I believe the higher gs cost for the ranged weapon you noticed is true for all weapons taking up both slots in your hands (two handed weapons, staffs, bows, crossbows, crystal sword etc.), and so if you bring a green longsword it's still less gs than a green flanged mace + a green shield for example also - seems like the chest / legs piece costs more gs than gloves/feet when green or better
its because 124 was added sneakily during the wipe instead of at the beginning like 24. They didnt want chads to instantly min-max in 124s so they tried to keep it under wraps but its been out for so long that every descent player knows about it so there should really be a tooltip now
@@Okamare so funny to try to keep this lobby under wraps.. all it seems to do is hurt the regular/casual gamers who don't know how to properly build for it!
The difference between the gear score for the mace and bow is actually that the bow is a 2 handed weapon the same goes for book and staff and the mace is a one handed. There is also a difference for if the one handed is offhand slot or not.
yes!! but a low-stakes kit, if you build it right.. just enough to give you a chance at PvP victory, but not too much that you have any kind of gear fear (hopefully!). good luck out there & let me know how it goes!!
My fave way to play this wipe. For the most part, even min-maxed, no one in 124 can have everything in their build. Sacrifices have to be made, which makes the game a lot less about gear and more about player skill.
6:16 i dont think its for ranged weapons, its two handed weapons. If you combine both a offhand and main hand of the same rarity, you will still go higher than with a two handed, so technically theyre more point efficient! 40:21 it would definitely be more fficient to skip on the helmet and use a beast skin, but i get that its also meant for people who dont own one
Great video. My favorite part was when you taught the last dude how to block properly. It was quite wholesome. It impresses me that you label each segment in your videos, it really gives a ton of quality. This way I can watch some of it and remember where I left off by the segments. I know it is a lot to ask but do you have plans to make fighter shield builds for the current 225 high-roller gear score? I am trying to get demigod and it has been hard to do so. I am barely 3/4 there.
thanks so much & glad to hear the video chapters add some comfort/ease when returning to the vid! don't currently have a video plan for the 225+ HR lobby, but this previous Buff Duration build might be suitable?! check it here: ua-cam.com/video/Ht74IDhNayw/v-deo.htmlsi=ncGvjUmenZN_kz4L&t=1522
Would love to see you try shield slam. When your block is crushed you can activate shield slam and it effectively makes the stagger go away, as well as making space and slowing down opponents if you connect
I prefer the low roller. I like the fact that everyone pretty much starts equal and it’s about farming up some better gear quick before taking the fight.
yes I totally hear you! only trouble with low-roller is that some classes (like wizard/ranger) are very disadvantaged in grey/white gear, and other classes (like fighter/barb) are very strong competitively.. so I find mid-roller is a good lobby if you want to get PvP practice vs a wider range of classes :)
Oh, good to know that buff duration actually works with second wind, here is cool piece of info shield bash ignores stagger so after getting hit by high impact weapon use it to negate consequences, so best with round shield, cuz lantern does that on it's own by riposting
keep in mind that Gear score doesn't care about range vs melee. A rare 2 handed range weapon is 60 and a rare 2 handed melee weapon is 60. if you use a 1 handed weapon it lowers the score, but if you have a rare main hand (36) and a rare off hand (28) it will be higher than a 2 handed weapon.
another small note since you only showed the boots. the 2x2 gear will have lower score than the 3x2 gear, but each slot will be the same score if it's the same size.
Great videos you're the reason I really got into shield fighter, but I truly think you're skrewing up not taking a bow and swift, it's just too versatile
You should do a shield bash build or run it in a build, you can use it while still staggered from being hit So if someone hits you with a high impact weapon you can instantly shield bash after blocking it
Thoughts on the shield bash/perfect block buffs this patch? I am interested in the idea of someone subverting the movespeed meta with a classic immovable tank build - forego Sprint and put the two shield skills together on a round shield with maxed PDR and MDR, maybe bring a crossbow to help against kiting. You mention a lot how important movespeed is for solos, maybe try your hand in some 1v2s or 1v3s to test your skill.
perfect block is definitely interesting & super viable! there are so many big two-handers going around these days, and bardiche players in particular are not used to (or comfortable with) having their attack combos interrupted :) so highly highly reco perfect block! shield slam is less valuable in solos play IMO -- feels like I do so much work to close the gap that pushing players away again seems counterintuitive. In duos/trios I could see more of a role for shield slam, but again it's so highly situational that I struggle to pick it confidently over sprint or adrenaline rush. def love playing 1v2s but have taken a break from that content in recent weeks to focus on developing more blocking skill in a slightly calmer environment, but here's some older footage you can check out from earlier this season! ua-cam.com/video/eyZgtNkB1LQ/v-deo.html
As someone who is pretty bad at shooting consistent shots with the bow I've started to use the windlass. It can scare away range players if it hits them and in melee if I see them coming it is a huge advantage in lowering their health by how much the windlass does.
I’ve been a fighter main since playtest 2, and I’m still loving it. Cleric is definitely better right now, and is always better overall, as in duos and trios a cleric is more useful to have than a fighter. Both fun, just kind of depends on exactly how you want to play
Hey Blinn, You should really try running Shield Bash + Second wind, Arming sword and sword mastery with the new buffs to the arming sword and the additional buffs to shield bash ( Using it while blocking) greatly improves the ability to outplay someone in a fight YOU NO LONGER NEED TO RUN PERFECT BLOCK as shield bash can be used after taking a hit from a high impact power weapon ( Bardiche, Zweihander, etc ) the delay effect from taking a hit can be reset with the shield bash. The arming sword buffs are minimal, however, when used with sword mastery it will out damage any mace type weapon despite the built in armor pen, you will also swing faster and have more variety in combat in choosing when to swing, block or shield bash i can see this being used with adren rush but having second wind against classes like bonk cleric, bear druid or other high DPS tanky builds, is a better choice as this allows a longer sustained fight and more ability for counter play.
wow, great recos!! it's nice to think that classic sword&board can actually out-DPS the mace, and I'm looking forward to giving this a try! you are totally right about shield slam doing double duty, both as a kind of 'perfect block' and also as an alternate attack option.. thanks for the thoughtful comment!!
a note about shotgun archers - for their shotgun to be accurate they need to jump and look down and it has quite a short range. the counter then is to get close to bait, and then look up to block it. I'm pretty sure you know this but just in case. Just don't get too close and get hit through your shield lol. Also a request if you wouldn't mind. Someone mentioned impact zone scaling, which apparently scales a weapons impact power down like damage is scaled down on sour spots. Have you seen this work ever? Could you test it with a buddy maybe?
good call on the shotgun tip! yes want to be close but not TOO close haha.. and I thin kI have felt/observed a different in impact power depending on what part of the weapon hits my shield, but will require some further exploration -- thanks for the comment & reco!!
My good man Blinn i'd argue will is less worth for you than you would think. It is the most versatile stat as it has a broad range of effects but unless you get the effect of magic damage the secondary effects are weak. For example will between 15-50 only gives 1% buff duration per will while as a secondary modifier on gear you can get 5-10% per piece on the highest roll. So a max roll for buff duration on a necklace is the same value you'd get from 10 will. The max you can get without will is +60% from all gear pieces and it's an inexpensive roll. I say focus on the top 4 stats as fighter. Your bread and butter
New player here, i was told one of the meta playstyles for fighter right now is a super agile build with a rondel dagger, buckler, and loose trousers, what are your thoughts on this? Are they correct, personally, once I tried this as a new player in lower/mid gear score lobbies I've been successful but I'm only about 20 hours into the game.
yes! dagger plate fighter is a powerful build, and def gained popularity this wipe! my issue is that it's really just another kind of W key, spam attack to win kind of playstyle.. most dagger plate fighters will carry a buckler and never think to use it haha. I prefer a little more back&forth in my melee, which is for sure more risky (and certainly why it's not meta) but I find it way more fun to win with a bit of skill expression, rather than straight damage trades, if that makes sense!?
Yes, it increases the duration of effect, also applies to health potions. Unfortunately, physical/magical healing do not apply to Second Wind. Max health bonus, strength, and vigor do increase the maximum health restored by second wind.
@@ghostcat2465 I'm a bit confused how the buff *duration* increase would change the 40% of max health you receive during it. To me it would seem like you would gain 40% but over a longer period of time, which wouldn't be desirable. But I assume I'm just misunderstanding something here, I'm not doubting you guys.
@@jtekholm The wiki article on healing has a useful formula for calculating the health received per second. We can only change the health per second by increasing our maximum base health, but we can increase the duration of the buff/enhancement, so you receive more health overall. Using Second Wind's 40% Percent Max Health Damage/Healing Over a Time of 12s with 10% Buff Duration on a Fighter with 100 Max Health: Total Duration = 12 * (1 + .1) = 13.2 seconds Total Heal = .4*100 / 12 * floor(13.2) = 43.33 health
Will you go over dex builds again, with all the changes? (In terms of getting affordable pieces, dex gear with action speed is expensive now) I'd love to do a zweihander fighter build, but i dont know how to make the right build around it
you got it! the ms penalty on the bucker is less than the heater, so it's easier to stay close to fast players in the chase! instead of an arming sword, you can carry a rapier or rondel for even less ms penalty when chasing! good luck out there!!

I’ve been enjoying Dungeonborne much more recently because of the imbalance of the game. I’ve never experienced getting two tapped no matter the gear difference. It is a skill based game versus dark and darker. In dark and darker you reach a certain point that 50% of the game is based off of gear. Soon as you pass over 125 the game becomes meta. It’s really shitty but it’s true. Unless all you do is play this game you will be shit on if they out gear you. I’ve been playing since the second open game test and I’m honestly waiting till the game becomes more balanced. All you have to do is look at the market and you’ll see how jacked this game is. Sucks but it’s true. Hence see firebox, he stopped playing the game until serious changes are made.
I totally hear you and agree about DaD.. and wow didn't know that Firebox is taking a break until things change, that's huge! DaD has real issues with gear imbalance and ultra-fast fights.. played a bit of Dungeonborne and the fights do feel better in some ways! for now I'll stick mostly to the
Drop the cape and go blue gear. That’s how you get the most stats per point. Copperlight where you can. I run blue helm, chest and legs, copperlight gauntlets and boots. Full blue jewelry. 50%pdr, 303MS 160hp on a LS 3/5 plate fighter.
@@YourBoyBlinn Well if u want to stick to fighter like i want, best way to go is to avoid playing with a shield, its sad i know, i loved it super much too but its just not worth atm. The dmg output is just to low with arming sword (got buffed 2 or 3dmg but dont think that changes a lot), daggers have not anough impact, many 2 handed weapons have to much impact the others like baardiche or halberd are ok, one handed weapons are mostly not played, just maze and morning star from cleric. Plus shield is super buggy atm, so often that u get dmg and then block (often by piercing weapons like rapier, spier, first attack from longsword) or enemy strickes right throug your shield like maze or morning star. (idk buggy or smth dont ask me) And every dmg u get that u dont block is a bad trade, because u dont punish, like u want to do with shield, dont get dmg and punish with a little dmg, but when u miss u get little or up to huge dmg. So eveen if it would works rn its a high risk high reward, like longsword parry (just not so high risk but lower reward) but longsword block works instead of shield...
@@YourBoyBlinn thats a hard question since i dont know what performance changes they do during next wipe. But as u might see fighter is generally stronger in Early game and lose power the more he is geared (compared to other classes) wizzard for example is the complete opposit, super weak erly and gets beast when geared. Thats btw one more point against fighter because casters are his weakspot and the fact he lose strength in lategame and his natural enemy gains power make this effect even worse. In my opinion best way to go would be Bard or cleric, but cleric is a little bit worse in solo since he is so slow compared to bard for example, but i thought u like to be more tanky cleric should be your call here. But both perform good in solo bard even very good, and very good in teams. Sorry for my poor english its not my main language.

yes!! but a low-stakes kit, if you build it right.. just enough to give you a chance at PvP victory, but not too much that you have any kind of gear fear (hopefully!). good luck out there & let me know how it goes!!
BLIN YOU GOT 6K VIEWS MY BOY im so proud of u dude

haha yeah that guy was great!
FIRST! keep at it blinn!!
first duos buddy! first Executive Board member! first in my heart Wolf
Another classic Blinn W, love to see it
hey thanks very much!! hope to see you at the board meeting tomorrow ;)
My fave way to play this wipe. For the most part, even min-maxed, no one in 124 can have everything in their build. Sacrifices have to be made, which makes the game a lot less about gear and more about player skill.
my thoughts exactly!! IMO skill is more interesting than gear!
6:16 i dont think its for ranged weapons, its two handed weapons.
If you combine both a offhand and main hand of the same rarity, you will still go higher than with a two handed, so technically theyre more point efficient!
40:21 it would definitely be more fficient to skip on the helmet and use a beast skin, but i get that its also meant for people who dont own one
thanks for the additional info! always learn so much from YT comments :)

I killed a Ranger last night while playing around with Shield Slam and the Pavise. It was pretty funny watching him fly partway across the room.

Would love to see you try shield slam. When your block is crushed you can activate shield slam and it effectively makes the stagger go away, as well as making space and slowing down opponents if you connect
working on it right now! haha
5:35 bro is the two handed vs one handed, not ranged vs melee lul still good video
thanks for this! lots to learn & YT comments are the best!!
Range weapons are 2 handed. GS on 2 Handed melee is the same
hey thanks for this, helps me learn faster :)
With the gear score, the bow cost more because it takes both main and offhand slot
ahhh gotcha, thanks!!
Oh, good to know that buff duration actually works with second wind, here is cool piece of info shield bash ignores stagger so after getting hit by high impact weapon use it to negate consequences, so best with round shield, cuz lantern does that on it's own by riposting
nice tip! yeah had people mention that about the lantern shield riposte, but didn't know shield slam could be used the same way!
keep in mind that Gear score doesn't care about range vs melee.
@@yuselescount2913 thanks!!
an excellent point, thanks again!
Did you find the best informative video about fighter builds??? YES I DID. 👍
welcome in!! hope the build guide helps, and feel free to ask any questions -- people around here are super helpful :) long live melee combat!!
Thanks Blinn
my pleasure!!
Great videos you're the reason I really got into shield fighter, but I truly think you're skrewing up not taking a bow and swift, it's just too versatile
the first build uses a bow!! and you're prolly right about swift, just like the idea of barricade but I'll consider mixing it up, thanks!
You should do a shield bash build or run it in a build, you can use it while still staggered from being hit
So if someone hits you with a high impact weapon you can instantly shield bash after blocking it
will def give this a try this week!! thanks!
It can scare away range players if it hits them and in melee if I see them coming it is a huge advantage in lowering their health by how much the windlass does.
yes! just gotta get used to carrying it and shooting straight!
I can't decide whether to start with a fighter or a cleric, they both seem so fun
depends if you're playing majority solo or with friends.. cleric is SO GOOD in team play, fighter is amazing in solo, IMO :)
I’ve been a fighter main since playtest 2, and I’m still loving it. Cleric is definitely better right now, and is always better overall, as in duos and trios a cleric is more useful to have than a fighter. Both fun, just kind of depends on exactly how you want to play
@@garagejesus Probably gonna go with Cleric then, I love the paladin vibes of smiting your enemies and healing your homies.
Hey Blinn,
You should really try running Shield Bash + Second wind, Arming sword and sword mastery
with the new buffs to the arming sword and the additional buffs to shield bash ( Using it while blocking) greatly improves the ability to outplay someone in a fight
YOU NO LONGER NEED TO RUN PERFECT BLOCK as shield bash can be used after taking a hit from a high impact power weapon ( Bardiche, Zweihander, etc ) the delay effect from taking a hit can be reset with the shield bash.
The arming sword buffs are minimal, however, when used with sword mastery it will out damage any mace type weapon despite the built in armor pen, you will also swing faster and have more variety in combat in choosing when to swing, block or shield bash
i can see this being used with adren rush but having second wind against classes like bonk cleric, bear druid or other high DPS tanky builds, is a better choice as this allows a longer sustained fight and more ability for counter play.
wow, great recos!! it's nice to think that classic sword&board can actually out-DPS the mace, and I'm looking forward to giving this a try! you are totally right about shield slam doing double duty, both as a kind of 'perfect block' and also as an alternate attack option.. thanks for the thoughtful comment!!
a note about shotgun archers - for their shotgun to be accurate they need to jump and look down and it has quite a short range. the counter then is to get close to bait, and then look up to block it.
Have you tried shield bash since the latest buff? It’s able to be used like every 6 seconds
I'll be looking at it during the Board Meeting tomorrow!
Your bread and butter
ahhh thanks for helping me understand! better to go for the additional % rolls on the gear, rather than the base stats -- I'll keep that in mind!
Wait... why and how did that achilles strike still stay active after hitting the shield?
hunh I think I noticed that too..?
@YourBoyBlinn makes sense!
Does buff duration really improve the health you gain back from Second Wind, as it is a percentage of health you gain over time?
Using Second Wind's 40% Percent Max Health Damage/Healing Over a Time of 12s with 10% Buff Duration on a Fighter with 100 Max Health:
Total Duration = 12 * (1 + .1) = 13.2 seconds
Total Heal = .4*100 / 12 * floor(13.2) = 43.33 health
appreciate the informative response here!!
ooo nice maths!! thanks!
Can I use morning star instead of mace? Or is it a bad idea
yes you can! morning star is very powerful and has long reach, just swings a bit slower... it's all about personal taste! good luck!!
30:20 oh the irony
out rogue-ing rogues is my absolute fave >:)
Will you go over dex builds again, with all the changes? (In terms of getting affordable pieces, dex gear with action speed is expensive now)
I'd love to do a zweihander fighter build, but i dont know how to make the right build around it
I'll consider this for early next wipe! good luck out there!!
31:15 so the buckler & arming sword are for times you come across ranged / casters? For movement speed?
you got it! the ms penalty on the bucker is less than the heater, so it's easier to stay close to fast players in the chase!
instead of an arming sword, you can carry a rapier or rondel for even less ms penalty when chasing! good luck out there!!

IMO every fighter build needs a crossbow or bow. The class is a jack of all trades, including range. Melee is just a piece of the puzzle
agree, that's why the first build makes sure to include a bow!!
@@YourBoyBlinn but not the others?
@@TheSlofish Blinn got most of the time a stealth gameplay, that made long range weapon less mendatory. But u free to take a bow if u prefair i think its fine.
@@Ax-now I think @YourBoyBlinn would have more success in uncapped lobbies with a bow on every fighter build. I also wanted to mention strafe back hopping as you don't really do it in the video.
@@TheSlofish in high gear lobbies if u wanna perform as fighter u have to play a lot with bows, kinda boring imo, why not just play ranger than ?
Ive been doing a ridiculous Magic Resistance barb build where i do all anti magic gear, light aketon, dashing boots, the MR rune gloves, barbuta helm, torque, iron will build. Even though magic is rarely a problem, its funny to run into a mage and just take so little damage. I reach 50%ish reduction
sounds like a dream! haha
why choose flanged mace instead of morning star?
I like it for the faster attack speed out of the counter-attack.. but the damage and range are certainly worse than the morning star!!
its so hard to want to learn other classes since a lot of the content isnt nearly as informative or helpful as a lot of what I see here. Trying to find videos explaining what stats or items are important for other classes is a pain xd

at the 22:32 fight vs the zwei, you said it was tough without your perfect block. you light stagger zweis without it lol. perfect block does not impact the fight w/ or w/o
hunh, feels like I get an advantage from the longer reset vs Zwei from using perfect block.. even if not, it's a psychological boot for me haha
@YourBoyBlinn well the wiki says it shouldn't, but it could be wrong. You could check frames to recovery with your editing software
I think if you play defensive Cleric you can destroy the lobbies with smite.
would love to give it a try some day!!
DaD has real issues with gear imbalance and ultra-fast fights.. played a bit of Dungeonborne and the fights do feel better in some ways! for now I'll stick mostly to the
white weapons, green armor and rings, blue necklace and cape. this way u get the most stats per point of gs.
for Bis you get max hp rolls on everything
@@JoshButterJamal ahhh interesting, thanks for the quick summary of gear combo -- will def give it a try!
@@garagejesus this is prob better for bdr fighter. I run cape cuz I like to run max true dmg and an extra hp roll.
Best way to play fighter this wipe is to dont play fighter this wipe.
Believe me my fighter is lvl+400 and i used his tactics bevore he started playing DnD.
can you elaborate? I'm curious!
@@kitthey4963 can you explain why? and what other class/build you recommend for the remainder of wipe?
Finally second wind will fighter is cracked
