refused are the guys that started modern hardcore, actually legendary. check out "refused are fucking dead" on youtube someone posted the original dvd on youtube. it goes through the motions since the 90s
"Lowkey" has been as adultered as "literally" in the past ten or fifteen years. This is HIGH-KEY a definitive album of its era and is just as spicy as when it came out.
That whole album "Shape of Punk to Come" (an homage to Ornette Coleman's Shape of Jazz to Come) is INCREDIBLE. These guys are consummate musicians AND have the punk/hardcore ethos. You gotta do "Worms of the Senses/Faculties of the Skull" !! Not many albums better than this in the last 25 years.
These guys were so ahead of their time. Who doesn't love a band full of hardcore Swedish socialists from the 90s? My people! Should check out some of their music from the game Cyberpunk 2077, they did all the songs by the band Samurai in the game. Highly Recommend.
If you like this try Fugazi. These guys are very influenced by Fugazi. Maybe do "Waiting Room" "Bed for the Scrapping" "Blueprints" "Merchandise" and "Suggestion" are all bangers IMO.
I wouldn't consider refuse to be pop punk or heavy metal, I would call them Hardcore. The distinction between heavy metal and hardcore might not be super apparent to someone who's new to heavy heavy white people music, but as you listen to more and more, you'll start to notice that there is a pretty distinct difference. Heavy metal is great, but I personally do think that hardcore is typically more fun.
Refused are the fathers of modern post-hardcore, emo and screamo. All of the tropes of the late 2000's and early 2010's of hardcore bands started with this album.
My daughter's 8th grade 4x400m relay team used this as their hype song. It would scare the shit out of the other team Swifties. It's also the song used as the lead up to the state championship game in the movie Friday Night Lights with Billy Bob Thornton. I still get chills when I hear the intro.
Such an amazing song, so glad to see this here. Need to do some Glassjaw next, maybe Ape Dos Mil, followed up by the groove of Brooklyn is Burning from Head Automatica. Ah, or even better yet, do yourself and listen the to the album Tiger and the Duke from The Sound of Animals Fighting, any of the Acts on there would be amazing to react to.
Yes! I’m so glad to see you’re enjoying one of my favorite bands! I saw them live in 2016 and the pit during this song was INSANE. I know I’ve said this before, but I still think you should check out “Close Your Eyes and Count to Fuck” by Run the Jewels. I’d love to see your reaction to that.
Someone needs to get this man on blackhole sun for me. With how much he loved chris before, and how much more he got into the genre. That'll be a banger video.
There was a scene of Scandinavian prog-rock in the late 90's, but this album towered over everything else. If no decimals, this is a 10/10 album for me. An honourable mention is Düreforsög(DK) "Knee", which is also an unknown gem.
I am over 50 years old and this song has been in my top 10 songs since I first heard it in 1998. 25+ years later and it is still one of the best songs ever!
I can say of the two times I saw them live, they don't disappoint. Also, I saw the singer after the show jump out of the bus after a show, still drenched in sweat after dancing and jumping around like a maniac the entire set. I didn't even intend to meet him, I was just going back to my car.
SO happy to see you react to this since it's one of my favorite songs from the album that has meant the most to me personally of all time. The Shape of Punk to Come was released in 1998 and is one of the most influential albums for the post hardcore and metalcore genres. If you want to hear something more lyrics focused, check out the opening track "Worms of the Senses / Faculties of the Skull".
@@fudgenuggets405I still remember my reaction from my first listen. It's like hitting second gear and having the tires chirp in a car that is full of surprises the harder you push it.
Bro I'm a white boy (obviously) but Kendrick and Refused are probably my two faves of all time. Know every word to everything both have ever done. Love this.
i just found this song after 20 years i remembered the lyrics lol. yo your the man bro this song is a fucken masterpiece aye it had the same effect on me . BANGER
Breh love the openness of your music taste like mine love this keep doing thrash/ metal / punk with hip hop stuff to i hope you start doing anime opening too
Swedish very early Hardcore Rock music :) they played a concert every day for over a year and even 2 shows some days, the record set by most concert in a year! epic band
The singer, Dennis Lyxzen, went on to front a band called The (International) Noise Conspiracy with a very different sounds, but a more overtly political message. It's not "hard" music, but I've long considered their song "Only Lovers Left Alive" to be a kind of sequel to New Noise.
you gotta understand, this WAS the new beat back in the day. this was a completely new sound, there was nothing like it before. all the screamo you know today goes back to this song and album, there was nothing similar in punk and hardcore by the time. we listened to this and were like "what the f ... oh wow, this is good!!"
Check out the song Grown So Cold by Dead American. New Noise was on Refused album The Shape of Punk to Come, Grown So Cold is on Dead American’s album The Shape of Punk is Dumb. Influenced heavily by Refused, just 30 years later.
I liked the Anthrax cover of this as well. Refused are so underated. Hard ass sh@t you can dance to? And Cheers to your patreon member for requesting this. Good taste is infinite! Nice reaction. Peace!
Seen them so many times and also saw one of their last concerts before the split... One thing though: Track first afaik first released on "The Shape of Punk to Come" not on The New Noise EP.
I've been popping in to watch a video or two every once in a while on your channel for a few months now mostly for some of your reactions to SOAD and Metallica. And it is nice to see someone trying to branch out a bit. Even if it's not something they typically would like. And to that end, while it may not be metal, per se, I would like to suggest 'Spitting Venom' or 'This Devil's Workday' by Modest Mouse. It's very much leaning into the alt music scene, and Modest Mouse is probably one of my favorite bands. I'd like to see what someone who doesn't quite share my musical taste thinks of them.
Awesome reaction! Refused was the last band that I saw live before covid shut down everything, and they were great! I think you need a taste of some more hardcore after that. You should check out "Take the Night Off" by Sick Of It All.
Hey as long as you're exploring post-punk you might want to check out "Viagra Boys". They've got some really weird songs that are simultaneously total bangers.
Refused were the first band to mix electronic music with hardcore/punk they actually broke up after playing a house party in Atlanta,Ga in 98 (might be wrong on year). Got back together in to early mid 2010's and put out an amazing album that imo is there best to date
Hell yes! This is one of the low key greatest punk/post-hardcore albums ever! Musically and lyrically a solid 9.7/10 for me. Legendary
One album.. kicked punk and hard-core music's ass all the way up. No emo if not for Refused.

Idk if you've played Cyberpunk or not, but this is the band that does all the music for the games fictional band "Samurai."

Interesting. Thanks for sharing, I'm still finishing up phantom liberty

Chippin in is SO fun to play on guitar
are you f*cking kidding me?
I've never seen this song leave anything but pure joy on reactors faces
Everytime I hear this song, like literally every goddamn time I forget how much I love this song.

Genuinely surprised and very glad you reacted to this! Try "The Deadly Rhythm" next!
ahhh, the drums on that song are sooooo fucking good
Refused is AWESOME. MORE PLEASE!

Facts. People didn't understand it back in the 90s bro. All I know I was with it. Lol
"My Chemical Romance, haven't you people ever heard of-" 😂 that's Panic At The Disco
Good examples of terrible white personal music lol
hey man at least the dude has the spirit😭😭😭
For years, I thought he was saying “Thank you Pete” at the end of the song. I didn’t know who Pete was, but I was thankful for him too!
Back in the day my buddy thought the section in the middle was saying "We dance with old Kurt Russell, We drive an old Ford Bronco". 😂
We used to say thank you Pete for fun.
i always heard " not guilty"
