  • Harry Edward Nilsson III (June 15, 1941 - January 15, 1994), known professionally as Nilsson, was an American singer-songwriter who achieved the peak of his commercial success in the early 1970s. His work is characterized by pioneering vocal overdub experiments, returns to the Great American Songbook, and fusions of Caribbean sounds. A tenor with a 3½ octave range, Nilsson was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists of his era to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours.[2] The craft of his songs and the defiant attitude he projected remains a touchstone for later generations of indie rock musicians.

    My Dad loved Harry Nilsson, especially this song, he was a medic in the Vietnam war, born in 1948, he would have been 74 in 2 days. I lost him 11 years ago and I play this song and sing along as if he is right here with me. I won’t let him leave my love behind ❤️

    I was 18 years old when this song was released. The Vietnam war was raging on and I was scared that I would be drafted. I had a beautiful girlfriend.

I'm going now to hear George Burns sing I Wish I Were Eighteen Again... and the tears that want to fall now... will flow. May I close with a saying from the old times... Peace. Waiting for a departure date in 1970 for emigration to sunny Queensland Australia, this was the song that kept us going. Leaving dreary winter in England "going where the sun keeps shining" and where "the weather suits my clothes" was an anthem that we have never forgotten. Yes we "skipped over the ocean like a stone". After 51 years....still no regrets! Thank you Nilsson RIP

      Michelle Stolz -your response got me snooping. Never heard of this day and I am a Leo. What a brilliant song. Its almost as if took on the persona of Glen Campbell when he wrote and performed this gem. It’s been way too long since I heard it and makes up for the trauma I suffered as a result of “Like A Rhinestone Cowboy.” It’s a long story but suffice to say, 8 track singles should have been banned by bus companies in the early 70’s. That’s all I have to say on that subject.

    In the early 70s, when my friends were buying "Tiger Beat" magazines and swooning over David Cassidy, my heart belonged to Harry. It still does!
    My first love (and only "true" one) reminded me a lot of Harry, and he also loved his music. "The Lottery Song" was OUR song; he was a plumber and we did save up and take that Summer trip to Vegas... and we were very happy for 8 years.

"I'm going where the sun keeps shining through the pouring rain." He didn't have a father around when he was growing up and he grew up poor. He became famous and then all his money got embezzled by a heartless person. I hope he's in heaven hearing us all rave about him and his songs.

      That's so beautiful, thank you for sharing that. I was also just a tot when it came out, and share a fond nostalgia for that time. And for some reason, an overcast day puts me in mind of this music; being in the house instead of playing outdoors...maybe because back then it was an actual act to play an LP on the stereo, or to turn the radio on and have it fill the house, instead of just pressing "play" on the appendages we've grown i.e. our smart phones. xoxo

      @lisaheisey6168 4 роки тому +2

      @@just4music687 Thank you. And yes, I agree. At my nan's house, the radio was what she listened to only her music on, and if the stereo was on then it was my aunt's or uncle's music playing. So many of my earliest music memories are attached to a particular moment in time, such as where I was, what kind of day or night it was, etc.

      Nos compraban ropa solo para el 18 de septiembre o en navidad si es k había dinero si no, no.
      Los zapatos nos duraban toda la temporada de colegio y la ropa nos la iban heredando de hermano en hermano.
