YOU'RE A LADY
Now the evening has come to a close
And I've had my last dance with you
On to the empty streets we go
And it might be my last chance with you
So I might as well get it over
The things I have to say won't wait until another day
You're a lady, I'm a man, you're supposed to understand
How these things are often planned to be
You're romantic, I'm a fool,
You're the teacher, I've come to school
Here I sit and hope that you'll love me
You're pure magic, unlock my chain
Nothing ventured nothing gained
And so I say with no restraint, be mine, be mine
Hard to answer this I agree
But then I've got to know
I'm not asking you to marry me
Just a little love to show
Oh I know I could make you happy
So the things I have to say
Won't wait until another day
You're a lady I'm a man
You are suposed to understand
How these things are
Often planned to be
You're romantic and I'm a fool
You're the teacher, I've come to school
Here I sit and hope that you'll love me
You're pure magic, unlock my chain
Nothing ventured nothing gained
And so I say with no restraint, be mine, be mine
And so I say with no restraint, be mine, be mine - Розваги

"I'm not asking you to marry me, just a little love to show"
How beautiful and sad.....
So beautiful, so understated, so ignored by many stations. Loved it in 1972 still do. Thanks for posting.
Wonderful Peter Skellern..what a talent..RIP
Although I was born in the early 1950's I find this music to be evocative of music from previous decades - which I loved. Peter had a wonderful singing style and a beautiful voice. Thanks for the upload
Beautiful song ❤
Absolutely spine-tingling. Memories flooding every time I hear this forever, forever CLASSIC!!
Fabulous song
So lovely
I love this song. I first heard it in 1972, whilst driving from North Wales to London in my little green Mini - had to pull over to the side of the road to listen to it properly. I’m immediately taken back to those days whenever I hear it. It brings back so many happy memories. Peter Skellern was a much-underrated performer and songwriter. RIP sir.
Music like this never dies
What a classic unforgettable song, 1972 i was 17 and looking for love. Thanks Peter. Never to be forgotten.
My stepdad was a DJ for hospital radio a great many years ago - so he had a wealth of music (which he still possesses), and I first stumbled upon this absolutely brilliant track when I was 12 - 1990. It was on a cassette (sadly I can't remember the name of it). I still absolutely love the brass band - and then I heard Stilgoe and Skellern and loved them because they were a real corker and I loved listening to Stilgoe taking the mickey out of this track with his own lyrics, which Skellern played along with obviously. The only other pianist that I reckon was also a great was Dudley Moore, and his demise was also a sad and tragic one. Such miserable and horrid endings for such very talented and wonderfully gifted people that gave others so much joy with the things they did.
I've always loved this song and am ecstatic that I found more of his music through it. So sad he died so young and so early.
Beautiful song!
I hate brass bands, choirs and love songs....and yet I love this song. It's superbly written and arranged. I really like his unassuming voice, the melody, lyrics and arrangement. Peter Skellern was a genius.
Sorely missed. RIP and thank you for the music...🙏🏾🤎
So evocative of emotions when separated from a loved one. The orchestration is beautiful, the sentiment a little soft, but overall a beautiful song.
Gorgeous
Sublimely gentle.
What a song from a completely underrated singer song writer you can hear every word unlike todays rubbish where the so called singers feel a need to screech and scream into a microphone
So beautiful❤❤❤
Loved this and his album hard times..George Harrison said got best voice ever. Now that says something about this man.
RIP the wonderful brilliant beautiful singer/ songwriter, Peter Skellern, still so sadly missed
never forgotten.

Avevo 15 anni e solo ora, a distanza di molti decenni, la mia memoria l'ha tirata fuori. Mi ha fatto ricordare com'ero allora e come sono oggi. 😥💔
Tis is a beautiful brilliant piece of music,I loved this song ,and it stood out against the new era, glam rock ,the sweet,t rex , Bowie,Slade.etc

Greetings from Ipswich Suffolk
Such s great song , always has been my favorite.
Sweet memories of Peter Skellern :-)
Muito linda! Bons tempos, que quem viveu essa época sabe. 😔
Loved this when it first came out and I still love it. Great words, a great tune, what's not to like? I wrote to BBC's Martin Holness who had a programme called "Anything goes" because I wanted to hear it again and didn't know the name of the singer and he played it for me.
Yeah, kind of a odd track but nevertheless it just fits so great together and I love it as well. Thanks for commenting.

Brilliant!
One of my best memories from the 70's. Never get bored of this song. Which instrument plays the high note in the introduction? Euphonium or Baritone? Fantastic sound for someone who likes brass bands.
Love the song. Beautifully done 🎶
What an absolutely superb song. Takes me back far too many years! As others have said, the brass band really adds something to the song - just wonderful. So sad though to read that he died relatively young. Thanks for the memories.
Yes, it was a hauntingly beautiful song. I was 17 when it was released. I had a crush on a boy in school and had my heart broken for the first time. Paul murphy, if you see this I was the boy who called to your house drunk to declare my love. I'm sorry that this must have upset you as you had exams the next day. I wish you well, Ger.
Yes very nostalgic. With the brass and almost religious choir

Nostalgique .. Quelqu'un aurait t'il les paroles en Français svp, c'était notre chanson avec une ancienne amoureuse Belge de Courtrai en 1973 !
