- Jim Lee. Whether you know him from X-Men, Batman: Hush, The New 52, or as one of the founder's of Image Comics, it's impossible to not know his name as a comics fan. But, in this new series, I will tell the story of his career through just five of his works!
I saw this idea on Rummy's Corner, and wanted to adapt it to the comics industry. A lot of work went into this one, and I just hope it was worth it!

🐶WOOF WOOF! Here it is, the passion project that's been going on for a while now. Jim Lee's Top 5 Notable Works! The series inspired by Rummy's Corner, where I take a creator within the Comic Book Industry and chart the story of their career with just 5 of their books!
.
I tried my damned hardest with this. Finding interviews, researching comics, I even looked in an encyclopedia! I want to try and push myself to make bigger and better videos, because that should be at the forefront for any channel, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction!
.
I hope you all enjoy it. A thumbs up is greatly appreciated, along with subscribing if you're new! I would love Jim to see this, and crazier things have happened, so share this video far and wide and lets see what the Doggpound is capable of!

Some future ideas for top 5 could be bendis, chuck dixon, todd McFarlane, greg capullo, frank Miller, perez and of course youve got to do Alan Moore. That could take multiple videos you could do a whole video just about the watchmen controversy. Theres so much choice.
one for scott snyder please
@@stephentheshywarrior2759 Frank Miller was one I wanted to do for sure! Then I thought maybe a Rise And Fall video might be better suited, but I hope you will be happy to hear that Alan Moore is my planned next Top 5, and a Watchmen review in August :P
@@arnavpandey3823 Snyder is a great shout! Although I feel there's still gonna be another few big titles in his future, so maybe a bit further down the line :) Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF!
@@MaddoggComics are on Instagram. If yes then what's the user name?
Jim Lee having 9 kids was easily the most surprising thing in this video
Bros pull out game is weak 💀
Finally your passion project is finished. Jim lee is one of my favourite artists. Loving the content mate.
I slept very well last night after finishing this one mate haha! Can't lie, as much work and stress as this was, I loved doing it, and kinda making a video about the history of a creator, and hope I can do more in future! :) Thanks for giving it a watch Stephen, and for always supporting the channel! WOOF WOOF!
@@MaddoggComics it was a really good video. You can tell you put a lot of effort into it. My favourite bit was how you added all of the archival footage of jim lee into it. Id never seen some of those before. I think you slept well because you felt like you achieved something great and the pressure was off you. I love that feeling.
Of course, i like supporting your channel. You are one of my favourite youtubers.🙂
Jim's absolute best work is still X-Men.
I totally agree! The panel layout with splash pages was perfection with Jim Lee's influence.
it's gotta be Hush for me cuz it was my first comicbook that my mom bought for me.. so much nostalgia!! 🎉
Honest question, have you read it recently at all? I did and found it shockingly bad
Dude, if Hush was your true intro to Jim Lee? You've really got some reading to do. His work on X-Men & WILDCATS, THAT was his best work. Hush was great, yes, but not his best. Still, this was a great video on my favorite artist. Great job bro!
Mine was all star
Honest question, have you read wildcats recently at all? Even at the time I didn't think wildcats was that great, and I feel like it's aged even worse.
His work on Superman For Tomorrow is unmatched.
Not only does this act as a top 5 list but a Mini history lesson as well. Fantastic video 👏👏
Always use OPB. Fantastic video. Mark Silvestri would be dope and I was actually in the process of tagging Jim Lee on IG and Twitter
Got a box from them being delivered today haha! Silvestri is a great suggestion and definitely one for the future, but I think Alan Moore may be the next one! Thanks for tagging Jim Lee in it and for watching the video! WOOF WOOF!
Can’t wait for more of these! This was great !
Thank you David, I really put a lot into this one, so I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hoping to cover Alan Moore next! WOOF WOOF!
AMAZING JIM
He's one of the best! 🐶
@@MaddoggComics I started a comic book
“SPACE FORCE DIVISION”
my dream is to work with JIM😄
Great job, MadDogg! Really enjoyed this video. Can’t wait for more.
Thank you Kevin! I put a lot into this one, so I'm just glad it was enjoyable! Hoping to do Alan Moore next! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF!
Thank you for this! As a kid XMen #1 got me into comics and drawing! I followed Jim Lee through Image & WildStorm. But as I got older in High School I fell out of comics. I always wondered why he went to DC. Thanks for covering my favorite Comic Book artist of all time!!! I wonder if there is a J Scott Campbell synopsis....
Thank you for the kind words! This series is a proper passion project, so I'm glad it's enjoyable :) Hopefully I'll get chance to do more in the future! 🐶
Jim Lee is the Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth of comic book artist. Jim Lee is the greatest illustrator of all time. Thank you so much Jim Lee. You are the man.
Hey Marcus, this was great! I love your usual videos on new stuff, whale watch, etc, but I also love geeking out on comic history. So a triple WOOF WOOF WOOF for you on this one, mate! I really enjoy Jim Lee, even though I find the “90s Style” of art a bit too over-the-top most of the time (*ahem* McFarlane) I think Jim Lee manages a great balance of highly stylized but yet still moderately realistic art for action-based comics. Hush is an amazing work, and I am looking forward to the JL New 52 omni coming out soon. Keep up these videos (as long as you don’t kill yourself making them)! Cheers.
Thank you Paul! Just glad the work paid off, a lot of research went into this, and I've got some great plans in future, like a Stan Lee: Complete Career Recap video! Can't lie, it won't be for a while, as this took a lot out of me haha! But I appreciate the support and hope you manage to get your hands on a copy of Justice League Omnibus! WOOF WOOF!
As a comic book collector, would be great if each great artists created their own covers, for any company. Still would like to see new artwork for Jim Lee X-Men. He laid the fashion on most of the X-Men 97'
Very cool concept! Love that you're always thinking outside the box! Would love to see this for some of the most prolific writers like Waid, Morrison, Busiek, Hickman who just have such a large body of work that it's difficult to choose what's worth it for readers and why it was important in their career.
This was awesome! Great work! 🤘🏻
Thank you Kenny! Just glad the work paid off and you enjoyed it! Hoping to cover Alan Moore next! WOOF WOOF!
Great video Maddogg!! I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into that and it paid off. Looking forward to the next one! WOOF WOOF
Oh man, you only gone and made an excellent piece of work, Marcus. I learned so much. Great video, dude.
Great video Marcus, looking forward to more of these ^^
Cheers mate! Just glad it was enjoyable! Definitely more in the future, but they are a bit time consuming so maybe one every other month :) Alan Moore will probably be next! Thanks for watching the video, mate! WOOF WOOF!
Hush was my first childhood comic that my mom bought for me.. I have been a Jim Lee fan ever since
Your mum has good taste! Hush was definitely an experience for my first Jim Lee book, glad we had the same experience! 😂🐶
@@MaddoggComics yeah, thank you haha I would wait for her every day returning from work with a comicbook or a GIJoe in her bag, her favorite was Conan the Barbarian..
I am extremely thankful that you brought back that fleeting childhood memory of mine back!! Bless you 👉🏻👈🏻😃🔥🎉
Mark Waid or Scott Snyder notable works would be awesome! 2 of my favorite writers for sure!
I met Jim lee he loved my energy so much he took a picture of me I got his autograph on a comic book he didn't even drew lol I was like 11 years old at the time
Really enjoyed this bite size bio. It’s perfect for what it’s trying to do.
What we're not going to talk about his Fantastic 4 work? haha
Thanks for teaching and entertaining me while I worked out on the elliptical machine! 😁 I think this is a quality video with lots of great edits and inserts of your own personality, which makes it more enjoyable. Definitely great job and a wonderful idea for a series of more videos. Woof woof!! 🐕🦺🐩🐕🐶
BROOOOOO this video was so phenomenally done !! Jim Lee is a living legend and forever one of my favorite artists ! Well done Marcus ! You Lowkey make me wanna buy more art from him haha.
I love the Jim Lee justice league designs
This was awesome! Very well done man.
Thank you mate, I love your initials too haha! Hoping to cover Alan Moore next! WOOF WOOF!
I hope his next creative stage will be returning to work on his Image characters/universe again becuase I loved the WildC.A.T.S. and i wish there was an anaimation series for Storm-Watch as I like that idea more!!!
Excellent idea for a video and a great list. I submit for your approval Peter David
Damn, Peter David would be an interesting one! That's definitely going on the list! I was thinking maybe Alan Moore next, but we shall see! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF!
Penciler/illustrators almost never get the credit for their contributions in comics. Jim is one of the few who gets proper respect for his work. I have followed his work since the early 90’s and was there for the hight of Jim Lee mania. His talent is so incredible it will often overshadow the quality of the writing. I know we don’t talk about All-Star Batman, but for me, that was some of my favorite Batman art from Jim even though the writing was…problematic. I loved his design on Batgirl from that series so much I had to track down the figure. Hush Jason Todd was another design I loved, but sadly it was the only figure I wanted that I missed out on. Jim, Whilce, Marc, and even Liefeld (to a degree) were legends of that era. They all deserve every single bit of praise they’ve ever received👍🏼
Pencillers never get credit?? I'd say they get WAY more credit than the writers, in general.
Great video mate and I think you nailed the 5 works you chose.
Cheers Andy! It was fun to make, kinda like a history/top 5 list, so hopefully more to come! Thanks for giving it a watch mate! WOOF WOOF!
I’d totally love to see you do something with Power Rangers. That way we can get a video about you. ;) cheekiness aside great work. I admire Jim Lee. He’s the kind of artist whose work really captivated me as a kid with x men and still does today.
I'd love a reason to do more Power Rangers videos haha! I did a Where To Start on them, but it didn't seem to resonate :/ Thanks for watching the video, Neil! WOOF WOOF!
Great Video Maddogg! Can’t wait for the next one. Also loved the Deontay Wilder bit 👍🏻
This was an incredibly interesting video man! You picked a great first subject with Jim Lee... So many things in this video I would never have known about the history and behind-the-scenes stuff! Thanks for taking the time to research into all this. I know how hard you worked on it!
And just looking at snippets of Hush is making me want to pull the absolute edition off my shelf and dive into it!
I have the absolute hush and it is gorgeous. Love the slipcase cover.story is good but the art makes it shine imo.
@@stephentheshywarrior2759 oh for sure, it's probably one of the best things to own in absolute format. You're right that the art really shines, and especially so at absolute size. I'm very happy to have my absolute Hush! I'm glad you also are able to enjoy it in that format 😄
Thank you mate, and just for the support whilst I was making this one! It was actually quite fun to do the research side of it, and surprised myself with some of the stuff I never knew haha! Hush is probably one of my most looked at books! :)
Really great work on this one Marcus, cant wait to see who you'll do next 😁👍
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed it! I'm thinking Alan Moore next, but we shall see! WOOF WOOF!
TIL THIS DAY ! I also love rummy’s corner, you have good taste sir
Great concept for a series. You should look at doing this for Roy Thomas, Neal Adams, Darwyn Cooke, Bendis, Brubaker (maybe specifically with Sean Philips?), and obvious Jack Kirby.
Deathblow is a great book to look at if you're a student/fan of his art. He really pushes the boundaries with that book.
Woof woof! One name that does come to mind is a writer: John Wagner. Or an artist: Steve Dillon
This might be my fav video yet. Maybe Todd Mcfarlane should be done next!!
Cheers Ashley! I really wanted this one to deliver! McFarlane was my original idea haha, so he's definitely on the list! But I might do Alan Moore for the next one! Thanks for giving it a watch mate! WOOF WOOF!
I can tell you put work into this one and I really enjoyed it something different and was cool taking a look at his work Hush to me his Lee at A game and I’m yet to read war journal but I have the trade on my shelf.
I also wish this was the how I met your mother video...how do I find that?
I need one of these for Garth Ennis 😁stay safe
I hated claremont leaving writing duties for X-men but Jim Lee art was 🤯 to me at the time. I don’t think it’s his best work but at that time I don’t think any of the other image artist was fucking with Jim Lee. Loved all them image artist but Lee was it for me.
I approve this Top 5 list!
Thank you mate, and for the support whilst making this one! WOOF WOOF!
Awesome job, man! For the next one, please consider Mark Bagley.
I 2nd this!!!
Bagley is a great shout, but you know me, it would end up being 3 hours of me just talking about Ultimate Spider-Man haha! Definitely one for the future, but I was thinking maybe Alan Moore next so I can get the hang of the format, but I'm just glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching! WOOF WOOF!
Now I'm getting more tempted to do it haha!
@@MaddoggComics Im in for listening to 3 hours of ultimate Spiderman lol! Do it! Hahahah!!!
I hope I’m not the only person, who enjoyed this.
Although All Star Batman was horrible, Jim Lees art was very great in that one too.
I think Greg Capullo, Todd McFarlane and Darwyn Cooke would be great choice for the next one.
And if you feel like it you could also do writers:)
Great video and keep going
I hope you aren't either haha! Glad you did enjoy it though, really wanted this one to stick the landing! Darwyn Cooke is a great shout, but I was thinking maybe Alan Moore next! Can't see this series being a monthly just with the work that goes into it, but definitely not the last! :) Thanks for giving it a watch mate! WOOF WOOF!
Love this video, it would be great to do this for some of the smaller artist as well
Loved this, cheers.
I dig Rummy's Corner too!
Great video mate. Nice edit
Jim Lee IS modern comics. Singular, a technical genius, and an obviously passionate and committed artist. He isn’t entirely to my taste, I am more left field (Sienkiewicz is probably my fave) but any young penciller who doesn’t have a copy of Hush Unwrapped, and isn’t copying the shit out of this masterpiece just isn’t going to be up to snuff, no matter what stylistic direction they mature into.
Whoa...😮...he kinda became like He-Man...🤘🏼💯✔️
all of jim lee's marvel was hot 🔥
Hey awesome video, I love this series. Would hope you could get around to doing a chris claremont spotlight sometime, cheers!
Claremont is a really good suggestion! I think I'd add the rule I can only do 2 X-Men stories though haha! Alan Moore was my next idea, but we shall see! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF!
@@MaddoggComics ah fair enough, Alan Moore is a legend will be looking forward to it 😎
Great video my man I subbed !
Thank you Anton! I plan to do more videos like this and I'm working on a few scripts now, so I hope you enjoy! WOOF WOOF!
I really liked this video but Do Marc Silvestri next 👌✨
awesome video !!
rummysss cornerrr!!!
Good job, enjoy the video. Do Arthur Adams!!!!!!
Awesome
I'm your one person who enjoyed this video.
Where did you get all those background videos and photos!
7:14 Surely you mean at "He began working with colorist Joe Chiodo". He worked with Chiodo for years before Sinclair.
Hello Maddog, if you mind where did you find the piece from 8:51
Hey Flash! It was from the story Jim Lee did in the Batman Black And White Omnibus :) I can't remember the name of the original series though, hope this helps! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
thank you
As Hancock would say Good job
X-Men and Hush the best work
need a Joe mad one [[:
Rob Liefeld’s top 5 comics?
i did!
Dang dude... medical doctors sign "PRESCRIPTIONS"
Punisher X-men wildcats deathblow Batman.
Wow, you were not born when X-Men vol 2 no 1… my comics are older than you…. 😂😂😂.
Credit to you for doing the research on this ancient history. It would be like me researching Jack Kirby or Neal Adams.
Definitely Punisher War Journal was when his art took form with Carl Potts beautifully inking his pencil. Teaming up with Scott Williams is probably the best thing to happen to him artistically.
Sadly, most of the stories were not as memorable as his art. Some of his Uncanny X-Men books with Chris Claremont are probably the closest to one two punch. He doesn’t have something like Alex Ross with Marvels or Kingdom Come where the whole package is an instant classic even if issue 1 of X-Men is still the number one selling comic; the story is forgetful.
top5???? no man top the one!!!!! bised of kirby, Steranko, buscema, byrne, Bernie W. SILVESTRI, AND CIA.
This guys always going "lol idk if I'm saying this name right 😜" as if he couldn't just take 2 seconds and LOOK IT UP
You lost me at the support for for the new 52
The split to image was not a good move for any of these artist. People have too big egos and it ruins them. Some people dont understand their lane properly. You are an artist not a business owner. Two different skills
Seems like these artist thought they could create a business from the ground up and also work in that same business as the employee at the same time. I feel like they over step a little too much here. Should have stayed with marvel and continued these awesome pieces of work.
Imagine how or where X-men would be today if they did that.
Great video though personally while I quite like his art, Jim Lee’s storytelling at times can be pretty terrible.
Agree to disagree haha, still appreciate you checking it out Simon! Will probs look at a writer next time, maybe Alan Moore! Glad you enjoyed it though!
Personally I enjoy Jim Lee's Image works like Gen13-Wildcats, Divine Right and Deathblow. I honestly can't really say much for his X-men run cause I Don't read X-men or like X-men.
With how you spoke about this one, it's done now. So please. Leave UA-cam.
Are you gonna cry this much when I pass your sub count too?
I totally agree. I first saw X- Men # 5 cover and immediately started getting everything I could find of his. And he is still the best I have ever seen. and I got to say I have met him several times and he really is a nice guy. 🫵😃👍
