I started my locs 2 months ago and couldn’t find anything online that said NOT to use Dr Bronners. All the vids I saw were just basic reviews. So, thank you for this. It’s what I’ve been using to wash my hair.I dilute it but it’s still what I’ve been using since my 2nd wash. I just don’t know which shampoos I should try using. But, I’ll start looking
Dawn dish soap works wonders for me. But you need to use it on the first wash only, maybe 2nd wash and then follow up with a very moisturizing shampoo. Also If you are washing up your hair every two weeks like some people then no. Dont use it because yes it can be drying. I can never wash without Dawn, that dishwashing liquid is my staple product for wash day. Problem is just like gels, people dont know how to use dish soap to wash locs properly. Dawn is definitely better than using that baking soda and ACV mixture.
@@kimberlyjackson3660 we already know how drying it is so we only know first wash and that's it. They don't know how to use it properly. Dawn works wonders for locs, I swear by it.
I use the hemp almond. No drying but I’m definitely not trying to end up with soap scum. However, Dr Bronner doesn’t recommend using just a diluted ratio of the soap for hair. She says, on her website, to follow-up the shampoo with an ACV rinse since the largest difference between soap and shampoo is the acid. I did the acv rince with my last wash-- dried my scalp so much, BUT my hair was definitely clean.
I've been using Sauve before I had loc and didn't really know the benefits of it. It was just cheap for me, but seeing that I have locs now. I'm sticking to it
I tried de bronners one time and immediately knew I was a fool and did a detox… like 6 minutes later!!!! I have always known better than to experiment with twisting products but dish soap no. You taught me better! Lol
I hate I missed this one. I have thought about using Dawn in my locs or my sons locs. I also use to use Dr. Bronner but i dont use it anymore as it use to dry out my hair. I use Naptural85’s black soap shampoo and it is amazing. I also like the Trader Joe’s tea tree tingle when I need to clarify.
I used Castille soap for years and could not understand why my locs looked dull. I finally realized it was soap scum. Dr, Bonners has coconut oil which I think adds to the problem, imo. I used diluted Dawn after I stopped the Dr. Bonners but only when I thought it was needed.
I've been using Dr. B.for years and my hair is so dull and lackluster, but I don't know what to do! I am very sensitive to commercial shampoos. Any natural recommendations?
I used dawn on my loc ends not to the root and next I used my shampoos. I used dr. Bonner/peppermint diluted with water and followed with my shampoos. I haven't used either in quite some time
and as it relates to soap, i recently ran out of shampoo and my mom had the nerve to suggest using powdered soap (laundry detergent). i knew i had to go out and buy shampoo asap
I can't remember who posted but remember someone saying Dr Bronners is affected by hard water vs soft water. But I found Dr Bronners is drying on my skin as well. I currently use Dr Jacobs but I haven't tried it as shampoo.
Great conversation.. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have tried both, its been over 10 years back on my first set of locs. I’ve since learned the importance of Ph Balance… Dr. Bronners is so alkaline that its just not suitable for hair… Same with dish soaps. Can you please share and have a conversation in regards to Ph Balance of hair products. I’d love to hear your thoughts… Be well…
I tried the acv rinse a couple of days ago and the buildup that was stuck in the roots are now in the roots so on. didnt work at all for me. Ive had dreads for 30 days now and i havent been good enought on washing my dreads with soap. I was afraid of damage it so now its stuck😅 i have to try some soap we got here in norway so get that yukk out of my dreads 😁
I noticed a film after 1 or 2 uses of dr bonners. My friend was using for years ans he asked me to retwist the front before we went out. His hair was so dirty after washing with dr bonners!
I used it for the first time my last wash and my scalp was itching so bad, my hair felt super crunchy and I didn’t know why.. I diluted it but I don’t think I will try it again
Hi Jocelyn, thanks for sharing. What are those strings you have criss crossed in your locs? I tend to see them in gold, but I'm not sure where I can purchase them or the type of material to look for.
How do you feel about Dr Bonners shampoo Castel soap.. I noticed the soap scum and followed with another shampoo (which I still do from time to time) but the shampoo did feel different
Most of you must not read the Dr. B label. It clearly says dilute dilute dilute and follow up with acv and conditioner. If you see residue it is because your locs already had residue which the mixture is bringing to the surface. I am sorry but I would not listen or allow anybody that uses Dawn dishsoap on my hair. Unless you are a duck what makes you think it would work for a humans hair. 😂😂😂
I do dilute my Dr. B with water, acv and a moisturizing shampoo all in one then hydrate with rosemary hibiscus water or rose water/aloe water/mint tea + oils but I'm only 5 months loc'd I haven't had any issues
What was your experience using either of these soaps in your hair?

Yes, only on first wash. It has not damaged my hair. However, because I'm old school, I already knew to be on the watch for dryness.

@@roxy5344 yes ma'am! That's it for sure. Anything can be damaging if you don't do it properly.
I think that the peppermint is drying but not so much the lavender or the almond , plus your supposed to always dilute with water 🌸🌸✨
I use the hemp almond.

which suave shampoo do you use? the clarifying one?
As long as you post everyday I be watching it girl

I've used it when I had some build up from trying to use edge control. It didn't damage my locs, but the build up came out.
i use free the roots soap bar for locs really like theirs
I used dawn on my loc ends not to the root and next I used my shampoos. I used dr. Bonner/peppermint diluted with water and followed with my shampoos. I haven't used either in quite some time
I use black African soap to wash my hair and I put olive oil in my hair while washing also so it won't dry out my hair
How do you get the build up from Dr. Bonner's out? I had no idea this is what was causing this stickiness in my hair!!! Heellllppp
What shampoos would you recommended?
It isn’t supposed to be used regularly. I use it once or twice a year for extreme buildup and then I use oils and a conditioner.
I’ve only used Castile Soap as body wash.
Nope! I’ll stick with a clarifying shampoo! No Dawn, on Dr B, and no ACV+ baking soda+lemon juice for me!
Replay. But yes, I did. Now I understand why it was so dry.
what's your take on using rose water on locs? could you make a video response?
and as it relates to soap, i recently ran out of shampoo and my mom had the nerve to suggest using powdered soap (laundry detergent). i knew i had to go out and buy shampoo asap

What about black soap bar that is followed by raw aloe on the scalp?
What about Agrican black soap?
I use dr bronnors bc it’s amazing!!

African soap bad or good?

Hemp string is what I use or embroidery thread.
