We have two (06 Corolla and 08 Tacoma) we bought NEW that were Assembled at the NUMI Plant (former GM and current Tesla) in Fremont, CA. Have had ZERO issues with both BUT all the parts(maybe not the tires) came from Japan, Fremont was Assembly only.
@@darnellwilliams3823 As I understand it, "J" means Country of Assembly was Japan. By extension I assume all parts were of Japanese manufacture as well.
Most cars are manufactured in Mexico cause it’s cheaper to do it, it’s not the country they’re coming from, it’s new technology cars are being equipped with. New sensors and all that stuff are a pain in the a**. Once they fail, everything does and it’s not cheap to fix like old cars used to.
From what I have heard they have been for awhile. They have had a good rep. for awhile but I was never impressed with the vehicle. Not the same level as the 4 Runner!
I’m a retired maintenance engineer with many years of experience in production management, maintenance and project engineering , in my over 40 years in manufacturing here in Canada I have always been amazed at the high level of education of the workforce. This for sure has been the reason why manufacturers in this country can make high quality products.
Glad I have my 2019 Nissan Murano! No recalls, no turbocharger, no cylinder deactivation, no start stop. 75,000 and not a trip to the dealer for any unexpected repairs.
@@aussie2uGA You're absolutely right! That's what the 15 year/million mile platinum extended warranty is for! I hope it goes out so I get my money's worth. 😁
I do think the more recent models have improved CVTs compared to when they first came out. I was also told that Altimas, Rogues, and Sentras have the highest CVT failures among the Nissan brand. They still fail in the Murano, just not as many.
I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
@@Anthony-gm2xi The last administration ran the debt up by almost 8 trillion dollars as well. We can't vote our way out of this. There will come a point when printing money no longer works and the whole thing will come crashing down.
My biggest issue with modern vehicles is that, for every convenience that they seem to bring, they also bring with it some new annoyance or hassle that didn’t exist in previous generations of vehicles. I get tired of some beeping or flashing because I didn’t buckle the seatbelt fast enough, or when the stupid auto brake system engages whenever it feels like it: I mean, who is supposed to be driving this thing, me or the onboard computer? Will Honda pay the accident bill if one happens because the car (not the driver) decides when it’s time to slam the brakes without warning? I hate modern cars!!
You and me both. I won't buy a car like that. I'll keep fixing my older car till it's no longer viable to do so, at which point hopefully I'll be too old to care.
A new tacoma looked so tempting. Glad I held out and kept my 02' tacoma 318k miles, original engine and 5spd manual transmission. Change oil every 3 months religiously and every 50k I drain and fill transmission and differential.
You’re 100% correct about dealerships. You know I would actually still be a mechanic if it was an hourly wage job. I quit the trade after two years and became an electrician and now make $40 an hour as a journeyman.
2008 Yaris are garbage. They start to use electric power steering and drive by wires. The are failing within 3 years. I'll buy 2010s or older using hydraulic power steering.
Mechanics are getting smart and finding jobs with their respective cities, state or at government level where the tools are provided by the entity. I worked at a dealership in 2010. Health insurance at that time for me and 2 kids was $2000 per month. Service manager asked me was I going to sign up I said that’s a big hell no. I wouldn’t be able to eat.
That`s exactly what my nephew did! He went to work for a govt. utility district that provides electric power away from the lumber mill who trained him to be a master welder & mechanic. He told me he thought he had passed & gone to heaven with all the new tools, diagnostic equipment & welders as well as having A/C in shop!!
Mechanics get screwed having to provide so many tools. It's crazy. I was a union electrician, so minimal tool list I had to provide. Now I work for a utility, they provide literally everything my tools, meters, clothing, power tools, etc. I haven't bought a tool in a few years.
For a few years now I’ve gone to my local dealer for oil changes and other simple things. Pulled in there last week and saw a small group of zombies next to the building vaping and staring at their phones, and heard them saying “like” every other word when they would actually look up and talk to each other. The group then broke up and went into the garage area - they were service employees on break! Suffice it to say I started changing my own oil again among other small things…I can’t and won’t trust these clowns.
They pay them crap, so they do crap work, I bought a new rx330 in 2006, had them change the oil(complementary service) they delivered the car to my house. I checked under the car and it was leaking oil, they forgot to tighten the bolt. After that never again. I do my own oil and brake changes. I would only take the car to the "stealership" if I had no other choices available to me. I would rather spend $500 in tools, if can do the job myself. And not have the car serviced by these crooks.
Toyota lost their way. I am glad I am 68 and have a 2012 Camry with 101k miles and a 2016 Camry with only 56k miles. I will not need to ever buy another car

Went to local toyota dealership after a new car. I walked out depressed about how poor toyota had become with its selling environment. Management has gone down hill.
Had shoddy paint on my 2025 Camry, dealership tried to fix it. Now I was told today they have to replace the front due to an off placed sensor and the paint divots. The dealership has had my car more than I have at this point. Needless to say I am not a happy Toyota owner right now. Manu'd in KY BTW
Apparently the 2024 tacomas are having issues with their front struts blowing the rubber bump stops out of the top when the retainer cracks and falls apart.
One must never fire the last person who knows why certain technical parts are made the way that they are made, before he has conveyed his empirical knowledge to all of the new engineers in the company. I.e. new engineers want to make mechanical parts in a different, cheaper and less reliable manner, which often leads to new solution breaking down very fast in new cars. One example is the wet rubber belt that drives the oil pump in Ford's ecoboost engines. The rubber belt looses its "teeth", the oil pump stops, and the engine often gets completely destroyed. All this because a 5 $ part was not made properly, in the way it used to be made. Today car manufacturers are experimenting too much with new and stupid ideas, without properly testing the the new solutions at the plant. Instead the customers become guinea pigs, testing new and poorly constructed solutions.
My late Father left his 1981 Toyota Tercel (289k miles) to a friend in Portugal when he died . I have no doubt that old buggy is still chugging along .
I bought a 2024 Tacoma trd OF 4x4 auto trans and recently started experiencing transmission hesitation and gear searching. Took it to dealership 1, they said nothing is wrong, and there are no codes. I called corporate to open a case, and they sent me to dealership 2. Dealership 2 drained some transmission fluid and found metal shavings. I have a loaner now, and the service guy said expect to have the loaner for a month. The last Tacoma he replaced the transmission took a month to finish. Oh and the 2024 RAV4 loaner I have ALSO has transmission hesitation. It’s a circus 😂 My 2006 187k miles ford Ranger never had trans issues.
I still have my 2003 Highlander , (bought new) and drive the hell out of it everyday ! Now it has 407,000 hard miles, still runs perfect, and everything still works. That's why I bought a 2016 Sequoia, built like a tank, and will run forever.

The idea that customers like high tech is not what I'm hearing from friends and their friends. Many are buying refrigerators, washing machines, etc., without the computer chips; going back to all mechanical appliances. This is what the customer wants in a vehicle also, mechanical and not computer chips.
@the21program10 Yes. There is a known issue with cylinder 7 creaking an issue in the '16-19 gens. Stick to one '20 and after..should be good. My 9 sp trans is fine. It's a damn truck..nothing is ever perfect on any of them.
My brother is a mechanic and teaches junior college. He says don’t buy a new Trundra, the engines are failing completely and the don’t have replacements so you go on a waiting list for new engine and they won’t tell you when you can expect a new one so it just sits
I bought a 2023 Tacoma last August. Have had no problems yet. The dealership sent me a letter offering $2500 over the current “black book” price if I wanted to trade it in. Because people are begging for 3rd gen’s and they don’t want to deal with 4th gen. Issues.
No, it’s not quality control. Scott is right. The reason why older Toyota are reliable because they were kept simple vs Gm, Ford added fancy stuff and many things break.
Just purchased a Japanese made 4runner TRD Off Road. Glad I have one made in Japan. By the way, my 2017 F150 Synce module was malfuncting. The dealer was told about it 3 X. Finally when the screen would not come on, I drove it straight to the dealership and pulled the service manager out of his office to see it. He said they'd have to replace 3 different parts because they didn't know which one failed. A $1,500 warranty repair and zero out of pocket. So I know first hand your story is spot on Scotty.

I've had my 2020 Toyota Tacoma bought it in 2019 brand new off the lot, I haven't had one problem with it yet. So, it just depends on where it was put together I guess. All I know is that it was assembled somewhere in Texas.
Toyota and Honda have lost me as a customer with my last few cars with them. I'll stick with Subaru, Mazda, and SOME of the Nissans. No one is perfect but Toyota and Honda have lost it.
I have been driving 4runners for almost 30 years, problem-free. Good thing Scotty informed me that they all have problems. Otherwise, I would keep driving them. Now, I have to do something about it...
my 2023 F150 was bought back because the body control module failed and ford couldn't fix the issue, had complete computer failure. So i bought a new toyota.. and my transmission failed.. now i have a hyundai.. and it's been flawless.. some of the tech is annoying, but it all works..
@@nusiel I haven't had any burning oil issues, i change it every 3k miles, use a wix filter, and do it myself, so far it's been flawless in my 1.6t hybrid
People used to buy a Toyota because it was simple, good quality and reliable. Then people would pay a premium for that quality and reliability. Now a Toyota is too expensive, too complicated, poor quality and too unreliable.
I heard from someone high up in Toyota that dealerships are upset that the cars are so reliable that they only sell you a new car every 30 years so they can’t make money like many other car companies where you return every 7 or 8 years because the old car costs as much as a car payment to maintain.
That is not true my friend..here real true they had to put bad engines turbo s or there are told to be shot down by global garbage and politics people so basically toyota is bad now except hybryd models very good all other garbage very sad ..the only one good is honda pilot and ridgeline with old fashion 3.5 v6 natural engine..tnx
I was going to say the same thing...but what do I know I'm just one of those dealership dummies that can't fix cars...for 43 years with Toyota lol...this guy is a joke..
My next vehicle is going to be a 70s vehicle...very simple to work on and maintain. All the money I save on parts will greatly offset any miniscule loss in gas mileage.
@@gregorylyon1004 tell to him get it. Lots of room under the hood. I could sit on the wheel well under the raised hood and change the spark plugs. 300s were good engines. 👍🏻
Not really, just smart people would buy it and unfortunately average American is not. So, it won’t happen, cause most people want technology and comfort, something a regular and simple car couldn’t have.
Two words “Nissan Frontier”. Nuthin fancy just durability. Big Sales increases this year thanks to Toyotas travails. (But I still bought a Chevy Colorado)😁
Purchased a new 2024 Toyota fit and finish is horrible. Rattles, misaligned, body parts, hesitaition while driving, electrical issues. Toyota was once known for quality. Very displeased !
Hey, even an old toyota drives like garbage (can't compare to even a vw as far as driving and handling); the only reason I have a toyota is because of reliability and I'm a cheapass, but if I ever get money, I'll go German just for the pure pleasure.
I feel like buying a newer car is a risk in itself. Regardless of brand reputation, a newer iteration could have unforseen problems like the Tacoma mentioned here. Probably best to get a car that is a couple years old to at least have a track record of that specific model's performance and issues over a long term.
Era of disposable cars almost here !this is what they want , you buy a car, 3 years later you dispose and get a new one same as our phones , and other stuff
1:10 and just where are you going to get a full size half ton truck that is made in Japan. My 06 Tundra that was made in Indiana with an engine that was made in Huntsville, AL still runs great.

Two words “Nissan Frontier”. Nuthin fancy just durability. Big Sales increases this year thanks to Toyotas travails. (But I still bought a Chevy Colorado)😁
Indian TATA Deathtrap. Worlds cheapest mass produced.
@@laszloesterhazy1784 Cheapass and German don't go together, German and bend over do however!

Sitting here with my issue free Nissan Titan that everyone told me not to buy....i should go with the new Tundra.
Didnt age well. And i love my V8.
I have a 2020 Toyota Tundra @42,000 miles, it's still working good
Era of disposable cars almost here !this is what they want , you buy a car, 3 years later you dispose and get a new one same as our phones , and other stuff
Nah screw that I want a long lasting reliable vehicle toyota really stooped low.
Toyota fan bois can’t even defend them anymore at this point. This video seals the deal. Straight from the horses mouth.
1:10 and just where are you going to get a full size half ton truck that is made in Japan. My 06 Tundra that was made in Indiana with an engine that was made in Huntsville, AL still runs great.
Chevron's original name was Standard Oil of California. This is a huge deal that they even left Cali for Texas
Recalls are mindblowing too. I have a 2021 f 150
