- I had originally planned to go to the LA show but forgot to buy a ticket & the resale was very expensive, I then realized I could cut my Central and South America trip a few days short & fly to Chicago where resale tickets were not too bad.
You may be wondering how I pulled this off since it was a Yondr concert & people were patroling the aisles checking for people taking pics/video. I am not willing to fully explain it but i have been shooting fan videos of bands since 2001 & back then you had to be sneaky. That experience was handy so for this show I bought a Balcony box seat and suspected it would be a good vantage point to shoot with a well concealed small digital camera
Everything worked out & i am glad that U2/Bono fans from all over the world are discovering this recording and enjoying it.

This is something special. Not only in the grand sound of his singing, but in the quick, quiet moments of his speaking. There is a humbleness and understanding here. It helps me find my own soul and I am so grateful to have experienced this here. Thank you for posting.
Saw him in NY and I’m still in awe at what a magnificent show it was. I thought the Joshua Tree tour was the end all be all but this was a whole new level of greatness . I truly feel lucky to have been at the Beacon on May 3rd . Thank you Bono for doing this for your fans.

Oh good Lord! I forgot about Bono having open heart surgery! Thank you, Dr. David Adams for saving Bono’s life! That is one serious surgery. We all need Bono in our lives ❤
Somehow saw Bono on the 2nd show of this tour at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston last November with 2,700 other lucky fans. What a magical night; best performance I've ever witnessed, the entire audience was literally on the edge of our seats for two hours straight. Still can't believe it.
Whenever I've tried to describe the experience of being at this show to others (which I attended in Chicago), I have used words very much like yours. It was as if none of us even took a breath the whole time.

I was there that night. The BEST night of my life!!! And the first time that I ever saw him live, but algo I was so close. Such a blessing for me. By the way I almost died when I saw him.
My wife & I seen him in San Francisco at the Orpheum and were so taken with his performance. It's one thing to see him with the band doing his thing, but this was a whole different perspective that left us in awe. Your recording brought us back to that place and time. Thank you!

I saw the show in Glasgow, Scotland and met Bono where he signed my book. One of the best moments of my life! Thanks so much for sharing as it brought it all back and I noticed so many more details watching it again

Cant put book down, watch videos a d then listen to audiobook all day. Cant get enough. Amazing and pure. Absolutely something Bono can say he contributed to society and helped millions of souls who follow the music of U2 and let this band write lifes soundtracks. So incredible.

Wow! Wasn’t expecting to ever get to see this 🤯. Couldn’t help & take it in. To be there live was breathtaking. A night we will never forget. This brought back all the feels! Elated! 🎶🕊️🤍✨

I was there and considered the show a life-changing experience.. Impossible to put into words but seeing the video helps me recall some of the fascinating details.... To anyone who would like a clearer audio, I highly recommend the Audible version of the book, which also includes music and much of the very same content that's in the show. There is also at least one very good audio version in UA-cam, without the video. What a gift to the world Bono's openhearted story was and is.

Thanks for posting. It’s nice to get a glimpse of the show, since I won’t be attending in person. I was tempted to go to NY, but the prices are insane. Plus - seeing Bono up there alone just makes me miss the band. U2 is indeed much, much more than the sum of its parts.

As someone who shortsightedly never went to a live show until Sept. 29, 2023 at the Sphere, but who DID go to this Chicago Surrender show and found it transforming, it is reassuring to know that I apparently saved the best til last even though I will always wish I had gone to a concert previously. But I'm making up for it this year and next at the Sphere! Thanks be to God for these amazing musicians, with Bono as the primary, but not the only, spokesperson for this extraordinary band. We who are living in the same time frame that they are have been truly blessed by their gifts and presence in this world along with us.

The version of city of blinding lights at the end is one of the most beautiful versions i have ever heard, I really hope they will make this into an official live recording one day. Its just perfect

It was an amazing show! I was in row 13 on the floor to the right of Bono while looking at the stage. I had no idea the floor had the graphics on it (that it did) as I was looking up at Bono. I really didn't have an issue with our phones being locked up. I think it was hard for some to not think of this as a concert. We had a couple in front of me who kept getting up to dance. It was cute for the first hour, but annoying later in the show. Nice work getting a copy! The recording is marvelous.
Sorry but if you didnt feel the urge to stand up for most of these songs.. your dead inside!

Am watching "Pride" and tearing-up. The song is like an old friend & has meant so much to me since seeing it performed live in Adelaide (Australia) just after its release back in 1984. How ironic "Pride" was not played at Live Aid as Bono went completely off-script & off-stage during "Bad".

Thank yoy so much for sharing, great audio indeed. Funny, during the bridge of Beautiful Day here (1:40:40) "what you don't have, you don't need it now", screen went completely black. I thought it was a great show effect, turns out someone was blocking your camera for those few seconds!
I did notice that some people didn’t know when to laugh, clap etc. at our show you had the occasional drunk yell they love him, followed by an even more drunk dude. Great show , just some people have to do their homework

Good show but I’m glad I did not overpaid I trying to get tickets.
I love the audiobook and I was hoping some of the music sets would be longer. All are pretty short and leaves you wanting for more.

It must be weird, after seeing them live so many times, they always look at their happiest gathered round Larry’s drums, smiling, as if the crowd isn’t even there,tight af playing something off Boy. They’re my favourite bits.
Edge should just quietly go and do a solo album. That’d be weird.
Edge with a solo album would be epic if he wants - super abstract and ambient! Thom Yorke, Mellancamp, Eno, etc.

They should have a word with the lighting crew to get rid of that depressing darkness onstage and incorporate a bit of bright light for a change.
I don’t know how i feel about him singing without the band, it’s weird.
By the way the title of this should read Surrender, not Songs of Surrender (which was the title of U2's CD album released on March 17, 2023). The two projects had some correlation but were not identical. Both were retrospective look-back projects that no doubt helped get many fans primed for the current Sphere shows, wildly successful so far.
This is good. Don't like the dark lighting presentation though. Why not bright white light instead?
