The only mod I consider absolutely essential to Attila is one that changes the fertility issue so that it reaches its minimum fertility sooner, stays there for a certain amount of time, and then recovers part of the fertility rather than permanently staying at minimum fertility.
@@markus_gold I know it's a feature, but it's also an "issue" in that the player has to adapt their game around it. I'm not saying it's a bug or unintended.
I never use crossbows in Attila except in sieges (really effective on barricades). If you're gonna corner camp i'd recommend using archers and/or (big) onagers and manually shoot flaming or explosive ammo to cheese
I remember playing WRE a few years ago in tryhard mode. No abandoning settlements or changing the religion... That was a nightmare, I needed to play all the minor settlements battles and yes 5-6 copy paste battles x turn.
I remember just focusing on settlement battles to wipe out as many units as I could to win in the long run, I won battles were whole barbarian army was against my small garrisons just by blocking streets with testudo and hiding my light cav that had 600-1000 kills. I even joined ERE wars just to eliminate as many factions early game.
I found fighting the same broken defensive town battle so fun draining I deinstalled Attilla and never looked back. Something about this game is just not fun, despite having a lot of interesting mechanics.
@@cc0767 Attila is a good game in general, with many fun mechanics but it has a huge flaw that is what makes it not a fun game. If that's not bad enough that the AI of other factions focus on making your life miserable, you have to add the rebellions as well adding more misery and suffering to the player.
@@Hollex28 I dont think its actually good, too many mechanics solely made to punish the player, just broken battle mechanics and cav does not feel as good as in rome 2. Also all units from all factions are essentially just a grey blob.

@Steel It sure is. There is a mod that disables the immigration for the WRE. It costs surprisingly little wealth and removes the public order debuff. I usually play the WRE with this mod on, since it's very possible to conquer the entire map before Honorius turns 50. If you hire some young generals and have them fight enough, you can build a solid officer corps and have a fun game (without losing any battles) on any difficulty. I can really recommend modding some campaigns, mods like these are part of how I got over 6000 hours in ATTILA and another 3300 in ROME II.

Pretty much nearly ohmost down fall from the Western Empire but clearly if you try to make allies like with the Germanic barbarians to not declare a war on you like in first turn on legendary diff even i manage some how manage to won the battle on britannia even most people saying "you must abandoning Britannia" but i decided to refuse to leave Britannia even the picts from north were pain in the ass like 4 massive armys comes in when you have 1 general on Britannia holding up the north and building a massive garrison to preventing saxons to invade lungdmum *London* with Building the vileage too Town or either Colonia Settlement with 2 or 3 Garrison building upgrades to defend and then you will focus on the Barbarians in Germania as you can even you will have massive rebellion on Hispania if you manage to win it in battle.
The fact that Auto Resolve gives you better results in Offensive Siege Battles than you can achieve manually is really annoying. Id like to play them but it just doesn’t make sense.
It's mostly because he's playing Legendary difficulty. But autoresolve has always been a crapshoot in balancing for Total War games. It's either so bad that it's completely pointless to ever use unless you have a absurd advantage already, or it's so good that having even a slight advantage can often be better than fighting the battles. If you're all about min-maxing autoresolve is either going to be your go-to mechanic or something you stay the hell away from. If you just like fighting battles and use the campaign map to enable that, then whether it's good or not is superfluous.
Who wants to play same defense over and over? i think autoresolve is exactly for when you have crazy advantage or when you dont really care about outcome :D
everyone trashing attila crossbows but nobody talks about cheiroballistra - what do you do with it? :D Sometime its good if you get flanking shots on infantry or snipe enemy general but over all that unit was totally useless in my hands, maybe good bait for cav charge. Id often disband it to get literally anything else. Also - how much did you paid huns for military alliance? :D
It's called positioning. If you can't position crossbowmen properly I expect you'll likely get fucked over by archers in Empire Total War if you ever played that.
@@markus_gold Yep, if they're having issues with archers they should let their shielded infantry soak it up while in the proper formation. They'll just waste the enemy ammo in Attila. Shields are crazy good in that game.
