The album name "The shape of punk to come" was kind of arrogant at the time, but man, this album DID actually shape the punk that came after it. This is an iconic album, a true classic.

Proper harsh vocal technique doesn't damage or strain vocal cords/voice. Because the harsh sounds aren't produced by the vocal cords then, and the cords aren't under stress, they are relaxed. And there are a lot of different harsh vocal techniques/styles. I'm not an expert, but in this case I'd say it does sound like his vocals are strained, that he's using improper technique.
Yeah, put on this record at the gym and expect serius gains. This album was hugely influential. Tons of bands tried to copy it. Mike shimodo said linkin park might not even exist if not for this album. And paramore used some of the lyrics in one of their songs.
When I was about 16-18 I spent all my time with people in the hardcore scene. I was a metalhead but I was the only one in my town so the HC crowd let me play with them. Refused were the leaders of an amazing Swedish hardcore scene. By the time this was released bands started going in different directions. I clearly remember how many hated this album and others loved it. 25 years later it's one of the albums EVERYONE remembers, it had a big impact. This song really is a banger and believe it or not, for this type of music, it's a dance song. If you want to check out another Swedish band that had even bigger international impact but aren't broadly known in Sweden you can check out At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul. From a Swedish music history perspective it's very important, but I doubt you'll like it, it's pretty extreme.
I've always loved this song! And if you want to experience an audio whiplash I really suggest checking out "Lost Patrol & Lisa Miskovsky - Alright", Lost Patrol being a solo project from Refused's vocalist. It's also a great tune in my humble opinion, but just remembering Dennis screaming his heart out in Refused and then listening to Alright... it's quite something :)
Growling like Dennis does here is not useing your vocal cords. You use a kind of throatsinging instead. It's a technique where you do not strain your vocal cords, so dont worry about his voice.

The move you called 'very white" was the lead singer emulating James Brown, who was not white, so you need more education in this area, just letting you know. Also not sure why anyone would take offense to being called "white." Unless you meant it as a put down, and if so, that goes against UA-cam's guidelines. Thanks. I love this song BTW, and it brought me to your channel, but your commentary might make me not like and subscribe. This song is definitely better than your channel.

Lill Lindfors - Musik ska byggas utav glädje
Can't help getting some serious Rage Against the Machine vibes. Never heard this song before, but I like it!

Refused was named in the top #100 of "most influential bands of all time" by Rolling Stones magazine, just to give them some context......

The cover Dennis does with HALM of "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" is also an interesting change of pace from New Noise and Malfire.
Just watched the Alright video and holy shit - you were not kidding about the difference. It's awesome!!!

Fun fact about Refused: they made the songs for the fictional band SAMURAI in the video game Cyberpunk 2077.
That's how I was first introduced to them...
The Teddybears Sthlm vibe is not wrong, the video was directed by Jocke Åhlund
Amen to the comment about the Dems around that time. Mercifully, things have changed...

Rather be dead is a another great Refused song.
Sad fact: Refused singer Dennis Lyxzen got a heart attack last month.
This fantastic reaction video should cheer him up in he’s recovery ❤️🩹
I hope he sees it and more importantly, I hope he recovers quickly!
