    Cheesy as that final victory was, you can pretty easily spin it into something interesting - with the majority of the professional garrison defeated, Caesaraugusta's last defenders nevertheless held out: a final line of civilian militia and archers, untrained but determined to defend their homes.
    Imagine the humiliation of your rampaging warband being defeated by housewives with butcher knives.

      @@Anonie324 You can see a bunch of civilians walking around on the left side of the screen around 11:22 (might need to pause/frame-by-frame to see them properly). Attila town maps are full of them but once the enemy gets near most of them run into their houses, with a small handful taking up arms and rushing them instead. It's purely cosmetic, the actual soldiers kill them every time they get in a fight, but it really makes the maps come alive. iirc if a house catches fire you can also sometimes see a bunch of people running out of the burning building.
      If you want a closer look, I've also got another video from close-up of a civilian trying and failing to fight the enemy (it's edited to tell a different story, but she ended up getting into a fight shortly after the video ends and dying. RIP): ua-cam.com/video/mJo4hXSA1qU/v-deo.html

      "As the more professional defenders of Caesaraugusta broke and ran, they were subjected not only to the scorn of the enemy, but of the townspeople, who hurled insults at the retreating soldiers before grabbing whatever they could use as a weapon and running to fulfil their spot on the defensive line. The Roman commander, in his chronicle of the event, made special note of several such townspeople, including a 'woman, armed with naught but a meat-knife, who used it to gut three spearmen before the battle was done...' These townspeople are credited by the same commander as saving the defenders and the battle."

    The trick is on Turn 1 you march your army into their territory, discover the Vandals, and then offer the Vandals to join their war against the Alamans. This way you bypass the alliance. Then you hire some mercenaries and wipe out their army in the field. Then you can bring the two stacks in Gaul over and destroy the Alamans Turn 2.

    • @Yrridian
      @Yrridian  2 роки тому +14

      I could see that working, but money's always tight and there's just so many potential enemies across the central European border that it's hard to know which ones are worth dropping coin to take out early and which won't be much of a threat. I personally tend to save those kinds of moves for Africa and Britain, where there's a small number of factions you can knock out permanently and never need troops there again.

    • @nms8397
      @nms8397 2 роки тому +1

      @@Yrridian I vassalize Africa, they tend to move their armies away from their settlement leaving them open for a quick subjugation strike. They also tend to stay loyal. I hire mercs and destroy the Caledonians, Alamans, Quadians by turn 2. After that I'll usually try to knock out the Saxons or Franks depending on the situation.
      Money is tight but you can disband the more expensive mercs (like axe & cav) and keep the cost effective ones around (pikes, bows, slingers).

I love the game to death, I think there is something amazing about fighting incredible odds and then turning them in your favor. Though performance issues and bugs are still quite prevelant in this game. One of the things I've learned from a long time spent in Total War: No battle,
    I REPEAT, NO BATTLE. IS UNWINNABLE. Treat every battle like you can win and you'll always do a lot more damage than going for damage, and you'll win a lot more often than you believe.

    On the last fight with Swordsman.... Don't put in your archer. If they break, your swordsman can break due to seeing archer fleeing too.

    honestly, having never played these older TW games, I'm kinda mad at Warhammer 2. Look how dope this settlement map is! Large, lots of routes, BARRICADES? The hell!

      And tbh Attila has way better graphics than wh2. Its kinda sad that the devs got lazy instead of improving what was already there, like the sieges and so on
