About the infotainment... I had a similar annoying lag on my 2018 Santa Fe. Since my phone doesn't have Android Auto / Apple Carplay, I turned those options off in the infotainment settings and it fixed the lag right away!
I own a 2014 Veloster Turbo, and for looks I have to say I love the old style front end more but much much rather the new style's back end. Side profile of the old one also takes it for me. Everything else though is better on the newer ones, so great improvements from Hyundai!

I might trade in my 2015 civic si for this. I had a 2023 base veloster as my first car which I traded in for my Si, but I miss my veloster. This new one looks so much better!
Yes yes yes a million times yes on the USB ports at the mirror or in the map light. Also the mirror in this car looks like it could benefit from actually being a screen and camera like in the Cadillac CT6.
Very cool! I can't believe I'm saying this, but this Veloster is really growing on me. A Hyundai! Wow, and I've even had a 13 Focus ST for four years now
I have owned a Veloster Premium 2.0 now for a couple months and love it. I am the young at heart who owned a Toyota Supra in the 1990s before my kids. After I had kids, I needed to trade in my Supra for a family car. Now my kids are older and no longer need the larger family car and bought the Veloster Premium. Since I live in Chicago and not expected to every use the Veloster on any tracks racing, so I have fun in city driving with the non-turbo naturally aspirated engine with no turbo lags moving forward. The sport mode gives some nice power including low at lower rpm. I have to admit in the 90's I raced Chicago Bulls Micheal Jordan on a street in Chicago before his first NBA Championship with my Toyota Supra against his Lamborghini at a stop light. I can still remember Micheal's smile back at me when he raced past me. If you are not using the Veloster on a track or live where you need more all season tires the 2.0 non-turbo should be considered. The Premium also includes more options than the R-Spec for about the same price as the R-Spec. I agree the Veloster is must fun for the dollar whether it is the N, turbo or the 2.0.
@R X I like it. The panoramic moonroof width size is nearly the width of the entire roof. The power moonroof has both tilt and full open options. With current rebates and dealer discounts, you are getting a great deal on the Veloster. The 5 year bumper to bumper warranty and 10 year powertrain warranty is awesome. Not sure, I could have found another car this fun to drive with all the standard options near the price I paid for my Veloster Premium.
As a driver of a 2017 Hyundai Veloster Turbo I am very excited for the new 2019 version. One if the big things that I hoped they would imrpove was how stiff the "shocks" are, even small bumps aren't really absorbed. It sounds like that's one of the things that they worked on, so I'm sure that I won't be dissappointed.
We can explain the likely culprit behind the flying visors. The common link is that Yuri and I both used our right hands when visors flew off. Apparently when a visor is difficult to detach from its clip we instinctively use our dominant hand to slide the visor thinking that it will also be difficult
Civic Si has similar power, I wonder how it would compare. I'm not too sure whether the Veloster and Elantra Sport could be considered competitors (against each other) given that they're both Hyundais.
First car buyer here. Recently bought a 2016 Veloster Turbo for $14k with 18k miles. Its my first car ever, so I'm trying to be more practical and buy the 1st gen. Once the car is paid off and I saved up more. I'm gonna get the Veloster N if possible for my next upgrade!!!
Buy it in white. Fab in '90s Accord suspension with stiffer shocks and progressive springs. Replace the rear hatch with Lexan in the lower section so you can see out of the back. Replace the plastic fake vents with mesh. Remove all chrome. Remove all emblems. Install smaller lightweight wheels with good rubber that can be as flashy as you want 'em. Install a larger fuel pump, injectors, intercooler, piping, exhaust, and give it a tune. Buy a racing clutch to have in reserve. Run steel braided brake lines and upgraded pads. Lighten it as much as you can. Now you'd have a car that's almost as good as a $15k CRX build...
You guys should do a comparison video with this, the Ford Focus ST, Civic Si, Golf GTI, and other hot hatches in the segment. Great content, love the channel!

The visor test is essential. No lie, I actually broke a visor on a Nissan test driving it. For some reason it was installed backwards so it couldn't swing sideways.
I don't get the hate over the Reverse Ring on the shifter. When I shift I grab the ball (lol) and when I put it into reverse, palm up, lift the reverse ring between your middle and ring finger like you're holding a wine glass. It's classy okay
I would like to give Hyundai credit, this is an outstanding looking car. It so refreshing to see an interesting design for a change. There is no vehicle to which you would mistake this as. Good job. Btw. I think that they dropped the ball on their latest GT (Elantra/i30) design - when compared last Gen GT. Great job on the video Guys. Thanks.
Hyundai does build nice cars these days, however changing the original Veloster to look more like a Honda Civic was a joke. Why copy a dying breed. Honda is spending more time suing companies for coping their lawnmower engines instead of building better cars!! Why copy that...

With respect to the song choice for testing the sound system and bass capability I would vote: “ No Church in the Wild” by Kanye, not because I like his music ( I don’t) but because whenever I read reviews for headphones, editors seem to use that song a lot because of its extremely deep bass track, the mix of male vocals for midrange test and some of the higher tone electronic tracks to test the high range treble 👍🏻
Another great video. Thank you. The Elantra GT N-Line is likely my next car. I watched this in case I’m missing out on something cool, but comments at the end point me right back to the Elantra GT N-Line. Thanks!
J Collins definitely get the N Line. Symmetrical doors, more consistent style, and a more aggressive stock exhaust sound, and better looking interior. I known most of those points are just my opinion but overall i think The Elantra GT Sport/N Line is the better hatch to get.
It isn’t purely cosmetic. The suspension is stiffer. I was comparing it to the Veloster Turbo R in this video. The N-Line and Turbo R are very similar in spec except that the Turbo R has the LSD. I’m not autocrossing or racing, so the compromise tilts me toward the N-Line. I agree that the N-Line is not an N, but it also is not a standard GT with purely cosmetic changes.
Chaser4Chubs🐻 i dont know if its better than the civic but i dont regret my purchase of that car the turbo sounds great the car design is really great everyone is watching its a great car for real and i prefer this one than the civic that everybody have
I bought a 2019 veloster turbo ultimate i test drove a 2020 honda civic sport hatchback. The veloster is more fun and has more power. The honda had a boring cvt transmission and you couldn’t hear the turbo at all. The honda is boring go with the HYUNDAI

Genius idea with the USB mirror - I just installed a dashcam and it was a little bit of a pain to install the wiring Great review as always - keep them coming!
Great review guys! I absolutely love my 16' Elantra GT, really wish they'd bring the GT's "N" equivalent to the states. The Veloster looks stupid fun for people who don't have friends to ride in back!...
That dashcam comment. Bro you are next level. It was the first mod i bought for my kia soul base. Rearview that had a usb built in for the dashcam that was part of the whole unit. You know that would be like 3 to 600 $ option from the car companies perspective...
The chrome adds 10 horsepower to each razor blade wheel. Bargain of the century indeed! All jokes aside pretty cool that Hyundai cares about the car and made great updates to it. Great review! :)
Great review as always! I love the looks, but hate the three door thing. I don't understand why a company would produce a sporty-ish car, but they're afraid to just make it a two door???
Here in Korea, they also have heated steering wheel and ventilated seats on the top model. Also, the base model here gets a 1.4 turbo rather than the regular 2L. Cool little car!
My biggest complaint about the new car...is they got rid of the beautiful blue that the 2013 model had (ie. that's the color of mine and I love it!). You guys had a blue one but it's not on the website :-(
I'm in the US. Maybe that is the difference. That's SO disappointing! I love my car and I get comments on the color all the time. I wouldn't want it in any other color.
Great review, nice car- I also like that you guys are not afraid to list what you DON'T like. I can't wait to drive one, as I have been in a few of the 1st gen and imo the turbo is a great engine.
You guys are awesome, thanks for this review! Been watching you guys since your AndroidAuto v AppleCarplay video. Cool exotic and expensive cars recently that I can't imagine owning, but I own a Kia Optima and I can't wait til you guys drive the newer models. Kia&Hyundai infotainment ftw.
You guys are really funny and fresh. But some constructive bits....Time to tweak the format, getting a bit predictable. But you guys are really good. An honest opinion!
TheStraightPipes ... well you guys are the guru.. if I may ... you could add some offroading, episodes on used cars, comparos, Class shoot outs... heck if budget and schedule permits... something like topgear or motortrend... but you guys have my respect!! Salute to your hard work... and your willingness to listen to your fans..👍🏻
First point: "The ugly wheels" is spot-on. Directional rim spokes cut forward on one side of the car, and backwards on the other side. Until the manufacturers let you have left- and right-side directional rim Symmetry always looks better in the rims. Second point: Repeat of the GTI visor test was just as amusing to see as the first one, especially Yuri's reaction.
That's awesome. Wish more manufacturers did that. So far, your Lexus is the only one I've heard of that has that. Of course, I bet they'd want to charge an arm, a leg, and several major organs to get it. For now, I'll go with the symmetrical spokes on my Focus ST's stock Rado Grey rims.
Ahhh, you came to Peterborough. If you film around here again, use River Road, going north out of Peterborough towards Lakefield. It has good corners and it's feet away from the river for most of the road. Very scenic.
My Parents had a red 2013 Veloster Turbo for around year and they loved it, but it ended up being too small for them so they traded it for an orange Santa Fe Turbo. The lease on my Elantra Limited is up in October and I’m definitely going to look at the Veloster Turbo and The Kona.
This is America would be great to test sound systems! You guys are awesome! I was at the G70 Launch in Quebec (as a Genesis agency) we were all stoked to know you guys were there.
Great review gentlemen! IMHO for $30,000 ++ I would consider Mazda GT at $25k, Honda Civic Si at $29K, VW Golf GTI AT $30,500..... I wouldn't consider the Veloster as an option or in the same category.
Jakob, and yuri, not sure who responds but would you say it feels like hydraulic steering from a old BMW in sport mode. Btw, play the song "what is love"
@2:26 in this location is where some car manufacturers are putting LED strip fog lights and I noticed this car has no fog lights. Perhaps it is a styling cue to hint at where fog lights would or could possibly be if so specc'd.
Dwight Booker Would this car be good for a first time buyer and newbie driver? I like the bizarre three doors but it looks like a sport car which may not be fitting for my driving skills. If it isn’t, which car would you recommend?
elletangere in my research at that price point you’re not going to find a much better collection of technology, Safety, and performance. It really all depends. What is your price point? What’s most important for you? For me it was large sunroof, premium radio, and technology in something fun to drive and unique. The Veloster covered all that for me. This would be a perfect newbie car or first car as it’s not insane power and you can get the premium 2.0 or the R Spec for a steal if you look hard enough. I ended up with the Turbo Ultimate as I wanted everything. If you have the extra money and performance is top on your list look at the VW Golf GTI or a Honda Civic which gives you the upside of four doors. The only complaint I have about my Ultimate Turbo is that it needs a short shifter to be a more fun driving experience. Given all that I would start with your price point then what’s most important. I’ve had both the GTI and Veloster and the GTI was a lot better performance wise.
elletangere also I wouldn’t classify this as a sports car at all. It’s a hot hatch. I didn’t like the looks of the Elantra GT or the tiny little sunroof on the Elantra Sport. If you’re sticking with just Hyundai and want something sporty with 4 doors take a look at the Elantra Sport as well
Dwight Booker I just want a base car I can use for work and maybe some Uber as well. Not too crazy about speed or any feature. Just want something I can play music on through bluetooth and good design. Budget is 25K(max) of a car loan, within 20K is much preferred though. Trying to stay within Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and Honda while leaning more towards Kia/Hyundai because I like their designs compared to the others within the price range. Looked up the base Veloster online; it says it’s under 20K but the dealership here don’t offer it. Maybe not yet. Not too sure. Other cars within price range, doesn’t look interesting as the veloster
Seeing the prices for the Veloster, I'm like woah because it starts at 18,500(2.0 base version)-26,650(Turbo ultimate) and these are the starting prices forgetting the dealerships fees etc. My estimated guess of the Veloster N is around 29,500-35,000 because of how extraordinary this car is.
I do like that new Veloster, looks great, good specs, we're living in a new hot hatch age.
FlyinGato right where people like to call the Honda Civic type-R a “lawnmower”

Genius idea with the USB mirror - I just installed a dashcam and it was a little bit of a pain to install the wiring
Great review as always - keep them coming!
So this, & the GTI you reviewed had their visors flew back 😂
Stuck between this and a last-gen Tacoma for a new vehicle, as both are practical enough for my needs plus plenty fun when the time comes.
Best car review channel!
Peter Veress check out Savage Geese
Just ordered an all black turbo. I’m so excited
LOL THAT SUNVISOR FLEEEWWW
You guys are better than motor trend.....swear
Good Morning from Ontario 🇨🇦
The chrome adds 10 horsepower to each razor blade wheel. Bargain of the century indeed! All jokes aside pretty cool that Hyundai cares about the car and made great updates to it. Great review! :)
Great review as always!
I love the looks, but hate the three door thing. I don't understand why a company would produce a sporty-ish car, but they're afraid to just make it a two door???
Can’t be mad at a company for trying something cool.
You guys had a blue one but it's not on the website :-(
Canada?
I'm in the US. Maybe that is the difference. That's SO disappointing! I love my car and I get comments on the color all the time. I wouldn't want it in any other color.
Great review, nice car- I also like that you guys are not afraid to list what you DON'T like.
I can't wait to drive one, as I have been in a few of the 1st gen and imo the turbo is a great engine.
Re: song choice...neither
kelvin kielley I’m taking that as a +1 for Taylor Swift
Yuri Tereshyn not for a second
Lol if i chose taylor swift over childish i would have myself drawn and quartered
Darude Sandstorm
What’s wrong with either? Is it one is TSwift and the other is protesting guns and racism?
CY18 is the year of broken visors! 2 down so far, boys! Keep ‘em comin’!
Gonna visit a scrap yard and mess visors up!
In Mexico, we used to call it "Lentoster"... Such a great job guys.
You guys are really funny and fresh. But some constructive bits....Time to tweak the format, getting a bit predictable. But you guys are really good. An honest opinion!
What should we tweak
TheStraightPipes ... well you guys are the guru.. if I may ... you could add some offroading, episodes on used cars, comparos, Class shoot outs... heck if budget and schedule permits... something like topgear or motortrend... but you guys have my respect!! Salute to your hard work... and your willingness to listen to your fans..👍🏻
"budget" = zero
Then you guys are doing really great... !! 👍🏻✌🏻 to both of you.
gaurav hazarika They have done all of that...look through their vids bro...
My ISF has directional wheels that are stamped individually. Every wheel has an exact corner. So they're the same direction on both sides 😁
4:59 Visor test
Ahhh, you came to Peterborough. If you film around here again, use River Road, going north out of Peterborough towards Lakefield. It has good corners and it's feet away from the river for most of the road. Very scenic.
Gambino. All day.
thank u
Thats my car and i love the performance 100% worth it buying
You guys do great entertaining reviews 👍🏻
The front profile look s a lot like the Focus ST. The N is going to be siiiiiiick! can’t wait to see that one.
🤗You guys are destroying sun visors🌞everywhere you go and I like it 🤣.
black roof with black wheels in red is very nice
I just felt in love with the way Yuri looks to Jakub in minute 10:37. 💖
The Hyundai Veloster Turbo is what the Mazda Mazda3 Hatchback should have been.
Holy crap - rear view mirror USB port. That needs to happen in every new car.
OMYGOD THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW!! BEEN WAITING FOR YOU GUYSS!! CONGRATS FOR 200K
This is America would be great to test sound systems! You guys are awesome! I was at the G70 Launch in Quebec (as a Genesis agency) we were all stoked to know you guys were there.
Awesome
Great review gentlemen! IMHO for $30,000 ++ I would consider Mazda GT at $25k, Honda Civic Si at $29K, VW Golf GTI AT $30,500..... I wouldn't consider the Veloster as an option or in the same category.
I'd go with the HOnda Civic SI
Also Subaru WRX and even the Fiat Arbat!
Also the Elantra Sport, which is considerably cheaper and has the same engine.
Yep anything over 20k for a Hyundai, Kia or any Korean car is crazy.
Speakerboxxx Intro is hands down the best song for testing sound systems. No debate!
Jakob, and yuri, not sure who responds but would you say it feels like hydraulic steering from a old BMW in sport mode. Btw, play the song "what is love"
What is love from dance mix 95
@2:26 in this location is where some car manufacturers are putting LED strip fog lights and I noticed this car has no fog lights. Perhaps it is a styling cue to hint at where fog lights would or could possibly be if so specc'd.
The proper song to test a car stereo is Peter Gabriels Sledgehammer. Try it!
Awesome song from an awesome album. That album has excellent production quality too.
Waking up to a Straight Pipes review ... Greatest breakfast combo 😂
I'm having a hard time deciding which car I like the most. The Veloster turbo or the Elantra GT Sport. Both have their pros and cons but great videos.
Johnny Nguyen go Veloster. Lighter better wheels and cooler lol
Good to hear they have sorted out the suspension. The current one is so crashy
Team Taylor. What are those green lights at the bottom of the screen at 2:27? Is that a reflection of the headlights?
Just from the camera and filters. Oops
Wow!! You have great eyes. High-performance eyes !! Awesome!!
Thank you to Jakub&Yuri, for making my Friday morning even more enjoyable! :thumbsup;
Forgot to mention that the fully loaded turbo and non turbo finally come with spare tires!
Can you guys review the Elantra GT N Line?
One of the best reviewers! Keep it up guys!
My vote... what is love? Yuri don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.
you're showing your age.
I own a Geni coupe but I want the first or second gen Veloster. Car is crazy unique.
