    AAAAYYYYY There it is! Thanks for all the effort into this one man! Really enjoyed the context for all of this. The one thing I'd add from my own personal research/experience is another perspective on the Magnum Opus, which some refer to as the philosopher's stone, and even alchemy in general. Many people believe that true alchemy actually occurs within the practitioner. "To change one's mind is to change the world" would be the best way to describe the concept. They believe there are many levels of such alchemy, starting with basic action bringing ideas into form. Then this leads to human's capacity to create controlled chemical reactions. It culminates, when purity of intention is established, with the capacity, supposedly, to modify form with thought itself. The prime example of this would be Jesus turning water into wine and creating fish for his followers. Just an interesting perspective I picked up along the way that I thought you may find intriguing. = ) Love ya bro, thanks again for the great video!

    This is by far the most in-depth and comprehensive video that I've seen on the mythology of Noita. Very well done! It's nice to put these things into context that otherwise I've clearly only had a cursory grasp on up until now. It just makes the game that much more interesting and it really goes to show just how much thought and love the developers put into this game. It's almost kind of mind-blowing how deep it goes and how they tied everything together like that. They didn't have to do any of that and Noita would still be an amazing game. But they did!
    EDIT: Forgot to say what I originally came to say: Thanks for the video! It's clear you also put a lot of work into it and piecing everything together, which I know all to well is a task in and of itself. Good job, keep doing what you do

    OMG I JUST RAN ACROSS THIS ARTICLE: www.abandonedspaces.com/mansion/the-initiation-well-at-quinta-da-regaleira-near-sinta-portugal.html
    It's about a medieval "inverted tower" meant to initiate Templars into Hermetic mysteries; they had to descend down into this well in the dark, find their way thru an underground maze, and then ascend another similar "tower" to complete their initiation! The article even has a very familiar quote near the beginning...

    Just another theory to throw in this amazing piece of work, is that Noita itself is allegory for a path alchemist must take to finish great Work. Like, through earth (mines), fire (coal mines), water and air (frozen and jungle biome is both look like a mix of this elements) and through the temple of Art.
    Though, it may be the part of allegory, that taking straight path will live you ignorant of other aspects of Art, but taking all of the side paths and gathering knowledge will make your journey harder.
    I don't think Noita protagonist is a particular witch- just a random seeker of true Knowledge.
    And in the end room, where you activate this "all into gold" gear, you can see hands, as if it still from some fps, so the whole process might apply to changes within the alchemist himself, if that makes sense in my bad english.

    • @foxholeartist
      @foxholeartist 3 роки тому +3

      *and in finnish mythology, this world we live in, is actually illusionary world- not the real one. So making this allegory, when all the game happens inside the true protagonist (who is, ultimately, the player himself) is may be a nod to that part of illusive nature of what we think reality is

    I think the games story mixes with its gameplay so well, with how mysterious the Wand system is and how big the world seems at first , only for experience to broaden your horizons further while making it all seem less daunting is a masterclass in storytelling via games. Especially in a genre with so many games with no real story (minus a select few such as hades) having a deep underlying myth is a strong point less people admire, really loved this video man I was waiting for something like this relating to noita! 😀

      Tuck V Well and, I might add, respectfully said. I fully believe that a respectful and faithful depiction of those beliefs and cultural mythology could (and should!) be done, but also agree it could be easily exploited and corrupted. I wonder if there are any Native American/Indigenous/American Indian game creators out there working on such a project?

    • @vineheart01
      @vineheart01 3 роки тому +4

      i was thinking of this too.
      Native Americans have some pretty in depth stories and beliefs that by outsiders standards (i.e. non-native americans) can be quite psychedelic at times. If done properly, it could be a great basis for a roguelike story.
      Issue with using Native American is the people in those stories are still alive, nobody truly believes in norse/greek mythology anymore so accidentally doing a pretty piss poor job is usually overlooked while for the native americans it could be a legit insult if done wrong.

    • @TheActualMrLink

    So, the lore can be summed up as general mythology plus specific tales, and how they interact in the game's world?
    Wait how **is** that world called?

    • @LetsSufferTogether
      @LetsSufferTogether  3 роки тому +2

      Aye, although Alchemy, from what I understood, took very little influence in the way of Finnish Mythology (unless anyone wants to send me the way of some good history :) ). Hense why a forced connection via the game via the sampo worked so well outside of any historical context. They just had similarities that coincedentally work super well together

    Wanted give a lil detail that noita used mean a kinda shaman,it became witch with christhianiazation of finland,which in my opinion gives more depth to their idea cause a noita knows the souls origin and so speaks it to command and use it for good or evil whatever they want,so this is a view of noita as controlling the alchemy elements by learning their origins and find this add more beauty to their use of Finnish polytheism and alchemy

    Just quik note. I have heard version of stolen sampo before, but the version i am familiar Sampo was not stolen, it was traded for Louhis daughter. But once the daughter died heroes thought sampo should belong to them and went to get it back. And also in my oppinion Louhi is not evil. She may seem wicked from perspective of folks of kalevala but i think she is just cold and hard bussiness woman.
