    edit: ah fuck @ 1:56 i forgot to replace the on screen element. that's alrexx's map not puxorb :P
    (they were given a week for this btw) (all relevant 100 player server info in description)
    this is really not the type of video i usually make but it’s no ad revenue january so i wanted to give it a shot, both for myself to get better at making other kinds of videos, but also if viewers think it’s entertaining :) also also curious about: if i add new features to the 100 plyr server like a new map pack, donator perks, etc etc, is that worth making a video about? to me just writing an update in discord seems sufficient but idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    also yeah i'll make a video about the 64 bit business lol

      @damsen978Hydro doesn’t do it randomly(or maybe it did and I just have awful memory). Even then, the actual reason people didn’t like Hydro because the game mode it’s in is more complex than it should be and stretches on for long periods of time.
      As someone who played it somewhat often on the Orange Box, the average match on there, although fun, was *stupidly* lengthy, and the map became confusing to move through when you forgot what stage you were on. And then by the time you figure out what’s going on, it’s a stalemate and now it’s time for sudden death.
      EDIT: It was random according to UA-cam vids and the official wiki, so just shit memory

    I'm genuinely impressed by so many of the art passes here.
    I think this video is testament to how fundamental Hammer is still after all this time.
    Hammer++ is a much needed refresh, but Valve's decision to release the Source SDK at all is one of the best longstanding decisions in gaming,
    since it all leads up to joint community efforts like this that we can all partake and enjoy in.

    A bit disappointed only one person went with the Half Life theme, and *no one* went with a full on Black Mesa theme. There was so much potential there, fighting all the way to first get the anomalous material into the carrier and then over to the final checkpoint to start the resonance cascade. The regular TF2-like aesthetic slowly gaining more and more Black Mesa realism step by step.

      @bugjams 11 місяців тому +7

      Fr. Alrexx's map won in every other category imo except the spiral. I'm kind of hoping, now that everyone's seen each other's maps, that be changes the spiral to a giant drill somehow. Such a cool concept.

    • @mikeyes620
      @mikeyes620 11 місяців тому +8

      @bugjams I agree, but the area around the spiral is definitely what won Alrexx the category. It was definitely a more complete package worthy of the win. If i desperately wanted to have the drill I would swap the spiral build for the drill idea to forshadow the cave later, but implement the best parts of the current tower, like the lights and the gass/steam for gameplay. It's fine as is though.

    DBZ is an incredibly cool-looking map, and I am surprised it works for a 100 player lobby! That being said, I think there is 1 thing that should be done for a map made for that large of a lobby:
    Decrease the speed the cart moves at per player pushing it, but increase the push cap significantly. Maybe its speed could cap at 10 players, and move a bit faster than carts on maps made for smaller lobbies?

    This community has the most dedication of any ive ever seen. From emesis blue, to magnificent 9, another feature length film coming out in a couple days, to this, taking advantage of a random cliffnote in the summer update that was probably added without much thought, and creating an entire map around this idea. Cant wait to play on this masterpiece, and i hope this map and 100 players as an official gamemode releases for casual. Thank you tf2 community for being the best, and making me proud to be a part of it.

    I'd actually love more hybrid maps.
    Like yeah we already know pl cp and ctf but why don't we just combine them for the ultimate challange?
    Like imagine a payload race, where both teams fight to cap a neutral flag for their team to open up the way for their payload.
    Or a dominion match where the last point of both teams is protected like in Degroot keep, and you have to bring a flag to the enemy side to give a chance to push last.
    Hell what if it's just an entire gauntlet of every game mode on one giant map?

    Puxorb's map design fits a lot better with the game lore, since the entire series of events in TF2 was kicked off when Redmond and Blutarch Mann inherited a ton of empty wasteland from their father (who died of every illness known to man when travelling to see aforementioned land that the two idiot sons bought) and started fighting over it. In the official lore, it's just because the two of them hate each other and are trying to take all of the land for themselves. The original business plan for the empty desert was gravel mining for weapons manufacturing(?)

    • @cloudynguyen6527
      @cloudynguyen6527 5 місяців тому +2

      Gravel and coal mining are their main business. Weapon manufacturing comes from Mannco and I don't think Mannco manufactures their weapons in middle of nowhere

    • @spamuel98
      @spamuel98 5 місяців тому +1

      @@cloudynguyen6527 The CEO of Mann Co is Saxton Hale, so it's a fair bet to assume the weapons manufacturing takes place in Australia. Or maybe the entirety of the Mann estate is actually in Australia, and they were able to get the land so cheaply because it was the Australian outback where people can't live in any meaningful numbers due to the lack of water, and the mercenaries travel there from their home countries for work.

I'm looking forward to more communally made maps in the future, there's so many gamemodes after all! attack/defend, 5cp, king of the hill... arena? hell, maybe even territorial control might be worth revisiting in this way. the gamemodes with symmetrical maps would require half the effort (just develop half and mirror it) and it would be just on someone to art pass the 2 sides, there's so much potential here.
