I just drove off the lot in a brand new Toyota Tacoma Sr automatic and I had complete transmission failure. The truck had 8 miles on it.
Did the dealer tell you anything about why or what exactly failed?
Right, if so post dealers name and your vin so we all can check to see if it's BS or not.
@@fredsausage8794Galaxy Toyota in Eatontown New Jersey. 2024 Taco Sr
@@fredsausage8794I’m not posting the vin
@@fredsausage8794 face it...2024 tacomas are trash....deal with it, and move on. join a support group that deals with the loss of toyota's reliability, ask your doctor if resulta is right for you.
Been driving manuals for many years. As much as I hate to admit I have mis shifted myself and hit 1st instead of 3rd. I always got an immediate rev from engine and instantly knew to hit the clutch fast. When he supposedly hit 1st the failure was instant. Is the transmission made of glass.
I looked today now it's up to 12 transmission reports
i drive an 04 manual tacoma and to go from 5th to 1st you would have to literally shove that thing into 1st to get it into there.. it would not be natural at all and would be very difficult to do
Sorry, I have driven manual transmission for 40 years. He did NOT shift from 5th to 1st. Not buying it
The synchros make it hard to even get it into 1st gear at that speed. And if you had actually managed to get it into 1st and dropped the clutch, it's a very violent thing. The engine certainly would have revved higher than 4500 rpm. They were moving at around 50 mph, which would have been close to 10k rpm in 1st gear. Toyota made heavy revisions to the rev matching feature. Personally, I think the clutch failed because the system neeeded more tuning or calibration, much like the torque management needed tuning due to the 4WD failures.
Whatever he shifted at, the transmission didnt fail on that truck, the clutch completely blew up. So the bigger question is wtf is up in that clutch setup?
I agree, if it was a money shift from 5th to first would've blown the engine.
Have the 24 trd pro and have hard shifts and gear skipping. Dealer can’t replicate so no fix
I was skeptical on the Toyota explanation of the Truck King transmission failure. Now we have this TSB.
There is a TSB for 41,000 Tacoma automatic transmissions per TRDjohn. They are replacing them.
Yup, ran a video on that last week.
@Pickuptrucktalk good, glad you updated the major problem.
I can imagine if my truck will have this issue after 60k miles, and they are going to replace the whole transmission, that will be a lot of money.
Next time you talk to a Toyota rep, I'd be interested in knowing what percentage of their product lines are actually sold with a manual transmission.
As for the livestream question about subscriptions.... not a single penny. Zero, zip, naught, bupkis, nada, zilch; choose any term you like but I don't do subscriptions for things I already purchased.
The data with the 3rd gen was surprising. The take rate on the manual was very low. I actually give Toyota credit for keeping the manual despite the low volumes they sell. It was around 5% if my memory serves me correctly.
He tried going from 5th to 3rd. Toyota claims that he made a mistake and went from 5th to 1st that's why it broke.
@371kenny Claims being the operative word. They also claim the Tundra engine failures were due to debris from manufacturing, but shortly before announcing the partial recall, they changed two of the main bearings to an updated part. The same bearings that typically failed in those engines.
Truck king was promoted to a king before his time, title should be truck shifting 'serf'
Like I’ve been saying it on multiple UA-cam channels it’s called Poor quality parts and not inspected them closely before Assembled the transmission but Still falls back on Toyota engineers for using inferior or poor Quality dies to build the transmission parts
Yeah... Bullcrap. He did not try going into first. He went from 5th to 3rd.
Toyota quality has been goijg down for 20+ years. We went from a A750 5-speed that can handle A V8 and go 1 million miles . . .to this. ..
I thought TK tried to shift from 6th to 3rd when the transmission failed but, Toyota told them he shifted into 1st gear.
TK was sure he hit 3rd but, couldn’t swear to it!
I don’t know why anyone in a p/u would downshift that many gears? It’s not a race care and isn’t equipped with a a dual clutch system but he is Canadian. ;)
As always stay safe and healthy.
I think he shifted from 5th to 3rd. It's hard to even force the shifter into 1st at those speeds. My 2nd was like that at least. I think TK didn't want to push back against Toyota for fear they wouldn't be given access to Toyota review vehicles and get invited to press events in the future. I mean, the engine didn't even rev up like he engaged 1st. 50 mph in 1st gear is nearly 10k rpm. I think the rev matching feature just wasn't tuned well for downshifting 2 gears, even though it should have been fine. It was just enough of a speed mismatch that it damaged the clutch. I agree though, it's not a sports car and I wouldn't be skipping gears in a downshift like that either.
No excuse for the clutch failure
But why would anyone shift from 5th to 3rd on a flat road doing 50mph
@joeblack1052 It was to show off the fact that the truck comes with automatic rev-matching which is normally limited to sports cars. Toyota made changes to the system but obviously there is a software issue that caused a mismatched speede. Similar to how TFL exceeded the torque limits of the 4th gen's 4WD system by something like 1.7% due to an issue with the software used to manage the engine's torque output.
@@hochhaul that 1.7% excuse was laughable
1.7% over design limit shouldn’t do anything and certainly not in a single instance
If maximum payload on the truck is 1300lbs then 1.7% over that max would be 22lbs
That wouldn’t be an issue
If it is engineered to that sort of tolerance then it is not fit for purpose
That is a disgrace
I have asked the same question.
When I do a money shift like that, the gear I select has to match the speed. For instance like going up a steep grade in fifth or sixth. Maybe I am just too old school.
What evidence to say he did ? Can they track what gear he shifted ,
Modern manual transmissions are electronically monitored for auto rev matching.
There’s no problem, but anyway, techs if you see this replace the trans
Seems like all these components are right on the edge of design limits.
Sure, here's a revised version of your text:
Yes, there will be issues with the new Tacoma since it's a fully redesigned truck. Overall, I believe Toyota has done a great job. I like its look, both inside and out, and the options for manual transmission and a hybrid version are definite pluses. It's powerful yet more economical than the previous version. However, the rear space is cramped, and the lack of rear A/C vents is a downside. Additionally, the ride is too stiff for my liking, and the biggest drawback is the price.
For those criticizing the new Tacoma, I suggest considering other options. The competition is strong. If money weren't an issue, I would have opted for the Ranger Raptor or the ZR2 Bison. Despite its age, even with a facelift, the Ridgeline might be the best mid-size truck available. While it doesn't tow as much as the others, I wouldn't tow a 7,000-pound trailer with any mid-size truck. My maximum would be 5,000 pounds, and I believe the Ridgeline can handle that. The other con for the Ridgeline is the ground clearance, but it has a good payload, great interior space, and a good engine. It also rides the best in its class.
Zero subscriptions fees
I’ve never understood why people buy new just to dump them, makes no sense
Toyota did not use this logic on the exploding tundras
The father was shifting from 5th gear to third gear, but he shifted it 1st gear and blowing the clutch…
@toretawal It certainly didn't look like he shifted into 1st gear.
nothing can fix a completely flawed vehicle
