I made a railway diorama once but it's absolutely nothing compared too this yours is absolutely spectacular and makes me want too continue too improve my skills too learn how too make something as amazing as this
Thank you, that’s very kind 😊. Keep up the modelling! I think we’re all very critical of our own work but if you enjoy it, you should do as much as you can 👍🏻
Hey there, first off absolutely amazing. I just found your channel last night and I just finished watching every video you’ve done on here. Wow, fantastic. I’m in the USA on the west coast and at 62 years young I am starting my first O scale layout it about 17x12x15x12 and will be my first large scale adventure. I will be using your videos as I go. Your stone work is top notch. I lived in a stone home back east and to this day I miss it. I’ll be doing some of those techniques for certain. Now, onto some of the lesser kind comments, I could just say screw ‘em, and I do to a point, but being optimistic I’d like to think they are offering constructive criticism but I suspect you could provide them with better suggestions than they have offered. Don’t let those comments deter you man, you are absolutely amazing in what you do. Some of the older guys have fixed ideas and just don’t want to do things differently. Keep up the good work. So awesome to see what you do and I can’t wait to see more. I have to agree with one comment and your reply, Jason of Jason Jensen Trains is also fantastic. I’ve used many of his techniques on building kits with amazing results. He’s also quite helpful when you have a question as well. Alright my friend, have a great week. Cheers! Tim
Hi Tim. Thank you so much for this incredibly kind comment. I look forward to seeing your progress - will you be posting videos on your UA-cam channel or elsewhere?
Great video and tutorial of this diorama! I'm amazed of your talent with doing this. Everything just fell in place and if you were to take a photo of it people would sware it's the real thing! Thanks again for sharing your videos with us along with your time and effort! I definitely enjoy your videos back here in the 1st state of DELAWARE which is on the East Coast of the U.S
Terrific job. I love the way you've woven in a story and how you stage the still shots at the end. Look forward to seeing a follow up video which you eluded to in your commentry. Thank you.
I definitely wouldn't have put the white glow around the reaper, it really did spoil it. But the diorama overall was really impressive and the Beeching report was inspired. I especially liked the copper considering the accuracy of the Beeching graffiti.
Thanks Jeff. It may have struggled to stand out without the white which I suppose is why it's used quite often in graffiti. Like so many of these things, I think you can always do a better job the second time so I would definitely change lots of things on this diorama.
Nice model. Just a light hearted comment...as a collector of those old metal advertising signs I reckon they'd have been stolen a long time ago as they are seriously valuable now.
@@DartsideScenics I like those wall advertising murals you see fading away over time. I live in France and you see them often on the sides of buildings. I really like your work very much. superb work of course, but what I really enjoyed about this isn't so much some adherence to prototypical accuracy (as we're all aware this particular diorama would've been about 24' long just to portray a short siding!) but it's more about modeling as an art form: you appreciate it for its depiction of a scenario as a model, which is what it should be. I bring this up as I was thinking coach couplings. but then I thought who cares? it's a hornby model. we know it's a hornby model. the whole diorama is a model, and a superb example of modeling skill. still a couple of feet long model though... and that's a good thing. really enjoyable video btw, almost therapeutic, with a well chosen soundtrack.
Simply amazing. You have a wonderful clear way of speaking and your diction is wonderful. The amount of detail that you put into your work is outstanding. I would love to know what camera you use for your filming and what video editing software that you use. I had to have a little smile to myself as it seems that you are able to buy a lot of the powders, sprays etc to complete the model. You also are able to buy a lot of the things that put it all together. I am afraid that I am a british pensioner so have to come up with alternative solutions to many of the things that you can afford to purchase. For my fencing I use pins and net purchased very cheaply. It works for me. I hope to be able to show some more of my work on my channel in the near future. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much. I just use my iPhone for filming (at 60fps) and edit the footage in Final Cut Pro (with some sections edited in Motion). I'm fortunate that I can buy the products with my UA-cam channel earnings, otherwise I couldn't afford to do it. I hope you do show some work on your channel soon.
Nice so far, needs to do more work on the carriage, like broken windows and graffiti on the carriage sides, need to do an update on what else you added?
Thanks Nigel. Yes, it does need a lot more work but I haven't had any time since last week. Hopefully I'll carry on with it next week and do an update.
I really like this video! I am collecting tips and tricks on abandoned line modeling. (Materials and applications, etc.) Aside from your track looking like it just had the tamper down it to straighten the rails perfectly, it is well done! But little details like that are probably not noticed by many. On most of the lines I have seen where they have been abandoned for ages, the vegetation seems to take over because no one wants to mow or weed spray a disused line. If you were to have used a taller grass or shrub, what would you recommend for the materials on that application? Thanks again for sharing!
Thanks Jason. I often think about revisiting this and other dioramas to sort out some of the things I wasn’t happy with. I would probably use more 6mm dead grass and create some brambles using rubberised horsehair and noch leaves.
@@DartsideScenics I cannot wait to try my hand at an abandoned branchline or spur. I will certainly lay credit on your channel for inspiring me with some of the ideas! Having worked for the railroad for 21 years and seen my fair share of abandoned spurs, I have specific details I want to exhibit in my diorama. I just hope I can accomplish them like you've done in yours!
Wow, that looks excellent. Can I just ask about your static grassing technique - what are you doing with the alligator clip? Is that not supposed to be clipped onto a pin stuck into the surface? You seem to be just holding it in the air, or am I missing something? Thanks.
Thanks Dave. I ran out of time due to the competition but have since sprayed the roof to allow peeling and blistering effects. I found the technique on The Scrap Line which is a fantastic channel and well worth a look.
I have photos of two cars in Florida that were abandoned and the line dismantled right up to their wheels on either side. One was the General Hulan, a railroad business car and the other was a deluxe sleeper and club car. Both sat behind a paper recycling center on their track for about 15 years before the railroad chopped them up for scrap. It was a sad situation to witness but with the tracks gone, there was no moving those old cars anymore.
Sleeper spacing is wrong and the placement of adverts doesn’t make sense if it’s a yard rather than station why would the be there? Even if it is a station the adverts would be placed rather than scattered and most likely they would be on the fence railings. I’d also remove the coach couplings. Other than those nit picks all looks good 👍🏻
Thanks Martyn. Yes, the coupling hooks have been removed and I’m trying to add some more details to get it finished. I hope to post more photos on my UA-cam Community page soon.
@@DartsideScenics The scene looks amazing. I wanted to make a diorama showing older steam engines being dismantled. Take that idea if you want. If I get around to do it, it will be for my own amusement.
Never understood why people go to such lengths with weathering and rust effects...and then leave out the basics. Where's the garbage on the ground?....why is a chain link fence Lazer straight?..no weeds in that grass?...those lamps still have glass?..no sticks or rocks? All this takes away from the "abandoned" look.
Sorry you didn't like it. You probably didn't see the part of the video where I mentioned that I ran out of time and will need to add more details at a later date. I also said I'm hopeful to improve on new techniques the next time I use them. I could offer some answers to your points but if what I do is not to your taste, there would be little point in going over it.
