I know it’s been years since you made this video. But I’m SOOOO thankful I found it! Todays first time soap making and afterwards I was thinking “oh no! How do I clean this stuff”. Thank You for sharing
Thank you Elly, many soap videos don't even show this, this is most helpful for I am a beginner,I was really hoping someone will finally show this, good on you Elly for being the first
Thank you Angela, I thought the same thing! This trick was a breakthrough for me when I discovered it. Makes it so much easier. Happy soaping :)
I agree, as a beginner I think it is important to know what you should and shouldn't be doing from someone with experience. Thank you so much for sharing!
Another option is to use a a very clean towel, tea towel size, or one of your choosing based on the amount of things to clean up. Either wet or dry, and using a small section of the towel, wipe out, off, as much as you can, per item. Move to a clean section of the towel and continue to each piece. You can set the dishes and utensils etc aside to Rinse as this video suggested, but if you need your items sooner, wiping them with a towel makes the cleanup sooner. Keep the towel for the same amount of soap curation you would normally. Pin a note or keep it, stored safely near your curing Soap. When it's ready, throw it in the washer to wash towels or other household items. Depending on your recipe this might not be suitable for your clothes, because of Super fats etc that could stain clothes. But for other things that wouldn't be an issue, it's a way to save on washing powder etc. Thanks for sharing this.
@@emerencespringer Great idea, I thought to wipe my stick blender off but I like your idea of wiping everything down. I need to know what to do with the container I mixed my lye solution in and the one that had the dry caustic soda, do I rinse them at the same time in the sink? Will they hurt my pipes?
@@marymcandrew7667 ... If your talking about the container that you had the dry lye and it's now empty, and the container that you mix the lye and your liquid?. If that's what you mean, yes, safely Rinse those immediately, and it "shouldn't" affect your pipes, I say shouldn't because I don't know what type of pipes or plumbing system you have. Technically, lye is mainly used in drain cleaner and in those oven cleaner spray cans. The towel idea isn't mine, I'm just sharing it. Another one is to have a designated container just for lye. One to measure and One to Mix. Rinse right away, just in case. Hope you have a great day.
I can’t thank you enough!!!!!!!!!! I was very worried about this!!!!!!!
:) You're welcome!
Duh to me...that makes so much sense, I was so worried about the clean up, its soap right! Thank you for sharing this, might seam like a given but some of us beginners don't know.
Exactly. It was a revelation when I first thought of it! Thanks :)
Genius 🎉. I stayed up late last night making soap and I was not looking forward to wasting 1/2 a roll of paper towel wiping down everything I used. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Very thoughtful of you Elly, to share this washing up method! I would not have thought of that! BIG Thanks :-)
You are most welcome. It was a revelation to me! :)
What a great suggestion. The first time I cleaned up I felt a sting on my forearm and I knew that a bit of lye had touched my skin. I started using gloves...but this is an even better idea!
Thank you Dolly - glad you found it helpful. It's the little tricks that make all the difference :)
Dolly Perry Always use gloves for every part of soap making. Best to be careful.
But I always clean up the lye container right away, with kids and pets around don't want anyone to touch them by mistake.
My thumb hurt for two days because I cleaned up right away I suspected lye. And everything had a super slick slippery feel leaving me concerned things really weren’t clean
Thank you Elly. I'been making soap for years and wathing everything was a punishment for pleasure.
What a great idea!! Thankyou Elly!!
What an excellent tip, thank you!
Thanks for this tip! It's a life saver
This is perfect! I’ve been asking this question. Now I think I understand enough to make my first batch of soap! Thanks
Wow! Thank you for that tip!
Thanks
This is exactly what I needed! I just made my first batch of soap and I tried cleaning up right away and what a caustic oily disaster I made!
After using probably half a bottle of dish soap trying to dissolve the oils and soap batter, I was turned off and cleaning up is the main reason why I don't soap more! This trick change my life!!!
Yay!! And if you scrape out as much soap batter as possible from your containers, it's even easier!
Just what I needed to know! Thank you Elly
Many thanks for this tip! Most helpful for me as a beginner. Have a great day.
It works great. Thx for the amazing tip

Thank you sooo much for making your channel!! I've wanted to make soap for years! And stumbled across your videos by accident.. I love that you teach us to do it ourselves!! I also love that you're fellow Aussie!! 🥰 I'm FNQ.. So very humid up here, I love that you show us all the behind the scenes!
You've made my dreams possible! I'm so thankful I found your channel!! Xx
Oh, thank you so much! That's so wonderful to hear. I bet you enjoyed the soap storage video with all the tips for humid climates! I lived in Cairns for a while when I was younger, I loved it up there, and I know what you're talking about with the humidity! Thanks again. Please share my videos with others if you feel inclined, every bit of support helps me to keep going and making more videos :)
Must get back into soap making. Thanks
You're welcome. Happy to inspire :)
Thank you thank you for this. No one talks about this part and I didn’t want to try making soap until I knew how to do the clean up.
You're welcome Angie, thank you :)
That was very very helpful
Thank you so much for this. You are a life saver. More power to you. With love from the Philippines xo
Thank you for sharing. I was wondering about the cleaning process. I know you mentioned it in an earlier video but it's nice to see what you do.
Hi...So thoughtful of you for showing this tip...When I made my first batch...there was much left over in my cups ..so I soaked it like you did. And used that soapy water for washing clothes..My laundry came out with extra fragrance
Perfect. You're very welcome :)
This is a great channel thank you for all the tips.
Thank you Judy, I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks, I was just wondering about this when watching your soap making video.
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Very useful video. Bravo
Thank you.
HO MY GOSH! I NEVER KNEW THIS! WHAT A WONDERFUL TIP! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Haha! That's great! Glad I could help Richard :)
Great video thank you.
You're welcome, thanks.
I guess by me being lazy I have been doing things correctly!
Haha, yes!
Hahahha... that's awesome and funny at the same time!!!
Thank you! I just made my first CP Soap and was trying to decide how I'd clean up.
You're welcome! Good timing then ;)
Thanks for that I had no idea what was the safest to do and that totally makes sense although I just made my first batch of cold process soap and I cleaned up straight away. I found mica the worst to clean up.
You're welcome, yes, some colourants are hard to clean up. I think that's why I go for plain/light coloured soaps! :)
Great information esp. for novice soap makers. I sure wish I had as few thins as you do to wash up after I make soap!
Thank you - I like to keep it simple for the most part :)
Thank you, that was some thing I was struggling alway after the process. Silicone molds are concern, I alway put it with laundry in the machine with less washing soultion. It washes the laundry, while it comes clean and nice.
That's a great idea - I never thought to add the silicone moulds to the washing. I don't have much soap, if any, left on my moulds to be honest, so I just give them a quick rinse.
I didn’t know what to do with my dishes it was a mess, thank you very much for this
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for that video. I was going to put away from my cooking utensils. But if I just have to clean it. I will most likely keep my plastic items for soap since I have so many silicone molds and plastic measuring cups. But it is nice to know I can can use my stainless steel and stick blender and stainless spoons for cooking. Thank you again.
You're welcome :)
As I was watching the first beginner video I was thinking to my self "what about the clean up?, I wonder if this will damage my plumbing?"... so this was perfect! Thank you, your videos are the best!
Thank you, glad it was helpful! :)
It's the best and easiest method to wash the utensil. I don't know really but u taught something new everytime this is the reason Im always waiting for ur videos and watching it and taking notes and learning from you mam. Thank you mam🤗💯
Thanks so much Kajol, I'm so pleased you're finding my channel useful.
This is ingenious
Thank you :)
Thank you Elly for this video. When I make soap I fear that something has gone wrong because the containers and tools feel greasy. I will follow your advice! I usually wash the dishes right away and use extra soap and hot water. Nobody else talks about this! Thank you!😊
Leaving them a few days changes everything!
This is sooo helpful. I haven't tried soap making yet because I wasn't sure of how to do the clean up.... lol!! Thanks for sharing friend
You're welcome! Thank you :)
I appreciate this 👍
You're welcome, thank you.
Thank you Elly, I just made my first batch of soap and I rinsed my equipment outside the house on the grass, because like you said it will clog up in the sink. Your tip is really a common sense but sometimes common sense doesn't works for every body (just like me) hahaha. thank you for the helpful tips.
You're welcome. That makes sense :)
I wanted to say thanks for the video! I am preparing for CP making and wasn't sure how to clean...so thanks so much! 😁😁😊😊😊
You're welcome!
Thank you I had no idea how to clean up afterwards
You're welcome.
Thank you so much for this! I was wondering how to clean up. Now I won't have to gift wrap it and leave it on the front door step for unsuspecting thieves! :) Seriously, though now I feel I am ready to make soap. Your videos are the Best!
Thank you Anna, I'm glad you liked it! You're welcome :)
As a beginner I was wondering how you deal with cleaning all the utensils and buckets used for soap making. Thanks for making this video! I'll be watching many more of your videos.
Thank you!
This is a good tip! I wish I would have known this when I first started out. I've subbed to your channel and I'm enjoying your videos
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying them :)
Great information because most people would be impatient and wash right away but to me this is the smartest way 😎 Thank you! Also white vinegar will neutralize costic we used distilled white vinegar where I use to work so in theory you should be able to stick anything with lye on it in some white vinegar after using it to make it safer or if it got on your skin. Do your own research not an expert 😁
Thanks for sharing this great tip. I just made my very first batch of soap, and I was wandering how I would go about cleaning the soap batter😅
Tnks
You're welcome :)
Thank you. :)
You're welcome :)
Just what I was looking for. Please ignore my earlier content suggestion to create a video to explain this -- you already have and I had not yet found it. Great suggestion.
Now working to clear clogged kitchen sink drains following two days of soap making and cleaning pans, jars, utensil’s immediately after soaping.
Hi elly!!! I love love love your soap making videos, you’ve taught me so much I’m so excited to start my own soap journey. Where would I be able to find those plastic containers with the measuring?! I want to make sure I get the appropriate materials for mixing the lye water… not sure which materials are heat resistant enough. Thanks again 😊
This article explains www.ellyseveryday.com/the-what-and-how-of-soap-making
Thank you Elly! I just made my first batch of soap and thought what do I do now? I have this big mess, how do I clean it? Your video was great, thank you for posting it.
Thank you Monique, I'm glad you found it helpful! That was good timing :)
I found out first hand not to put the soap dishes, utensils, etc in the dishwasher. Don't know why I did it as I know better. Anyway,I had lots of suds and had to run the rinse cycle about 5x to clear it out. Won't do that again.
Oh dear! Well your dishwasher would smell really nice I'm sure.
First attempt at soap - so went very simple and followed your Olive Oil / Castile soap recipe / instructions. Only question I had was 'what about cleanup?' .. a quick google and I had this video pop up! Bases covered!❤😂
Awesome! I've covered a lot in over 100 videos now!
I do my dishes this way☺️
😊
I should have looked this up before making my first soap...the clean up was SOOOO frustrating because of the oil. It was a huge mess.
Will be doing this next go around
Use some isopropyl alcohol on a rag to easily wipe off any residual oiliness. It works perfectly & dries very quickly because it evaporates far faster than water.
I only made soap once and i did the same thing 😊
Thank you! I tried making soap for the first time yesterday and I thought it feels so oily I must have failed making soap!
Ah no, it just needs some time :)
Thank you Elly, this is exactly what I needed to know, just made my first ever batch of soap! But I need to know what to do with the container I mixed my lye solution in and the one that had the dry caustic soda, do I rinse them at the same time in the sink? Will they hurt my pipes?
No it wont hurt your pipes, just rinse with water.
Thank you for sharing this very helpful tips Elly. Since it turns to soap after leaving the containers and utensils for a few days, I guess it's safe to use the soap water in the bucket to wash dishes that we use for foods at the same time too, correct?
Yes, absolutely!
Thank you, I’m new to soap making and even though this is so simple, I needed someone to point it out because I would have over complicated it 😂
I scrape the dry, hard bits for a soap ball. There will still be enough soap on the items to clean up.
I haven't made my first batch of soap yet. I'm in the research phase - looking forward to making a batch, hopefully in the next couple weeks - but I wanted to say Thank You! For this Awesome tip =D
A question: do you use the same stick blender, spatula's etc., for household cooking? Do I have to have a soap dedicated stick blender? Or is it safe to use the one I already have for cooking?
The test strips aren't super accurate. Have you tried the zap test?Your soap might be perfectly fine ua-cam.com/video/SS14Gsl4gKQ/v-deo.html
Thank you 😊 so much...I'm learning tips....I'm new also...in this beautiful soap..world 🌎 🥰🥰🥰😍😍congrats 👏 nice videos....
Thanks Tico, and welcome! I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos and finding them helpful :)
Thank you so much for this video. I have not started the soap making as of yet, I hope to move to my new home first, then begin. Thank you for explaining a few things to us. I wanted to give you a Howdy from Texas!
I do have several questions, when you are making soap do you need to disinfect your utensils prior to making the soap?
Most of the U.S. soaper's do, I believe they use alcohol.
Also, do you have a recipe book or book on how to make soap available for purchase?
Howdy! Nice to hear from you in Texas, hope you're keeping well over there. No you don't need to disinfect your utensils, as long as they are clean they're fine as they are. I don't have a recipe book, but I will be working on some guides I'll be publishing on Amazon later in the year. I'll let everyone know when the time comes :)
