HELL YES IT'S FINALLY HERE! Something I didn't see you highlight was how useful it is to shield slam longsword users like you do to the fella @5:07 . Keep it up blinn, this is incredible content, but maybe I'm biased. :) also worth noting, I use the war hammer mainly. It's range is also poor, like the slam, but I've gotten used to getting in and out of people's faces.
I think shield slam should be something that is native to shields and not to a skill. Say if you hold right click and then use left click while blocking you can shield slam with any class. It could have more knockback/do more damage depending on your stats so that we don’t have squishy classes being a big issue. Great video ❤

I think good (not sloppy) play with 40% more health to work with could be extremely powerful, especially when combined with the adrenaline spike perk that procs when you drop below 40%. I can't quite recall.. thanks again for your insight & helpful comments!! appreciate you very much
Proposed fix: - Slightly extend the range of Shield Slam, at least far enough to match the visuals of it - Give it a shorter cool down if it didn't hit anyone (not too short, it shouldn't be spammable, but significantly shorter than the usual cool down) - The Shield Slam should cause the enemy to be slowed harder & longer. Want to escape? Shield Slam, creates distance, and further slows him down to make getting away easier. Want to go on the offensive? You push him away but the slow & slow duration allow you to actually catch up and continue the melee engagement It's important to balance the last aspect right, in order to not make it an ultra-meta tool that allows you to "stun" someone to either get a surefire escape or surefire way of trapping the enemy. But it's okay to somewhat lean into that nature of it, seeing as the skill takes a precious skill slot that's supposed to compete with the likes of Sprint - and it's specifically Sprint that it can kind of emulate with the last proposed change, as a positioning/movement tool, except it's a debuff to the enemy rather than buff for yourself.
oh wow, excellent insights & recos.. any combination of this would definitely make it easier to choose it for one of the "precious skill slots" haah that's how I've always thought of it in my mind!! thanks for your really thoughtful comment, appreciate you Isaax :)
If anybody wants to see what happens when you spend 300 hours practicing the pavise shield slam; ua-cam.com/video/vNPU7-m0znA/v-deo.html You can see me use the shield slam specifically to shove longsword users away from me, even while activating their riposte. I feel like this is a huge value, and in my vid I kill two longsword users in one raid doing this.
If shield slam was just the shield riposte, it'd be acceptable, but as it is now, as a separate skill, the opportunity cost is too high. By the time you're in range of using shield slam, you're better off using your weapon to hit them for more damage and a slow anyway.
welcome in friend! don't get too discouraged if the game feels weird at the end of wipe, the start of wipe is way more fun for everyone! thanks for saying hello & hope to see you around :)
Add a .25 to .5 sec root/stun, 1.5 sec "concussion" effect like the Bat's echo, 1 foot/.3 meters to the range and reduce the CD another 2 sec. OR leave it pretty much as is and just remove the cooldown. They could also add a slight dash forward of 3 feet/1 meter which would help with the range and spacing.
I feel like giving shield bash at least an extra use like ranger's backdash would be nice. Even if they revert or even increase the cooldown, two shield bashes at once would be nice to have. btw, i think building kits for move and action speed plus keeping tons of throwables on hand could make the space the bash give you an opportunity for some free damage
I played many matches with shield slam after the patch. In my opinion, the ideal situation for using this skill is to hit a highly mobile but "thin" character (rogue, ranger, etc.) by pushing him into a wall or an object in the environment. You do a small amount of damage, apply a fairly serious slow, but at the same time do not lose the distance for striking with your weapon.
@@YourBoyBlinn I know this sounds controversial, but on some maps it is quite possible to move in combat so that the wall is behind the enemy. For example, the crypt is usually a very claustrophobic location and many rooms have tombs and other such things.
I have been running this shield slam combo since they buffed it and it's working really well! It seems a lot of people aren't familiar with it as well which certainly bring an edge. The knockback and 'blocking while attacking' aspects catch a lot of people off guard.
Watching people get demoralized against the pavise and thrown off by the shield slam is definitely my favorite thing about running the stuff. Most folks just fail to adapt. Gotta teach 'em.
Loved the video. A good and solid analysis of the Shield slam. It's a shame that is more of a fun meme, rather than another tool in the arsenal of the fighter.

@@YourBoyBlinn I have had *dreams* about this, when arena finally rolls around. I... just can't wait for arena. It's gonna be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to improve their melee game.

Shield slam is hard to increase the damage of, as well. 25 isn't that much damage and even if you stack true physical damage rings and phyiscal damage bonus its not going to do that much damage. The opportunity cost is high but the payoff often feels a little low. Luckily, though, there are so many ways that it could be tweaked to be actually useful. what if the slow lasted 5 seconds, or it stunned for a second? then you wouldn't have to give up spacing to use it. I hope the devs keep adding and tweaking shield stuff! very good video!

wish that shield slam is able to be used without a skill maybe make it be combined with a shield perk used by a different hotkey, I like my sprint and healing wind skills
The biggest problem with Fighter IMO is that since second wind/sprint are SO good, you're basically gimping yourself by not taking them. This then means that Fighter only gets build diversity from gear, which gets boring super quickly for me. I definitely agree that more effects could be combined to make them a more appealing choice. Some other classes could really use that treatment as well.

SparkyKawa merely adopted the pavise. I was born in it, moulded by it. This buff to pavise is gonna have people thinking I haven't been running pavise for months.
I wonder if shield slam did not give push back to the enemy if it would be better, in theory then it would allow you to more easily stick on the person with the slow being actually more useful
@@YourBoyBlinn To further add, sprint is arguably sorta used as both an engager and disengager, so if shield bash didn’t push back, I could see it being really good at being aggro as you could burn sprint to catch up and then slam to slow down and stay on them. I’d imagine it would work really well with your anti warlock build
shield slam can also be used to ruin people who forget about the void in the ice caverns there is nothing better than throwing a geared barb to his death and watch his supports reel in fear
Hey blinn good video. Always providing quality. I think shield slam should have sort of the same animation of the round shield for all shields to be considered usable. The cooldown on it should even be lowered more to essentially turn into a new attack button. However, these buffs are a good sign that ironmace can see shields. I hope to see some changes to the shield perks. Do you think the shield perks are good as they are? Or do they need some changes?
"However, these buffs are a good sign that ironmace can see shields" good call, glad to see SOME melee combat is on their radar.. I think I'm ok with the existing shield perks, maybe an update to the text of Shield Mastery to be clear the action speed applies to the next block OR attack... but in my opinion, IM needs to focus on the thrust weapon clipping through shields issue.. no reason why a rapier should hit me directly through my shield at a certain distance!! it's actually broken!!
Let me just leave worthless rl experience here xD shield slam with the flat of the shield is... not good. Very little power, without a charge behind it, the surface area spreads any hit out while also applying an air brake depending on the surface area. Surprising sure. The shield that can best be used for it are the small ones aka bucklers. A proper shield slam preferably is done with the rim of the shield - just a straight punch out - terribly quick and hurts like hell. Best done with centergrip shields( a strapped shield you are closer to the edge, thus you have less reach). But ofc, all depends on situation - putting your shield out flat in someones face and using that to step in and close is also effective and probably what they moreso are trying to replicate. ...my rant is now over xD
Can you tell me about the gloves you use? are they medical prescription or do they help prevent/counter RSI from lot of computer use? I have a desk job (ann a DaD job in the evening) and starting to feel my (mouse)hand act up
they're silver polishing gloves he wears because the feeling of a hot hand/mouse distracts him. If you are feeling your mouse hand acting up though definitely look into wrist wraps ergonomic cushions and long term posture videos. If you haven't already.
thankfully it's not to counter RSI, it's just a preference I have to prevent my mouse from feeling to warm in the palm of my hand.. as kindly noted by @dantecain6277 !!!
Hi Blin (as requested by the last part of the video) I'll be mindfull of your assessment on the viability of the skill as I go into the dungeon ignoring it completely and having fun with it (I run mostly sub 25 gs anyways so 😆)
Imagine if the ,,shield slam" would be combined with a ,,shield dash". A 1-2 sec dash forwards until hitting a target and than shield slam him. Im way to new to the game to drop a dash movement speed bonus, but maybe like +25% movement speed for those 1-2sec? Any thoughts?
@@YourBoyBlinn Yep. And it would make the Fighter a bit more mobile/ flexible. It could be a possibility to drop sprint and take Second Wind instead. Of course 2 movement skills would be insane, but healing mid-fight is also awesome. Shield Dash/Slam would create more room for even more diversity in playstyles!
@@ArcanumMortis98 yeah, hope we see some of this in the game soon! as it stands, I've tried to move away from second wind and have been enjoying some success with sprint + perfect block.. just got to go a bit slower and be careful with the hp!

@@Daragh356 Thanks bro, Blinn and I are like a venn diagram, and we overlap heavy on the "using stuff nobody else wants to" part.
that dodging from phat cheeks was amazing lol
totally humbled by that dude ..(u_ u );
I wonder if shield slam did not give push back to the enemy if it would be better, in theory then it would allow you to more easily stick on the person with the slow being actually more useful
interesting.. it would be cool to try it like that and see how it felt
@@phantomski6002 ahhh yes, good call!!
shield slam can also be used to ruin people who forget about the void in the ice caverns there is nothing better than throwing a geared barb to his death and watch his supports reel in fear
LUNCH IS ON ME IF YOU CAN EVER GET A CLIP!!! haha
We have to keep the shield fighter alive
doing the work! feels like the fire is burning bright with Board Members :)
But ofc, all depends on situation - putting your shield out flat in someones face and using that to step in and close is also effective and probably what they moreso are trying to replicate.
...my rant is now over xD
no, I appreciate this!! I've seen enough IRL melee combat to know that real dudes punch with the edge of the shield
make a lantern shield exclusive video! great content brat
I'll consider it, thanks!!
@@dantecain6277 Thank you and thank you @YourBoyBlinn
Shield slam is so good right now lol
I've been having fun with it for sure :)

yup yup, respect to PhatCheeks!!
Can you try a naked snow zombie skin smoke bomb rouge
haha not anytime soon, I don't think :P
Hi Blin (as requested by the last part of the video)
I'll be mindfull of your assessment on the viability of the skill as I go into the dungeon ignoring it completely and having fun with it (I run mostly sub 25 gs anyways so 😆)
yes, that's the way to do it! fun rules!!!
@YourBoyBlinn f yea it does
Funny thing is I play druid, but love these videos. Hi Blinn.
oh, I don't have many druid friends, hello there!! welcome in :)
Is the knockback trajectory based like if you jump bash them looking down will they bounce less?
not exactly sure... I know that if you shield slam someone who is jumping (already in teh air) they do go flying a lot farther :)
Imagine if the ,,shield slam" would be combined with a ,,shield dash". A 1-2 sec dash forwards until hitting a target and than shield slam him. Im way to new to the game to drop a dash movement speed bonus, but maybe like +25% movement speed for those 1-2sec? Any thoughts?
would love to see a "shield charge!" I think it would be a nice addition given all the movement speed meta right now!!
@@YourBoyBlinn Besides learning the Fighter, I have a very strong desire to build a Warlock-Tank with as much armor and healing capabilities as possible, just for the memes. But I dont have much Gold and still have to wait for Market access as I bought the game lately.
@@ArcanumMortis98 meme builds are fun, but be careful with platelock, since the ranged options as so limited and it can be frustrating to try and fight players who never want to come in close for melee!!
I love the content
thank you so much!!
Honestly Shield Slam is pretty good if you can block with it and wisefully make use of the speed debuff
Also they could just turn Shield Slam into a generalized Slam or Push ability. Like, as a fighter, a rogue catches you off guard with your bow out, and you just push them out of range with the speed debuff.
yeah I had fun in the
@@pardolagames8994 totally!!
I think Shield Slam seems to have more of a disengaging role, since ur flinging people back, might give u time to sprint away from a Barb or something
yup, I agree!
I feel like sprint and health recovery are just too viable and make the other skills worthless wish there was more value and variety
totally agree! thanks for the comment & good luck in your adventures!!
waiting for the day they remove knock back and rename the ability "shield charge."
ooooo nice idea!! LMK when it drops >:)
inshallah block brothers we are winning
shields up gang!!!
I got absolutely destroyed by a guy with shield slam and pavise.
humbling! hahaha
Noo shield slam is good skill, but honestly yeah. After playing with it it's fun as hell but, hard to make it work.
