Thank you for posting this great instructional video. May I respectfully suggest that you drop the repetitive background music as it detracts from your excellent video.
Awesome tutorial! Getting ready to do my 100 hour service on my 70 hp, and your video has increased my confidence with the water pump maintenance. Thank you.
Man, this is the most helpful and best put together video on how to do basic maintenance. I just bought my first boat with a Yamaha F90LB and this video was a life saver. Thanks!
Thank you boss for the video. I have the same motor on my boat and again, thank you for the super helpful video. Impeller is something I have never changed. My fishing buddies are going to help and I owe them fishing trips to the Coronado Islands in Mexico for yellowtail. We will watch your video before the work.
I have a 2023 Yam 70 and I use it in the pacific northwest. My dealer told me to only use the Yam conventional oil instead of the synthetic which surprised me. Using synthetic in cold water the motor can't get to proper temp so it can make oil. I had that problem in my last motor, a yam 90. Nice video, looking forward to my 20 hr service I'll be doing soon.
Great video thankyou, I have a 2002 f60 4stroke which is new to me and I'm doing maintenance items one at a time and ur video has given me the confidence I was looking for. Thankyou again
Can anyone help me understand why the F70 owners manual says to use an oil extractor to pump the oil out instead of draining it through the drain plug as seen here? I can't understand it! It's like there's an easy way to change the oil right in front of you but they tell you to do it a different way that requires buying another tool! What is going on here?
Thank you so much for this video! It’s perfect for a noob like me. I’m hoping to get your opinion... I bought an Edgewater 158cs at the end of last season. It came with the F70 and it’s brand new. I was able to get her out on the water twice before it got too cold (maybe 2-3 hours). Since then, she’s been in my garage. So here’s the question... would you change the oil going into the Spring? Or do you think I’m good until the first 20 hour service?
I would probably just check the level and condition of the oil and gear lube before you start your season. If it’s ok then I would wait for the 20 hr maintenance.
@@timtaylor8557 Have you had the 158cs for awhile? As I said above, I’ve only had her out twice but I’m absolutely in love with her. It would be great to hear your pros/cons, things to watch for, how you use it, etc.
@@nagamus had for almost two years. Love the boat but the ladder is poorly designed. Too difficult to climb onto the boat. Just started my first 100hr service. I live in south Florida so we can boat year round. But being on the gulf, the saltwater can corrode things quick. The stainless fittings are holding up well but I rinse the boat off well after every use. Love the no feedback steering. Didn’t have that on my last boat. Oh and I’ve put the boat in the water twice now while forgetting to put the plug in 😉. And i can tell you the auto bilge pump works great. You should see the water fly out.
They can last longer, depending on how much wear or non-use, The longer you go past two years the more apt you could have a problem, but they will last longer than one or two years in most cases in freshwater!
Hi, interesting video, question! When dropping the lower unit, u just undo all retaining bolts, what about the gear selector? Does this not interfere with dropping the gear casing? I only seen you disconnect the tube for speedometer
No the oil gets drained out of the intermediate housing oil pan it’s best to do it cold when most of the oil is there. Also you should wait a few minutes after refilling the oil to check the level
Perform a compression test if you have the tools to see if the cylinder is cracked or what cylinder is the concern also you may have a leaking head gasket.
No I run mostly saltwater just flush every time I’m done or run it in a bucket since the flush tube process does not fully go through the power head due to the thermostat being closed
@@ShallowHookerFishing I've been getting salt inside the engine compartment on the engine itself. I spray down the metal parts with corrosion inhibitor but can't get all the salt off of everything. How is your engine so clean? Are you spraying it down with the cowling off or something?
I have been a marine mechanic for 25 yrs in south Florida and I have found that t19 Boeing shield is the best spray protection you can get locally buy I sprayed the engine one time when new in 2016 and still looks new.
The best F 70 service video on You Tube! The only thing I would add would be changing the anodes and fuel filter. Excellent presentation! Thank you.

Agreed very annoying better to just hear him talk

I also added a new video to replace the thermostat

Glad it was helpful service work is getting expensive.

Thank you very much for a well explained service video.
I have a new 70/4stk, doing 30hr tune up.....thanks for making this video, nice boat.
great video, very informative, all the best from Australia
Great training skills.
Excellent video
Thanks for the video very helpful
Excellent video! Very informative!
This vedeo was very helpful for me. To do pm on my Yamaha 70mm motor
Awesome video thank you for taking the time to post 👏🏻👌🏻
wondering which prop is that you are running on your 70 4stk ?
Great video manual! It will be great if you show fuel filter change too. As I know there are two kind of fuel filter inside the engine.
Such an awesome video, very educative and to the point. Wish you listed links for all parts also on the description. where can i find all the gaskets?
I had gotten all my parts and fluids from partsvue.com
Great video it found it to be very informative. 😊
Awesome. What prop are you running?
I just purchased a 2019 with this same engine and I found this so helpful... thanks what prop are you running on that motor.
Great video thank you for making that, just one question was that grease you put on the bolts for the lower unit, kinda had a tan grayish look to it
Bro thanks this video help me a lot😎💪
Super helpful. Thank you
You never took off the propeller! What if there is fishing line tangled in there? What about greasing the propeller shaft?
Great video !
Great video! I can’t seem to find the plug gap. Can you tell me where to look or just the gap size. Thank again for the helpful video!
The specs for the plug gap should be on the engine cover or the lower cowl
That’s for doing this video!
I just got a brand new F70 Yamaha what would be the first maintenance that I do to it it’s brand new thank you!
20 hr service , pull prop for inspection , oil and filter and lower unit gear lube change
Great video..
Thank you for doing this video. But I must say, the music is so unnecessary and annoying...
When draining gear oil tilt up engine so drain is the lowest point.

Using the Mercury special lubricant 101 is standard Yamaha maintenance?
Any one elses f70 water pump rebuild kit come with 2 black seals? Mine did
Así se hacen las cosas. Con educación y paciencia. Pensa q esta re mal señalizado para los q van por primera vez
What size are the single use gaskets? For engine and foot oil. Thank you!
Helpful! Thanks
My 70 yamaha engine is smoking and oil coming from the exhust what you think is cause
Overfilled the oil and/or you may have oil leaking passed your rings. Maybe try a heavy does of ring free and test your compression before and after
So do the water pumps only last two years ? I have a 2020 F70
No Yamaha recommends 4 yrs or 300 hrs but I run skinny water all the time so my pump wears out faster and I average 200 hrs a year

No keep the shifter in neutral and lower unit in neutral it’s just a splined connection
I don't have the 70 though, I'm only running 25 high thrust f/s 2017 model
❤❤❤
Excellent video thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Does the 75hp Yamaha use the same steps and procedures as the 70hp
They are similar
Question: What’s the clear(pink) tube on starboard side inside pan maybe resting between exhaust manifold ?
I believe your looking at the drain tube for the vst fuel module it’s used to either drain water or fuel out of it for service
How do you like the the F70 on your 168 Phantom? Thinking of re-powering from the original 60hp Mercury.
Top end 35 mph light load full of fuel and 2 parole 33 mph so far it’s been great motor 450 hrs on it now
what prop do you have on your phantom
Yamaha ss k13
@@ShallowHookerFishing how fast you going with that
With just one person I top out 35 mph 33 2 people
music loud , can't hear talking
how often to replace the water pump?
It will depend on what your doing with it but there is a guide line in the owners manual for service intervals
Which prob is this on your 70?
Aren’t you supposed to warm up the engine before draining the engine oil?

Hmm, the manual says to warm it up.
Well the manuals always right . I just don’t like working with hot oil or hot engines . I have to look into it thx for the info
cut the music too much
Have 2000 100 hp Yamaha. Has water in oil. Runs fine at idle.Misses at 1500 and above. What should I look for as the cause?
Perform a compression test if you have the tools to see if the cylinder is cracked or what cylinder is the concern also you may have a leaking head gasket.
@@ShallowHookerFishing Thanks for info
My Yamaha have speed when go full throttle
What size and pitch prop are you running on it?
19 p
19
@@ShallowHookerFishing stainless? And do you get any prop rattle out of it?
Mercury Rev 4 stainless with torque flows 5 and yes there is some rattle at idle
@@ShallowHookerFishing i gotcha. Yeah I have the same motor on my scout 177 and they rattle a little bit. I was just curious.
I guess the music is there for all the short attention span viewers?
Your engine has no signs of corrosion. Do you only run in fresh water?
No I run mostly saltwater just flush every time I’m done or run it in a bucket since the flush tube process does not fully go through the power head due to the thermostat being closed
