I don't think Dorian was low volume at all either. Obviously, many of his "warm-up" sets were bodybuilding working set level intensity, but his claimed working sets were low volume either though. He went beyond failure on all of exercises with assistance and often even then did partials after assisted full ROM reps, so each set mimicked doinh two or three sets.
Yeah I think when it comes to volume many people neglect to look under the hood (or bonnet as we say in the uk) and think in terms of sets only, whereas not all sets are equal. And volume when you dissect it can at times be a bit more complex than that. If counting (for example) only the effective muscle building reps utilizing all motor units of a set being the last few before failure, then it changes, as well as the old equation of reps + load = volume which in cases such as dorians lifting extremely heavy weight it holds true, He used moderate volume.
My question is this: Given that pre-fatigue and intensity techniques are even a thing, does the interference effect really matter at all as far as hypertophy is concerned? It seems like pushing the muscle close to failure matters more than the weight on the bar, and pre-fatigue doesn’t seem to be an issue when advanced lifters do it to “get more out of less weight”.

in the 00's I used to be able to do 100kg OHP for x6, yet could only do 145kg bench press for about 3 reps lol
