if you're doing mega buids this is great advice, but if you're just building small houses like the ones you showed in the video, this is terrible advice Blocks DO have texture, which means you can't just take the average color of a block and use it to make pallets, you also have to consider how that texture makes the block's color look, for example your dripstone, coral, and cherry wood house, the colors may in theory work together, the textures of the block make it a tad off as well you say "if you back far enough away from the block" but with this house you're only going to see it from up close, it's only a 5x5, so your block textures do matter

1:28 problem with your color wheel: it doesnt include all possible colors. (Our colorvision is threedimensional, so it cant be depicted in two dimensions)
The colorwheel is an attempt at visualizing the space of all visible colors by coloring a circle in a "continuous way" (the closer two colors the closer their positions on the circle). This is a good idea except for the fact that the two-dimensional circle cannot be used to exhaust the three-dimensional space of colorvision. You would need to color the entire volume of a body like a cube instead. This however could not be displayed on the flat displays that we use. 😢 Color theory is pretty vague and its fundamental rule goes something like: For a color pallette to look good, it should neither be boring (to little complexity) nor to overwhelming (to much complexity). A spacial distribution of the colors like in the color wheel might help you see the complexity of your pallette in a different way, by showing you how far the chosen colors are scattered around. So in summary, the idea is good but it has a currently unresolvable flaw.
Umm... He literally says "we have three parameters". We're working here with color, saturation, and brightness. What you're saying does not make much sense at all.
True thanks for pointing it out. He seems to be using the HSL (hue (not color), saturation, lightness) representation of the three dimensional color space which does indeed exhaust all possible colors. Hoever, while mathematically correct, there are issues with the intuition of this model that bother me. For example in this model, the color "chestnut" would be classified as a "less light less saturated red", which doesnt strike me as a good description. Furthermore he afterwards misuses the color wheel by reducing proximity of colors to proximity in hue solely.
I think this is a really ritual observation that does not effect the final product, remember that he’s using this to build in minecraft, this discrepancy pretty obviously doesn’t worsen the final product.

This is spliced together like a professional news infographic. Direct, informative and elegant. Congrats on your work!
you do a great job of being straight to the point and not floundering around too much. I could easily see a video like this hitting the 15-minute mark on another channel. I'll definitely be watching more of your videos lol.
I really like the way you used color theory in this video. It kind of further solidifies Minecraft as an art form, and also helps people who already know color theory work better, while also introducing the idea to players new to the concept
One of the few videos on UA-cam that are educational yet entertaining and simple.
Dude, that’s awesome. Absolutely love the editing, the text, just everything. Hope to see more from you in the future
This was very well put together, and I have to say your thick French accent really makes this nicer to watch. Also this will be EXTREMELY HELPFUL for my world. Lovely video.
One of the best tutorials I’ve found for houses, by a landslide. I can’t express how much this helped out and how well put and made the video was. Not to mention these houses are actually interesting and are refreshing to see compared to the standard houses with wood and cobble 💕
As a designer and artist myself, you literally explained the concept of color theory and it made me so happy that we can put such basic concept to anything from real life to minecraft and the things will always be impressive. Also great editing skills.
Much love
The production and editing in this video is actually insane. Such an enjoyable video to watch!
This video shows everything someone needs in order to use there imagination correctly and make builds look good. No shaders or telling you what you are doing wrong. Just plain facts and science. +1 sub.
As everyone already said, love the editing! Also greatly appreciate the added captions.
WOW. That editing was phenomenal, and the explanations were fantastic and very, very helpful. Thank you on behalf of everyone!
Oh my goodness, I've a found a chosen one. A new Grian has arrived onto the scene. And he's French and has a calm and endearing personality. That.....that is amazing. Truly remarkable. I love how you observe the palette and color distribution of Minecraft's block not just as, well, blocks but as color, like paint or mediums to define something, like a true artist. I admire that a lot. :)
Thank you! That's a really nice comment! 🙏
This! Building houses that just a few months ago I would've called insane, took me realizing that the colors of the block is what you see from a distance, not the texture! It was life-changing
