps without a minimum of a level 50 (maybe 75) in the server on your team until someone with an appropriate rank takes over. But i think thatd be cool. Was also thinking itd be cool if commander could promote 1-2 squads for some sort of buff. And maybe getting promoted as a squad might earn a motor role or marksman (with like springfield without scope or gewer or stg44 with one, for the russians you just get an lmg that works lmao jp about the last one). I also like maybe if, for example, a recon sq gets promoted they get a third role that has a satchel or something like that. Or tanks would have more ammo or be a variant that isnt used yet or something. Itd make more squads want to please the commander thus bringing teamwork more into priority category by incentivizing sl’s to interact more and follow orders and his subordinates more of a reason to follow orders and stick with the group. Endless possibilities really. They have a solid game here. Hopefully it stays that way lol. Also great video and channel, i love it. Keep it up.
Dont listen to Mono. Eyes on the screen! Hold the map and use abilitys, while drive the suply Truck. Until it is stuck in trench or while reloded. And Tank sl s ask you every 5 sec for a heavy Tank the First 8 minutes in a game. While jumping and shoting at HQ instead of joining a randy suplyer or Pionier build notes. That s the true life of a commmander 🙂 Serius, thx for content Mono!
I’ve played many many games, and only experienced a commander use dismantle in one game. It’s a great problem to have, the real struggle is getting your guys to make garrisons. You can join a game that’s already on going and determine immediately if you’re on the losing side, if you see no or 1 garrison then just quit. More garrisons mean victory, like in any conflict every, map control is everything
I think it's down to the Dunning Kreuger effect. Like when you're level 20 you don't know how much you don't know. Level 100 you know just how important the role is but you don't fully grasp all the details and responsibilities enough and don't want that smoke.
@@scottwatrous the 1.5 times I've taken commander at low level I was under zero delusions about my ability. There were just like 8 people in command chat bitchin about how there was no commander, and that literally any warm body was better than nothing, but at the same time when asked if they would do it, everyone said no.
Sorry that I have to break it to you but you completely missed classical leadership and communication. I liked that in your last video you named three key aspects: place garrisons, keep cohesion in the team, use the abilities
Hey mono, Could you do a guide about the offensive game mode? Specifically on how to take the final objective when playing as the attacking team? I've been in countless games where we seem to have everything in place, good garries, armour, bombing runs, multiple attacking directions etc but just can not break the defense.
Last point is usually fairly easy, the trick is to have somebody spawnkill the HQ behind the point, and the reco on the arty. Then you just use satchel if the defensive team placed a gajillions defences on the point.
Has anyone made a website with on ground images of different locations all over each map? Would be nice to know what landscape the airhead/ supplies are dropping into.
I don't think you should play commander at that level... me playing officer at level 2 and commander at level 15. People have been really nice and helped guide me through the roles, I let them know before I filled the role that I was new and made sure no one else was filling the role. I really think everyone should play commander at some point so they can see the other side of the battle they may normally miss. my officer role is my highest rank by a considerable margin, as most of the time people don't want that role so I was stuck playing it early on. I enjoy it now as I have officer chat, spawns where I want them, and the binoculars.
I just jumped in as command for the first time because no one else would, I think I did ok for a bit but down to the last 2 mins of the game I dropped a bomb run to keep them back in the final moments and accidentally bombed my own point…. Not doing that again for a while
Because those of us who know, don’t want to take the role, good commanders are very rare (however, there do seem to be quite a few who "think" they’re good) and a mediocre commander will receive so much negativity that it’s not a fun role to take.
@@CaPshenanagains125 yep squad leads need to work with the commander and make suggestions if he flounders a little. That way everyone’s a winner and the commander learns something for the next time
It's not lv 20 the problem. I had many times suggested new commanders what to do because I wanted them to take the role, while I was taking a break from it, playing some arty. The problem is the amount of lazy squad leaders. I had to step in and get on frontline alongside him, to build garrisons.
Usually because noone else wants to take the role. I had more games without any commander than a bad level 20 one. Haven't played commander yet except for occasional spawning of tanks and supply trucks (when noone of the high lvl players wants to take the role). Gonna give it a try now.
I usually find myself as commander because most squads are either locked or full 😅. I need to be a hands on learner or else I will never get the chance play. Sometimes I think people need to ease up a bit.
That's a warehouse, the only "fortified" place in a open area. Somebody is definitely going there as soon as you don't have blueberris spawning there anymore. Sometimes is quite common to get a place like that dismantled. The real trick is to get the garrisons and halftracks between corners, inside town dead ends, so nobody will make is way somewhere and then go back, unless they know there is/could be something
You'd be surprised how easy it is to figure out locations of garrisons and some outposts just by learning the map legend and markers. Is there a trench area on the other side of a field from an Offensive point? Shell it. It's crazy how many people will just keep spawning at a garrison being shelled.
Love your videos! Just one thing tho. The airhead bombing run timing you mentioned is off. Even after waiting only 10 second after Airhead, my bombing run is too late and just bombs my airhead! I first did you recommended 30, then 20, then 10! I think the bombing run needs to be clicked immediately after airhead. Thoughts? Did the update change timings? Thanks!
Get your squad leader class to at least level 4 before trying commander. If you don't understand how to be a SL how are you gonna be an effective commander?
As soon as you start capping the last sector, the corresponding HQ spawn gets disabled. Seems like you have some fundamental misunderstandings of how spawn points work, because garrisons will only get locked from proximity, independant of where they are.
@@seizmo8338 good thing to do is asking support, or playing as commander, to drop supplies at last point. Trucks can't so that's the only way to build a garrisons before having hq locked
I have made good experiences with combining a recon plane and then a strafing run + letting a team push after Basically to weaken the enemy team by taking out 3-5 people easily and already winning the fight
I can play Commander all day long and win games all day long on console. What it really breaks down to is that I am not playing with professionals. And then if I'm not playing with professionals it's people who want to do what they want to do. What's your advice. I am hardly level six. But I got this game down
@@monoespacial Thanks Mono your videos have helped so much with enjoying HLL on PS5 had some really good commander sessions thanks to yourself and soulsniper! I feel like they’ve screwed up the game after the latest update on console. Some of the guns don’t sound realistic anymore. Like the American 30 cal machine gun. Machine guns in tanks they’re not 50 cals. They screwed up the commander when they took finale stand away. Artillery rounds are not counted in your round count anymore. It’s kinda frustrating that they’ve screwed up some of the details that made the game awesome.
“Don’t spawn a heavy tank for a one man crew.” Well that’s an epic fail & poor commander skills. I was a 1 man heavy tank last night, took out 3 of the enemies tanks with full crews on board and never once got taken out myself. All comes down to how you play & knowledge of warfare.
You mean last night during the free weekend? It can be effective but if there is a competent 3 man crew on an enemy heavy your chances as a 1 man crew are basically none
@@monoespacialThat’s fool’s logic, I clean up against 3 man crews in heavy’s every time I’m in the tank role. The tank role has zero to do with how many are on board and everything to do with understanding tank warfare. Any time I hear someone say ‘One person can’t be in a heavy tank’ I know it’s a fools mouth it came from. Every tank requires a crew so this misconception mediums are fine for 1 man crews but heavys are off limits is simply remedial. It doesn’t surprise me one idiot came up with the misconception, what surprises me is the amount of sheep who accept it in any way being logical.
12:40 yeah don’t attempt to build a garrison in their base, that’s noob. Look at all that beautiful blue right close to the point that won’t lock out the Garry too.
Tryed to play the commander today ... Nobody responded to my orders for the first 10 mintues of the game. Put up 5 garrisons in the mean time. Told them I'm changing teams to teach them a lesson. Switched teams and obliterated them in the next 10 minutes. If you don't want teamwork prepare some hemorrhoids creme cuz I'm going in dry from the other side.
I don't think the commander needs to order every squad around but rather give some general orders like "Hey, can one of the squads going to Town Center put a garrison up around that area?". I try to only speak when absolutely necessary when commanding. Short, clear sentences with a purpose like explaining why we should defend and how for example: "I need either Baker or Charlie squad who are over at B2 to redeploy back and push north, we're losing that area but we can counter attack if we do it now" Something like this every 2-3min unless it's something alarming like an airhead.
A few tips from my experience: Commander best serves their team from the HQ, where they can focus on the map more than their surroundings, coordinate artillery and deal with squads requesting armor off the leadership chat. Plus, its good to have someone defending the HQ from enemy recon teams trying to sabotage the team. Let your Squad leaders coordinate the attack and give commands to each other, only jumping in when a request goes unheard. A commander should focus on delivering assets more than actually commanding their team. Dont take criticism too seriously. Most people have never played commander so they dont know how assets work and how much cooldown times you have to deal with. Just apologize/shit-talk back to them and deliver their request when you can, or just mute the squad leader to get your message across lol. Tell everyone in command chat to shut the fuck up when it gets too loud and make them give their request one at a time. You're gonna have guys try to talk over each other a lot, most of the time unknowingly. Just pay attention to their names and ask them to repeat one at a time so you can effectively deliver assets. Remind them to keep casual conversation to their squad, leadership chat is for players who actually want to win the game. Friendly fire should be avoided, but sometimes you gotta seize a good opportunity to use offensive assets while friendlys are in the kill zone. Best thing you can do in those situations is give your team a heads-up, location and some time to seek cover. Luckily it's just a videogame, so dont feel bad for treating your team as cannon fodder. Defending a position is more important than a few TKs, especially when it buys time for your team to reposition themselves. Get your team talking. Not an issue most of the time, but when your squad leaders arent requesting assets or making callouts for long periods it can cause you to lose a position. Remind your team to make those callouts and annoy you with request.
Dude, I disagree 100% with the HQ thing. If a commander spends most of his time at the HQ, I would consider him an absolute failure at commanding. You don't need to be looking at the map 24/7. Staying around the backline defending garrisons, driving trucks around to get some key garrisons up or driving half-tracks up to reinforce a point are the bare minimum a commander needs to be doing.
So your tips in a nutshell are... -Sit at HQ being semi useless when you could be establishing garrisons -As Commander, don't command- let sqld command -shit talk your squad leads -tell command chat to stfu -use own team as target practice. Got it, wish me luck
Big ups ^^
OMG so Truu. I also realized that when you relay commands like “Fall back” to squad leads. Also do it in text chat. For those members who don’t talk they sometimes looks at the chat. Gets them to check the map and fall back.
Really still trying to figure out what possesses people to attempt to play a pretty Sim version of a WW2 game where comms is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. Kinda blows my mind to be honest. I get people just wanna vibe sometimes, but the game is so much better when the chaos is managed with great comms across the whole team.
Are you the same Bruce Lee from tyan booth videos?
So that's how I stop being told to move back into a defensive position... :)
Even when you’re winning sometimes the atmosphere in Command Chat is horrible unfortunately
@@filipbujaroski9221 the new barrens chat
Half track is heavily underrated
i like that thought!
I had a game recently where the enemy commander used the recon vehicle to be chauffeured around the map. If you have a good and responsive tank squad that is so op. You are mobile, have firepower to clear and defend airdrops and that build in spotting ability of the recon vehicle.
@@Macaronyman17 imma have to try that sometime!
Always makes me feel like I have to step in and take it, especially with the weird leader drought on console.
sometimes people are forced to start squads due to locking or unavailability. you could freeze the team before it gets to deploy by waiting for 'vets'
@@dollazNzentz because you get quirky guns to run around all cod like with i imagine
I'd prefer the tutorial lock over the level cap lock. The game shouldn't punish players who willing to engage and learn.
I watch this without even playing hll and I find it interesting
Almost 100 rank. About to give it a try, but thought I'd check in here first. You helped me become a productive soldier/SL (although my KD may not always reflect that). Heck, I'll start as suppt/engineer just to get those dern nodes down.
I haven’t played commander all that much, but I would suggest anyone that wants to try it join an empty server and get your feet wet that way. Using the commander’s map can be difficult at first; the interface for placing abilities can be very awkward. At least learn how to drop supplies, call in a bombing run, spawn a tank, etc, before you try it in a server full of players.
How to find an empty server ps5?
@@more8116 I think we just start up private lobby
Random squad leader 1 : We need more garrisons!
Random squad leader 2 : Yeah, we do!
Random squad leader 3: Agree
Random squad leader 4: We def need more.

Thank u for the guide won two in a row after watching!
Airhead - always drop supplies close to it at the same time, to allow the first SL to build a Garry to keep up attack momentum.
doubles the planes and parachutes therefore the risk of being spottet... or even more clearly identified as airhead (depending on visibility people can mistake it "just" for an allied supply drop)...
I like dropping supplies at one area so they hear it, and the airhead in a dif spot to confuse.
i like to drop supplies first and hen drop airhead soon after if the supplies land safely

definitely gonna be a minute before i play commander lol i wanna make sure i understand the game fully. so far the medic has been my go to class, so much fun and everyone is thankful when you revive them 😂😂
I recently started to get pretty good at being a commander imo (most matches i win).
Love the mass effect music. Great guide. 👍
Played it for the first time today. Lots of balls to juggle. Was fun but very challenging
There is a middle ground on this imo
very interesting video , good to watch for all players and not only once who want to play commander. gives a better understanding of the game.
Nice touch with the music, Commander Shepard.
Great video man, just remember that it's sods law that now you've made another Commander vid, HLL are bound to change the mechanics again!!

You might need to go watch his basics video ;)
A feature that would be great is voting to especifically remove commander BUT, the guy that asked for commander to be removed then takes the commander role. I hate when everyone is whinning about how bad you are as a commander, but when you leave the commander role no one takes it.
I had a commander drop a air drop on the top of a mountain only for me to go all the way up and it tumbled all the way down.
It also means they are more likely to fight their way to eliminate garrisons on the opposing side.
that mass effect map music was nostalgic
Keep it up.
i like the idea, but the balancing will be harsh :S but i like it a lot :D
Great vid, I just need to work up the courage to try it now

Dont listen to Mono. Eyes on the screen! Hold the map and use abilitys, while drive the suply Truck. Until it is stuck in trench or while reloded.
When doing airhead-bombing run combo make sure you don’t bomb tour own airhead!
Great stuff!
Great... as always. Thx!
I agree, a lvl 20 should never be commander, but none of the lvl 100+ players will take it half the time.
I think it's down to the Dunning Kreuger effect. Like when you're level 20 you don't know how much you don't know. Level 100 you know just how important the role is but you don't fully grasp all the details and responsibilities enough and don't want that smoke.

Sorry that I have to break it to you but you completely missed classical leadership and communication. I liked that in your last video you named three key aspects: place garrisons, keep cohesion in the team, use the abilities
That's because this is a videogame. I've seen commanders go full roleplay and it just means they talk way more than they should.
Hey mono,
Could you do a guide about the offensive game mode?
Specifically on how to take the final objective when playing as the attacking team?
I've been in countless games where we seem to have everything in place, good garries, armour, bombing runs, multiple attacking directions etc but just can not break the defense.
Last point is usually fairly easy, the trick is to have somebody spawnkill the HQ behind the point, and the reco on the arty.
Then you just use satchel if the defensive team placed a gajillions defences on the point.
Has anyone made a website with on ground images of different locations all over each map?
Would be nice to know what landscape the airhead/ supplies are dropping into.
Thank you!
I enjoy it now as I have officer chat, spawns where I want them, and the binoculars.
hardest part of commander is un cooperative infantry units change my mind
I just jumped in as command for the first time because no one else would, I think I did ok for a bit but down to the last 2 mins of the game I dropped a bomb run to keep them back in the final moments and accidentally bombed my own point…. Not doing that again for a while
Meanwhile most games we suffer level 20 commanders 🥲
Because those of us who know, don’t want to take the role, good commanders are very rare (however, there do seem to be quite a few who "think" they’re good) and a mediocre commander will receive so much negativity that it’s not a fun role to take.
The get on the mic and coach them through it, I've play many games where I'm leading a squad and thinking for the commander teaching them what's up
@@CaPshenanagains125 yep squad leads need to work with the commander and make suggestions if he flounders a little.
Gonna give it a try now.
i sometimes remove my attack garry when the whole team is on attack so they have to defend
Mono, did you accidentally find that garrison in the wheat field?…
I did!
I usually find myself as commander because most squads are either locked or full 😅. I need to be a hands on learner or else I will never get the chance play. Sometimes I think people need to ease up a bit.
You should learn by playing Squad Leader if you don't have a few hours as that.
Which video have you got to show me how nodes work?
4:50 let me guess: pure map knowledge and experience where the enemy usually builds their garrisons? ^^
i was thinking the same 😂 how lucky can one be.
Actually that one was pure luck! I just randomly ran over it while driving around.
When using the first recon plane in the match, you have to replace the position of it to make it work. Saw you were trying to deploy it several times.
Thanks!
It depends on where you place it on the map and where the airplanes come from

What do you record your gameplay with
Get your squad leader class to at least level 4 before trying commander. If you don't understand how to be a SL how are you gonna be an effective commander?
How do you lock enemy base spawning behind last sector or any other sector when you are attacking (base spawnpoint) where your forces need to stand?
As soon as you start capping the last sector, the corresponding HQ spawn gets disabled.
Seems like you have some fundamental misunderstandings of how spawn points work, because garrisons will only get locked from proximity, independant of where they are.

I have made good experiences with combining a recon plane and then a strafing run + letting a team push after
Basically to weaken the enemy team by taking out 3-5 people easily and already winning the fight
3-5 people in exchange for 50 munitions isn't worth it. With 50 munitions used as artillery, you are going to get A LOT MORE kills than with a strafe.

And then if I'm not playing with professionals it's people who want to do what they want to do. What's your advice. I am hardly level six. But I got this game down

StratSketch isn't syncing up with your mouse again :(
It's the worst, isn't it?
How come every time a recon plane is called I can’t see no enemy dots on the map??
Only the commander, squad leaders, support players, tank crew and recon squads see the dots.
How do you change the direction of recons, straving and bombing runs? Didn't get that still... 😅
Click on the map icon once on map to rotate.
First click to place the area then on the bombing icon or the camera icon to rotate angle/direction
Click the icon on the map.
Thanks!
The biggest commander strength is not even mentioned in this video...
The commander's icons are visible to all team members
Can you see how many (munitions / fuel / man) points you have ?
It's on top of the map
@@monoespacial Thanks Mono your videos have helped so much with enjoying HLL on PS5 had some really good commander sessions thanks to yourself and soulsniper!
Another 2 questions if I may, can you make Gary’s within 50m of supply drops dropped in rivers or canals (in some maps)? Can supply drops land on roofs of buildings and a Garry still be built within 50m of them? Do you have any tips for hiding supply drops like in these ways from the enemy dismantling them? Much appreciated
@@monoespacial sorry if you did see these questions but.... 2 questions if I may, can you make Gary’s within 50m of supply drops dropped in rivers or canals (in some maps)? Does strafing run kill half-tracks?
nope
@@monoespacial what about bombing run
@@Lights_x yeah
Where did you find the accurate information?
What do you mean?
@@monoespacial I'm trying to find the official details of how the commander's abilities work and I cannot find.
@@mesmertamere the UI tells you everything you need to know: cool down, cost, area of effect. Is there something else you need?
I feel like they’ve screwed up the game after the latest update on console. Some of the guns don’t sound realistic anymore. Like the American 30 cal machine gun. Machine guns in tanks they’re not 50 cals. They screwed up the commander when they took finale stand away. Artillery rounds are not counted in your round count anymore. It’s kinda frustrating that they’ve screwed up some of the details that made the game awesome.
“Don’t spawn a heavy tank for a one man crew.”
Well that’s an epic fail & poor commander skills.

Short, clear sentences with a purpose like explaining why we should defend and how for example: "I need either Baker or Charlie squad who are over at B2 to redeploy back and push north, we're losing that area but we can counter attack if we do it now"
Something like this every 2-3min unless it's something alarming like an airhead.
A few tips from my experience:
Commander best serves their team from the HQ, where they can focus on the map more than their surroundings, coordinate artillery and deal with squads requesting armor off the leadership chat.
-Sit at HQ being semi useless when you could be establishing garrisons
-As Commander, don't command- let sqld command
-shit talk your squad leads
-tell command chat to stfu
-use own team as target practice.
Got it, wish me luck
