Now our little boy came up to his mum
    in the kitchen this evenin'
    While she was fixin' supper
    And he handed her
a piece of paper he'd been writin' on
And after wipin' her hands on her apron
She read it - and this is what it said
For mowing' the lawn - five dollars
For makin' my own bed this week - one dollar
And for goin' to the store - fifty cents
    An' playin' with little brother,
while you went shoppin' - twenty-five cents
Takin' out the trash - one dollar
Gettin' a good report card - five dollars
And for rakin' the yard - two dollars
    Total owed - fourteen seventy-five
Well, as mum looked at him standin' there expectantly
And I could see the mem'ries flashing through her mind
And so she picked up the pen, and turnin' the paper over
    This is what she wrote
For the nine months I carried you
Growin' inside me - No charge
For the nights I've sat up with you
Doctored you, and prayed for you - No charge
For the time and the tears
That you've cost through the years, there's No charge
And when you add it all up
The full cost of my love is No charge
For the nights filled with dread
And all the worries ahead - No charge
    For advice and the knowledge
And the cost of your college - No charge
For the toys, food and clothes
and even for wipin' your nose
    There's No charge, son
And when you add it all up
The full cost of my love, is - No charge
    Well, when he finished readin'
He had great big old tears in his eyes
And he looked up at her
    standing there and said
"Mama, I sure do love you".
    Then he took the pen,
    And in great big letters
    He wrote PAID IN FULL
Jehovah knows when you add it all up
The cost of real love is - No charge

Just came across this little number, my god - this song is so powerful, so mush so, it's so overwelming that by the time the lady backup singer started tears were streaming down my cheeks as a flood of memories swamped over be as I remembered my mom borrowed some money off me to pay for what she said "was things she had to pay" and I remembered calling her days later to say to her "the money you owe me - I've scrubbed it, you owe me nothing" and I said "I will never mention it again" and I never did. The next day I visited my mom and she was in the best happiest mood I'd have ever seen her in a long time until we both broke into tears for no reason and no I didn't mention it and I never asked what the money was for. I did it out of pure unconditional love. My mom passed away 8 years ago now and this song reminded me of the love, care and dedication we had between me and my mom.

My Dad used to give me a good hiding growing up in the 1970s, I’m pretty sure I deserved it. He gave me the tools to survive in a tough world. My Mum was gentle and worked hard to feed 4 kids with little money. We all turned out with a good work ethic, thanks Mum and Dad, they’ve been married 60 years next year.

@ian3580 it's called txt speech, i believe. Reading this, however, is hard work. Does she mean she played it to only one kid and left out the others, or is the "s" a typo and there is only one kid? The odd comma here & there would make it more readable.

If the cost of real love is no charge, then how come my missus insisted on a wedding that cost me £25k?

      @Billy Stanier:
      1. Maybe it was NOT real love from Your Missus
and You should immediately talk about this with her, or:
      2. Actually this song talks about a mother´s love 😊
      Cause no one has a greater 💜love💜 than a 💐mother💐 !!!
