I remember helping my Dad build a garage and workshop in the early 1960's (I was 14) - one long side ( about 40ft) was brick built (the other three sides timber and T&G western red cedar) I learnt some very handy bricklaying skills which came in very handy when I was married. My Uncle Ron was a professional bricklayer (he helped) and it was amazing to watch him slap the courses down at the speed of light! Those were the days…..
Good job Matt. I was a landscape gardener many moons ago and if you lay those turfs grass side down and make a heap in a couple of years they will break down and produce really excellent seed compost!
I used one of those bases for my shed 2 years ago. Super easy to install and has been perfect. Much easier than slabs or concrete, cheaper and can be reused somewhere else in the future. Looking forward to the next one Matt!
Hi sir did you level the plastic base by lifting it to allow the gravel to fall underneath as you go round with a sprite level . Or did you rely on the sub frame by using wedges to get it perfectly level ? . Best wishes and kind regards 😀👍👍👍
I used those plastic grids for my shed too. Although I already had an existing concrete base, I wanted to lift it up off it to help stop any damp. They worked out great, and filling them with shingles gives a nice neat look too in my opinion
A very interesting introduction to the build and an interesting way of laying the foundation. Can you please tell us: "how flat and level is the base?" On the video it does not look that flat, somewhat undulating... Also, "How is the underside of the OSB floor protected from moisture?" I am looking forward to the rest of the build.
I know its a bit late now but Gosforth Handyman has a vid on turf lifting. Used the grids for a couple of shed bases. Its a manageable way of doing bases single-handed and avoids the need to mix loads of concrete or lift heavy utility slabs.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the project matt! I think your pieces to camera could be even better if you drop the word "so" when you are starting off.
I like the concept of that base, never seen that before. Thanks Not sure if you did this or not but laying a "BURIED CABLE" warning tape in the trench would have been good practice and might be required by UK standards.
I recently laid a (much smaller) base of the same type - did you have problems levelling it off? we found when we started filling with pea gravel then the plastic grid started shifting - eventually the gravel seemed to level out but it was a couple more bags than anticipated!
Hi I will be installing the ecobase 15ft x 10ft and i wanted to know how it held up with the weight of your garden room and if there has been any movement? Thanks
What a good lad ! Mum will be so proud. Hmmm...My mum kept telling my wife, " I must apologize dear, I didn't do a real good job on him, did I ?" My own old mum !!?? Oh well !! Good job Matt !
This is excellent. Ive been looking at those grids for my own workshop. I have a quick Q: do you think theres any risk of damp (or lack of ventilation) under the joists if theres insulation down under the OSB? I note you havnt got any insulation in this build...
It's like watching a dude wake up from a hangover and told to do something, otherwise he won't get laid. The Emphasis of getting it done, is staggered upon a simple threat.
Matt be honest you only had a shave because your mum gave you an ear bashing about looking scruffy didn't she? As for the summer house doesn't your mum want to use it all year round? If so it would have been better to insulate the floor overwise she's definitely going to find it cold to be in. It's great to see that you're doing something for your mum as I was brought up with the same great attitude, I was brought up in the day's when the most important person in your life is your mum as she is the one person that basically you owe your life too and as such should alway's be willing to help out in anyway shape or form possible. I have four adult children who my wife and I brought up in very much the same mindset but unfortunately if you ask the younger generation for anything nowadays they are alway's way too busy to help you, unless of course it's the girlfriends family that's asking them!. Anyhow well done and hats off to you for taking the time and making the effort to look out for your mum by building her the summerhouse she wants and for getting a shave for her 👏 👍 😉. As always buddy 💯% 👍.

Sounds like a very good skill to have
@@Badgerworkshop i wouldn't have like to have done it as a job, its too hard work!
If only those days were here 4 the younger lads instead of pressing buttons like some secretary

This is absolurely perfect for me. Well presented, simple ans cost effective. Thankyou.
Enjoyed that….at the end, why did you put on ear defenders whilst you trampled the soil??
That base looks super easy to use, thanks for sharing and thanks for including your son in the video too 🙃

My workshop is on a similar plastic base. It certainly makes it easier. Great project, hope Mum is feeding you well!
Thank you. She definitely is
Damn good Michael Flatley impression @2.25. Interesting build. looking forward to see the rest of the build :)
Haha. Thank you

Excellent. I've been intrigued by these plastic grids ever since you mentioned them on your podcast!
They work great and are a cheap option
I’m looking forward to this series.
Was there any talk about insulating under the OSB floor?
Great video. I've been deliberating over what base to use for a garden office and this looks like a great solution. I look forward to the next video.
Thank you. They work well
I’ve just completed a Dunster house summer house using the grids and gravel 4.5m x 5m no problems at all just need to be totally level
Glad they worked well

They work well. I will use them again
Busy days work Matt.👍👍

I had to dig a 2 metre long trench at the weekend, I'm still getting over it. I'd be completely knackered after that!

I will have to find that video
Well done Matt. Glad to see you more perky in your videos! I couldn’t help thinking of Benny Hill at the end of your video 😂
I’d really like to know how this base has held up?
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the project matt! I think your pieces to camera could be even better if you drop the word "so" when you are starting off.
🤔🤔🤔
is there any need to get rig of the turf if the grass is level ??
I like the concept of that base, never seen that before. Thanks

Get yourself a Kicka Digga mate. It makes digging so much quicker
Hi

How much shingle did you use? Laying a 14 x 8ft base in my garden. Being a novice I’m not sure how much I’ll need. Thanks
Hi, I’m just about to start a similar project. I noticed there isn’t a gap between the base and floor. Is it not necessary to have a gap for airflow?
wat are the suspender belt your using on your trousers ? looks great keeps em up ????
Search for truckers braces
Hi matt, was this 100mm c24? or did you use 150mm. thanks. great series 👍
Great start to the project, dont you scrub up well
Haha thank you.
What a good lad ! Mum will be so proud. Hmmm...My mum kept telling my wife, " I must apologize dear, I didn't do a real good job on him, did I ?" My own old mum !!?? Oh well !! Good job Matt !
Haha thank you Brian

I have a quick Q: do you think theres any risk of damp (or lack of ventilation) under the joists if theres insulation down under the OSB? I note you havnt got any insulation in this build...
You could raise them up so there is air flow if worried
I would raise to ensure ventilation..
If so hire a compactor plate and definitely let it have some ventilation on the floor joists
Nooice!!
You should have used some Irish music for the stamping down of the ground.....lol.
Im not far from there im 8n Daventry

Nice job but where is the beard gone?.😃
It will be back

She does not want to see my face
