U2 used to rehearse in the Edges garden shed which was directly above the fence to my back garden growing up in Malahide. They made an awful racket & I loved it. My neighbours didn’t ! They’re a brilliant band & it’s great to see Bono & Ali so obviously there for each other - Bono would not be Bono without Ali - she’s amazing. Long live U2 👍 - the Gorbachev story is fantastic. What a great man he was.
You should have grabbed a tape deck and recorded some bootlegs! Racket or not, they'd be worth a fortune now. If only we could see what fate has in store...
@@solitarianihilista1454 im not so sure. Have you HEARD their early demos? They are kinda awful😅. But that didnt matter much, did it?
@@solitarianihilista1454 hindsight is 20 / 20 vision but you’re right - definitely would be worth a few quid now 😬👍
About the Gorbachev....I don't think tne Russians will agreed with u there
See Bono old makes feel old now I'm 52 years older still love the Joshua tree , unforgettable fire , and more peace.
Went to Vegas and saw U2 at the sphere! IT WAS AMAZING!!!!
It certainly was!!!
I like hearing from Ali herself. Wish she would be given more opportunities to speak on her own. She seems so confident and cool.
Bet she could tell a lot
@@karenburns9952 e Katie G concordo com vocês.
I think she doesn't care about celebrity, or she has the decency of having a "normal" ego.
Being with Bono, which is the exact opposite, that makes some sense in my mind. I'm sure she had plenty of opportunities.
@@great_live_music Ali knew Bono when he was Paul , he’s NO celebrity to her ! She’s never treated him as one that makes a huge difference in a relationship .
@@lydialily846 Have I said he was a celebrity to her?
The original message from Katie G saying she would like to hear more from Ali, to which I responded she's not looking for celebrity, hence her discretion...
What an extraordinary story about Mikhail Gorbachev. What a beautiful and refreshing way of understanding freedom. Bono's book, especially the audio version, should be nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, it's that compelling as an artistic achievement. Inspiring and captivating on so many levels. What an extraordinary life and human.
I’m embarrassed I didn’t realise this , I’ll read up and get up to speed.
I think it can be said that Bono, and by extension U2, have endeavored to promote peace in this tumultuous world of ours.
Agreed about the audio version of Surrender. I have the hard cover, eBook, and audiobook. By far the audiobook is the best experience of these 40 songs and one story.
I’m listening to the audiobook & agree 💯 percent, it’s got to be one of the best ever made. It’s like a movie in sound.
How can that be? U2 hasn't made a good record in almost 40 years
1:32 “We played empty clubs like they were stadiums.”
Goosebumps all over my body.

I've met Bono and he is a genuinely nice man. His marriage says a lot.
Cheque is in the post
How does a marriage say anything? So people who get a divorce are bad?
@@OrangeTabbyCat You understand, I trust you.
Beside every great man, is an incredible woman....Ali is his rock...and the love they both have for each other is amazing...🇮🇪💚
God how I love Bono.. never have been lucky enough to hear from his lovely wife before, but it's clear why they've lasted. Love the men of this band and everything they stand for. One of my favorite bands! Music that's art, that speaks to a soul.. that has the power to HEAL a soul.. its so moving. I have so much respect for these musician's. Thank you all for your gift. 💕
@Richard Schiffman jealous are we🤣
@Richard Schiffman Careful what you wish on others ! It may come back 2 bite you !
Bono: sweet heart❤
Love him.

“Don’t look up, or down at me. Look across…” beautiful 😍
I sit here about to turn 61!! I was a teenager when I was introduced to this iconic brilliant band and all these years later their music then still sounds fresh and fits perfectly on any given day. Forever young because of music this beautiful human being gave us 👍
Well said Sheldon 🍺🍺
And their newer stuff from 2000-present isn't half-bad either.
Have you heard their live stuff from Vegas? Not good.
YESSSS!!! FULL TILT ROCK & ROLL ALBUM! I sure do miss them. I can't wait!
Once i heard the song "Grace" - i realised U2 had completely lost it - living on past glories these days, should call it a day
"Let's See colors that have never been seen ,let's Go to places No one Else has been." So deep ❤️
Not really.
I love Bono’s way of looking at life and the way he has kept his family together 😊
@Richard Schiffman You say that, but there's been many a millionaire celebrity that have been divorced.
And also as a second the band. Not many last this long.
Ali plays a huge role in Bono’s life & their family, they’re a great couple .
since when is Bono a christian? I'll say these people believe a lot of things, ask him, if Jesus is really the only way? as I know he is for the Ecumene, etc.
I think it's the other way around, Ali kept her family together.
Bono, Edge, Adam, Larry and Paul build a strong band that they succeeded to keep together.
Watching this I just realized that it was almost exactly 40 years ago that I saw U2 live for the first time. They've been amazing every time I've seen them since, and I can't wait to see them again. They are without a doubt one of the best bands of all time.
I’ve always loved INXS they were really awesome! U2 is also very good.
Same here. I forgot I saw them in 1984 in Hollywood, FL. One of the best concerts ever, all those wonderful old songs.
Ali Hewson is an amazing woman for that work she does AND to put up with Bono for over 40 years. LOL I love them both.... they do so much for world that a lot of people don't even know about. Thankless work really....
For 39 years, been watching live at red rocks and it never gets old!
Not that many x as you but it never gets old.
Been watching Red Rocks show since ‘83! That concert is just captivating!! From then on I was a lifelong U2 fan! Even visited Ireland in ‘84 to see Slane Castle where they recorded Unforgettable Fire..
I've been a fan of U2 since their beginning. Most of their music has overtones of faith, positivity, and a message of making a difference in the world ... such a great group of talent, that hasn't succumbed to the stereotypical rock star lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, and adultry. Keep rockin', guys .. you're the best, according to my ears, anyway.
As a fan & an Irish ☘️ person I thank you 🙏 most sincerely ..
Don't fool yourself, they had their share of drugs and alcohol. Not so sure about adultery, but they were not saints in their 30s.
As a nice Irish whisky, they aged well!
I may have NOT been there in the beginning but have since 1981 and first ' I will fallow and then, on to my fave ' GLORIA!! I have been Hooked ever since !! U2 is fave band, Bono!! Bono girl for LIFE!!!!
I’m not sure about the no adultery comment.
Even the Edge said in an interview decades ago "Bono's DRUG of choice......is women".
Not a surprise.
Even his speaking captivates you with such poetic charisma. The dynamic between Ali and him is heavenly yet so real!💕
we can have the same
Get a grip.
@@eilidh771why?
I saw U2 in 1992. At some point in the show they played "Where the Streets Have No Name". Thinking of that moment still gives me chills. Fast forward...I saw the Disney+ documentary with Edge, Bono and David Letterman yesterday, and I fell in love with this band all over again. They're just good people.
I wonder if Bono misses Jeff Epstein.
I'd love to have someone in my life like that. They are happy and amazing together, and U2 is timeless. 40+ yrs and still in love. 🥰🥰 Thank you for the music, it's been a part of my life since 1983.
Awesome interview Bono never ceases to amaze me. I have been a U2 fan forever❣️
I Can't wait for the new album ❤️✌️
Great interview , love them both Ali is gorgeous , Bono is the best .. Loved this band since they started ❤️🎶
Absolutely eloquent. I watched the interview 3 times...each time yearning for more insight, looking at a world with more commonality, the power of love and respect for the universe and fellow man and tears of hope!
Thank you
I could listen to Bono talk for hours when he is chilled out like this.
It's a Beautiful Day !!!
Bono is a person who, I could listen too , all day long !!!
Rube
I really like the fact U2 never changed the line-up
I have been into U2 since 'Boy' reading Bono's autobiography right now - where have all those years gone!
Right there with you!
I saw the "Boy" and "October" tours in the same club in Houston, April 1, 1981 and February 15, 1982. It was great shows in a small, small venue.
greatest band the world has ever heard or seen as well as LIVE ... I wouldn't want to live in a world without U2's existence.
If you knew more about them, you would eat those words. Guaranteed.
That's exactly how i feel about them!
I would still want to live without them but so glad I live with them. Greatest band ever!
@@lulubelle8119um no…guaranteed according to who?…you?
Guaranteed you’re wrong.

I love all of U2s music past and present and this was a really heartfelt interview of bono and ali.
Fun fact: when Joy Division were recording their second album Closer, U2 were in the same studio recording their first album Boy!
I have had the pleasure of meeting Bono. He is a class act, totally genuine, and a role model in many ways for how to be a good human.
The band has literally been with me along the journey of life. I went to a concert in Syracuse NY as a teen and then again at 37 with my daughter. I remember as a teen watching their iconic video where they are in LA on the roof top singing, stopping traffic. It was a "wow" moment. I think that song is my life's theme song. lol.
I can't wait for that album!!💝
THAT ALBUM TEASEEEE! And what a fantastic interview
Bono.. lovely thoughtful person..great attitude of life.. would love to meet you and the band.. keep up the brilliant work
I think Bono is 1/4 of the reason why U2 is the only band in history who are still together after 40 years; same lineup and not one od'd. If any member had doubts about continuing years ago, he talked them into staying.
Very good point. I was mentioning this to me mate last month as I listened to the book. Not one change in the band despite all the change to the music and time. Speaks strongly to the power of real friendship and agreed purpose... and faith.
Have you heard about a band called The Rolling Stones?
@@MIB_63 Yes. The Rolling Stones are an amazing group that lost one of its original members (Brian Jones) after he drowned in a pool. But let's not bring up the other sides of the Stones. Jagger's underage relationship with Tommy Chong’s daughter, Rae Dawn. The drugs. And Keith Richards. Great band with a lot of track marks .
That we know of. Adam's Zoo TV/Zooropa meltdown was the closest U2 came to losing a member. Clayton was deep into alcohol and drugs back then, and I suspect harder drugs as well. He was in a brief relationship with Naomi Campbell during that time. She was a huge cokehead in the 90s. I'm sure he did lines of coke on her naked body lol.
Also, The Edge talked about experimenting with psychedelics in Bill Flanagan's "Until the End of the World" book.
@@MIB_63 Brian Jones died early on. Ian Stewart (keys) passed away, and Bill Wyman supposedly chose to stop touring because he had a "fear of flying" (or his relationship was a PR disaster for the band). Along the way Mick Taylor passed in and out of the band. Now Charlie Watts gone. So no, the Rolling Stones you see today will not be the same one from the Marquee Club in 1963.
This was a pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed this interview. Bono is a lot richer and deeper in character than I thought. Sunday Bloody Sunday is memorable, however the song that sticks with me is New Year's Day. I was young, broke, living 2,500 miles away from home. After work one day I went with a friend to her parent's house and they had MTV. New Year's Day started to play and I was mesmerized. So long ago and yet, in some ways not really.
Finished the audiobook, it was so Amazing! I'm listening again! I can't get enough of Bono! I'm so excited to hear there will be another album! I thought Songs of Experience was the finale. I cried at that concert thinking it might be the last time I see U2 live! Thank you for giving me something to look forward to! Peace and Love!
@Bono is this the real Bono????!!!!
@Bono Seriously?! I think I will actually have a heart attack if this is BONO!
@Bono 10th grade, 1987, Joshua Tree tour!
@@michelleherter269 If you check this "Bono" account, you will see that it has no content and only 10 subscribers. That should tell you all you need to know to determine if this is really Bono responding to you. Don't be fooled.
@@stevebean1543 I figured! Just like to play the game! Not sure what people get out of scamming others?? Thanks for the concern! ☮️
Gotta love Ali - She’s an absolute Saint ! ❤❤
Absolutely an extremely interesting interview which gives you a whole new outlook about different types of life. Bono just grabs my attention in anything he talks about. ❤️🔥
🙌👏
This was wonderful! We love you Bono and Ali!
I love this man....and will always do❤
It’s hard not to like him.
I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert back in 1992, I believe it was their Zoo T.V. Tour. Great concert, incredible Band!
My dream concert. I wish :)
This album ‘bouts to be fire.
Wow, what a beautiful conversation
How nice to see a marriage lasting over 40 years.
God bless this ❤️band U2🇧🇷🇺🇲
Thank you so much forever Bono from. Brazil 🇧🇷🇺🇲2💋❤️
Unforgettable experience at one their Concerts. "Walk On " Song is imprinted in my mind forever🎉.
There's always something to learn from this band, from Bono, from interviews like this. Taking aside the artistic creativity of U2 one must find the heart of the band in their believe in music as a source of change and transformation. They believed, as they still do, that a situation can be fixed by means of music. Plus, it's kind of admirable the commitment in urgent causes such as the russian situation, the floods in Africa, the food and fight against poverty in needed places in the world. To me in U2 music is completely based in life, freedom and personal actions.
My favorite U2 quote ...
"We were a Band before we could Play..
They definitely had the IT factor from Day One....
I'm 56 an American who lived in Ireland from 14 to 23...
Grew up on classic rock..
U2 certainly weren't musical virtuoso's that Led Zep or Rush were...but the 1st album grabbed me like no other....
Your right not virtuoso’s by any means. I learned to play guitar as a huge U2 and LZ fan. Oddly enough as amazing as Jimmy Page is, you can learn to play his songs acoustically and have fun with it, even sound very similar. U2 forget it, the Edges style is so unique and intricate it makes it very hard to do the same.
1:55 interesting that he described her as "a mystery" considering he wrote "She's a Mystery to Me" for Roy Orbison's final album, Mystery Girl, in 1989 and she appeared in the music video for the song as the "mystery girl" Hauntingly beautiful song written and sang to perfection.
"She Moves In Mysterious Ways"
Amazing band , and bono is an amazing human being
What is extraordinary about this band is.... they are still together because.... they love each other. Their latest productions were not that great but they released quite a few great albums, and really great songs and they passed the test of time, so well done lads!
Songs of Experience was poppy, yes, but the songs are solid. 40 is also a great collection. Innocence wasn't great, but other than that I wouldn't say there's been a bad album ever, really.
They are also still together because they are one of the rare bands that split everything evenly regardless of who has songwriting credit etc. so it eliminates the animosity that is the demise of so many other bands .
Bono and Ali are still looking good now 40 years and counting.
Totally agree with what's been said about Gorbachev. I will never forget that day he changed history.
Love Bono & Ali, they are so lucky to have each other!
Fell in love with U2 at age 16 1991..inspired me for the rest of my life.
I have had dreams for years that I was talking with Bono and his wife. Very proud of them and their accomplishments!!! Kc fan always
Great interview. In one word: absolutely brilliant!
We Made it to Nashville twice this year, first to see Eli perform in Inhaler, then to see Bono (without the band)
Loved that. U2 new album that sounds, according to Bono, raw.....can't wait.
Love this. ❤
I was 9 years old when I first heard war. It changed my life. That aside for me it’s the lyrics that do it. I’ll leave you all with this one - Laughter is the evidence of freedom.
Finally got to see an interview with Bono and his beautiful wife. I have dreams that I have talked with them for years- very proud of their accomplishments !!!
*i just made a lil short singing 'New Year's Day' on the 1st. U2 makes my soul happy!!!* 🕊
Amazing interview
Wonderful segment
This was great! Stumbled upon this as it is MLK Day and I was listening to Pride In The Name Of Love.
First saw them 1984. Amazing band.
I have followed U2 since the very beginning.💖🌹💖 She walks in mysterious ways.☺️
From what i read years ago, they have a lovely love story the kind movies r made of.
I always though of her as beautiful and lovely. And she seems to be a good hearted person. You r lucky Bono!
loves name dropping ... finding the book a hard reason in so many ways noting rock and roll
Nice interview. Thank you! ❤🔥
I agree.
amazing U2 couple Bono and Ali they are magic🥰🤩💖💖❤❤

U2 and Duran Duran has been the two most powerful music influence in my life..From the beginning til this day I'll always be the most loyal fan.
Aaaaawe. my heart ❤️ !!! They are 😍 amazing!!!
My god look at Ali, she looks amazing, so gorgeous.
Really enjoyed that. Loved U2 in a previous life
Yeah, but not this one.
Amazing his resemblance to Robin Williams.
True. If RW could have made a biopic on him😀
I wish I was at the autograph signing in LA. Keep making music. Keep touring.
@Sean McLaughlin I totally agree. A great interview here, especially the Mikhail Gorbachev story.
U2 is one of my favorite bands. Love Bono. I am Happy that they are going to do another Rock and Roll Album. We need that. He never gets boring.
Bono is always engaging. Cool to see and hear him with his wife in an interview as well.
12:53 BEST ANSWER of the entire interview.
I think h started as idealistic. His iwife seems a really nice person. Unfortunately bono hangs out with unsavoury types like wef and pelosi
I was in the front row, the concert was in Boston and video taped. I've been looking for the footage. I lost my T Shirt from the War! Tour. I've seen U2 four times, because The Edge cousin was Irish she went to our college. I also knew Bonos stock broker! Changed my life's direction for the better, thank you.
Now I understand the reason why Bono is as awesome as he is
It's because of her
A voz do Bono traz uma sensação boa e uma tranquilidade❤
Excellent Interview
It’s always a pleasure to listen to Bono ! ❤
"A full-tilt rock and roll album" !!!!! Yeah!!!!!

First show: The Unforgettable Fire tour, Hollywood Sportatorium, Florida circa 1984. Grateful.
Bono and his wife are so grounded. That is why they are still together. Just like Sting and Trudi. Lovely story about Gorbachev. What a shame he isn’t in power today.
