    🌿Citric acid information:
    When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
    A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
    These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
    A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
    Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
    How much citric acid should be added to soap?
    Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
    How to use citric acid
    Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

    This happened to me once when I made cold process aloe vera soap. I also grated it up (took forever) and put it In my slow cooker to do as you did. I added some yogurt so I could mix it well, then (as you did) jammed it in to the mold and pressed it down like crazy. When I cut it (like yours, was uneven in texture) so I called it my rustic soap. I gave some bars to my family and fiends and they absolutely loved it. It actually became a favourite for my own personal use as it lathered up so well and was creamy and conditioning. I have deliberately made hot process soap once since then, with better results but the method is too time consuming for me, and the mixing too difficult for my dodgy hands! 🐾🥰 Great video!

    Oh dear I know exactly how you must have felt, I wish I had a coin for the many times I have been along that road! From the beginning I wondered what secret you had to keep the rose colour as its very dependant on pH therefore the alkaline condition of soap will ruin the fragile colour of true rose. The lather looked lovely and creamy and i am sure the aroma was beautiful, we live and learn. Thank you for being brave and sharing with us.

    Great video and such calming music! If you want to have St.John's wort oil available all year round (without having to wait for a whole week each time),you can put the collected flowers in a glass jar, fill it up with olive oil and leave it in the sun for about 30-40 days.

St Johns wart is so good for depression and rose is so good too. Even though it wasn't pretty, the benefits are amazing from both flowers. Its what's inside that counts the most! well done girly! Can you please tell me. How to incubate soap for 30 days without losing the aroma of essential oils? I make soap with natural essential oils and it's good, but somehow the scent wears off very quickly. Thank you very much, have a nice day.

    • @tellervo.
      @tellervo.  Рік тому +4

      Some essential oils tend to fade quickly, it's best to stay away from lemon and orange essential oils except the folded versions. Using several essential oils and including middle and base notes in the blend can also help. Another thing that can help the scent last longer is mixing the essential oils with some clay to anchor it.

    The rose water batch really turned into a peculiar color and it accelerated seemingly fast. I thought maybe you'd turn it into a hot processed batch. Either way, that clay disbursed in oil turned it into a pretty rose color. Too bad the rose petals couldn't have done that.

    Hi everyone, what happens if we add citric acid solution at trace, will it adjust the pH of the soap, since it's not added to lye? Has anyone tried ph balancing soap? I tried making a hot process soap and added too much acv and citric acid solution trying to adjust and balance the pH of the bar soap. I think the homemade acv lowered the pH of the soap bar which is now between 7-8. I think the citric acid solution didn't do anything so I gave up after my batter started to cool down. I ended up rebatching the soap because it was too watery, now its overcooked, but at least it is in the mould and hardening.
