Not only is this gear practical and efficient, it exudes a palpable aura of pure drip
I wholeheartedly agree 💦
Tipp: get the bow from the squire.
Even if you dont use it - you get 40 arrows each round for free!
ah ha!! nice - who doesn't like free arrows?!
Everyone be cool, the devs did a great job with this system. It’s fair.
I’m a new player, the under 25 lobby is all I can handle rn while I learn the ropes. Min-maxing at these scores only provides an edge for initial PvE encounters, (which I sorely needed). Outside of that skill determines everything else. And it’s not like you won’t find gear to replace your initial load-out within the first 5/6 minutes.
If you run into a skilled PvP player you’ll still get clowned even if you managed to loot up to a +100 gear score.
These dungeons are for training, looting, and PvE. Once I got the hang of the play style, I gotta say, it feels really balanced. I’ll still get wrecked by a player who really knows what they’re doing, but it has never felt like their gear was what gave them the advantage over me.
really great take & super awesome you feel that skill is front¢er. good luck as you continue to develop in the game!!
I totally agree with everything you’re throwing down in this vid. I was thinking of making a similar video BUT you made such an elegant explanation that I don’t think that would be necessary! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience for new players, let’s keep building an awesome community! You rock Blinn 🤘🏻🤟🏻👍🏻🙌🏻👏🏻🤛🏻💪🏻
awh, this is such a nice comment.. can't thank you enough! this community is indeed amazing, and super glad to be a small part :) happy weekend!!!
Really liked that you also showed you helping someone and you can lose with no salt a just gg
a low-salt diet is good for the heart! appreciate you stopping by & good luck in the dungeon :)
I was going to comment on it being cruel to kill the newest-of-new players who are clearly struggling with just the PvE, but helping that fighter escape saved it.
@@tombofthememelich2192 yeah tbh I was reluctant to kill that novice player & include it in the vid, but I wanted to show other new players that you can use crouch walking and get in a good position to start attacking.. glad that my karma was saved by helping that other fighter escape!!
Blinm, you are such a kind and empathetic soul! Always apologizing to your victims!
this guide was incredibly informative and entertaining. i love your attitude to the game and your clemency in pvp while also demonstrating a degree of skill in your playstyle vocation to back it up!
huzzah for clemency! haha I think maybe it's because I remember being on the receiving end of many losses to much more experienced players.. no need to rub anything in, just happy to have a chance to refine my skills in combat! thanks for your encouraging comment & hope you have a great week!!
@@YourBoyBlinn thank you! I have been enjoying the week playing dark and darker thus far. been trying to apply your teachings in game and its been a definite improvement. still getting used to the blocking mechanics in pvp and even pve, i sparred with a more experienced player from a discord and he kept dragging his attacks to get around my shield despite me trying to angle towards his attacks. but i have had some fights where i get off the "block into counter attack" using my passives. even got a kill or two in teamfights along the way.
i'm also enjoying taking the recurve bow from my squire, because i noticed that when you put on the weapon mastery passive, it opens up the sqires base gear to include weapons from other classes like the rangers recurve. and he even gives you FORTY arrows for free. so its felt good being able to poke casters and still feel like i contribute a little to teamfights that aren't in melee range.
tbh, the biggest tip from watching you play has been your use of extinguishing dungeon light sources to hide. its really made me more comfortable in the dungeon when it comes to resting, healing, or just waiting for an extract to happen.
your content has been the most helpful i have come across in trying to learn and improve at dark n darker. keep it up!
This edit was fire . Love the cuts from gear to action and back
appreciate your feedback on the editing style thanks!!
love this video i have like 200 hours on dark so im not a total new player but i always love watching videos like these to learn something new!
this is an awesome comment. I've also been playing for months and learn new stuff from other creators all the time. congrats to IM for making such a deep & interesting game!!
Dude that was awesome that you helped that guy out 16:00 i met a few people in Darker that helped me out made the game so much more fun and easier to learn.
great! that guy was really cool and it always feels good to show a totally new person the ropes. hope you have a great weekend :)
you're the most humble pvp player I ever came across with!
awh shucks
This video really helped me. I have been playing the game for around 10 hours and got stucked on the loop of equiping a single green item, wanting to go minions in goblins or smth like that and simply getting my ass kicked by experienced players. As a fighter, this video was awesome, im sure people would enjoy 24 gear build for all classes!
thanks for the comment! I'm really glad this video helped :) good luck in the dungeon!!
He stikes again!!! Blinn you are the best.. once again You have broken down what we all wam to hear/know about sword/board fighter!! Please keep the hits coming!
haha awesome! lots more counter-attacks to come, for sure! always great to see you brother
this video is good man, love your commentary.
hey thanks, I appreciate it!!
nice channel bro, i've been learning a lot from you in the last 2 days!!! def subscribed!
hey brother, thanks for the sub! you were 800, that's a lucky number!
Thanks for the tips dude. Just started playing, gearing up with starter armour and wondering why I was seeing so many juiced players. That under 25 tip is a good one for starters. Cheers 🍻
nice!! good luck in the
Great vid, will help me out in the dungeons a lot. Liked and subbed!
awesome!! welcome to the channel :)
Good video man, love the way you're thinking outside the box with bringing item swaps in.
Forgot to add, for stealthing, I heard holding shift to walk is quieter than crouching. Crouching is faster though.
hey thanks!!
@@YourBoyBlinn One more thing I thought of was using spangenhelm over crusader helm for your agility and dexterity. With spangen you lose out on a little bit of defensive stats but gain 3 movement speed, to get to the same movement speed wearing the crusader you would need +6 agility.
@@danielh2037 ahhh an excellent recommendation, I'll keep that in mind for future builds! thanks for the conversion tip too.. +6 agility is a lot to make up the diff!
@@YourBoyBlinn yeah, someone told me it was 2 agility per movement speed. I just double checked it, it appears to be 1-1. So 3 Agility then haha..
Love your playstile, would really like to see how you do against your counters like slayer fighters. Keep up the great work (:
yes, slayers are a challenge, mostly because they have fast downward swinging attacks that get get 'over' the shield block. takes a lot of quick mouse movement and anticipation to be able to block their attacks. good new is: they're pretty squishy! good luck out there friend :3
Those were some top-tier ambushes!
thanks! it's a really fun way to play and glad it's also entertaining to watch >:)
As a fighter main this help alot ty bro 😊😊😊😊
right on!! shields up brother & good luck out there
Love your fighter stuff
yay!! thanks for letting me know
I love the way you explain and give gold nuggets of valuable info like blocking the axe traps or the visibility on the late goblin cave. As a new player that is starting to play fighter thanks a lot!
Could you recommend a build under 24 for longsword?
glad you appreciate the little nuggets haha :) sadly I'm nowhere nearly as skilled or versed with the longsword.. for that you need to head over to master oggieson! www.youtube.com/@oggieson
@@YourBoyBlinn Thank you!
question, why do you prefer the grand brigantine over the doublet? A green doublet offers 1 more dex, and has a much smaller move speed penalty. As I see it the doublet provides .5 more effective dex (2 agi on the brigantine translates to 1/2 of a dex point) and 8 more MS (roughly 2.6% MS difference), but at the cost of like 2-3% PDR in the overall range of 15-25% PDR range. This translates to like 5-6 effective health (for example difference between 19% PDR and 22% PDR WRT effective health is 4: 115 + 115*.19 = 136 and 115 + 115*.22 = 140). This makes it appear to me that the doublet is superior. LMK if there's something I'm not considering.
I'm certainly not this technical or well-versed with the nuances of game stats! it definitely looks like you know your stuff :) my choice for the Grand Brigandine in driven by two main factors: the higher PDR makes me *feel* tankier, as in I have more personal confidence getting into a melee exchange with a falchion (for example) because I believe I can take a few hits & make a few blocking mistakes with a slightly heavier armor (rather than feel like I'm on eggshells with a Doublet). Secondly I love how it looks and that aesthetic backdrop gives me great pleasure in the game (why not win in style?!) haha not to say the Doublet doesn't have excellent tailoring! It does!! Just a personal choice. But thanks so much for explaining how some of these stats convert to real values in other terms, I appreciate the insight!
@@YourBoyBlinn I totally agree that perceived tankiness can absolutely increase confidence and cause one to play better. Also how scary your guy looks might make an opponent play worse, so maybe the brigantine is worth it just for the mental attitude changes it causes in you and your opponent. Also 5/6 effective health is absolutely not nothing, I'm sure there are plenty of times where you've won fights and only had

@@BornToKill780 thanks BTK!! didn't expect this kind of reception & hope the vid helps new players get into melee combat. I really don't like the MS/ranged/kite meta so we gotta be the change we want to see haha
thank you for the vid helps the timmys alot. love it when people are playing fighter how it supposed to be played. also did you know if you use the lantern shield and the perk (barrier) you still get the 50 armore and magist resistens. also when you wanna play with the lantern i recomend you use for low pdr the arming swort but when you are in a lobby where people have higher pdr i recoment the warhammer because the 20% armore piercing does apply on the lantern shield too.
hey there, thanks!! good tips on the lantern shield, appreciate it!!
Used to run this build all the time. The trick is to time adrenaline rush just before you block. If you do it too early you'll catch the debuff, and if you do it too late you dont get to capitalize off of counter attack since you get stuck with the animation. If you time it right you should get a guaranteed 2-3 hits with the arming sword. I also liked running the flanged mace for the armour pen. The counter attack shield mastery combo with adrenaline rush makes up for its slower attack speed, although it is easier for the enemy to block. I also prefer the round shield as it's a comfortable middleground between the heater and buckler, and also doesn't block your entire FOV when you hold it up, allowing you to make adjustements to your enemies swing. Another tip for newer players is that you can block an attack before its down swing if you collide with the handle of the enemies weapon and this is actually the optimal way to block. It will require you to get real close and "stuff" your opponent sometimes jumping into their player model. Ryan6daysaweek made a great video that will help you visualize it. This build is the perfect counter to barbarians as all their weapons are easily blockable and have large handles.
awesome comment & good callout to hilt blocking weapons! I need to get more comfortable being super close to my opponents to make this a reliable part of my combat strat. also agree the round shield is more comfortable, but I've gotten used to the heater shield's higher blocking power and don't like to be staggered by falchions :) good luck out there friend!!
@@YourBoyBlinn thats a good point. I remember falchions being difficult to deal with and they are pretty common. Maybe I should give it another go with the buckler or heater this wipe!
@@BarelyGoodTV yes totally recommend! sounds like you've already got a good foundation/familiarity with blocking, and will be cool to see more skill expression with shields in the community. can't just be ranged damage & MS all the time!!
Hey Blinn, from reddit coming back to comment 😂 first match i died to a weakness shriek bard, bless me some luck 🙏
welcome friend!! I wish you good luck in all the adventures to come -- shields up & see you around :)
Awesome guide! I started running your build last night (I modified it a bit though) and I am having huge success with it in PVP! I wish more people made videos about builds that are below 25 gear score. Alas everyone else just makes videos about builds that cost thousands of gold for them to work. Any chance you could make a build guide for Warlock for lower than 25 gear score? I am having a hard time making a budget build that works for it (other than torture mastery warlock which is really boring).
hmmm asking me to go to the dark side, are you?? haha I have like 7 total hours as a warlock, so I might not be the best dude to make such a guide.. but maybe one day after this next block of content is done & posted! always appreciate your comments buddy!
Dude this was amazing. It's taken me a day and a half to fully understand the game and things around it.
Not saying the video isn't clean but if you made a stream lined version of this along with a few tips(not equipping pots) I think you could blow up as the lead video maker for dark and darker.
The only TRUE problem with this game after the hot fix is finding the information. A lot of "ultimate guides" that are just ramblings.
I'm willing to bet if you got the video into a 20ish minute range and name it something a bit more commonly search your video would be the number one stop for new players.
To clarify by the search thing I think the title is great but you don't really search the term gear based matchmaking until you decide you wanna go down the rabbit hole of DAD and find out about the patch etc.
If you get it short, punchy, in order of experience of a new player and give it a unique but relatable search title. "How to progress in DAD or the gameplay loop of DAD" you seriously will be on top.
Best mental note when making the video is the first time they find you they don't wanna be watching your videos they want to be playing the game, BUT if you provide that information so they can get back to it they'll quickly return when the feel frustration or are generally taking a break but need that DAD itch.
Sorry for the novel but this video was seriously amazing and I wish I found it WAAAAAY sooner and I almost didn't give it a chance after getting burnt out from trying to figure out the game. Much love and thank you
Also ik your title isn't gear based match making but for some reason it was the only way I found your video in the sea of junk
hey hey thank you SO much for all the content tips and other considerations for YT. there's a lot to take in, but I'm def not afraid of a bit of text :) do me a favor and keep an eye on my future stuff -- tell me if you think I've made improvements based on your comments, because I'm going to try it out!
Do you recommend perhaps as a pretty newbie go with almost the starting loot to fight pvp to learn?
yes, for sure! if you bring nothing of value in, you don't stand to lose anything!! (except all the stuff you find, of course). going in with only squire gear is a great way to learn, because you're going to die a lot in the dungeon
how do you meet so many people? im lucky if i meet 1
for raids where my focus is PvP, I move out of my starting module very quickly and don't spend any time looting for killing mobs. usually there's a module buffer, and then if you keep going, you'll find another player :)
20:18 imagine getting jumped by a guy from the darkness and you just see lights going out towards your direction, that shit is horrifying
>:)
The king is back!
hmmm less of a king, more of a shadowy knight? haha
@@YourBoyBlinn My head-cannon of your character is more of a grizzled mercenary who has lost too many comrades-in-arms to frivolous concepts like chivalry and honor... better to stick to the shadows and live!
@@tombofthememelich2192 Yeah haha, life on the mercenary road can definitely be dark (and darker) :P
Can you just not squire in a spear or halberd? Or does that get like unlocked through questing?
Squire gear will upgrade with new quests from the respective merchants, if you want it right away hang on to 15 looted blue weapons in your stash if the quests are the same as last wipe. That was the first quest last time. Also get a stack or two of cobalt for the armor smith.
@@jerkface666 jerkface again with the knowledge drop!! appreciate you so much

Could you try this on high roller again? I watched you play on high roller about 2-3 months ago but I feel the game has changed significantly and I would like to see how someone with much more Sword and Shield experience plays out high roller
challenge accepted my guy!! haha stay tuned :)
I like the idea of bringing in multiple different weapons for adaptability but you just lose so much looting space. Myabe it will be viable once they finally add backpacks. Also NEVER buy arrows!!
yeah I'm loving the flanged mace recently!!
VERY NICE VIDEO DEAR SIRE
OH WHY THANK YOU M'LORD !!!
U can drop the helm and join the lizard gang even when i don't like the idea of optimizing the gear to go hunting timies😢
By the way do u tried the war hammer? I found it better than the maze as it has less recovery time and more variety on the attack pattern
you can totally go lizard to save money/gear score on a helm - great idea!!
as for the war hammer, it's definitely got value in terms of armor pen, but I hate how short the range it.. my preference is for the range and more consistent attack pattern of the flanged mace, since I never try to go beyond swing 2 in the combo :)
What is a good perk/skill build for longsword? Im trying to git guud at parry and riposte combat
Don't run the 50% action speed on block. It's a trap for LS. makes the Parry window too short. Sword mastery, projectile resistance (cuz no shield) , swift, and counterattack is a good setup. (swift is optional but longsword struggles with followup hits often so that's what I run)
@@jerkface666 ^^ said it better than I ever could! appreciate you @jerkface666
haha jerkface beat me to it (and did a better job explaining the longsword nuances than i could!!) love this community :D

can u do this for all classes ? maybe druid or warlock next ?
hmmm appreciate you asking, but I'm only really experienced with fighter.. but I know the warlock can equip a shield, so that might be interesting for me to try one day... :)
It's tough because warlocks don't get counter attack so you don't really get the chance to take advantage of a block on other classes.
@@Rwnds7967 my thoughts on this exactly. when multiclassing was a thing, I tried running a shield build with Cleric and it was very hard to counterattack like I wanted to. feels like without the counterattack/shield mastery combo, shields are really only a defensive item, rather than a gateway to melee damage :)

the only way to access the market is to buy the legendary status for 30+ dollars?
Yes
you should be able to buy the common gear you want from the rotating merchant inventory -- marketplace is definitely optional for the low-gear normal lobbies! you'd be amazed by what you can find in the dungeon :)
Why is everyone so shocked that a company that spent time making a game wants to be paid for it? Do you think they're all homeless people that get their energy by photosynthesis? How do you expect them to live?
@@Michael-ue9usno I know that the devs need money, I just thought there could be some other way to access the market, relax
@@YourBoyBlinn ty for answering., your vids help a lot, great work
Rogue fighters dont exist they cant hurt you.
Rogue fighters:
bahaha couldn't imagine playing any other way!
YOU CAN BLOCK AXE TRAPS 😮
ikr SUPER CONVENIENT !! you can even longsword/lantern shield parry off them!!
Blinn started as a noob now he's clearing whole lobbies
slow & steady my friend!!
ABOVE 25 CAN NOT INCLUDE 25. WHY IRONMACE?
hahahahaha my initial thoughts exactly!!
why not falchion?
Falchion attack slower than arming sword and he focuses on dex to pull up the shield fast and the arming sword attacks fast
it's a personal preference! I don't like how slow the falchion swings and don't like that the attack pattern starts from the side -- I find I'm more likely to hot the wall or an obstacle with side-swiping attacks, so using the mace or the arming sword work better for me!
@@YourBoyBlinn thank you for the feedback!
With the buff to flanged swinging faster I may try it again on fighter. It felt super outclassed by swords coz you know sword mastery

who is mid maxing 24kits wtf is this
just wanted to demo how the GBMM system works and give people ideas on how to bring in choice pieces without getting dumped into the 25+ uncapped normal lobby. not so much min/maxing... more like a demo of how to use the little wiggle room available for gear!
It's bullshit. You put on ONE green and you're spawned in beside a sweaty with full blues and purps and they run straight through the dungeon taking out everyone trying to learn their class(you can watch their progress in the upper right corner) . What a fucking scam troll feeding this game mode ended up being. If I go in with base gear I have no problems with anyone. The moment I equip a fucken green weapon I'm almost guaranteed to lose my shit immediately.
wdym? Those 0.5% interaction speed from a green ring is op!
yeah, the uncapped normals mode (aka Mid-roller) can be a totally random experience.. sometimes you come across adventurous novices that don't know what they signed up for, and sometimes you hit a GigaChad longsword plate fighter who is basically impossible to kill. I strongly preferred the previous normals gear cap at common quality, but IM needed to do something to appease the flood of new players who understandably wanted some way to use all the gear they were collecting. growing pains my dude! good luck out there :)
@@YourBoyBlinn hopefully they add gear brackets to this game mode other than being below/over 25
@@somedude8728 i know right! seems a little basic just to have a split between 24/25
As soon as I heard they were catering to the f2p babies demanding gear in normals, I knew players were going to start minmaxing 24 gearscore
Yeah but honestly if you can't overcome a 25 gear score disparity it's a skill issue. I'll save my money and continue to crush people with my squire kits a demon lock.
haha yeah, good thing there's only a tiny amount of room to min/max within the 24 gear score. it's really just small optimizations then it all comes down to skill. still a good chance to make a vid explaining a few of the options fighters have, and showing that base gear can be used effectively!
@@jerkface666 yes totally. for the record, I deeply fear the demon lock! good luck out there brother and go easy on the homies with no shoes on

hey I have remorse!! it just isn't as strong as my desire for PvP victory haha >:)
Hey man this is some input just from watching your video that you may or may not want but incase here you go
1) your voice can be whispery and I think just speaking a little less breathy would help
2) If you smile a little more I think it would help you have the right lighting to make you seem more inviting
3) your camera I think would work best if it was facing you head on it kinda hurts the overall face cam thing if the viewer doesn't feel like you are looking at us
4) I know this costs money so obv its kinda wtv but a background like a green screen would be awesome I think to maybe help blend in your face cam to the video, I think this way you could get away with adding yourself to those moments where you zoom in
5) I really like the effect that you did where you added gameplay into the actual video as you explained the gearset but I think instead of using the audio from the actual fight a commentary explaining what you are doing would serve more for helping out begginers.
All of that too say these are just ramblings and if any of it helps thats awesome, I really like your style and I think that you could really be a face in the dark and darker community cause it seems like its on the rise.
awesome notes, thanks for sharing! allow me to reflect on your points:
1) I have voicebox issues that can cause a lot of discomfort, so this manner of speaking is the best fit for my throat, sorry!
2) I'm really not worried about appearing to be inviting or min/maxing my lighting, but again I appreciate this input as you're just trying to improve the quality of my output :)
3) I personally find it a bit cringe to 'face the camera' and address the audience, that's not the style I'm going for and am much more comfortable with a three-quarter cam angle that feels more casual and less formal/stuffy
4) I've got no space for a greenscreen setup and actually like that my background is so modest.. no colored lights, no set dressings, because who cares!? I'm just a person enjoying videogames and I like how this understated setup actually provides a counterintuitive point of differentiation for my content
5) are you saying you don't want to hear the audio from the gameplay clip as I splice it between other explainer footage? just trying to get a better handle on this point before I share my thoughts on any recos you have
overall I really appreciate you looking out for my content & your best wishes for the grow of the channel. it's caught me by surprise and a challenge I face is keeping things how I want/like despite the growth I'm experiencing. good luck out there!!!
@@YourBoyBlinn Hey my apologies about the voice thing I completely understand. All in all I guess the advice was a little out of place so my bad on that one. Idk why I felt like inputting but thanks for replying either way. As far as the gameplay Idk exactly how it works but I think the game audio would be fine with commentary layered over it. And again I wish you the best for your channel and it growth I hope you didn't take any of my comments as hate because it was an attempt at quite the opposite, good luck man.

Blinn at 18:54 you can take the potions off your fresh kills belt so it doesn’t glow and give away your position
yup! just move em into your opponents backpack (if you don't want to loot them). but advanced strat: leave potions on the belt of a fallen opponent to lure other players.. just hide in the dark and jump on them once they start looting the body .. many many players find it hard to resist
