Okay. We've heard Sierra do a number of Doc Watson covers over the years. Who else agrees with me that maybe a CD ( or an EP ) of nothing but Doc Watson covers would be highly appropriate?
No argument
That’s probably 10-15k for her to come up with. A go fund me in exchange for a cd might be a good way to get it started.
I'd go for it but it needs to be issued on vinyl too. Maybe a limited edition, signed copy. I'd be willing to shell out $30 for that.
@@elliottcrews4997 I would pay $100 for that.
I would look to buy one.
Who needs a band if you can SWING like that!
So many child protegys can't make the transition to full fledged adult artist's. Sierra had gone well beyond that to the point that she may become on of the all-time greats. Just a wonderful performance.
She's already an all time great. 🖖
I think everyone especially doc Watson fans would agree that doc would've loved that cover..
she's got soul😄
Absolutely!
Agreed
Agreed - but just like to add you're my namesake - Chad is my nickname.
Doc LOVED when people covered his songs right.
An extraordinary mandolin player, an amazing guitar picker and an extraordinary vocalist. Just wow...
I didn’t even know Sierra could play guitar. She’s really good on it
@@wickham53 Sierra and her hubby, Justin, are both fantastic on many different instruments. The two of them are unbelievably talented. I have seen videos of Sierra flat out playing the guitar just as fast and well as she dose the mandolin. I have heard Sierra say though that she loves playing the mandolin most of all. I agree with here. the mandolin is my first love as well. I just wish I could play even just 1% as well as she does.
ezsparky
Talented is a weird word.
The hard fact is that she’s been playing since she was a very little girl.
It’s all about practice and tenacity.
@@powbobs I just discovered that one has to go to the actual video's page to read a persons full comment. Comments are not fully shown in the notification section. Lucky, I only missed your last sentence in your comment. I never before noticed that this was the case. Makes me wonder now just how many replies I made to other people's replies to me without my having fully read their comments. lol
@@powbobs The hard fact is that that last sentence is an incorrect statement.
This beautiful woman brings me to tears. That was perfectly played
I love Sierra hull she is not only a great mandolin player but she plays guitar extremely well and has a great voice and my she’s easy on the eyes don’t take this wrong I am married butThis kid is the total package and I’m just saying what most people are politically afraid to say so get over it
Doc was the best. Glad the younger generations haven't forgotten him. King of flat picking sure is missed
Wonderful version of this song! For someone who more commonly plays mandolin, Sierra is a fantastic guitar player.
This is certainly one of the best versions of this song I've heard.
I was asked who inspired you the most with strings. I told the radio show I had grown up with the 50's-60's and rock of the 70s, but as I aged I watched a young child play in the street holding a majic mandolin.I followed her progress on social media till today on her UA-cam Channel. "Who is it? God made the child with majic fingers, golden pipes for vocals and a smile that stays with her while she sleeps. Her name is Sierra Hull -- the queen of bluegrass. This was in Houston 93Q. They had to Google....lol
This is the first thing I heard from Sierra. I was amazed! It’s not just that she can sing and play so well, but her arrangement is superb. What musicality!
I love how she’s using the hybrid picking technique. Her playing reminds me of Bert Jansch. Sierra Hull is flat out brilliant ❤️
Exactly right! I was distracted by her excellent left hand technique until I noticed that she was holding a flatpick and doing standard Travis picking patterns with her fingers. That’s the ultimate right hand technique!
Can't understand why I just discovered this fabulously talented young lady. Sierra's music is one of life's pleasures.
I have listened to this so many times, and just realized that I haven't commented to the great quality of this performance. I have (through YT videos), watched Sierra grow up playing. Sierra, you are amazing. The thing (or I guess quality) that I admire most in a picker is on display whenever you play. A lot of people rate themselves (or strive) for speed. A lot of people also think that makes those pickers special. While you certainly can make an instrument smoke, what I appreciate most of all is the tonality. The word that best describes (for me) what I hear when you play is crystalline. Your playing is so precise, yet with such a natural flow. Imagine the row of glasses each filled with a different level of water. When they are struck each has such a pure clear tone. That is what we get from you. Without all the buzzing and humming and double strikes of strings etc. that we get from some players. As has been said here by others, great picker, wonderful singer, IMHO not yet fully appreciated writer as well. Keep doing what you do Sierra. Looking forward to more of the same, and whatever is next.
I love this kid! Some may have experienced it too, but I remember her as a little girl, (maybe 8-10). She could smoke everybody at the old Independence school house. One Night I was asked to play Mandolin and didn't have one. Well this cute lil gal says I can play her F-5. I get ready to get up on the little stage and she is laughing at me because the guys point out that her strap says "Girl Power" lol. never will forget those days of growing up and seeing folks like her and Jamie Dailey and several others who cut their teeth in the Cumberland river area!
I remember when she played mando on stage along side Alison Krauss & Union Station when she was also way too young to be so talented.👍🏽
I've played guitar since I was a kid 20 yrs ago and never figured out this song Ur amazing and keep on doing it
Really impressed by Sierra’s rare talent across multiple instruments and her musical intelligence. This is a really well thought out arrangement on a classic song by a legendary artist. Terrific work!
This is one of the best covers I have ever heard. This actually gave me chills
I started playing guitar 15 years before she was born. I can't do any of that. It's not fair. So, I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I, gonna bust the windows out my car !!! But seriously, this is world class talent. !! Just found her. Awesome
Awsome girl very proud of you ... I'm from the Appalachian Mountains. Thank you and @billystrings for carrying the torch ...😳😳😳
I think you need to throw Molly Tuttle into the mix as well...........
how can people not like this?
My eyes instantly filled with tears when she started singing
There's beginner, intermediate, professional...then there's this
Talent is talent.
Amen brother...
This is phenomenal. Thank you for the great rendition of this song, originally written by Mel Tillis and Wayne Walker and of course immortalized by Doc Watson.
Subscription EARNED! 😁👍👍👏👏👏 BRAVO!!! AMAZING TALENT! ❤️ Best wishes from New Orleans! ✌️
I dare to say that Sierra Hull is the best mandolin player out there now. Her technique is flawless. In my opinion, no one else out there is better, cleaner or faster than she is now. This is not to say there are not great mandolin players out there for sure. Sierra can play anything they can and do it with better technical perfection while playing it as fast if not faster. The cool thing is that she also has the creativity there as well along with these incredible mandolin skills. The scary thing is that she is as good, if not better, on the guitar. Sierra has improved her singing tremendously since her younger days. She really has found her singing voice now; creating her own style and such. She now has gained full control of her voice and how to express herself with her voice in a very pleasing beautiful way that is all her own. PS Her husband is equally amazing on so many different instruments as well.
Chris Thile is the best mandolinist out there now. Sierra is, nonetheless, amazing. Both were child musical geniuses.
The "best player " obsession is something no actual musician wastes their time with.
This was recorded in 1962 by Jimmy Dean, and was written by Wayne Walker and Mel Tillis. I am reminded of Josh White when I hear it.
You CRUSHED Telluride last week. When you played this song, I flashed back to Telluride 2019. You played it then, but I was too Rocky Mountain High to note your name. Well I noted this time! -A new fan
Not fair that she is as good on the guitar as she is on the mando! LOL. Seriously, just love her playing on both. Hope you are going back to the Fur Peace Ranch. Would love to be there when you are performing in the magical Fur Peace Station.
Bravo keep the Americana Music alive! God Bless!
Absolutely....sweet version of a Doc favorite of mine and the first thing musically to put a smile on my face since the passing of Prine......thanks Mrs. Hull
You are one rare rock star! More! Rare you are Sister! Thank you God! For you
One mic, in a corner of her house, and it sounds like a record. Damn.
I feel like a proud papa fan, Miss Sierra. My what a nice touch you have on this great cover! I subscribed. I want to hear more!
Stunning virtuosity and love and respect for the original artist. And she is just beautiful
I hate to make it about this but I’ve never seen a woman with just a guitar do doc Watson justice. This is the best cover I’ve seen in a while.
Sierra you are great 👍 👌 picker I am a minister of music in my church ⛪ am 70 years old but you a great 👍 musician and beautiful voice keep on keeping on
wow ! this young lady has so much talent ! and only going to get better !!
some of the commenters on her actually know her and have seen her at a very young age. i would love it if you comment on her family . did she grow up in a musical family.. etc .
thanks
She is absolutely amazing I have not heard anything that she does that she does not do very very good infact I would say flawless 😍love it Sierra keep it up I am surly going to make it a priority to see her live ASAP I've been locked for the past 11 years and have been set free in my mind so many times listening to bluegrass I could not have made it with out music THANK YOU
Makes me proud to be an American!❤
Moving and inspiring! Doc would be proud.
Doc and Merle would be proud of that cover ty for carrying on such amazing musicianship!
very nice.... your voice really works with the melody
This is FANTASTIC!
❤unbelievable grandios ❤
And this is her second instrument; she made her name on mandolin. Such fine musicianship on both, and a fine singer to boot! She is in the vanguard of the young Americana pickers.
Wow. Just Wow.
One of my favorites
She has always been an extraordinary picker and a fine singer. Now, she is a great singer. So great to listen to her on this lovely old tune.
Awesome!
WOW!!! What a woman.
❤❤👏👏👏
That made me cry happy tears. Sharing this far and wide. Major thanks to Marty Stuart for having her on his show.
Miss Sierra, when they ask you,can you make folks feel what you feel inside you can tell them Yes, that was beautiful
I sit in awe when someone has a harder time breathing than playing an instrument. Such a talented young lady! I can't wait for you to come back to Michigan (West Michigan!!)
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down? It’s great!
Hey I'm just glad that this type of music is still around. I love this song. It is one my favorites. Doc was one of if not the best at what he did. He is the reason I got back into playing. Thank you.
Angelic!! Just heard this version on Bluegrass Junction. What an incredible interpretation! Please put this song up on more platforms!
THAT'S WHO IT WAS!!! I was searching forever trying to find the right cover!
That one has her husband Justin Moses playing the dobro on it as well
Some mighty fine picking.
Sweet, So sweet, and mellow fellow babies. I dug it now. Smooth and rich fellow babies.
Amazing, greetings from Austria
Wish she would play this in my head anytime I feel discouraged...
Gol Dang! I love it when I find a gem on UA-cam.
Country blues! BRAVO!!
what a wonderful guitar player! love her, wonderful soulful sister ! Rod in London
I love this! Sierra ,Molly ,Billy. Bluegrass is in good hands for the future.
She's is the Billy String female, total package. Can't imagine the hard work she has put to reach that level on mastering instrument and vocal, really impressive. There are so many great killer chromatic progressions in there. For those playing guitar, she has a capo on 1st fret but since her guitar is tuned half way down you can play it with a regular standard tuning in Am
That woman knocks me really down to the ground 😍
I'm a big fan . 💘love it.
Sierra Hull I saw you with Billy Strings, kind of got eclipsed. Now I realize you are top shelf. Enjoyed so much.
Damn. Every once in a while something just blows you away
You and your music are the best things I've seen and listen on UA-cam.
You are Awesome!
If you ever make it up to Humboldt CA I would love to meet you. Roll on the Mattole would be perfect.
Just saw her tonight play this song on a grand olde opry live stream with Marty Stewart. She can really play the guitar and sing beautifully. First time I have ever seen her I am a fan now!
Good Lord! That was incredible. Your tone is on point! Thank you for this.
A wonderful vocalist and can play multiple instruments and for years the mandolin has been her forte. I love hearing her.
billy strings fan but this is by far the best cover period could listen to this all day!!!!!
Fantastic.......simply Fantastic.......doin Doc proud......
Sounds great. At this point I'm seeing 37 thumbs down responses. What the heck, this girl rocks.
Amazing sensitive and tasteful playing of a Doc Watson tune. I think he would be blown away by it.
Doc would’ve LOVED THIS!
You are good Sierra Hull!
Doc would be so happy with this cover
2 years gone by and still love your music and voice !! If Doc were to choose one person to cover this song it should be you !
I wish I could hit the like button a few thousand times!
Whoo Man She is good.
So good. If, when all this is over, you ever tour the UK please make a stop in South Wales, we'd love to have you 🙂
Leeds too :-)
So much talent in a small body it’s crazy.
I always like seeing Sierra pick..I have seen some great legendary pickers but Sierra is such a true gift to us all right now!
What a talent. A joy to watch. Eye and ear candy at the same time. Makes me smile big time
UA-cam never ceases to surprise me. I have just stumbled across this artist, and what a treat that was. I've hit subscribe, so I am looking forward to more of this.
Makes my heart pitter pat. Love the little smirk on the breaks.
Oh yeah!
Heart of Kentucky. Hey Sierra. You are great at everything you sing and play. Katie.
