Absolutely beautiful interpretation! Dynamics, voicing, phrasing, articulation, tempo are all just amazing. But most of all, the passion conveyed here is incredible.
Martha Angerich stands among the select few who possess the ability to capture the entirety of this musical masterpiece in all its opulence. Beautiful!!
Normally Im a Gould die-hard, but in regards to this peice I've turned the corner and definitely agree with you. I find Goulds astonishingly perfect. BUT This version has a flowing grace to it that I find more pleasant to listen to without question.
For years I've been waiting for someone to play it in a way that will at least close to gould. And finally I have found one. While it might not be quite Gould, it is certainly one of the best. Bravo!

Is that a stray mistake around 9:45? If so, it doesn't bother me -- the overall performance is wonderful. But it would surprise me a little that a DG recording might allow that to slip by.
She does a similar thing on the repeat, so now I'm thinking that what sounds like a muddy mis-strike in each case is just a fog of ornament caught in either pedal or reverb (or both). It's too unlikely that she'd 1) make this "mistake, twice no less, and 2) that the producer would ignore it.
@@StoneChords it's not a mistake--it's a slur added as an ornament. In Baroque music, it's the norm for the performer to add their own ornaments and embellishments in their own style.
@@arnoldvdwaals Well it seems you have monetized this video, then you should go in the settings of this video and remove the mid roll ads placed at the beginning, at the end of the Sinfonia and at the end of the Allemande, and even not precisely at the end of these movements, which creates a very unpleasant sensation. Have a good day
You cannot compare this to Gould. Glenn is much more a master in articulation and he has more focus. Argerich is more, as Gould used to say, an exploiter of the piano. I feel Argerich is more intuitive and Gould more intelligent. It's a matter of preference who you like best. But Gould is technically superior. He is a fanatic, Argerich is a romantic. I wouldn't want to hear Gould play Chopin, that's for sure! But Gould wouldn't even come near a piano that sounds like this one! Anyhow, Goulds playing sounds more transparant than any other pianists.
@@johnvalentine4720 Really? It depends how you look on it, I suppose. Argerich is a very extraversive pianist and Gould as introversive as it gets. For technicality: Gould could imitate anything Argerich plays and would certainly make fun of it. However it would not breath that romantic soul. Argerich could not imitate Gould. He is so absorbed in what he does! Anyway, this conversation is totally unethical (Gould would certainly agree to that).
こんなに情感豊かなバッハは聴いたことがない。目から鱗、ですね。

I love her approach. I just wish that she recorded more Bach!
2nd English Suite BWV 807 and Partita Nr. 2 BWV 826, both on my channel
@@arnoldvdwaals But why didn't she record more Bach???
Stupenda, per certi versi migliore di quella live recente che si trova su youtube.
The best version. Wonderful
Luca Rossi I guess Glenn Gould’s version is so much better. He is fantastic:)
KPatrik100 both are great
Exquisite performance, played with great creativity and brilliant technique.
The definitive, reference BWV826 rendition for piano! Way better than Gould's, IMHO....

'Cept it's WAY better imo
Thank you for sharing!
Das Leben ist schön ❤ Danke!
Life is not always 'schön'...
such a bold but finely nuanced rendition, a classic, i agree with Henry below, I too wish she had recorded more Bach...
Thanks Will

Did she use "tapping" technique? The technique Gould had used. It sounds pretty similar.

Couldn't find any mistake
The "mistake" is an "acciaccatura", repeated exactly at 10:16

How dare you put awful advertising on such a harmonious and divine music ?

Give me a child dancing happily to school rather than a banker rigidly walking to the office......due respects to Gould.
'Gould is technically superior (to Argerich)' - that's a bold statement. 🤨

....and then there's Sergey Schepkin who gives this and Gould a run for their money....
Звучит неплохо, НО!.. после исполнения Гленна Гульда, это - обыкновенно!
Нет ТОГО магического влияния на человека, как у Гленна!
