Thanks for not getting rid of the chow mein place. I live at the Palace across the street, and I pretty much eat there every day. I'm glad that there's a new bar in town because I keep getting kicked out of the Elbow Room. Well, not so much kicked out, but I'm behind on my bar tab. The bartender seems cool at the new joint, so hopefully, I won't wear out my welcome too quickly. Great job on the renovations, and thanks!
No prob! They are a vital business for the good citizens of Northbrook.
Haha love it ( now that’s a train set)
UA-cam randomly suggested this video. I'm glad it did. Reminds me of my childhood neighbourhood :)
My friend you never cease to amaze me
Incredible realness, workmanship is off the charts! Truly enjoyed watching your magic evolve on this great layout. Thanks for great vid!
watching this screwed up my algorithm. i don't build stuff like this nor am i into trains but i had to check this out. it's fantastic!
Hi, UA-cam randomly gave me your video. I haven’t made train layouts since childhood 40 years ago and it’s cool to see the innovations that are now being used, 3D printing, etc.! Very cool layout you’ve created!
There's almost something spiritual about the way you go about your build-bash. Can't imagine the patience it takes to create such art. Just starting to put together my first O scale building kits (no interiors) and I am definitely going to use the spackle mortar tactic v the acrylic wash technique that is recommended so often. Definitely will watch other videos for more tips.
I’m not sure why this channel arrived on my feed… but I’m
Glad it did
You, Sir... Are a Wizard!...
A WIZARD!!! 😮❤
Add me to the ranks of "UA-cam just brought me here" Your eye for detail is amazing. I can't believe how far the hobby has come. Kinda makes me wish I was 30 again and not 63. Only thing I would have done is having a couple making out upstairs! You have a new subscriber.
Outstanding work! Thank you Norm. Your attention to detail is fantastic, so is your description of everything you are doing to the model. You are a true master!
I bet I would end up at Elbow Room after being kicked out of Bessemer Bar. What a shame! Such a nice new joint!
I love it, I love it, I love it. Super high attention to detail.
my word, simply fantastic and realistic... I just found this channel by this video. That opening street scene reminds me of Troy & Watervliet, New York. Wow!! That yellow house with the chipped paint, wow, looks just like some of the older homes from that part of NY where I'm from. I can't get over how realistic everything looks. Even the mortar between the bricks, the roads & sidewalks is crazy realistic. That's some serious talent and attention to details.
The building to the right reminds me of an old Western Union office.
Beautiful work and nice concise video.
Thanks.... very informative. This is the first video of structure modeling I've seen, although slowing down the camerea would allow for more appreciation and enjoyment, it's fantastic.
It all looks very nice, there really is something about these small American towns.
Another beautiful piece in the layout. I always enjoy that you explain how you experiment with different ideas when you’re creating a new project. Thanks for sharing your talents.
I can really appreciate the amount of time invested in this project. I kitbashed a five story HO scale hotel and 3d printed an interior with lighting with both FDM PLA and UV resin prints. Trying to figure out where walls, stairwells, and rooms would be takes a lot of time and imagination. Custom designing furniture, printing and reprinting is labor intensive. Fantastic job.
Norm, this is, as usual, magnificent work and effort on your part! i just wondered HOW you were going to detail the bar, the bottles and the signage. I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVEN MAD! thank you, young man... i could submit your layout to art school and they, the deans of the college, would have immediately ggraduated you with honors as a doctor of superbly detailed model art! HUZZAHS! arthur b (ngai) ps/i am 76 and cannot for the very life of me figure out how you channeled those buildings, those rail side warehouses, etc. - ALL THAT AMBIENCE - from another time THAT YOU COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE SEEN AND WITNESSED, FELT OR SMELT !!! ASTONISHING! MAGNIFICENT... thank you.... a
Nice work Norm!! The Berties Bar building could be used as a cigar/ tobacco shop, gotta have a smoke with your Beer!!
😆😆😆😆😆😆
The buildings and streets look more real then the trains. My mind is absolutely blown. Looking for inconsistencies is like a next level where’s Waldo game. Just incredible!
Superb modelling, the atmosphere created by each building is awesome.
Beautiful work! Probably the most impressive realistic train layout I’ve ever seen!
Fantastic! As a Youngstown native, I'd feel right at home in that neighborhood, and the upstairs apartment would've suited me just fine during my student days especially with the watering hole right below me. 🙃
Norm, you take the hobby to another level! Thank you for taking us along for the ride. As always I was inspired , and learned a lot.
I just came across your channel this morning, and am very impressed. I have been in o scale trains for years and have a hanging layout above my shop out in the barn ( because sometimes I don't feel like working) and have 250 feet of track. I really like the 30's era you are doing. I am going to be starting a hydro electric dam here soon. I have a 3d printer like yours but am still learning it. Great job, and am looking forward to seeing more videos.
At first glance, I thought it was a real city, nice detailing
Fantastic Norm! I really enjoy your attention to detail and utilization of new technology to accomplish a realistic looking layout. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us!
Wow! This is incredible and beautiful!!!
So realistic!! This is the best I have ever seen!!
You need a cop walking the beat by your bar area, too. Well done. I love what you built there. I live in a rental house and can't build anything as permanent as your build, though I would love it.
Ridiculously good work
Looks great! Great step by step video.
Well I'm in Awe. Awesome artwork. I have always wanted to construct a scale town.
Your a very talented man my friend, this is bloody amazing 👍🏻🇦🇺
Great vid Norm!👌😃 You nailed it... it doesn't have to be totally realistic as long as it is believable to the viewer. That's the leeway given to us for creating our dioramas. Again great vid Norm look forward to more.👍🏻😀
Genius work. Absolutely terrific. Must have taken hours. Thank you You tube for directing me to this. New sub. Look forward to your future projects.
The out side elevator ,is a nice touch, , I remember them!
My first time watching, awesome work
Always enjoy every minute of your videos. Another job well done. Always going the extra mile. 👍🏼
Damn Norm!! You are a freakin WIZZARD!! Really good to see a great craftsman at work.
Little resemblance to downtown New Bedford if I might say.
Nice video norm, I’m always amazed at how much detail you put into your layout it’s awesome. Keep up the good work.
Make sure the toilet reflects what one would look like at a dive bar! Thanks for another great video-I aspire to reach your level of modeling skill!
Without the odor that every dive joint has !
Very strongly reminds me of Williamsburg Brooklyn, when I was a kid. 60 years ago.
Sorry for leaving another comment Norm but this just hit me and I wanted to share it with you. The final shot of the bar in this video reminded me of the outside shots of the diner where Robert Redfords character meets the waitress in the movie The Sting. Again, fantastic job 👍.
Those are some amazing buildings you have there.
first time watching ur video. amazing job! watched from beginning to end 🥰
Amazing job!
The only complain will be to put a warmer lights in the tavern
This really looks great Norm. Great detail.
Your layout ,Well you are the Master!
Relocating that sreeetlight more centrally to the building front was the logical move. In its initial location it made the alley light superfluous. Now the alley light has a clear purpose.
Excellent work!
Not sure why but I have always loved this era.
In the late '60's into the '70's my two older brothers had a HO set, with a HO slot car set, together. I remember the gas station had fuel price of $.27.9, leaded. We ran the race track mostly, but making the layout look realistic was always difficult. Grass came on a roll like wrapping paper, and usually fell off as soon as you got it out of the plastic. Now with 3D printing, it is incredible what detail a person can do. I keep wondering how many hours you put into a building, like the bar. In my home town, there's a bar called the Elbow Room. It's been there for 90 years, but some Millennials bought it now, and destroyed all it's character. But I digress. Your buildings look so much better than those you can buy, like the Snow Village, that were popular years ago. Great job! I also like the realism of the "John" negotiating with the hooker outside the bar.
Wonderful , You have a really great talent . Sure enjoyed your video . Some blinds and/or curtains in the upstairs apartment and a street number in the front door glass above door would help make the building pop a bit more . But it is wonderful the way it is . Keep up the great work . makes this "OLD" man want to do more with my small N scale layout .
Great job! Best I’ve seen.
What a great presentation with so much skill and creativity as you walked us through this amazing project! Thank you! So impressive with a great texture and feel to the town.
That's absolutely phenomenal!
At 53:15, your motorcyclist is gonna get a ticket driving around with a broken head lamp. Just kidding. That shot is truly something and even your new bar already looks smoky inside.
look fantastic. Bravo, cheers from France😃
Great Layout! Greetings from Italy 👍
My first look at your channel too and I am impressed. I particularly liked your 3D printed inserts and details because I think it is the way of the future and have purchased an FDM plus a resin printer of my own. I'm also tossing up making my own buildings, or at least some of them, using a laser cutter.
Another great video Norm!!
Wow! The biggest smile yet this year gazing at the interior! Please sell the 3D interior details!!! Your work is brilliantly awesome!
As always, Norm, fantastic work and actually, I like that you’re not sponsored. As much as I enjoy some of the other UA-camrs out there they’ve all become a giant commercial for Trainz
Excellent! Your modeling skills along with your attention to detail is amazing to say the least. Your 3D printer along with the CAD program really gives you an advantage when it comes to detailing. I've built several of the Ameri-Towne O scale structures and they tend to present well and can be expanded in sort of a modular fashion if desired. Thanks for the detailed video showing us how you accomplished everything.
Just incredible! I love the details, the cat on the bed, the mirror, the skylight, and the lighting is perfect. Hard work, but worth it.
Thank you as always for an incredible and inspiring video of working on the layout. Please continue "rambling" on.
I've seen a building like the one that you're modelling, and the stairs are enclosed and lead from the back door, and then curve round to the back wall, and lead to the domicile above, which was usually a flat and office. And the bar is open and can only be accessed via the front door. the stairs are a private area that the bar owner had access to via a doorway at the bars end. The backdoor usually led to a yard for storage that had a fence enclosing it, In the UK, we had many shops and local pubs that had the same kind of layout. They were mainly houses that were built during the early to mid Victorian period and were converted during construction into corner shops, pubs or the like. You can see the same thing in New York and Chicago, these were your local shops.
During the course of this project I got the opportunity to go and goof off for a week in Hammersmith. I got to visit many fine pubs all around London and it definitely gave me a lot of inspiration for this build. I meant to put in a bunch of photos I took on the trip but this video was already getting too long.
I have to say, I just found your channel. This is such a great channel. Nice work man. I could watch you do this for hours.
Amazing craftsmanship there, loved following the build. Also was taken in by your narrative and thought processes about your layout. What's cool is that this will always be a work in progress :) Subbed for you!
WOW......Very nice.....the rug in the 2nd floor is a nice touch.....
Nice work, Norm. In a city like San Diego, an apartment that size would go for $3,000 a month . . . plus a $500 non-refundable deposit for the cat. But look at all the character you provided!
Looks Fantastic, hats off to you !!!
This is absolutely amazing! I was just introduced to miniatures in the past few days when deciding I want to build a dollhouse. My research led me to the world of miniatures. This world is so amazing! Love what you are doing!
You did an awesome job on this building
Thanks man!
Love this video. Great detail.
Like magic wow , wonderful work !
Beautiful and thoughtful craftsmanship! May I make a suggestion? Use some Mylar applied onto a thin sheet of styrene to make a mirror back for your mug/liquor racks.
Great job and great vision 👏
Once you added the bar keep, first thing that came to mind was the owner of the diner from the movie 'Batteries not included'
The weathering detail and everything else is just smashing! 🇬🇧
You got a sickness man.
That’s just sick lookin! 😂 ❤👍🏻
Some of the finest work I've seen. Great job!
Looks awesome 👌 👏 👍
Very interesting hobby. Thank you.
I enjoyed that. Nice work
Exceptional work once again, Norm! You continue to blow our minds with the level of detail you put in. Absolutely incredible video! - Ryan
Great layout, I had an HO scale layout on a ping pong table and a half but it was difficult to detail the center of the table, I was going to build a mountain out of plaster in the center of the table with track running around it, I had to take it down and box everything up make more room. I am planning on building a new layout on a L or U shaped table now that it is winter, I must have a couple hundred feet of track, 20 different engines and 80 freight and passenger cars along with dozens of HO structures.
Looks super cool man. Love it.
Norm, I think Northbrook may be a train town with a drinking problem, or drinking town with a train problem.
Also, I love your work, I don't think I've ever seen better.
Brilliant! 👍👍
I think a small blinking neon sign either on a building roof or along a street might look good. Miller engineering has some great signs.
Holy crud! This is God level detail!! Very realistic.
Very nice, Norm! The detail is so good, it makes me want to step inside for ice cold Beer!
"The Bessemer Bar, serving Iron City Beer on tap."
Norm, hands down this is one of the best videos on how to accessorize a building I am just getting into the train hobby I been watching a lot of videos but not like yours. I love the talent that you have by making your own 3D printing. I am trying to do a New York Subway layout O scale and the challenge that I am having is with accessories like Subway entrance, light poles, signage, billboards.
I love your technic on weathering the building by adding the clear cote before you do the mortar.
Oh don't start me on even smaller! This looks brilliant! I am already down to 1:18th scale as I can get people and horses and make the rest of my usually medieval scenes. I could see myself getting seriously into 1:48th, especially if the kits are available for the buildings. I would go with the external stairs, I think it fits the period and would help in that they don't have to go through the bar to enter and exit, even if the apartment came with the bar, so to speak, I think external stairs are definitely preferable. If you think that they would have to use the bar keys every time they go in and out, it wouldn't really be feasible, even to the proprietor. I love this model btw, I am already thinking how to do it up, inside and out! I just had to subscribe, told you, hooked already!
Brilliant build, the interior method you used was genius.
Oh my goodness! I love your skills and creativity. Where do you get the accessories? I don't own a 3D machine, so I make what I can by hand. I'm in love with the apartment you created on the second floor!! ❤
That is amazing!!!
Your buildings and details are amazing to look at..Such a beautiful place..thanks for sharing…
