- This video takes a look inside an (almost)complete, high efficiency, timber frame house and barn in MidCoast Maine. We completed our timber frame/SIP package for this client last year and we stopped by recently to see the (almost)finished product. You can check out the full build series of this frame/SIP package on our channel.

Looks simultaneously new and 100 years old. I mean it as a compliment. Love that someone is using timber frame, traditional layout, carriage house, beautiful window casements, etc. stellar!
Thank you so much! That is our goal with every project!
Finally getting started with my build
5 1/2 years after taking your course.
The tree’s have been selected and marked for harvest this upcoming winter. Going through the permitting process with the county now. Slow and steady wins the race. House raising June 2025 .
I’m also planning on putting in a Tulikivi fireplace like yours
Congratulations! That is a huge accomplishment!
Best of luck! so excited for you. That's quite an undertaking, what a unique accomplishment having your hands on every step of the way. Kudos.
Absolutely gorgeous! Shelter Institute; you people do fantastic work! Can't wait to come take your in-house class one day!
Thank you! We can’t wait to host you!
Stunning! They thought of everything, even the placement of the posts whilst sitting on the screened in porch! Brilliant!
It was amazing house last year when the June class @ shelter got to visit this house. It now a very beautiful house after seeing the house almost complete.
So beautiful! Y'all killed it!
Thank you! She worked with some excellent general contractors!
This build came out so darn beautiful!
Absolutely love the Post and beam construction. Gorgeous house and garage!
Thank you! Everyone involved nailed it!
Nothing like a Timber Frame!!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! We absolutely agree
I like this interior layout and being able to see how it accommodates the timber frame. Can you cajole more of your customers to let you video their finished homes, both exterior and interior?
We will certainly be making more videos like this in the future, thanks for the support!
Totally beautiful. What a well-considered home. Anyone have a ballpark on the cost of building this home? I wonder how much the garage cost as well. Cheers
Beautiful home!
Absolutely beautiful.
We couldn’t agree more!!
Fantabulous! Really nice to see the bow put on this build! Nice work and congrats to the owners!
Thank you! GC’s did excellent work!
I am in love with the home design! My dream home. Great vision home owners.
Incredible people with superb vision!
Thank you for sharing. Both buildings are spectacular, you have done an amazing job with the build and finish.
Thank you!! Everybody involved nailed it!
Such a beautiful home. What is the finished sqft of the house?
Roughly 2,200 square feet!
Very very nice.
Thank you! Everybody involved really nailed it!
Beautiful work you guys, per usual. Are those individual mini split AC units or a multi zone system? Are they heat pump?
i was wondering the same.
I love the looks of this one. Do you teach any sound deadening techniques in your classes? I love the look of timber frame, but the timber frame homes I've visited channel and amplify noise like a drum. Open spaces, hard walls, walking on the floor upstairs. You can hear everything in the house.
Thank you! We teach different ways to deaden sound in our Design Build course, not specific to timber framing, but it is more lecture based and not a hands on portion of the class. There are many ways to minimize noise transmission including offset stud interior wall systems, SIP floor system between floors or a cavity floor system, to name a few.
The decking you see us install on the second floor in our builds is generally used as the sub floor on the second floor and finished ceiling on the first floor. It can be used as the finished floor, but like you said, that is quite noisy when somebody is walking around upstairs.
Beautiful. Did this client make their total cost/budget available to share? Curious what their all in cost of construction might be.
This client worked directly with the GC’s listed in the description after our package(timber frame + sips)was installed. If you’re interested in pricing for our package, check out our website and feel free to reach out to start the design and build process!
Every build is different. This build is one of a kind but based on the Shelter package: you design, they will build. Example, I'm having a 24' x 36'-foot timber frame built.
I added to the cost of the basic package; loft with 3' raise: Douglas Fir for the interior timbers: hammer beam trusses: pine on the loft ceiling: curved wind braces.
It is going to be beautiful, and they were happy to advise me through my choices. I'll be living in a camper for a while, but If you dream it, you can do it! start small.
@@FITZIEBLUE Thanks for the encouragement. However, with inflation, insane prices for land, costs for construction materials and labor up, and a desire to be relatively debt free there aren't any realistic options. Including a small parcel (at least one acre) I'm estimating at least 400k for something small and move in ready to be built.
Beautiful! Is there anywhere to get more information? e.g. floor plan?
What's the cost for a build like this? Thanks!
👍
🙌🙌
whats ballpark on something like this just the building and garage ready to move in?
Wondering the same
check out their website.
You sure that's 24x24? That looks way bigger than that.
The garage and studio space are both 24x24’s!
thats an odd design on the stained glass window..
