    The cams are probably designed that way to save the vavles and pistons in this situation, being used to cast cams I would be scratching my head if I didnt know! you learn something every day! great content always grab a beer and sit down for the next installment keep up the good work and keep on making a few bob all the best Paul

    In all my years I thought that all camshafts were a single cast, today I've learned something new, a big reason I'm a petrolhead because there's always something new to learn. The knowledge you guys have is impressive, I've been out of the trade for a lot of years now and these videos really bring that home to me.

    Love each time Chris shows things like he did with the cam, just shows that manufacturing changes and that the lobes can be moved. Could have a good van there, possibly the belt was stripped when the pump seized, I reckon that’s the new belt the garage tried on it when they had it. Great job guys as always 👍

    I learned something new today about how modern camshafts are assembled. I always thought that they were machined from solid. I think that the belt with the stripped teeth ended up in the bin. Your joint experience at fault finding is second to none. Hope the valves are ok, signs are good in this case.

  • @karter5351
    @karter5351 2 роки тому +3

    I never knew cam lobes scould move like that, I thought they were all solid like the replacement, never stop learning watching you guys. It could be that the Garage ordered up a new belt, got the old one off, noticed the waterpump goosed and belt teeth missing, sent the old belt to Turkey. Threw the mount back on and threw the new belt in the cab

    It never ceases to amaze me the gems that are revealed when repairing these modern engines, I like many other thought that cams were milled from solid billets. When you did the transit and delved into the depths of that engine to reveal a wet belt drive to the oil pump! Your videos are are a treasure trove to the guys who do their own servicing and also repair vehicles. It is also alarming to know how many unscrupulous operators there are out there who bodge up vehicles up to make a fast buck. Twin loading doors, auto, and in great nick - Bring it on 😎 Merry Christmas guys 🌲🥂

  • @iainf
    @iainf 2 роки тому +1

    Interestingly you could reset the lobes but you’d need to know the duration between peak lift on inlet & exhaust, half this on no 4 them you’re at tdc on no 1.
    You could also work forwards from peak lift on no1. Cams like the same lift/timing on inlet & exhaust on overlap. This isn’t a race engine.
    When I was mix & matching my old diesel fergie block & heads I took this approach from my race days & the old girl starts hot or cold & no smoke when running !

    I liked the detailed explanation. It seems to me that these cams are built as a fail safe device which would make absolute sense. As you say though it is not always ideal working on something that others have messed about with but I know you two will have it running in no time. We all understand that this is your main business and that we are along for the ride although perhaps some newer subscriber's may not so it is worthwhile mentioning that once in a white. Thanks Rob and Chris for another great video. 👍

    Really interesting. I didn’t know such cam shafts exist. Good idea to save bending the valves though.

    Great explanation on the rocker cam, but chris mentioned something about the cams being pressed on..........are they welded in place by the manufacturers? - The three teeth missing could be on an old belt that never cames with the vehicle.

    That will make someone a lovely little workhorse, knowing how diligent you and Chris are it'll be a good purchase. Thank you so much for your videos in the last year, it's helped me through some dark times healthwise. Merry Christmas and a happy and salvageable 2022 to you both.

    Rob had the exact same issue,water pump collapsed and spun the lobes on the cam and broke some rocker,,never had any bent valves,replaced the rockers and cam and away she went
