Anchorage guy here. I worked with a retired corrections guy who had been a guard at the prison that Hansen was held at (he didn't say when, so I'm not sure if this is when Hansen was at Spring Creek or later on when he was transferred to Anchorage). You can imagine that as a guy who worked in corrections for decades, he was a treasure trove of stories, as many old folks are. He would talk about how Hansen was a good guy to around because he was always very polite and respectful, and was a model prisoner. Because the other inmates had some kind of bizarre respect for the guy, they would listen to him. My coworker would comment on how this little old frail guy just casually kept the others in line. That says something about prison, I guess. The little guy was in there for kidnapping women and hunting them with a rifle. I wouldn't exactly call a person who did that tough but I guess it is the ruthlessness they respect? Or just the body count? I can only speculate. My coworker was a guard for decades and he said he didn't get it either, just something about prison culture. On a different note, the guys that were around back then would tell me that his pastries were very good and his bakery was a popular one.

Man do I love this channel! I've also started listening to it on my drives in podcast form. Thank you Dr. Grande for the consistently wonderful content. :)
I read a book written by a wildlife guide and photographer who lived in Alaska. The book was mainly about his life in the nature and his friendship with another wildlife photographer and about their photo-hunt for a blue bear, a rare type of grizzly bear with unusual bluish hair. But at some point it went really dark. The author´s girlfriend was one of Hansen´s victims.
Have you done Dennis Nilsen? There is a drama showing in the UK right now, starring David Tennant in the main role. He was a very interesting character and there is quite a bit of footage of him that you could look at. He was never diagnosed with anything. Book called 'Killing for Company' was written about him. He was a Scot who killed 15 young men in London in the 70s/80s.
@@SlothinAintEasy 3 part drama, showing on ITV, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week (eg, final part last night). Tennant excellent as usual, has Nilsen down to a T. It's called "Des".
Jonny Lumberjack He was also a trade unionist and member of the SWP, as well as the civil servant. Quite a few addicted murderers work in the public sector, for some reason.
Yeah extremely sad and creepy. There was a movie that I believe was based on him called 10 Rillington Place, starring Richard Attenborough. One of the more sad and most psychologically repulsive movies I've ever seen.
He lived on a side Street near the Fred Meyer on the corner of Muldoon and DeBarr. He lived on Old Harbor Road. His wife taught kids with learning disabilities. The business he owned (a bakery) is now in the area of the soup kitchens and homeless camps. He kept his plane at the Merrill Airport next to what is now Alaska Regional Medical Center. It looked like any other home from the outside. I live about a mile from what was the house and I walked to the Fred Meyer near it (Creekside Center). Anyway, the points Dr Grande makes about Hanson were what the guy from the FBI Behavioral Science Division ,Roy Hazelwood described. Hazelwood told officer Glenn Frothe "Don't tell me about the guy, tell me more about the crime scenes and I will tell YOU about the guy". Hazelwood told police what traits to look for and he had been spot on. Hanson had also been a volunteer firefighter and burned down one of his own businesses and then showed up to fight the fire as if nothing happened. Then again, people in Anchorage are different than in the towns and villages. You stay to yourself and don't really know your neighbors. You don't need to know your neighbors, not like in a village.
Another weird coincidence - my husband and I just watched the movie “The Frozen Ground”, about him. It’s like Dr. Grande can predict what we will watch or discuss within the next few days!
kudos to that truck driver for stopping. Many people choose not to get involved in what seems to be a dangerous situation. If he hadn't picked her up and she hadn't been brave enough to go to the police, Hanson would most certainly have continued with his horrific hunting trips. I can't even imagine how scared those poor women must have been. Another fascinating insight Dr Grande.
Frances Bernard here. Dr. Grande I would sure feel a lot more confident about dating anyone ever again instead of only enjoying friendships now that I am over age 60 if there was some sure way to tell who is who when it comes to serial killers and already married men.
Thank you for analyzing this case. I grew up in Anchorage and have been fascinated by it since childhood. My mother and I have visited and left flowers at the grave of Hansen's unknown victim, known as Eklutna Annie, several times over the years. She's believed to have been killed by him in late 1979 to spring 1980, and to this day she's still unidentified. NCMEC has released an updated reconstruction of what she may have looked like just this summer.
At 500.000 subs I would REALLY like to se Dr. Todd Grande make an exception to the rule to only speculate and never diagnose. Please let Dr. Todd Grande diagnose Mr. Todd Grande . It would be an absolute groundbreaking event!
Thank you so much for this content; whenever I find myself in need of a refreshing video that is also educational, I turn to your stuff. Better than a lot of the popular stuff out there like makeup drama and such like that (shudders)
Can you please do a video on Charles Allbright. I'd love to see an analysis of his childhood. He had an obsession with eyes & took his victims eyes as trophies. Also Jerry Brudos, he kept severed feet as trophies. Thank you. Love your channel.
Egads! I vacationed in Anchorage, Alaska and camped and fished for king salmon in 1979. We camped in the wilderness somewhere in the Kenai Peninsula and none of us had weapons. Not sure whether Hansen was in or out of prison then. It was so easy to see nothing but moose, bears, bald eagles and dall sheep for 50+ miles or more. He'd have had little trouble continuing his heinous crimes, especially with a plane.
I had a friend that was diagnosed with paranoid bipolar disorder, and she had some serious delusions for periods of time, including grandiosity. I love Dr. Grande because he's so methodical in his evaluations, I feel his "diagnoses" are as reproducible as any chemistry experiment.
Thanks, Dr. G., for analyzing Robert Hanson. He's interested me for a long time, because he just didn't seem like a serial killer. Your analysis helped. I, too, think he likely had schizoid.

Thanks. I wasn't sure I'd remembered the right movie.
@@ua2381 You are so welcome!
@14:10 "I'm not sure what a typical serial killer looks like, do they have a secret handshake?" LOL!! Dr Grande has THE BEST dry sense of humor out there!! Lol!! (Still hoping for the Sophie Long video one day soon!!) Thanks again r Grande!
Oh Dr. Grande....."Why would any spouse be concerned about that behavior?" I'm sorry. This is a horrible case but that comment had me in stitches....Why indeed? Priceless.
Literally got recommended 3 docs about this guy, then a day later Dr. Grande comes out with some original content w/ info I haven't heard about this guy.
Liked as always!
Interesting you mentioned the FBI. John Douglas, former head of the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit, covered this in his book "Mind Hunter" in a chapter called "The Most Dangerous Game". He also covered several of the other cases you profiled. I would love to see you profile his work as a senior criminologist.
Yes a new Dr Grande vid!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE analyse the major Star Wars and Star Trek characters from the original productions. Love you, thank you for this channel. You’re helping my depression soooooooo much.
I've got to admit that his high school record with girls isn't that different from mine. Where we differ is that the experience made me write tortured teen poetry about my love interests, not think about torturing them
You didn’t read them the poetry, did you?
I love your videos! They're so interesting! I have a request. Can you analyze the mental health and personality factors surrounding the case of Katherine Knight, the Australian woman who murdered her partner back in the early 2000s? That crime was horrifying! 🤯
Thanks Dr. Grande. How about American Sniper, Chris Kyle & his killer?
may take months. i requested sirhan sirhan months ago.
Yes that would be interesting. It takes months because the research and prep takes a long time.
Might be controversial if he gets into the Jesse Ventura debacle.
Great suggestion, would love to second on you with that one 🙏✌
Victors not the murderers...
Zachary Moses Why would it be controversial? I thought it was common knowledge that Kyle was a liar. He slandered Ventura.
Very good, I like frozen ground because the movie had photos of his victims at the end, seeing thire smileing faces hit hard.
What about the candlestick maker? Cant believe u missed that one Dr grande! 😂😁
Tennant huh? Id have to look that up. Thanks
Yes! I'd love if Dr. Grande covered this!! :)
Yeah extremely sad and creepy. There was a movie that I believe was based on him called 10 Rillington Place, starring Richard Attenborough. One of the more sad and most psychologically repulsive movies I've ever seen.
I was glued to this video from start to finish - you communicate very concisely whilst still being engaging. I appreciate that.
A movie was made about this guy... It’s called “The Frozen Ground”, staring Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Hudgens. On Netflix right now...enjoy!
Nice eye
@@MrDotR Thank you!
Good to know! Thanks
Anybody else suprised that Dr. G did not include a "this is not the espionage Robert Hansen" disclaimer?
When the discussion of Factor 1 and 2 psychopathy began, i became a true fan! great work
He lived on a side Street near the Fred Meyer on the corner of Muldoon and DeBarr.
7:12 Do I sense a bit of skepticism around FBI personality profiles?
Oliver Quach I felt there was a little shade there, too.
You're my new You Tube binge. Great stuff!
Another comprehensive and engaging video by Dr. Grande! The mental health segment was particularly interesting. As always, many thanks!
Hey Grande! I like the cut of your jib. Your stealthy dry humor slays me more often than one might think. Subbed.
Frances Bernard here. Dr. Grande I would sure feel a lot more confident about dating anyone ever again instead of only enjoying friendships now that I am over age 60 if there was some sure way to tell who is who when it comes to serial killers and already married men.
I just admire the determination, Grande has a hell of a work ethic. Kudos, doc!
Thank you Dr. Grande for another fantastic video, I really enjoy them.
the girl who got away is a badasss, i cant imagine the fear that must've been going through her
Hi Dr. Grande, I think an analysis of Ottis Toole would be interesting. The man who murdered John Walsh's son.
He did that one.
Oh..😳
Thank you for analyzing this case. I grew up in Anchorage and have been fascinated by it since childhood. My mother and I have visited and left flowers at the grave of Hansen's unknown victim, known as Eklutna Annie, several times over the years. She's believed to have been killed by him in late 1979 to spring 1980, and to this day she's still unidentified. NCMEC has released an updated reconstruction of what she may have looked like just this summer.
Dr. Grande, you’re on fire today!
At 500.000 subs I would REALLY like to se Dr. Todd Grande make an exception to the rule to only speculate and never diagnose.
Please let Dr. Todd Grande diagnose Mr. Todd Grande . It would be an absolute groundbreaking event!
Now I'm wondering what a serial killer's special jacket would look like! :D LOL
This is so ironical, Dr Grande. The ads that pop up for me (in South Africa) are for Tony Robbins.
Brooo Dr. Todd’s dry sense of humor has me weak 😂😂💀💀 “do they wear a special jacket?” 💀💀💀💀
I had a friend that was diagnosed with paranoid bipolar disorder, and she had some serious delusions for periods of time, including grandiosity. I love Dr. Grande because he's so methodical in his evaluations, I feel his "diagnoses" are as reproducible as any chemistry experiment.
Super difficult sounding situation....
Terrible outcome.......
Amazing video as always, you do your research.🌻
Could you do video on Dennis Nilsen? Thank you.
Congrats Dr.G on almost 600K subs. I guarantee you will get there. Excellent channel.I watch it every day.
Once again very very interesting well-thought-out video
His wife took marriage commitment to another level! 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for the video Dr. Grande, they are always interesting and entertaining. ❤️
Excellent subject! Netflix has On Frozen Ground !
Late again but I am here! Thanks Dr. Grande 🌞
Thanks, Dr. G., for analyzing Robert Hanson. He's interested me for a long time, because he just didn't seem like a serial killer. Your analysis helped. I, too, think he likely had schizoid.
Dr Grande posts a video. I like it automatically.
I would love to hear your take on the David Crowley case. Many conspiracy theories surround the death of his family and his relationship to the killings. The case was deemed a murder/suicide, but there are so many unanswered questions. It would be great to hear a scientifically informed analysis on the matter.
Dr Grande you sure make me chuckle at times with your wit, I think you should make a video of humourous outtakes (depending on the person though) because I and many like me would purchase a dvd 📀 of you laughing. It would also show that mental health professionals are very real people not some programmed robot. It may help people that need professional help but are to scared to reach out, my G. P. Wanted me to talk to mental health professionals for 20+ years before I did take the plunge.
Thank you for your choice of career Sir.
14:08 Do Serial killers have a certain look or wear a special jacket? umm, Yes, They have a leather jacket made out of human skin.
Ed Gein
Could you talk about Vincent Van Gogh? Thank you!
I think, special jacketts should me mandatory for serial killers.
Alexander Meneikis ...or a vest with logo like Walmart employees?
@@inahandbasket288 Yes. It should clearly read "Serial Killers Inc."
"Do serial killers have a certain look...secret handshake or wear a special jacket?" LOL!! Love your dry sense of humor (British humor).
Dr. Grande, Is this serial killer week⁉️I live for your series of analysis. I find them oddly soothing 🥴😳and ALWAYS intriguing and informative. Keep up the great unbiased, scientifically informed work!
What was the photo of Joseph Paul Franklin doin up there? Was that a blooper? 😄 I forgive you. Thank you Dr Grande. 👍🌹
Hey Doc !! Another great video as always!! I am curious about generally your life and I think many would be! I mean how do you prepare your talks .. how do you do all these videos and work at your practice same time .. you must be soooo busyyyy .... do you have a family ... things like that ... Of course it is up to you if you wanna make a video about that .. :) cheers ..
Yeah but look at the candlestick maker..it's always who you least expect.
I'd be leery of someone who carries a candlestick around. I'd avoid being alone with him in the billiard room.
OOOHhhh settling down for a creepy video, Doc, wow the "BUTCHER BAKER" sounds fairly ominous. 🙃
I knew a widow who had known her husband cheated on her. She didn’t know if he ever loved her. She was happy with their children, and happy that he loved his children. It suited her beliefs that she had only been with one man, she was faithful, and loved him. If she had ever challenged him, I don’t think she’d have the same pride about herself.
I grew up in Anchorage, and am the same age as Hansen's younger victims. I think we visited his bakery a couple of times. I remember hearing reports of women being found dead all of the time, crazy times.
Dr G, truly how does a serial killer supposed to look like😂? Good analysis again!!
This one is soo well analysed, impeccable♥️ and leaves room for the speculating.
And I love your steadfast, true blue ethical approach in Every human beings equal Worth on this earth.
♥️♥️♥️
Dr Grande, once again you are reading my mind, I watched this case not long ago. Thank you so much.
Thank you Dr. Grande for another well thought out analysis. I really look forward to your videos.
I would love to see a video about attachment styles and their symptoms in an adult relationship.
Dr grande needs to design the serial killer jacket
