TOP 10: 10) Frank Miller 9) David Mazzuccheli 8) Norm Breyfogle 7) Andy Kubert 6) Mike Paroback 5) Neal Adams 4) Dave McKean 3) Tim Sale 2) Jim Lee 1) Greg Capullo
David Finch has the most aggressive theme for Batman, Neal Adams had exceptional art and had the blue cowl going, Greg Capullos style is probably best for Batman, Jason fabok and the way he draws Batman Is probably the best and Jim Lee is the most iconic Batman drawer
You are the most accurate here. Except I'd was 2 with 3. 1. Lee 2. Capullo 3. Fabok 4. Tony S. Daniel 5. David Finch 6. Ed Benes 7. Frank Quitley 8. Michael Turner 9. Mark Silvestri 10. Andy Kubert Honorable mention: Mikel Janin
Lee is the most overrated artist in this list. I love how they use the fact that his art is identical to almost every other modern bat artist as a compliment,
@@charlieblecker350 what are u talking about jim lee created that style he is not overrated he is a legend hence why the most iconic batman art is his he is just one of the best ever no arguing i think u are just an odd hater
Breyfogle's style introduced me to Batman, this is the way I personally visualize the Caped Crusader. Those long organic lines were hypnotic in a time where thin computerized strokes defined the art style for most of the comic books of the time. Good list, we all have our favorites but its nice to see the stylistic conversions over time.
I have no problem wit this list. I would maybe consider Marshall Rogers, Jim Aparo and Tim Sale in place of Sprag. I also really consider Infintino more associated with the Flash. But all in all a pretty solid list.
Marshall Rogers, Tim Sale, David Finch should be in the Top 10. Jim Aparo and Don Newton should at least be mentioned for their great, long runs. Neal deserves to be #1.
Nice! I would have given the number one slot to Neal Adams simply because of the significance of his work's contribution to the Batman mythos. Norm Breyfogle? Well...
1-kane 2-mazzucchelli 3-neal adams 4-marshall rogers 5-kelley jones 6-tim sale 7- norm breyfoggle 8- jim lee 9-dick sprang 10- miller . Honorable mentions: Frankquitely&jock (batgrayson), walter risso, sam keith, andy kubert, tony daniel, michael lark, mignola, frazer irving, martinbrough, capullo, etc.
My picks (In no particular order) Bill Finger, Carmine Infantino, Neal Adams, Frank Miller,Joe Quesada (yes, THAT Joe Quesada), Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, and Greg Capullo.
Wow. No Jason Fabok or Finch or Ed Benes? Really? Being an artist myself, I'm a fan of details and proper human anatomy. Here's my list: 1. Lee 2. Capullo 3. Fabok 4. Tony S. Daniel 5. David Finch 6. Ed Benes 7. Frank Quitley 8. Michael Turner 9. Mark Silvestri 10. Andy Kubert Honorable mention: Mikel Janin
I like #10 the best. I watched that version of Batman growing up, it has my favorite version of the Batmobile, and that's what I picture when you talk about the character.
My top 10: 1. Brian Bolland 2. Jim Lee 3. Gary Frank 4. Greg Capullo 5. Tim Sale 6. Jim Aparo 7. Neal Adams 8. Norm Breyfogle 9. Frank Miller 10. Bob Kane
Jim Lee ? I remember my first comic was Jim Lee's one where Robin were all angry & hateful, the pictures were soo beautiful & dark (dont remember the name of that issue). Yeah That was my first Batman comic. I need to find that comic. After all it's still in my house.
"At that time in the '80s batman was still considered goofy and childish" Holy Guano! What a load of bullshit. Neal Adams (artist) and Denny O'Neil (writer) excised the childishness and goofiness in 1969. Miller turned the darkness, the violence, and the revenge fantasy elements up to eleven. But otherwise, no. Get your damned facts straight.
this is how cool Bruce Timm is, he had to steal art supplies from Tiny Toons in order to make a test reel of Batman after the Bat Duck episode was such a huge success. Everyone who has worked on Batman animated series has gone off to do amazing work including work as storyboard artist on Pixar. Darwyn Cooke was turned down from DC instead showed his Batman comic to Bruce Timm and worked on Batman, Superman and Batman Beyond.
Jim Aparo not on the list? I’ve been reading Batman and Detective Comics for 50 years and Jim Aparo should be in the top 3. Easily. All artist are very talented but Aparo Was top notch.
Everyone´s forgetting about Irv Novick, he was the one who gave Batman his definitive shape, he was a superb penciller and all the other artists who came after him based their drawings on his art, perhaps the best ever, it´s quite possible, the most influential, most definitely.
It seems the Bronze Age artist's were not represented at all except for Neal Adams. Obviously this is subjective, but No Jim Aparo!!! That's almost as bad as not counting Curt Swan as a Superman artist. If you're including David Mazzucchelli for only drawing one 4 issue arc, Bernie Wrightson's work on Swamp Thing #7 should qualify him as a Batman artist. Jose Luis Garcia Lopez, Gene Colan and Don Newton were all noteable on Batman, Detective Comics or the Brave and the Bold. I like Jim Lee, but as time went on his Batman Hulked out a little too much for me. I prefer Jim Lee's run on Punisher War Journal.
Why is bill finger not on this list? He made the character and designed his look without him none of these other artist would have anything go off of they are only refining his work.
Frank Miller wasn't an artist, he's a writer, the guy who mage Batman bulky and scary lookin was Klaus Jensen, he worked with Miller on the Dark Knight Returns as both artist and Colorist, he even worked with Grant Morrison on Batman Gothic in 1990. It was apart of DC's Legends of the Dark Knight Saga.
I agree with Jim Lee being #1 hush is by far the most beautiful looking batman series ever (frank millers batman : dark knight returns is in my opinion the overall best batman series/story ever dark gritty and we got to see batman own superman even though it's not cannon but an else ware story it's still enjoyable seeing batman kick the crap out of superman)
DC Comics' 1992 special edition Batman; Night Cries illustrated by Scott Hampton produced perhaps the darkest, most brooding Batman ever. Hampton's take on the character was unique.
It should be 1 David Finch (Dark knight/detective comics dc 52) 2 Greg Capullo ( batman court of owls, city of owls, death in the family, zero year graphic novels 1 and 2, dc 52).
I agree with Jim Lee being number 1, he's work on Superman and litteraly everything else is amazing. I also Really like David Finch and Tony S. Daniel.
Jim Aparo deserved a high ranking. The man is a legend
Hard to argue against Lee. However Capullo should've been higher.
Aye. Capullo!!!
I agree should have been in the top 5
Capullo > Jim Lee
***** Shots fired! :P
Indeed. My singular problem with Capullo's work is that the characters lips are to square. Other than that. Perfect. Should have been in the top 5.
I gotta go with #1 Jim Lee's Batman is the best one ever so sleek and stylish, Reminds me of Arkham Asylum batman
TOP 10:

No alex ross? Wtf
Tim sale?
yes, now that's an amazing artist worth putting in the top 10 batman artists.

Holy shit they left Tim Sale out of the list
David Finch has the most aggressive theme for Batman, Neal Adams had exceptional art and had the blue cowl going, Greg Capullos style is probably best for Batman, Jason fabok and the way he draws Batman Is probably the best and Jim Lee is the most iconic Batman drawer

Norm Breyfogle's art is a gift to any reader who is privileged to read any of his comics. His pen sings on the page.
He excels at emphasizing the gothic melodrama of the series. He can elevate even the crumbiest scripts.
Jim Aparo
Marshall Rogers
Garcia Lopez
Brian Bolland, Lee Bermejo
Alex Ross?
@@the_clone_ranger7730Bolland just did one novel. Haven't read Bermejo
@wildcat_savage96-33 he's a painter not a story teller.
Neal Adams had the best batman IMO
Lee is the most overrated artist in this list. I love how they use the fact that his art is identical to almost every other modern bat artist as a compliment,
Neil created the most talkative batman ever too remember, jeez his odessey comic is like reading a Tv Drama.

Those long organic lines were hypnotic in a time where thin computerized strokes defined the art style for most of the comic books of the time. Good list, we all have our favorites but its nice to see the stylistic conversions over time.
I think David finch needed to be on there. Not only for his unique touch and designs he was even the inspiration and mentor to Jason Fabok
1: Jim Aparo
2: Marshal Rogers
3:: Neil Adams.
I'm a personal fan of Tim sale's batman myself
I have no problem wit this list. I would maybe consider Marshall Rogers, Jim Aparo and Tim Sale in place of Sprag. I also really consider Infintino more associated with the Flash. But all in all a pretty solid list.
Instant thumb up for Finger in the beginning.
why not just put a finger up
No, man! Jim Lee may be of the greatest artist of modern era, but Neal Adams is a reference for everyone, including Jim Lee himself
75 years?! That's awesome :D
Such talented artists as well :)
Well...
Why am I the only one who likes Tim Sale's Batman? Or am I the only one who remembers the Long Halloween?

I'm glad you included Neal Adams in the list but did you really have to use pages from the Batman:Odyssey disaster? That was some of his worst work!
Tony Daniel, David Finch, Jason Fabok too :D
Capullo is like what Mcfarlane would have became if Mcfarlane kept drawing. He is like a more structured Mcfarlane.
"At that time in the '80s batman was still considered goofy and childish" Holy Guano! What a load of bullshit.
