      Once I was forced to gate check my carry-on bag and the employee was really mean and loud and made me open up my bag and take out my medications and wigs out in front of everyone. I had the wigs in clear ziplocks, it was embarrassing. I now own the pink satin bags you recommended. On another note, I am always really nervous that hotel housekeeping is playing with my wigs when I'm out for the day LOL

    I’m going to Italy for a week in September! I’ll be taking two of my wigs with me. I’m on a 3 month trip now traveling in a travel trailer with my husband. 11 of my wigs are with me on this trip. I have them in wig bags that have hangers. My husband thought we were going to have to have an extra trailer for the wigs 😂

    I was a new wig wearer about 10 years ago. When exiting the plan, I tripped and my wig flew off of my head! So embarrassing! I did not know about wig grips or glue then.

      Oh no, that must have been quite an experience! In the early days of wig wearing, I too had my wig fly off when I took my hat off in public during a gust of wind. It was embarrassing!!! That was before I found wig grips hehe. It’s amazing how much we learn over time. Wig grips and glue really do make a world of difference. Thank you for sharing your story-it's a great reminder of how far we've come in the world of wigs. 😊💖

    Thanks for sharing this, Steph! It's so timely. I'm getting ready for a 17+ travel day via airplane, including a layover, so I was a bit nervous about the border situation and setting off the alarms. I usually set them off because I wear an underwire bra, so I'm used to it. LOL. I'm Feeling better after hearing your stories and tips.

    Hi Steph! This video was very helpful. I have been wearing wigs for years. I used to always get pulled over through security as the combs in my wig would set off the alarm. Now I use the wig band and no longer use the combs. I look forward to wearing my wig on m6 next trip. Hopefully, your tips will save me. Thanks! Leslie from Israel❤

    This was great! Love traveling, and dressing up is my favorite way to go. You mentioned how you have only gotten pulled aside once and not sure what makes that happen. Same, but it's usually a simple thing for me and it's my metal hair clip. BUT one time (and only time I have gotten the FULL pat down) I was wearing a halter dress that was comfortable and doesn't wrinkle (win right? WRONG)... I wore that dress a hundred times before but not on airplanes. Sadly, it had tripped the scanners -they detected gun powder👀unbeknownst to me. So I never wear that anymore lol and they suggested not to. YIKES! They are little, maybe only a dozen of them spread out on this brightly colored printed dress. But the silver that looks like a sequin is actually made of some sort of metal that they said shows up as gun powder.

    I recently (actually today) got back home from a long trip. I went to a neighbouring country (I live in Europe) to visit my best friend for a month. I only brought one wig with me, because I was in a crisis situation with my wigs... basically this is the last one that's still wearable and that I feel I look good in, but it's also really hanging on a thread.
    It's a long, curly human hair wig but crap quality, so after 2 months of wearing it now it gets matted within 2-3 wears no matter how well I detangle, wash, condition and style it. I could put a whole bottle of leave-in conditioner in it at once and it'd still feel dry and coarse. It's also gotten so thinned out by now you can actually see the tracks through the hair in the back. (It doesn't shed a lot, but it loses a lot of hair every time I have to detangle it.) It does still look cute when freshly done though, if you don't look too closely.
    I made an order for two new wigs a month before my travel, thinking I really need something fresh and new to bring with me and I surely have enough time, but I had the worst luck with that! One of those wigs got cancelled because my payment didn't go through properly, and the other got lost in shipping. So I couldn't bring either of them, and was left with only my one "good" wig that's on the brink of death.
    For such a long trip, and the disastrous condition of that wig, and having no backup wig, I really had bring all of my supplies for my travel: blockhead and its table attachment, shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, hair bond treatment, coconut oil, combs, brushes, water spray bottle, and so on, and then just continue washing, detangling and styling it as I normally would, and be constantly anxious about if the wig is gonna end up too matted for me to be able to rescue it. (the nape area has really lost its integrity and very easily gets matted.)
    Luckily that's doable when you're staying at a friend's house and needing to bring enough stuff in a large suitcase to manage for several weeks anyway. Although I could very barely close that bag lol. It did work out alright though. The wig is still hanging on... somehow!
    Thing is I'm kinda broke and really can't spend thosands of dollars on good wigs, and I get skin reactions from synthetic wigs. So that's how I always end up with over-processed, likely floor hair, human hair wigs that start breaking down within a month, and then it's just downhill from that point on, until they'se so matted from just one wear that they're physically impossible to detangle. Likely because this hair has no cuticles and I really doubt it's remy. I'm not really sure how to actually solve that situation. The wigs you wear is like a whole months worth of my income. It would take me years to save up for one, decades for a whole collection.
    So me travelling with these kinda low quality human hair wigs is kind of a nightmare lmao. Especially since my travels tend to be really long, like 3-4 weeks. But even that, is actually surprisingly doable.

    Thank you for this! I took a wig with me on my carry on a couple of months ago... I did not have a satin/silk bag, so I wrapped it in tissue paper and stuck it inside a large ziploc bag... Now I know better LOL Do you have a link for the silk bags you use? Also, the brown wig just makes your eyes pop! Gorgeous!

    • @WigsWithSteph
      @WigsWithSteph  4 місяці тому +2

      Thank you for sharing your experience! Wrapping your wig in tissue paper and a Ziploc bag was a clever solution, but a satin/silk bag does work wonders. Here's the Amazon link to the satin storage bags I use: amzn.to/467Wzhm. And great news-they're actually on sale for Prime Day today! If these don’t quite suit your style, there are plenty of other options available at good prices, often in packs of multiple. Also, thank you for the compliment on the brown wig-I'm glad you like it! 😊

    Do you wear your wig grip while swimming?? Also how do you find the chlorine or salt water affecting your wig? Then after swimming do you just hang it dry with and also the wig grip or do you always wash it after swimming? Thanks...

    Ques.. what do you wear to the dentist or situations like that where your head is back or can be scrutinized?

    • @WigsWithSteph
      @WigsWithSteph  4 місяці тому +2

      Absolutely, I do! When going to the dentist or similar situations, I make sure I'm wearing a wig that has a natural hairline. I find that the dentist doesn't even notice. Most people don’t think "wig" right away, so they typically have a harder time detecting one. When I moved across the country a year ago and had to change dentists, I went in for a teeth cleaning that took over an hour. At the end, she actually complimented my hair color and wondered who did it. When I told her it was a wig, she was shocked. You'd be surprised how many people we think should notice it's a wig, but actually never do!

    Do you feel weird wearing completely different wig styles and colors daily around familiar people you see? Like people at school pickup or soccer games must ask? I try to wear the exact same styles and colors so people I see often still don’t know it’s a wig, but I’d love to try a different color.

    If not metal, what is inside of ear tabs?

    • @WigsWithSteph
      @WigsWithSteph  4 місяці тому +2

      @@tonihartsell9317 this is a great question! Manufactures have told me that construction-wise, ear tabs may contain pieces of metal or plastic inside them. But if any metal is placed in them, it’s at such small levels that it doesn’t set off the x-ray machines in airports. If your wig is made of high-quality material, like all of the wigs I feature on my channel, they will not set off airport security devices. I’ve tested all of my wigs on various occasions, and they’ve never been detected. I hope this puts your mind at ease ❤️

    What happens when you show your ID and you look different because you’re wearing a wig?

    • @WigsWithSteph
      @WigsWithSteph  4 місяці тому +4

      Great question! People change over the years and typically don’t look exactly like their photo anyways. Plus, women/men change their hair color and style all the time; I've never found this to be an issue for me when showing my ID. I've found that as long as your facial features are recognizable, it's usually not an issue. 😊

    Is it going to be a problem with your baby pulling on your wig? Because, we know that’s what babies do.

    • @WigsWithSteph
      @WigsWithSteph  4 місяці тому +3

      Great question! I already have a baby named Violet, and another one on the way. So far, wearing wigs hasn't been an issue. I use a wig grip, so even when Violet pulls on my hair, it stays securely in place. She hasn't managed to pull my wig off yet! LOL! 😊
