I've never seen these catfish being shy about line resistance, but maybe that's colder water than I have experience with. For catfish that don't like to feel tension on the line, I have a good solution. I shouldn't give away my secret, but here goes. Get some special bobbers from Rainbow Plastics that can be filled with water. For bobbers that are used for casting weight, get the bobbers that are shaped like a football. With the larger size of this style, they weigh approximately a couple of ounces when full of water so you can launch them a really long distance, but since they are weighted with water and the plastic housing is not very dense material, once they are submerged they are practically weightless. The line goes through the bobber so you'll need to use a swivel below the bobber (to keep it away from your bait) and you might want to put a bobber stop above it. Using the bobber stop also gives the option of using them as slip bobbers (when they are not completely full of water so they float), and you can suspend your bait above those rocks.
That is a good carp fishing spot and I caught a few small bass there. At least when I used to ride my bike back there which is no longer allowed.

Yeah, but it’s hit and miss.
I always did the best the first two weeks of July. After that the weeds get a little too thick for me.

I use 50 on braid into 50 lb wire or steel leader. On mendota, I just tie a 1oz weight above the leader and put a bait on the hook.
