Refused are amazing, but they caught up to Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Iron Coss, the Faith, Void, Dag Nasty and the whole DC scene like 10-20 years later. Nothing in evolution of sound is happening in a vacuum. ;)
The Adventures of TNT The legend of their last show before breaking up in 1998 told in the documentary “Refused Are Fucking Dead” is amazing. And it involves the above mentioned song.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT Mike from Linkin Park said that one of the albums they used for reference when recording hybrid theory was the shape of punk to come, fun fact
Oh snap! You are doing Refused!! This album is a masterpiece from start to finish! Just discovered you recently and going through your videos, you have to be the most diverse reactor I know about and I love that! I saw them live, the energy was insane!
BIG UPS for reacting to this song! I can't believe it was even suggested but the fact you actually made a video is legit! Signed into my YT account for the first time in a while to say you're a bad ass. Keep it going!
I saw them in 2012 on their reunion tour. I met Dennis before the show. He was super cool. Refused was way ahead of their time. One of the best bands ever.
I saw them several times before this album came out. They used to be a more aggressive straight edge hardcore band before adapting the style of "New Noise..." They were awesome live before this album, and I'll assume they were afterwards (never saw them after this album released). They were a part of the Umea, Sweden straight edge scene which birthed a lot of killer bands like Abhinanda.
6:25 i actually saw them last year in Las Vegas, around valentines day. For an old post-hardcore punk band that broke up in 98', and didn't even think about reforming till 2012, They blew my expectations straight out of this solar system!!!🤘🤘 I'd HIGHLY recommend seeing them! With that being said, a lot of people seem to always forget that these dudes aren't in there 20's no more, and haven't really played this album much since they originally recorded it in 96'. America didn't even recognize it till years and years later lol. A musicians voice changes when you get older lol Just like every one else's. The best thing we can do is adapt and evolve, and that's exactly what they did. I give so much respect for even considering giving this song, let alone band, a react and your personal review. You got quite the taste in music brother man 🎶
I saw Refused when I was 12yo, in Kungsbacka, Sweden. A tiny town and a tiny venue - but it was packed. They had not appreciated the level of hardcore punk fans in this little town that's for sure. They were _not_ well known back then. We're talking before high speed broadband, so music was still shared on tapes in school. Aaaaaaaand I was just reminded of how old I am... That's how they got known in Sweden basically - piracy. People shared their stuff. But I digress. Yes, they were absolutely amazing live. I have seen some really energetic bands live since then, but Refused absolutely takes the cake, bar none.
To get the full effect of the build up, go watch the movie "Friday Night Lights" and fast forward to the championship game stadium entrance scene. Goose bumps galore.
Refused just absolutely shredded. The cardigans and button up shirts were the “emo” uniform of the 90s. If you look at any of the emo bands from the 90s, they looked exactly like these guys.
Saw them when they went back on tour the first year. They are easily one of the best live shows you’ll ever see. They play so precise and the odd time signatures are insane to watch them play live.
Cliche, but this gave me goosebumps. I loved you reaction when the vocals started. A band way ahead of its time , and they really shifted the sound of punk, which is what they wanted, hence the album name
Reading a free market capitalist while listening to a bunch of socialists 😄 Miltons son is a step better than his pops . Milton never took the final step to complete voluntaryism but Miltons still more entertaining to listen too .
The shape of punk to come will never get old. It has always been one of my favorite albums. About Refused conserts I will never forget my first one at a small trashy venue in my hometown. Must have been like ’95. The stage was small, no fences and security was just in case someone got knocked out and not so much for keeping people off stage, so there where a lot of stage diving and crowd surfing going from both the band and the crowd. The atmosohere was rough but friendly. You could easily get a blody nose from the moshpit but with no hard feelings. Great days!
I am late to the party seeing as I listened to this at least a year ago. But thank u so much for listening and glad to see u enjoyed it. They unfortunately broke, only reformed recently, but nothing comes close to what this song was for me. Lead singer was also in a band called international noise conspiracy while they weren’t playing, though their sound was probably closer to the hives
Not late, Mozart, Bach, Pärt, Glass will be there even when you are gone... So take your time and enjoy life while you still have it... Ars Longa Vita Brevis
I saw them in 2012 on their reunion tour. They were great. Way ahead of their time. The shape of punk to come is a masterpiece. Respect from Baltimore as always.
Nice to see the original, not the Anthrax cover (I like the Anthrax cover too tho). These guys have been around since the early 90s and still rock, Nice choice T. Peace!
Oh, I've seen them live a few times in their hometown of Umeå in the later part of the 90's. They were absolutely insane. The energy on stage was unseen of.
refused - pump the brakes gothenburg 2012 if you listen to the album version its different cause their first two records were thrash / hardcore punk , new noise is on their third record . The music is similar , dude just kinda changed how he sings . He used to not have that scream .
Awesome reaction! If you wat another special song by them i suggest checking out tannhauser/ derrive its absolutely awesome! Boredom won't get me tonight!
The whole album (The Shape of Punk to Come) is a game changer. You must check it out and if you get a chance, see them live. No other frontman can put on a show like Dennis. Just check out some live performances and you'll see. Check out The International Noise Conspiracy as well. Dennis fronted that band as well.
Ahead of their time for sure, this band had a huge influence on me as a kid in highschool. 20 years later theyre still one of my favorite bands. Elektra is my favorite song by them and the Samurai stuff they did for cyberpunk 2077 is worth checking out.
The song that got me into refused was The Shape of Punk to Come followed immediately afterwards by New Noise. I recommend that one, and on the weirder tip- Tannhauser//Derive, my favorite album ever made. When I saw them live and they ended w Tannhauser in a surprise encore, I screamed myself lightheaded. Best show of my life
HAHAHa OMG my man in the states react to an old swedish punkhardcore music from the 90's :) I mean you really need this NOW. Ive seen Refused a bunch of times throughout different eras and they always killed it , they were monsters live , The Deadly Rhythm is also a great song
This is one of my favorite bands of all time. That video is from 1998. They were ahead of their time for sure. I have seen them live after they came back from a 17 year hiatus. They are amazing. You can see some video I took from the show on my channel. Cool part about that video is that YT hit me for copy right and the band told them it was ok for me to keep the video up.
You’ve probably already heard it but if you haven’t I’d like to see your reaction to a song by Level 42 “There is Something About You”. Great videos, love your channel 👍

Same here bro, makes me wanna do a double backflip
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come is such a badass album. Listen to it from beginning to end
Over 20 years later and it's still FAR ahead of its time.
They absolutely kill it live. I’ve seen them a bunch of times.
Seriously. One of the best live shows I've ever seen.
I still listen to the album The Shape of Punk to Come, just love it.
For me it's most important album of all time
so polite with that first line "can I scream?"

This album truly was the shape of punk to come. I too wish I could see them live. They rock super hard.
I wish I could listen to New Noise for the first time again
I've seen thousands of bands live but I don't think I've ever seen a crowd go as crazy as when this song kicks in

Dare I say this is the greatest punk rock song, ever! Yup, I sure do!!!!
If you liked this check out Nation of Ulysses and Fugazi, two DC punk bands which Refused owe pretty much everything to.
