I laughed so hard when you called Elayne and Nynaeve "wonderful girls"! These two and Elayne have been known as the "wondergirls" in the fandom for many years. 😂😂
When Moiraine is commanded to close the Waygate. Now you see how binding the oaths are. Moiraine did not want to do it. You can see her straining herself to not do it, but the oath she swore on the Oathrod in S1 Ep6 was to obey Siuan Sanche. When Siuan gave her an Order the Oath forced her body to obey. So when the Aes Sedai mention the Oath to not tell a word that is untrue, that is the level of force that binds them to keeping that oath. No matter if they really, really want to they cannot break the oath.
And it's not just that it's her braiding it, she's doing it in the Two Rivers style instead of the 3 braids on the top of her head (I don't know names for braiding styles ;P)
10 even. I really hate the insistence on 8 episodes. One more episode would make this all a lot cleaner. I don’t mind the changes from the books as much as many readers, but a little more time on the other main characters would be nice.
Falme is on Toman Head, which is a peninsula surrounded by the Aryth Ocean. The tsunami used the ocean waters to devastate the coastline (and coastal defenses). The Aiel are from a desert place and have never seen the ocean, thus their reaction upon arriving at it.
It seems significant that Siuan directly accuses Moiraine of lying about the stilling, because for Moiraine to be able to lie, she would have had to break the three oaths, and for her to be able to do that, she would have had to pledge herself to the darkness. So it might not be just that Siuan thinks that their way didn't work and they now have to do it the Tower way, but she may actually believe she has lost Moiraine to the darkness. Seeing her leave with Lanfear would only look like a confirmation of that fear.
The detail of Egwene braiding her hair is even more interesting than the deyail you mentioned. Some book readers have told me that in SeanChan culture people who have braided hair are kind of like a lower-class... Within their class system. But the reason why Egwene is braiding her hair is because it connects her to all of the women of their community and it's a sign that they're an adult and stuff... So yeah, I just found that really really interesting that the different cultures in the books, and in the show, have different cultural meanings for the same hairstyle. I'm not sure if Egwenes Sul'dam is going to make any verbal comments about it in the show, though... But yeah it's an interesting dynamic or cultural choice for the author to have made.
Since Ishamael is always reminding us that one of his names is the "Father of Lies", I am definitely not believing him about this tea... I'm not sure exactly what the tea did, but Ishamael has shown them nightmares before (like Perrin's in season 1 with his wife), so maybe it was that? I like the theory that the tea just put him to sleep. Especially since the episode mentions a sedative tea (that Barthanes arranged to serve Moiraine).
Yup every word he says I think… would he gain something by lying here or is it really the truth that serves him best. Here if the tea works how he says he has no control over what Mat sees…not a very Ishy thing to give up control.
As a middle-aged american, I grew up watching TV shows that had 20-30 episodes per season. Trying to cover 2 very thick books per season with only 8 episodes per season... I heard (somewhere - haven't fact-checked) that they asked for 10 but amazon only let them have 8

You got it right on the shield thing. Rand is stronger than Logain in the One Power, but Logain had several years of experience in working the Power and controlling it. The show (and the books) do a good job of showing power/potential vs experience/control.
It is also an interesting take between the Aes Sedai and the Seanchan, and their willingness to go into murky territory (aka outright slavery) The Seanchan is quite obvious. They enslave and break women who can channel and turn them into basically pets-with-powers, but they also have their servants and even lesser slaves that carry that big palanquin that Lady Suroth was carried around on. It is quite obvious that we are supposed to dislike the Seanchan. On the other side we have the powerful, kinda mysterious and amazing Aes Sedai in their White Tower who seem to be perfectly OK with caging and shielding the Dragon, only letting him channel when they deem it neccesary. This is not just Siuan being nasty, this is Tower law. The law is basically for them to do the same to Rand as the Seanchan does with their Damane. The Aes Sedai deems it neccesary to cage the Dragon and to stop him from going mad and using his power to destroy the world, which is the same reasoning that the Seanchan use about their Damane.
Considering Mat's upbringing and already low self esteem, and the last few months being imprisoned and degraded by Liandrin, it would be easy for 'The Father of Lies' Ishy dear to easily mess with poor Mat's head! Someone on another site said that Egwene is being forged in fire which will make her stronger. I feel like both Egwene and Mat have been beaten down and now it's up to them to reforge themselves to be stronger, better versions of themselves. 🤞
The mat/tea stuff is not a spoiler, because its not in the books :) i do believe it is an interpretation of a similar thing from the books, however, we couldnt spoil you here because we dont actually know! My personal theory is the tea was just tea, but ishy needed mat to believe that he was seeing his past lives, and that ishy couldve just showed him these things with magic to manipulate him. Another theory my friend has is that the tea just put him to sleep and the following scene takes place in the dream world, but it doesnt say 'telaranrhiod' as the location description on xray so im hesitant with that one

The Leaning Tower of Funko that has been stressing me out since your S1 videos has been leaning worse lately and I'm constantly afraid it's going to topple over during a recording.
You do such a good job with remembering most of these crazy made up names. I cracked up at "only the sedan can get into the kennels"! Sul'dam control damane with an a'dam. It's a mouthful for sure. I completely missed the whole "Lan didn't think Moiraine was despondent enough to have been stilled" angle - it makes perfect sense now - thanks for that!
I feel like you have a really good handle on Mat's character, although even for book readers, they've made changes to his arc so it's hard to say for sure. I also think you're wise not to believe what a guy who calls himself the Father of Lies says, although this tea isn't in the books so I can't spoil anything about it from a story perspective, just guessing like you. I wonder if Siuan and Moiraine can come back from this. Siuan has seen Moiraine seemingly in league with Lanfear, and Siuan has seemingly betrayed their long-standing plans, so can they ever get trust back? But I also am glad that Lan and Moiraine are back together and Moiraine has a new team. This episode was so jam-packed to get everything set up for Episode 8, and it still seems there's so much to tie up in the next episode. We'll have to be ready for a crazy episode next week...

Not a spoiler as this part of the show wasnt in the books. But i dont think ishamael gave mat visions. I think he gave him a sleeping draught and messed with his dreams. Good reaction btw :)
Isn't that a way to give him visions though? Just... visions of his choice, while Mat was asleep. Although, why wouldn't Ishy just visit him while he was knocked out? Maybe the unconscious can't dream. I suppose that's a thing.

Or expanding on Moiraine and Suian. Or Dana last season. The parts I dislike are when I feel like they've diverged from the books but also don't have a good plan. Mat and Min *really* worry me this season, especially since Finn *is* Mat (I'm just now struck by how funny that sentence is with context), but Mat has nothing to do but be a pawn. I retain the right to love the last episode for bringing together Mat's story, but I feel like it is more likely to get a ball drop. Also. I'm not sure what Aviendha *did* to incur Toh. Simply losing a fight wouldn't be a reason for Toh, and being beaten is one of the least effective ways of meeting Toh.
"I can't believe it's just one episode left of this season.. F*ck.." And then we probably have to wait another 18-24 months for Season 3! =D On the plus-side I've heard rumors that the show was not affected by the strikes, or at least the shooting of S3 could keep going, but I base this off Reddit-comments so take it with a grain of salt. But then it's a year of Post Production..
Well, the marketing of the show was very much affected (and is still affected) by the strikes and thay could be a problem because we need people to watch ot for it to be renewed after 3, 4, and so on.
This Cold Open reflects the Cold Open of S1 Ep7, both are about the birth of the Dragon Reborn. So I wonder if we will see the previous Dragon (Lews Therin) who we see in the opening of S1 Ep8 in the Cold Open of S2 Ep8 and maybe what they did as they tried to cage the Dark one last time resulting in men going mad, causing the Breaking of the World. To add stakes to Rand slowly going mad and why people are so scared or hateful and why the Aes Sedai want to Cage the Dragon.
I wish they also explained and mentioned the Game of Houses more, especially in an episode with the same title lol for non book readers who would be wondering what the heck does that title mean. It was mentioned shortly previously but it might haven't been memorable at the time

@@cait_bean right? I mean, if we really crave show vs book discussions there are a lot of other channels for that too. Me, I'm personally here for the fresh perspective of a non reader
I think the sun is a reference to the fact that different Legends call The Dragon different things, sometimes, and book readers told me that in one of the Legends the dragon is called the lightbringer... Which is technically a reference to Lucifer... So yeah maybe that's why there's a sun on the back of his fancy robe? Idk just speculation based on what some info book readers have told me. 🤷♀️
You're kinda right with the Lucifer influences. But in-world, the fancy robe is just a fancy robe, bought in Cairhien whose emblem is the Rising Sun (the monarch's throne and palace are called the Sun Throne and the Sun Palace). It's the merch and branding in Cairhien, and you know something's 'made in Cairhien' if it has the rising sun on it. Also, the symbol links Rand with another sun-related title which I won't spoil.
Certainly any book reader will agree on the episodes(if they like the show) - they have to cut and change so much just to fit it into the 8 episode mold of the show and it's missing a load of book stuff they could add or improve. This episode needed 10-20 min extra for each scene where they could have added more context and characterization. Next episode should be something.
As a book reader, this is the most divisive episode in my own mind and comes after my favorite two of the season (5 and 6 where 6 was the "best" but also hard to watch). Things I liked: Elayne and Nyneave going to rescue Eqwene. Mat when he's sassy. Lan and Rand having a moment to bond. Verin being Verin. Barthanace's comeuppance. Also, the point that they don't screw around with darkfriends. Things I really didn't like: Suian using the Oath against Moiraine. I hate this! It is little better than Compulsion pure and simple. More... ??? With Mat. I have zero idea how he gets where he is going but none of the vision quest thing seemed to have a point, at lease one I could determine. And the season is rapidly running out. Mat and Min specifically have been my low points for a while. Donal Finn *is* Mat, that is clear. But his plot line... ugh. Aviendha's punishment. That isn't how Toh works. She would have zero guilt if her cousin died in battle unless she did something specific and simply failing while doing her best wouldn't incur Toh. Also, being beaten is a very poor way to repay Toh. And Rand getting a bunch of people killed by Lanfear by asking for her help.
@@angemcauslan2551 I think they got deleted because I don't know who you were responding too. For a second I thought it was me and re-read everything I'd written.
Exactly. White tower law says Cage the Dragon, shield him, only let him channel when they want him to, and how they want him to, and at the Last battle use him as they want. Close to how the Seanchan are planning to use the damane. I believe the parallels are deliberate.
Yeah such an ick, but then the AS pov might be from their fear that DR is the most powerful channel and not wanting to risk him going mad and breaking the world all over again even before the Last Battle. And even the the chance that the Forsaken might get to him first anfmd turn him to the dark b4 LS. Normal head space for any person with so much uncertainty

@@aylinpatacsil846 ah, very cool! Yeah, I knew there was a chance it could be city symbols or something but didn't know what Cairhiens symbol was.
You are Rand's warder and I love it. Siuan is like Seanchan with that phrase😢
Can you make a video about ziro the hutt ?
Certainly any book reader will agree on the episodes(if they like the show) - they have to cut and change so much just to fit it into the 8 episode mold of the show and it's missing a load of book stuff they could add or improve. This episode needed 10-20 min extra for each scene where they could have added more context and characterization. Next episode should be something.
@fullmetalathlete I know you think it’s not a spoiler but book info = spoiler. Let the show add the info.
You may want to rewatch the Mat visions. They aren’t necessarily what they seem. If you look closely you will see some interesting things.
As a book reader, this is the most divisive episode in my own mind and comes after my favorite two of the season (5 and 6 where 6 was the "best" but also hard to watch).
Things I liked:
Elayne and Nyneave going to rescue Eqwene.
Mat when he's sassy.
Lan and Rand having a moment to bond.
Verin being Verin.
Barthanace's comeuppance. Also, the point that they don't screw around with darkfriends.
Things I really didn't like:
Suian using the Oath against Moiraine.

I find it funny that Mat is played by Finn.
@@Wouldyoukindly4545 it is very ironic.
@eliklein6873 it's very appropriate hahaha
The tea in my opinion is just a sleep tea. Ishamael can work in the dream world
In some ways I pity Renna. She is also a victim of her upbringing and culture.

I hate Siuan in the show. How is she any better than the shon Chan?
Exactly. White tower law says Cage the Dragon, shield him, only let him channel when they want him to, and how they want him to, and at the Last battle use him as they want. Close to how the Seanchan are planning to use the damane. I believe the parallels are deliberate.
Even the shot from shielded Rand to collared Egwene. It's definitely intentional.
Seriously? This show is garbage.
I won't call you garbage but you're pretty damn lame for coming here and getting riled up because someone likes a show you don't.
Why are you here then? It's actually super duper easy for you to just NOT click on videos of people who are very clearly enjoying the show. Just don't engage in this content and the algorithm on multiple different social media networks will not suggest it to you anymore. You deliberately interacting with this content will make UA-cam or other social medias think that you're interested and WANT to see more of it. So if you really don't want to hear ANYTHING about this adaptation... stop commenting on posts of people enjoying the show. Cuz you're just telling the algorithm "I would like to see more of this, please".
