    Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

    What it looked like to me was that shooting the core has less to do with pressure and more with an arterial draw. That is why the upper ones tend to fill faster than the lower ones. If there is a flaw in the core then pressure comes into play. What was cool to see with the bloodline was the pearl purging the purple out of the belly and into the tail then the belly filling with pearl creating a nearly flawless laminate. A huge THANK YOU to Josh for covering his CNC machines with plastic shavings so that we could see this. Also a huge THANK YOU to both you and Josh for incurring the cost of this demonstration. The loss of production time and expense at AI just to produce these molds may not be fully realized by all viewers. 👍🍺🎣

  • @GetSomeKyle

    On the core-shot that didn't fill all the way, I'd say the fluid pressure wasn't high enough to fill the bottom until the spru was about half full. In the slow motion video, you can see it tried to fill about half way through the pour but the material that hit the bottom of the spru first probably chilled, skinned over and clogged the in-gate to the bottom cavity. It happens a lot in the casting world and it's called a cold shut. The only way to prevent this is to build pressure faster, keep the material hotter/insulated or increase the in-gate size to lower the sensitivity of clogging due to chilled material/low pressure. You hit 2/3 on those options on the blue and clear core-shot. With 8 years of experience in the casting industry and a passion for fishing, this video was awesome. Great work!

    Interesting to watch. I would like to see a follow up video of you using sprue extenders on your largest bait to see how the extender allows for more plastic to get sucked in. From the video you just shared, I don't see a lot of opportunity for the mold to suck in additional plastic even when you topped it off. There some back vacumm action when you pulled off the injector that you can see the plastic actually get pulled back out of the stick worm. That was neat. (the TPG Baits guy)

    • @WorldsWorstFishing
      @WorldsWorstFishing  4 роки тому +1

      hey ben!! the runners supply enough plastic for the cavities to draw in...I mean the real molds work well so there is enough runner to work...that one core that didnt fill in went backward and shot air back out the sprue..would have never known that haha.

    I’m very new to soft plastic making but I’d be willing to bet that the mold cooled down the first bit of plastic enough that it didn’t flow well, where the plastic above that was contacting already warm mold (plus more thermal mass from the surrounding plastic). When using the Jann Netcraft molds, I found that before pouring the mold, I needed to dump a little bit out because the pour spout on the measuring cup was cool enough that the first bit of plastic would set way too fast. Dumping a little bit on the counter right before pouring brought the cup up to temp in that area and fixed the problem. I’m guessing that’s why the hotter temp filled out better. A deeper / larger sprue might let more hot plastic build up in the bottom before going into the first cavity. If it extended down past that first one another 1/2” for instance, you’d have a bigger volume of plastic built up before it starts to fill out, if that makes any sense.

    The bottom one didn't fill, most likely because your runner was too wide, which created a higher pressure than what the air needed to escape. If you made the bottom part of the runner deeper, it may have filled.
    At 9:53, you can see the pressure equalize (the resin moves back), once you release pressure in your injector.
    Also, not sure why your mold is sideways, would be much easier and hassle free, flipped 90° facing up.
    If you need to keep this design, you should add vents (air escapes) on the opposite end of your parts, which direct airflow back to the top and out. Injection molding, these can be 0.025 mm (4-8k tons/in²), but since you're not applying a lot of pressure, I'd aim for 1 - 2 mm, depending how quickly your resin/silicone settles. It's easier to cut of the ends, than to lose a part.
    Which is another thing, not sure what resin you're using that it's exotherm'ing so quickly. If you're able to, I'd let it exotherm naturally, then post-cure it if you need the extra thermal and mechanical properties. In fact, if you're heating it on purpose, there's a chance you're losing properties.
    Also, a lot more expensive and harder to get, you could try polysulfone for your mold, especially one reinforced. You can get the Tg over 400F. If mold clarity is absolutely necessary.

    The clear molds really give you a good look at how the plastic flows. But I have a question about these types of molds and the air. For stick worm for example. It fills bottom to top, left to right when its hot enough. As it is filling in from the left where does the trapped air stuck in the tips/right side go? I don't see it pushing out the fill end. Or is there enough space in the mold that the air can escape the cracks but the plastic is too thick? I don't see any sprue holes like you would on a hand pour closed mold.

    Havent read thru all comments to see if its been mentioned but you may need to vent the end of the cavity to allow air to escape when filling. Otherwise you pressurize the cavity and it prevents the resin from flowing to the end. Common issue in traditional injection molding, especially when filling at extremely high fill rates.

    First off thank you for the videos. I’ve really enjoyed watching these and it’s spurred me to look into making my own baits for up here in the PNW. Quick question, I’ve watched your video on how to do two tone baits but I was curious if you’ve tried to make them the same way you do using the core shot molds, ie make a shell, trim one an inch or so off either or both ends and them shooting the core.
