That bird chirping at the beginning fitted the music quite well......even the lyrics! ("there's a songbird that sings" and "there's a bustle in your hedgerow" and then the cat appears, LOL. The live version of this from Madison Square Garden in 1973 has an extended (double-neck) guitar solo that's a classic.
I’ve said this to other reactors, you have no idea what’s about to hit you with this band. Enjoy. Check out “ Since I’ve Been Loving You, Kashmir and In My Time of Dying”.

Zeppelin is known for being a hard rock band. But they are heavily influenced by the blues, in particular, American blues such as Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf. Give “Since I’ve been loving you” or “When the levee breaks” a try.
You have just listened the #1 song in rock history by the #1 band in Rock History. There has never been, or will there ever be, a band that is better than Zeppelin. They are iconic Rock legends. Do yourself a favor and listen to their 1973 live performance of this song. It blows the studio version away a million times over!! I bow down to the greatness that is Led Zeppelin!!
Good choice for a first listen. Led Zeppelin is known for very hard rock but they have many songs like this where they go from soft to hard and back again. Their lead guitarist is a master and knows just when to use acoustic guitar and when to switch to electric guitar to get the perfect balance of sound. My recommendation for your second listen: “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You.” That one also starts off mellow with acoustic guitar, then goes large, then back to mellow again. I’m sure other commenters here will suggest more songs. Led Zeppelin was a hit factory back in the 70s so there are a ton of good songs out there. I predict that each new 70’s era rock band song you hear will make you want to hear more. The musicians of that decade actually influenced each other to produce better songs and the result was a ton of legendary compositions. Enjoy the ride, man.
Hey it's the 77 year old grandma, this is a song that each person will get something different from it, it speaks to the heart, spirit and soul of men and women. The production values back then, when they only had 8 or 16 tracks, puts today’s production values to shame. You just listened to the most popular and famous song in rock history. Not a bad start. LOL. However, not many of their songs are like this song. Zeppelin is HEAVILY influenced by the old blues masters like Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson to name a few. So many of their songs, especially from the first 4 albums have a lot of blues and rock stuff mixed together. I would suggest at some point faily early that you listen and watch to some of their live performances. Especially anything from the Madison Square Garden concert form 1973 called "The Song Remains the Same." Live they take it to a whole new level as they often improvise and greatly extend the song from the studio version. Also, they have some of the best stage presence you have ever seen in a band. And they just ooze sex appeal on stage. Especially the singer Robert Plant. His tight jeans alone females find very distracting because of uhm what is more than hinted at under the jeans. LOL. Back in the day, high school,1971 this was the national stoner anthem played at every party, bongs and beer, we used to call this HIGH way to Heaven. Everyone played this album at their parties, smoking and toking, no party was complete without listening to Stairway to Heaven. 40 plus years later my reaction to this song is more like what you're hearing and feeling for the first time but without the cloud of pot smoke fogging up the memories of what this song has meant to so many of us members of the stoner generation and beyond.
"Stairway To Heaven" is not only THE antheme of the whole rock history, it's THE revelation at all. Now they have got your soul and will never give it you back.

Led Zeppelin's trade mark in their music is to intensify as the song goes along...it could be mellow then gradually build into a hammering rock hard sound that blows you away...but very artistically bring it altogether. This song is a true example of that.
I've been listening to this song for almost 50 years and the meaning and interpretation of the song can take a long time to figure out. And I know the meaning can be different for everyone, while staying close to the same line. But I try to just feel the song and see what comes to my mind and blend it with the lyrics. I really loved your reaction and will enjoy following you on your music journey. Thanks so much! ✌
You are exactly right. You have to listen to it several times to fully appreciate it. Sit in a nice comfy chair with your feet up and smoke a joint and give it a listen. That's how you listen to it like a true fan.
Great reaction! I once heard about a teacher who handed these lyrics out to the kids and she had each of them write about the meaning of the song to them. Plant’s line “look to the west” was a reference to his desire to get out of England and head to America. He wanted to visit the south and hang out with the blues gods.
“There’s a feeling I get when i look to the west and my spirit is crying for leaving” He started out to be a blues singer and admired idols like BB King, Big Mama Thornton, & Howln’ Wolf.

I'm in my mid-50s so I grew up listening to a lot of this great stuff from the 70s and 80s. The only recent band that's really grabbed me in a big way is Tool. Very meaningful & you're right in that it takes a few listens to fully unpack it.
And by the way, the kitten behind you also seemed to enjoy it...lol
Lmao, I didn't even know it was back there
Shoot, I've been listening to this song for nearly 50 years and still don't have it figured out.
There’s two stages in the life of musical enjoyment. Before; and after listening to the stairway of heaven
Awesome reaction! They were a band very steeped in the blues. You can tell with songs like, "Since I've Been Loving You", "You Shook Me", "The Lemon Song", and many others. Enjoy the ride!
You're right, you can't listen to it just one time, that's why we were fortunate enough to get to listen to it 5 or 6 times a day on the Album Rock stations back in the day. Growing up in the 70s Stairway To Heaven was etched into our minds. It's been voted number one countless times as being the greatest rock song of all time.
When the Levee Breaks, Kashmir, The Ocean, and The Crunge. Everyone of them iconic (and there's more!)
My girlfriend back in the day, now my wife loved disco and I hated it, but we both love Zeppelin.
I've watched about three of your reaction videos and your reactions are great. You are so mellow and meaningful in your reactions to some the great classic rock music. Keep it up my friend. I'll definitely keep watching..Peace
Led zeppelin best band ever in the history of rock and roll they are untouchable
Wish I could go back to being 11, sneaking my my friends older brother’s album into the living room, listening to this for the first time again.
50 years on, and it still raises the hair on my arms
Samadhi
Plant’s line “look to the west” was a reference to his desire to get out of England and head to America. He wanted to visit the south and hang out with the blues gods.
Damn , thank you
“There’s a feeling I get when i look to the west and my spirit is crying for leaving”
He started out to be a blues singer and admired idols like BB King, Big Mama Thornton, & Howln’ Wolf.
Bet you didn't know Zep did SOUL music, did ya? I didn't either till I heard this...."Baby, Come On Home".....it'll bring a tear to your eye & blow your mind all AT THE SAME TIME!!! Have at it my brotha!!
The most amazing thing about the bands/songwriters of that era, is to be able to “Get It.” And YOU, my friend, Get It!
Pastoral...a steady acceleration to the drop. Profound and simple.
I've known this song since I was 17, but you describing it as art was fantastic
This is still the most requested song on radio....
FOX STAR / Approved
some deep lyrics. Led Zep are the kings of switching it up! :) great reaction
the bird chirp takes this song to a whole other level.
The song itself is a stairway. Building and taking you higher with each step.
It's a shame that this generation will never see a band like Led Zeppelin live and solo artists like Jimmy Hendrix Janis Joplin and many others. I grew up in the greatest music generation ever.
Many consider this to be the greatest rock and roll song ever. It's truly a classic. As others have said, Led Zeppelin has so many great tracks to choose from. My other personal favorites are "Dazed and Confused", "Kashmir", "Whole Lotta Love", and "Ten Years Gone". Enjoy!
I'm starting just how popular and huge they really are
@@abracadabra3033 Yes, they were huge both in popularity and in their influence of other bands that followed. Pink Floyd is another band that's similarly revered so you should try to explore some of their work as well.
I'm in my mid-50s so I grew up listening to a lot of this great stuff from the 70s and 80s. The only recent band that's really grabbed me in a big way is Tool. They too have an enormous and passionate fan base due to their complex polyrhythmic style, expert musicianship, and creative lyrical content. Hopefully you can get around to giving them a taste eventually. I think you'll appreciate what they're all about.
The band Heart did a beautiful tribute cover of this song at The Kennedy Honors of Led Zeppelin. It was cool to see the band’s reaction as well.
Thank you for reminding me how much I appreciate led zeppelin I have reheard them thru your eyes and ears peace ✌ new appreciation
I have only recently come across your videos but I wanted to say that I really appreciate the way that you approach your listening. The gentleness of your manner and enjoyment of discovery shines through but the hip-hop background gives you a feeling for lyric and rhythm that provides a fresh viewpoint. Best wishes to you from the UK.
