CrossFit Open Workout 24.3 1st Attempt

- Ouch...I'm not sure why, but my legs felt heavy. The only thing I can thing of is residual effects from multiple 24.2 attempts. Every time I landed off the rig, my legs felt like they were locking up. Could be from the tweak in my back, I'm not sure. We also had an quality air control in effect where I live due to the pollen and the gym doors were open today. Long story short, that hurt...it shouldn't have hurt as particularly bad as it did. I'm fairly competent at each of the movements and weight. At the end of the day, I was reserved and I stuck with my sets. I did unbroken barbell all the way through. Chest to Bar I broke up into sets of 6 and 4. Bar Muscle Ups I broke into sets of 4 and 3. I went as soon as it was announced and figured the elite would go sub 11. This one I would recommend warming up even more than normal. Arms, legs are just wrecked after this attempt. For Time, 5 rounds of 10 Thrusters 95lb, 10 chest to Bar Pull-Ups. Rest 1 minute, then 5 rounds of 7 Thrusters 135lb, 7 Bar Muscle Ups. Time Cap 15 Minutes, finished Cap+5.
Solid work dude! Thanks for posting
Yea man! I appreciate it! Hope it helps!
Great Job man!!! I appreciate the post. If you’re open to feedback, I’d encourage you to practice coming down from your BMU and relaxing into a nice arch position before kipping back to the top of your BMU. I think it will save you SO MUCH ENERGY. C2B were gorgeous. I’ll take my turn with this workout today around 5
Thanks for that and always open to criticism. I have tried that way before, my method is just kind of stuck unfortunately. I appreciate your comment all around. Let me know how it goes! Best of luck!
No criticism I promise! Just wanted to see you finish and wondered if that would have done the trick. I snuck in at 14:30 myself. Forearms were pretty toasty. Have a great weekend!
@bignoknow Nice job! That'll be my target time on my next attempt. Body is still recovering from first go around. You do the same! Thanks for the support and letting me know!
You can finish this workout within the time cap Chris! 2nd attempt! Come on!!!!
That's the gameplan. Thursday felt off, but the 2nd Attempt is the gameplan. Been recovering ever since. Thanks for the encouragement and I'll be posting my 2nd Attempt tomorrow sometime.
Thanks for being bold enough to post this early. I just finished it as well. I was in my 4th round of thrusters. This workout is a punch to the face for sure! I may have paced the first half a little too much. When I redo I plan to buy myself more time for the second half cause it’s no joke
Yea, I always do the first attempt right out the gate to hopefully help others. Doesn't hurt I get a decent amount of views in the process. That'd a solid score! I concur, I think I'll need to bank some more time on my second attempt to fend off the second half. I appreciate the support!
Hi Chris ! Insane job again, so cool to see you perform like that
Hey there! I appreciate that! I was hopeful for a finish, but understand why I did not. Hope it helped you game plan! Thank you for your support!
Wow amazing. You should be so proud of yourself you did outstanding!!
Thanks for that! I appreciate you continuing to support me each week!
Outstanding Sir
I appreciate it and your continued support!
Great job Chris!! The air quality was brutal today!!
Yea, it did not help at all. Hopefully this morning is better!
awesome! thx man to upload video. That will be very helpful!
Sweet! That's what I like to hear! That's why I do it when I do. Give everyone a good realistic perspective. I appreciate the support!
you are strong. Well done Mr Didyoung.
I really appreciate that. I'm still a work in progress as the sport is as well. Thank you for your support!
Really well done. Most of the community won’t be able to get one round of mups in, so this is insanely impressive.
Thanks for that, I'm thinking this score will be good for about 95% of submitted scores, so maybe a tad higher overall. I'm gonna be doing some recovery for my next go. Hope it helped game plan!
Congrats
Thank you!
you're a beast! so impressive!
I appreciate it! Today was an off day for me. Thanks for the support!
@@christopherdidyoung7442 couldn’t tell from watching you haha. I’m hitting the workout later today too, extremely motivating to watch your videos 💪🏼
@Brooks.Journey_To Thank you for that. That really means a lot. I hope my video helped with your game plan. Best of luck, and keep me posted!
First attempt, only got to second round thrusters and 2 MU's. The Chest to Bars killed my MU movement. Doing it again Monday!@@christopherdidyoung7442
Good stuff. Next attempt you can finish it without a doubt!
Absolutely! Hoping to not only do that but shave down a decent amount of time. I appreciate your support!
Lets go! just gave it a go and got my first Bar muscle up in an open!@@christopherdidyoung7442
Good dude for posting early 🫡
I appreciate that, it's just my first attempt at it which is usually my worst. Hope it helped!
Nice bro from South Korea
Far out! Thanks for tuning in. Hope it helps you over there! I appreciate the support!
Fantastic job Chris crazy impressive
Thank you! Not my best work, but I did what I could at launch. I appreciate your support! When do you plan to go?
Just went this morning! Got 5 BMU in the 3rd round
@joshurban3933 That's awesome! That's farther than my training partners got this morning. Any plans to redo?
Thanks bro! We will see… My quads are very full and sore already.
My goal is top 10% worldwide, (I was top 15% last year) so I might redo if that would Make a difference
@@joshurban3933 Yea, the body really swelled up after this one. That's a good goal! I'm hoping to finally get top 1%. We shall see how the leaderboard continues to shake out.
It looks like everyone, even the elites, are coming out hot on this one. 85 pulls on the rig coupled with a movement that just sucks the air out your lungs is brutal!
Also strong work man!
Yea, I paced it about how I wanted to. Yes, I think the first 5 rounds is the trap, that or the 1 minute rest.
@tim470marshall Thanks for that, not my best...but that's what 1st attempts are for. To learn and help others. I appreciate it!
Nice work bro! I’d say that Dave programmed this well in the sense that a lot of “RX” athletes will get to this point, being so close to finishing, that it will leave us wanting more!! Did you plan your rest periods at :30 seconds on purpose or was that natural? Btw this video seriously helped me understand what to expect as I am a very similar athlete.
Thanks for that! The entire reason I do this is hopefully to help others get an appropriate gauge. That was a natural rest/chalk break. I definitely am wanting more and feel like you're spot on with how the athletes will fair. Let me know how it goes!
Nice work man! Do you feel like you came out too hot, or are you happy with your pacing??
So I actually paced how I planned for the most part. I was definitely not primed today as I mentioned in my caption. Not sure why, when I redo, I'll probably do about the same on the first part. Maybe a tad faster and then hold onto a set of BMU in the beginning. I appreciate the support, when do you go?
man noah olsen is a beast
Yea, I've seen his Fran. So I'm sure he crushed this one as well.
You did amazing and that’s why I’m saying Noah Olsen is a beast for finishing as fast as he did
@@michaelmooner Thanks for that! I appreciate you saying that. Yea, this workout will be a big separator from the elite to normies.
Damn that was good man.
Not looking forward to doing this one.
I appreciate it. Not my best day. Hoping for a better 2nd Attempt. When do you give it a go?
Do you always go right at it once it’s announced? Good job!
Great question and that's correct. So as soon as they announce the workout, I then warm up targeting the wod. So today I started around 3:15. It also helps me post to help others. So, I'm kind of a guinea pig so to speak. Thanks for the support and noticing!
Nice. I got 144 reps. Got 9:33 on .1 and 723 on .2. I really want to get 9 rounds on .3. I don’t feel like it was crazy muscular fatigue which I expected, it was more shock to the system and mental toughness to pick up the bar/jump back up. I did same splits as you, just took too long of transitions.
Those are some solid scores. That's definitely achievable on a redo! Yea, it was an odd workout and how it effected me as well. When do you plan to redo?
@@christopherdidyoung7442 Thanks! Appreciate watching your videos. I should have watched before I went today! I’m gonna go again on Sunday or Monday. I ripped on both hands even using grips. So whenever those heal up. Gonna stick to the same splits, just pick up bar a few seconds faster each time and hang on for 9.
@ShelbyDThomas Well, I'll be doing the same for the quarterfinals as well. May be doing the second attempt prior, so be on the lookout. I'd get that wod tape that covers those hands...it's not much but I'll hurt a little less. Keep me posted!
@@christopherdidyoung7442 Went again and got 151. Did 4,3,3 on CTB and saved the heart rate a little. Helped make the thrusters unbroken at 135 feel better. That’s a wrap!
@ShelbyDThomas That is a great way to end it! Smart strategy! I'm glad to hear you improved on your final attempt! Now onto quarterfinals! I appreciate the update!
Never seen mu done like that
I do have a unique way of them. I learned at a YMCA where the pull up bar at the neutral grips as well. So when I learned I would have to go around them otherwise I'd hit them...the method has just stuck with me since then.
Nice job, this one looks like a pisser. I'll be doing the opposite of you with reps. Thrusters at 5/5 - 4/3 and keeping the CTB and BMU's unbroken. Side note, who is that bear who keeps walking into the camera to grab chalk in the back?! That guy makes you look small, or anyone else for that matter. Wow haha
Thanks for that and I'll be sure to let him know. He's got about 30lb on me and is a weightlifter. That's an interesting strategy. Let me know how that goes, curious to hear the results. I appreciate the support!
if you're not in danger of being on the cut line, what's the rationale behind redoing workouts?
That's the first time someones ever asked me that, for that I thank you. I started before the quarterfinals were a thing. Back then we had to do our best over 5 weeks. Then do our best to be top 10%. I've always wanted to challenge myself to be able to handle the volume of multiple attempts as well as see how much I could improve in a short period of time. It allows me to continue to gauge progress year over year even though the format changes slightly each year.
@@christopherdidyoung7442 Knowing that you're going to do it multiple times short changes you from having any urgency in your first attempt. There's no "back against the wall" feeling. Scores will reset and the result ultimately won't matter for anything other than ego and in this game, your ego is not your amigo. You'd be better served spending that time learning from your mistakes, recovering, and training for the unknowable in the future than getting beat up and risk injury in a workout you've already done well enough to advance in. You even cited that multiple attempts at 24.2 possibly affected your performance in this week.
That's just my unsolicited 2 cents given in 100% good faith. Hope you do well moving forward in QF
@danielswope7017 I appreciate that in good faith. It'd possible yes, my plate has just been heavy. I'm one week out from my wedding, so it's a culmination of things. I set goals years ago to achieve certain things before I age up into 35 masters category. This is far from an urgency workout I assure you. Not unless you're gonna go sub 10 minutes like Olsen. I wouldn't say I'm irresponsible with my multiple attempts, I know my body well enough at this point. However I do thoroughly appreciate your honest transparency. Points may reset, but my placement each open is still locked in year after year.
@@christopherdidyoung7442 I'm confused with the last part. Your placement in the open is just your placement in the open, that's like setting your goal to win the warmup.
If Athlete A comes in 1st in the open, and 500th in QF while Athlete B comes in 500th in the Open and 1st in QF, Athlete B won in a landslide.
If I finish 1,000th in the open, and 3,000th in QF, I finish the season in 3,000th place.
@danielswope7017 I learn a lot from the open and compare open to open. Quarterfinals is relatively new and not the easiest to compare considering the workouts aren't as similar year to year. Your logic is sound and I don't disagree. All I'm stating is the knowledge I gain on my improvement over a weekend. So that I'm capable of doing better on first attempts. Sometimes you have to feel a workout to know how to do better in it. I'm at a level where I'm constantly playing catch up due to time and experience. Therefore I get as much in when I can to gauge how to attack things more accordingly. I'm not gonna settle otherwise why even put forth any effort since 25% go this year to next round. Quarterfinals are a month a way, going hard for 3 weekends won't burn me out a month out.
What big booty mix was this?
I believe it was the most recent one. I'll double check
Awesome push! Been watching you since i started crossfit last year in january. Have you always muscle upped like that? Do u feel ur style exerts energy?
Awesome score thought love ur uploads 🔥
That's awesome to hear. I don't know of anyone's told me they've been watching me for that long. That means a lot. I have always done them this way, when I first learned so long ago at a YMCA they had neutral bars in between the regular bar so I would have to move my body around them not to get hit. The method has just stuck and actually feels harder to do it the other way. I do believe it uses more energy since it's a faster more tense rep, but I'm used to it at this point. That just wasn't my best day Thursday. Thank you for your continued support. If there's ever anything you want to see, just let me know!
