How to build a garden room base using the rod system

  • Ok, so I've re edited this as Im aware that using a chain saw is dangerous.
All the team are fully aware and are under strict guidance to stay well out of the arc of the saw in case its kicks.
Im the only one allowed to use the saw.
Now we have Ronnies bar (awesome bit of kit) we will no doubt go down the road of using a Forstner bit to sink the nuts and all but eliminate the chain saw except for end cuts.
    Sorry if I offended anyone.

Super informative Liam. My own brain runs at 100mph, so I'm loving yer pace, and the frenetic nature of trying to explain everything to everyone all at once! Pure brilliant mate! Absolute brilliant! Keep it up!
Given the evolution of how you now do things, would you consider doing a sit down video, going through cut lists, materials list, job lists etc, or give Jen the glory if its not your bag? Robin Clevit does it really well with Skill builder?
Your anecdotes are brilliant. My brother did the same with the compressor route, built an unbelievable garage!
Keep up the brilliant work 👏 👍

I built my room more or less following your videos all the way. Really thankful for the tips but the joist hangers and twist nails raise the deck such that the final floor is not level enough for click vynal. You over engineer, which is not a bad thing, but here it raises (literally) other problems. But, small price to pay for all the other great tips and solutions.

I'm thinking to drill the floor joists first and use that to align the rods whilst they're setting in the concrete..... seems like a reasonable plan instead of using string line to line up the rods, and then marking the joists afterwards and removing potential for error. The timber would keep the rods vertical too.
Is there anything obvious I'm overlooking by attempting on doing it this way?

Hello Mr. Guru, I have only just started watching your channel recently, as I am helping my brother build a garden room, we have done the frame work, and put up the roofing joists yesterday. I was wondering if you had any tips that would help, when it comes to putting the doors and windows in, and when putting the rubber roof on, i noticed the broom you use looks like a soft head, has got to be, or will a stiff head be ok. many thanks for any advice in advance, I have learned a lot from your videos, so thank you. I will definately watch your videos more, when it comes to doing my own. thanks again sir.

Once you've got all the insulation and expanding foam in, do you think running over all the top of the joists with Aluminum Foil tape and sealing it to the top of the insulation would add an extra layer of protection? or is it overkill? Great work by the way as always.
