I do think that you're overlooking the Choice Specs as an item option for special attackers in Platinum. It's in Celestic Town from an NPC and locks you in to one move in exchange for boosting your special damage by 50%
The Blank Plate originates from the Legends game, where there's no held items. The Blank Plate can be used on Arceus to turn it back to a normal type there.
Plus it's just cool to have all the options available, and ties regigigas to the game's story. I do kinda hope that the legend plate or at least Unown's unique hidden power does appear again in the future
@@nyambrosial1244 I don’t think hidden power will work like that in the future unless their battle system is like pla. If it did I feel like unown will be the only Pokémon to get it instead of a lot of Pokémon by TM for balance reasons. Of course that would mean that you’d either have to mod it to always be in that form, or start the game with its orb, but I think it would be really interesting to see how it differs from regular Giratina, since I believe it is slightly faster and much more offensive, rather than defensive.
I feel like modding the game to have it always be in that form is the better option because the orb also gives a 20% boost to both of its STABs which would be a massive advantage no other pokemon gets. I disagree. The way Pokémon change forms is central to their identities, and if they can't get the forms until later in the game (or ever before postgame), or if they have to go out of the way to change forms, then that's a disadvantage they have to live with. It's a similar reasoning for the concept of not disabling encounters in the Pokémon Mansion (slow level curve mons get slowed down by encounters or have to pay for repels) compared to most areas of Red having encounters disabled (so that variance in number of encounters doesn't impact run length of a comparatively short game).
@@rypato1992 That orb is an upside, like, a massive upside for Giratina. You lose berries in a few fights but gain permanent 20%+ to your STAB options that applies multiplicatively with STAB.
Fundamentally it will change how Giratina will play in it's O-form since it is meant to be offensive as compared to altered form. It also allows for more content which is gd for us. We can have both Giratina-A and Giratina-O rated to see how different they are, with Giratina-O having the disadvantage of being locked to it's signature held item
If you think about it, if Scott used the Toys R Us Arceus gift Pokemon... there would be no completion even if you change its Level 100 to 1. Like it would be scary.
Hey Scott, noticed while watching the Cynthia battle that Return's base power isn't properly updating with Arceus' type. 47:36 showing as 153 vs Garchomp, so the overlay is still calculating stab for it even though Arceus no longer is a normal type. Ultimately didn't end up mattering here though, and I'm not sure if there's another Pokemon besides Arceus this bug would effect in Platinum. Maybe the Porygon line using Conversion? Enjoyed seeing all of these videos though. I think in the future it'd be cool to revisit these Pokemon and see how they would do with their signature tools. Arceus starting with Judgement and Giratina with its Griseous Orb. Thank you for putting so much time into this!
16:59 just a reminder: Grass Knot is a 120BP move thanks to how heavy Arceus and Giratina is, it's no surprise they had a hard time vs Gardenia even when resisting the move. Garchomp is lucky, for it it's only a 80BP move which probably made Scott complacent.
I think a fun eventual send off to the four god pokemon would be to do a race video like this but where all four are at full power. Giratina in origin form from the start. Backport dialga and palkia’s origin forms from legends with their appropriate stat changes. And if possible backport the multi-type plate from legends for arceus so he is all types, if that’s not doable then start the game with all plates in your inventory already.
I was expecting more Natural Gift use in the playthrough, but I guess it's too cumbersome. 23:03 But Giratina isn't evil! It's just a loner that wants others out of its -lawn- alternate dimension, and that it has been unfairly represented by both fans and a recent retcon that is best forgotten.
Fun fact: theres an in game sprite in platinum (and gen 5 games i think too) for a typeless arceus. Its horns around its body are a pretty cyan color as i recall. Too bad its unused
I've always loved Arceus. Something so majestic and regal about it. Sure it is basically a llama stuck in a fence but that's the charm of it all Also I know the tier list is based on Gen 1 hence Surge and Bruno But I would love if for each region you relabel the Surge and Bruno tiers with the worst trainers of their respective regions So for Sinnoh I guess they'd be the Byron and Volkner tiers I dunno just a way to add some charm to each list
I've seen 360Chrism do Arceus plate bingo, where he tries to get a bingo on a 4x4 board of all the plates purely through mining. The VODs are 6-7 hours, getting 1.4-1.6 unique plates per hour. Please don't try to get a specific plate like that.
I know this is a very minor and niche thing but your overlay is calculating stab for return with the sky plate equipped during the league. Honestly probably not even worth the headache to fix it but just wanted to point it out.
I'm not sure which helps Arceus more: the fact that he's Pokemon's God, or the fact that he gets swords dance. Nearly every mon that gets that is excellent in solo runs, regardless of generation. Except the Nincada family.
For Pokémon with even offensive stats I feel as though a special attacker set is always best since 1) no worries for intimidate 2) no worries for burns There’s no special equivalent to these two mechanics in that no ability lowers special attack n no status lowers it either… Moves like fake tears have very limited distribution if any at all during play throughs and physical walls are more common like rock types….
I opened UA-cam, this was the first video that appeared. Not even 2 seconds later, I got the notification for the video lol The thing I'm most curious about these playthroughs is how Scott is going to use Arceus' ability
Because there's a LOT of Pokemon in platinum, and solo challenges for EVERYONE would take wayyyy too long. He explained it in a recent video. - I think the Garchomp one
@Scott's Thoughts It would would be awesome to see an Arceus playthrough where it starts with Judgement. It's its signature move and unlike like the Sinnoh trio, we'd never see it in a normal playthrough.
I've always considered arceus to be mid compared to other legendaries. The individual base stat average for legendaries is around 114, so all of arceus's stats are barely above average. And literally the only legendary pokemon without a primary attack stat over 120 is Giratina who is bulky. Mono type also tends to have a disadvantage to dual types (less STAB and weakness coverage).
Early prediction: with balanced stats and access to Swords Dance, Arceus will come out on top. That and Multitype will be a factor. Giratina may be a beast, but with a lack of setup moves and a more constrained movepool overall, it's just gonna fall behind.
13:47 it's always funny to see how different we thought about moves as kids. Kid Scott is like wow leech seed doesn't do any damage it's useless, while kid me went wow I can cheese almost any fight thanks to how busted leech seed is 😅
ooooh... I have a thought... how about doing Arceus runs with only 1 plate each run and you start with it. You can then purely compare types with no other differences.
Nostalgia from lack of experience has teens/kids is what carries her hype she is decent at best in comparison to trainers like Ghetsis, Kukui, N or Iris. Garchomp is great but like he is in the same Gen as Froslass that is a whole speed tier ahead and one taps him easily and the rest of her team while not bad it's underwhelming since Lucario isn't very fast and frail, Togekiss is too slow to abuse Air Slash Serene Grace, Spiritomb, Milotic and Roserade are kinda whatever. Compared to champions like Iris, N and Kukui she's really nothing special
I think you guys are really under valuing the things that made Cynthia tough in a blind first play through of Diamond and Pearl. First of all she is the only trainer in the game with Spiritomb or Garchomp, and the Garchomp in particular has to be specificity prepared for or you will be in trouble and if you are going in blind the chance you have a specific counter is unlikely and in Diamond and Pearl there is no possibility of Froslass before beating her. Also a player in a blind play through is unlikely to have a set up move to punish how passive Spiritomb is. If you have to specifically prepare your entire the entire game to beat the champion that is a sign of quality. Second is she has a well balanced team which tends to help her out greatly when she is compared to other trainers. She was also one of the first trainers that game freak designed with really good coverage moves. In AI tournaments I’ve seen she consistently beats other champions. The levels certainly help her, and are an additional challenge in a blind play through. Anyway I’m belaboring the point too much, Golden Owl has a really good video on Cynthia and why they made her way harder in BDSP to match the expectations she set in those 20 year old blind play throughs.
In DP, Volkner's ace is at level 49. Her first Pokemon is at level 61, and her Garchomp is at 66. She got NOTICEABLY toned down in Platinum, and every member of her team got made noticeably worse besides the Gastrodon getting replaced with Togekiss. Like, in DP, if you aren't specifically planning your team around her, one member of her team is almost assuredly going to completely screw you up, whether it be the Milotic's Mirror Coat, Garchomp's... well, everything, or Lucario's frankly ridiculous coverage options. Even in Platinum she's either the hardest trainer in the game or the second hardest easily (Distortion World Cyrus is a menace too), even if she lost that edge. Scott's got the right of it -her central issue here is that in this format, you're going to be way, way over her level. In any other kind of challenge she's significantly more frightening. Some other trainers in Pokemon are 100% gut-checks to people who don't know what they're doing, like BW Ghetsis (who would be a significant threat if his lead weren't an absolute joke, thus meaning that you have a ton of Pokemon who can just set up on it forever), but Cynthia has meat on her bones.
@@Dpmtunless you're playing with restrictions (no items in battle, set style, using bad mons, etc.) she's really not hard in a blind playthrough, at most you're losing once or twice getting trolled, but you don't have to blackout and change things up except if you did something fundamentally wrong with your team
@@rooislangwtf Yes, that is how every Pokémon game works. Though the fact that you even have to team build properly makes my point for me. 6 random Pokémon with no strategy is going to get crushed by her a majority of the time and I shutter to think how much worse it would be if the player was restricted to no EVs like her in Gen 4. Those EVs are starting to make up for a couple levels by that point in the game. Scott has probably been playing as too scared of Cynthia because of her fearsome reputation and his experience of getting stuck on Champion fights. He also isn’t doing anything like battling Steven in Emerald or Red in the Johto games, so his level target is easy to hit with the available rare candies. I imagine this will be partly fixed by the Cynthia super boss battle when he gets to B/W about a year from now since it is easy to see him running her from the start, but I would also like to see him start running the post Heatran round 2 battles like we see in recent FireRed videos.
why don't you take the time of all pokemon and take the median as average for a normal distribution. that way you could place the tiers according to the normal distribution. perfectly balanced and nice when viewed as a graph.
But Scott, you failed to mention that Venomoth can change its type at will too.

I disagree, because if it has to hold the orb, that’s the downside of a more aggressive Giratina
@@rypato1992it’s not about being better or worse. It’s about seeing a comparison.
I love getting done with work and having a new video to watch everyday
If you think about it, if Scott used the Toys R Us Arceus gift Pokemon... there would be no completion even if you change its Level 100 to 1. Like it would be scary.
When you see that thumbnail, you know it's going to be an epic video.
The "God" Pokémon vs. the "Satan" Pokémon A fitting finale indeed. Fitting its at the top of the food chain... for now.
Cant wait for Scott to do the Toxicroak line in Platinum, with learning nasty plot, access to swords dance, and the decent coverage it gets
The pinnacle of "I HAVE THE POWER OF GOD (and satan) AND ANIME BY MY SIDE!"
Wow arceus really impressed despite being almost 10 minutes behind at one point. Can't wait to see you clean up the play and get under 2 hours
Oh adding to request for Alolan Raichu in Yellow I would like to see Hisuian Typloshion in Crystsl as a backport.
Fun fact: theres an in game sprite in platinum (and gen 5 games i think too) for a typeless arceus. Its horns around its body are a pretty cyan color as i recall. Too bad its unused
I've always loved Arceus. Something so majestic and regal about it.
Sure it is basically a llama stuck in a fence but that's the charm of it all
Also I know the tier list is based on Gen 1 hence Surge and Bruno
But I would love if for each region you relabel the Surge and Bruno tiers with the worst trainers of their respective regions
So for Sinnoh I guess they'd be the Byron and Volkner tiers
I dunno just a way to add some charm to each list
It's a horse
Ohh the renaming tiers advice sounds so fun. I second that
I literally said yesterday. I wonder when he’s going to do Arceus. Nice!
sick as distortion world thumbnail
Love your videos. Any particular reason for TM01 being oddly misplaced in the Movepool list?
COME ON, SATAN! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!
*wait....*
Scott, are we going to rank each kind of pokemon individually, like Giratina Origin and each Rotom (like Fridge)?
Having a Flying type move for Gardenia is pretty really nice! Good thing you can get Pluck before Gardenia.
You did get Pluck, right?
I've seen 360Chrism do Arceus plate bingo, where he tries to get a bingo on a 4x4 board of all the plates purely through mining. The VODs are 6-7 hours, getting 1.4-1.6 unique plates per hour. Please don't try to get a specific plate like that.
23:53 the plate also boost arceus moves, so basically giving arceus 20% boost in normal form
I know this is a very minor and niche thing but your overlay is calculating stab for return with the sky plate equipped during the league. Honestly probably not even worth the headache to fix it but just wanted to point it out.
A giritina vs. match could be fun. Theoretically, the offensive form has the advantage, but item holding might give the normal one advantage.
Any chance of a venomoth video with multitype?
I'm not sure which helps Arceus more: the fact that he's Pokemon's God, or the fact that he gets swords dance. Nearly every mon that gets that is excellent in solo runs, regardless of generation. Except the Nincada family.
You’re the man, Scott
For Pokémon with even offensive stats I feel as though a special attacker set is always best since
1) no worries for intimidate
2) no worries for burns
There’s no special equivalent to these two mechanics in that no ability lowers special attack n no status lowers it either…
Moves like fake tears have very limited distribution if any at all during play throughs and physical walls are more common like rock types….
I opened UA-cam, this was the first video that appeared.
Not even 2 seconds later, I got the notification for the video lol
The thing I'm most curious about these playthroughs is how Scott is going to use Arceus' ability
Has Scott ever explained the rationale for doing evolutionary lines runs in platinum? I find them quite hard to compare to individual runs
Because there's a LOT of Pokemon in platinum, and solo challenges for EVERYONE would take wayyyy too long.
He explained it in a recent video. - I think the Garchomp one
variety - doing the same kinds of runs in every game can get tiring.
22:10 always weird to see old pokemon designs with new ones, especially color changes
I think Scott hasn’t played any of the newer games if he’s confused by the blank plate
@Scott's Thoughts It would would be awesome to see an Arceus playthrough where it starts with Judgement. It's its signature move and unlike like the Sinnoh trio, we'd never see it in a normal playthrough.
How does hail hit you when you are literally in other dimension?
Poor Giratina, being forgotten that the second playthrough wasn't counted here
Are you only ranking first playthroughs in that list?
I've always considered arceus to be mid compared to other legendaries. The individual base stat average for legendaries is around 114, so all of arceus's stats are barely above average. And literally the only legendary pokemon without a primary attack stat over 120 is Giratina who is bulky. Mono type also tends to have a disadvantage to dual types (less STAB and weakness coverage).
Kinda feel bad for Barry in this one. He lets you pick your pokemon first and you get god while he gets a monkey.
But can either of them create bubbles?
Why don’t we just use a standardized metric like z scores to make the tier list?
Ah man, Bertha killed Giratina right at the end.... It was neck and neck
“Heaven. Hell. Let’s rock!”
The battle of gods. The angel and the devil. Who will triumph?
The more I look at Arceus the more divine it looks. The Alpha pokemon indeed this pokemon is majestic and it deserves its s teir placement.
Seeing Giratina in Origin Forme sweeping through Platinum could be fun
Why don`t you use the bicycle?
Early prediction: with balanced stats and access to Swords Dance, Arceus will come out on top. That and Multitype will be a factor.
Giratina may be a beast, but with a lack of setup moves and a more constrained movepool overall, it's just gonna fall behind.
Heaven or Hell!
Let's Rock!
Why do people equte the creation of life and pain and suffering as good, but equate the upside down guy with evil?
Pokémon Platinum is so hard that even God himself can't breeze through it😂
13:47 it's always funny to see how different we thought about moves as kids.
Thanks for the great clip
Definitely interested in a griseous orb giratina run
Seconded.
Praise the God Llama, Ar-say-us! 🙏
I know its immature. But I can't help to gigle everytime PP problem is brought up. "It has a PP problem, it has a tiny PP"
I'm trying really, really hard to make a Warhammer40k reference.....but I can't think of one that fits this category!
Horus vs the Emperor.
You should use special attacks against Bertha when playing with Giratina
I hope you do a Giratina run with its origin item from the start sometime
Ah yes the 😇 vs 😈 of Pokemon, should be good
44:28 Cynthia is fairly overhyped, and tends to be carried pretty hard by the fact she's got a nearly 15 level jump from gym 8.
Scott forgot the chesto berry again😅
Want to request a change in the tier names for this game to Byron and volkner tier…
Id love to see a run with the griseous orb just for fun
