Hey blinn, so I'm off work now, finally got an update for you, this in depth guide is really awesome and I'm doing really well with shield fighter, I switched out defense mastery for barricade, its helped me tank much more in the block, I've faced warlocks with a lot of success, mages, fighters, especially longsword users because of the drag attack, rangers are really fun to fight now, barbs aren't a problem since I switched second wind for perfect block. The only classes I struggle against is the shorts word slayer fighter, the bards and the rogues most times. I'm level 100 now and I reached 823 hours, 23 hours past my 200 mark, but honestly I must say I'm hooked on this playstyle, If you would like I would keep giving updates but I just wanted to say this has made the game much more successful for me. Thank you so much blinn
holy wow, thanks for keeping me updated! I loved to hear you run down the class list of opponents -- I can imagine every one! really happy to hear that most players don't give you much trouble at all! haha. for daggers, just try to stay calm, aim for the hand the dagger is in, and wait for the block (don't try and trade them). rogues are squishy and it only takes 2-3 successful blocks + counter-attacks to win most fights. same with slayers, just try to be patient and block first. really appreciate you tracking your progress over the past few weeks! hope that shield fighter makes you rich this wipe, or that you keep having fun into the late wipe. IMO shield fighter does struggle a bit as the gear gets more powerful, so enjoy it during this golden time! keep in touch if you want, it's always great to hear that people are having fun!!
Nice guide. I see a lot of videos on builds but they rarely ever actually explain the builds; it's always just gameplay and that isn't helpful for new players like myself. The depth you go into the build is very helpful.

Dude I have 1900 hours in game and realised I've NEVER tried this build for fighter. Woke up this morning and went "I'm doing shield fighter Saturday baby!" (it's saturday here in OCE lol)
Some interesting info about the shields is that each shield has its own recovey time from staggers like if you got hit bay a high impact power weapon on your shield the round shield would recover faster than a heater shield so keep that in mind when you are using different shields. The buckler has a very fast recovery so you can barely be staggered even on the heavy attacks
Buckler + Perfect Block = Blocking the Bear with Light Stagger (Heater Shield gets Medium Stagger, Pavise gets Light Stagger, Round and Lantern shields get Heavy Stagger anyway)
I've been playing with exact build since last week of previous wipe and current and i love more people are noticing it. Its a very strong build melee. Great video
Great video and I agree sword and board fighter has a lot to offer, but I still think a good warlock or survival bow bard/ranger with just kite you to death, those guys are so cancer to play against, the ones that NEVER come into melee range and always just keep back stepping with max movespeed. Kinda like the way TheLorr builds surv bow ranger. Anyway this game isn't about winning every fight, just enough fights to be successful and progress, I think this type of fighter can definitely do that and its pretty fun, once again great video. Yappathon alert
hey I've got no issue with long, thoughtful comments! and totally agree -- really good caster warlocks and careful rangers are nearly impossible to catch, so if a player reveals themselves to be highly skilled, I usually just don't engage. thankfully most of the time they won't chase, and if they do, waiting by an open door, and then shutting them in a space space is a great way to force melee, and they really don't seem to like that! haha ua-cam.com/video/y4RaxvisV4I/v-deo.htmlsi=rBcMWvIIIVd6YipP&t=329
I share your frustration. I think the first moment of every fighter fight is deciding whether you ahould take your shirt off for the ms. It's the only way.
another tip, you ideally want to block just before the attack lands. A mistake shield users do is constantly hold block. This blinds you and also lets enemies know of your open spots. Save your block for the moment and don’t let your enemies know your open spots.
yes, but some of the faster weapons are always going to be 'ahead' in time.. and I've def lost some fights trying to react-block to felling axe, stiletto, arming sword etc. so for the faster weapons, there's almost no choice but to hold block to ensure you have the shield in position before the strike comes in!
@@YourBoyBlinn this is true, with faster weapons it’s definitely riskier to do what I said, though if you can pull it off more experienced players won’t know what to do. I can’t count how many times I’ve killed someone by just hitting their toes and open spots because they showed me them by constantly holding their shield. Also helps against curse of pain since it’s a hit scan and warlocks can actually still hit you if they put their crosshair on your body that isn’t covered by shield plus theirs a windup to the spell so you can time it. Oh and also I carried over this trick from chivalry 2 you can kind of buy yourself some more time buy moving the direction the blade will go. So if a falchion swings at me from the left, I’ll move to the left to give me more time before the blade lands. Still is hard but it makes things a little easier.
@@gevix6384 yes!! adjusting the attack timing by moving towards or away from the swing pattern is a great tip, I used to do that in Chiv as well! for Agatha!!
I watched this video. Made a fighter, level 1. Grabbed the defence perk for the quicker action speed on a block. Went in goblin caves and a barb came at me, I blocked all of his attacks and killed him, he had all purple clothes, legendary zweihander and 2 legendary rings... Bruh. He couldn't do anything.
this was super helpful, i was getting ready to uninstall the game. took out a rouge and almost another fighter using a halberd he was down to maybe 10% health. when he got me. i appreciate how you put this video together and explained it in depth.
Firstly, thank you for the amazing videos! Secondly, could you please comment on Flanged Mace vs Morningstar? Is there any other difference other than the +2 dmg on Morningstar as the moveset seems quite similar. I can't really decide whether it's better to run Adrenalin Spike with Flanged and Crossbow or Weapon Mastery with Morningstar and Survival/Recurve bow. I've seen you using both setups a lot but I haven't really find any comment on that so I would like to ask you whether it's just preference or whether there are some more thought behind it.
If I remember correctly, Blinn prefers the flanged mace for slightly faster swing speed (to fit 2 hits into counterattack before going back to blocking), and it has a more regular/easy to control swing pattern. Also he doesn't need Weapon Mastery to use the mace (so he can use that 4th perk slot to something else, like adrenaline spike). Although the morning star has better dmg, reach etc. he is more comfortable with the flanged.. (and that confidence seems to help him in the chaos of melee combat!) Hope that makes sense!
Really great video, have to give shield fighter a try now. I’ll reply with how it turns out, I’m a cleric main so this is not to different from what I’m used too. Also, I always thought buckler was the best if you can land your blocks with it, now I know I’m not imagining things.
awesome! definitely keep me posted as you give fighter a try.. coming from cleric you should be off the ground in no time! enjoy the faster swing speeds! haha
Played as this build for probably about 4 hours yesterday, had a great time. The speed the first swing after a block comes out at is insane, nobody is ever ready for it. I think with my play style, I prefer not to camp a block and rather go for a quick block into an attack. This means maybe I should switch out Barricade for Weapon Mastery so I can use a Morningstar for a little more damage and slightly better range, while retaining the armor pen of a mace. I would love to know your thoughts, and thanks again for making this video, I didn't know this was possible.
@@MrCreeperKicker absolutely awesome comment! highly reco morning star you've already got some experience with it. the range is sooo nice. just be careful fighting longswords, since I find it's a little more difficult to drag around the parry because the morning star has a faster release swing (compared to the flanged which seems to 'hang' in the air for a bit longer) and the morning star attack combo angle change can have you aiming for the hands. good luck out there friend!!
I am trying your build for the first time! I usually play Longsword, and the counter attack with both perks and high action speed is so fast its taking me a second to time it properly!
yes! more Will = longer buff duration bonus, in addition to more magic resist, thanks for calling that out! here are some tests I ran earlier in the Summer: ua-cam.com/video/Ht74IDhNayw/v-deo.htmlsi=391sJCjy4Pf2yZ-b&t=36
Are you going to stick with the Crusader Helm drip or change to another helm now they've changed the dex + agi stats on it? Those Topfhelm and Visored Barbutas are looking kinda tasty now..
honestly there is a lot of flexibility with the build.. searching for your preferred helm with a +Dex roll is all it takes! I'll be flipping between crusader, spangen, and topf!!
I have a free account so I am basically stuck with common and poor gear. I have made some gear sets that can be informative to anyone reading this. The Dex+Agi set uses Spangenhelm, Leather Gloves, Grand Brigandine, Cloth Pants, and Adventurer Boots. I like to use this for dungeon diving in general. Then there is the Dex build that uses Barbuta Helmet, Leather Gloves, Doublet, Cloth Pants, and Turnshoes. I tend to use this if I am finding myself committing to frequent melee battles. The pure Agi build I use to chase fast players uses Chapel De Fer, Light Gauntlets, Doublet, Loose Trousers, and Lightfoot Boots. This build puts me slightly above 300 Move Speed which can catch fast players easily and scare the souls out of their corpses after I clobbered their legs into red jam. The gear sets are subject to change when I find something that works better. I will probably work on a heavy armor set once I get my friends to play. My current goals are to grind the race skins through Triumph Leveling, fully upgrade my stash, get better at dying less, and eventually buy the upgrade to Legendary.
Good point about MS not being the top priority in Duo's and Trio's, there are alot more factors at play. And I think the game is much more enjoyable as a result, the game is balanced around Trio's after all.
Before your guides I used to allways get destroyed in pvp, now I still don´t win but at least I figth back and last more than 3 seconds lol, I´ll keep trainning master
@@YourBoyBlinn Yo! it is not going well haha I have been getting mostly steamrolled but I am improving! After dying I am like one hit away from killing them so one less mistake and I win the fights.
I love using buckler shield with a sword, so you can use sword mastery and be faster while in blocking stance, allowing to chase rangers or rogues while blocking without losing movement speed. The downside is that buckers are harder to block, but easier to block barbarians with crush so you don't get stagger easily.

Dude I have 1900 hours in game and realised I've NEVER tried this build for fighter. Woke up this morning and went "I'm doing shield fighter Saturday baby!" (it's saturday here in OCE lol)
huzzah!! so awesome to hear!! good luck & let me know how it goes :)
Some interesting info about the shields is that each shield has its own recovey time from staggers like if you got hit bay a high impact power weapon on your shield the round shield would recover faster than a heater shield so keep that in mind when you are using different shields. The buckler has a very fast recovery so you can barely be staggered even on the heavy attacks
excellent points, I forgot about the different recovery times!! makes sense that the heater would take the longest to recover from a heavy stagger :)
Buckler + Perfect Block = Blocking the Bear with Light Stagger
(Heater Shield gets Medium Stagger, Pavise gets Light Stagger, Round and Lantern shields get Heavy Stagger anyway)
yes, and good luck if you try it against a 50+ Str druid haha
@@YourBoyBlinn tfw a chicken comes at you 60km/h in the air and turn into a freaking bear
yeah, just regular druid things! haha
top tier DaD videos.
thanks very much!!
I've been playing with exact build since last week of previous wipe and current and i love more people are noticing it. Its a very strong build melee. Great video
love the idea of seeing more melee in the dungeon!! many thanks for your comment :)

Beautiful guide with the shield build, I love it! Can you showcase more clips of you going up against barbs, I would love to see some war of attrition
thanks, I'll keep your desire to see longer fights against barbs in mind!
great video as always
thanks very much!!
omg cant wait to jump in with this knowledge!! thanks❤
nice, good luck out there!!
Very informative. Thank you very much.
my great pleasure!!
awesome video man love the shield fighter gameplay
thanks for the encouraging comment, appreciate you!!
few days new player and learned about shield tactics from your videos. Now trying to master this strat
nice nice!! good luck at the end of wipe, and beyond!!
@YourBoyBlinn i actually made some succes but still learning the game. Thanks for your videos !
@@yaroslavmoroz3349 my pleasure!
Thank you very much for this video!
thanks for saying thanks! haha
I have been wanting to try a pav8se shield bash build. Thanks for explaining the blocking mechanism to the newbies to the wipe.
my pleasure & good luck out there!!
RIP Crusader Helm
long live Spangenhelm!!
another tip, you ideally want to block just before the attack lands.

BIG W!! yeah solid shield blocking makes life real hard for most barbs... enjoy the loot & keep me posted on your adventures!!
this was super helpful, i was getting ready to uninstall the game. took out a rouge and almost another fighter using a halberd he was down to maybe 10% health. when he got me. i appreciate how you put this video together and explained it in depth.
my pleasure & glad to hear you decided to keep DaD installed, we need more melee in the dungeon!!
Clippy nailed it!! tysm!
Thank you, appreciate the content.
my pleasure!! good luck out there :)
You should be able to dual wield shield and do a slayer shield fighter haha
I WISH THE LANTERN SHIELD COUNTED AS A WEAPON FOR SLAYER
Great video, too bad they just changed the Crusader Helm today :(
I'll have to check the patch notes!!
First! Also shield fighters unite!!
shields up brother!!
@@MrCreeperKicker absolutely awesome comment! highly reco morning star you've already got some experience with it. the range is sooo nice. just be careful fighting longswords, since I find it's a little more difficult to drag around the parry because the morning star has a faster release swing (compared to the flanged which seems to 'hang' in the air for a bit longer) and the morning star attack combo angle change can have you aiming for the hands. good luck out there friend!!
i will try to climb leaderboard with this play for sure, thx to be my teacher
my pleasure, good luck this season!!
I am trying your build for the first time! I usually play Longsword, and the counter attack with both perks and high action speed is so fast its taking me a second to time it properly!
hah, yeah I often miss my first swing because it can be so dang fast!
30:30 You didn't mention that stacking Will makes your buffs last longer 😅
That extra speed duration on Counterattack and Sprint makes it even better.
yes! more Will = longer buff duration bonus, in addition to more magic resist, thanks for calling that out!

And I think the game is much more enjoyable as a result, the game is balanced around Trio's after all.
yes! it's like solos & trios are completely different games! so it's fun to optimize a kit for the different environments -- good luck out there!!
Before your guides I used to allways get destroyed in pvp, now I still don´t win but at least I figth back and last more than 3 seconds lol, I´ll keep trainning master
hah! don't worry, it takes a long time to find your feet in PvP!! keep hacking
Now that the crusader helm doesnt give agi/dex anymore, what would you use instead?
Spangenhelm! or look for Dex rolls on your favorite helm ;)
Great video, keep it up and I wanted to ask how you made the Dark and Darker fighter model in your thumbnails high quality?
hey thanks!! for the DaD model, I take screenshots from the lobby/menu, and then use Photoshop to upres and add sharpen effects -- seems to work ok!!

I love using buckler shield with a sword, so you can use sword mastery and be faster while in blocking stance, allowing to chase rangers or rogues while blocking without losing movement speed. The downside is that buckers are harder to block, but easier to block barbarians with crush so you don't get stagger easily.
mmm nice, good call on the buckler being quick for spacing while in defensive stance!! yay shield mastery!!
