    SPOILERS
I find it interesting that the first of the 3 eggs rolled away and "cracked" instead of properly hatching. From that same egg came life, death and nature, but would things have been the same if the egg had simply hatched? Maybe nature would still have come out, but "perfect" without the hindrances of life and death (that seem to be the consequence of the egg cracking). So maybe that is why alchemists are looking for eternal life, they are trying to find the "true nature", what life would have naturally been had the first egg not cracked.
In that sense, turning the whole world to gold seems to eradicate life and death... then maybe the Noita truly is a creation of alchemists, a creature trapped in an infinite cycle of rebirth until it can complete the work and eradicate life and death.

It makes much more sense if the player were aligned with NONE of the gods, because you fight the agents of all of them in the game. The agents of nature; worms and other animals, the agents of technology; the Hiisi and their machines, the agents of magic; all those wizards you fight. If you were an agent of magic, surely the mages would be on your side.

I want to point out that the true ending of Noita is bringing peace to the world.
The Sampo in Finnish mythology was a symbol of wealth and prosperity, granting peace to those who held it. The Sampo is said to have had the ability to produce flour, salt, and gold out of thin air. In other words, it was essentially an infinite source of resources, allowing people to obtain whatever they wished for.
When the Sampo was stolen, the kingdom fell into chaos. In other words, the world became imbalanced.
In many parts of the game, the witch is presented with an opportunity to complete "The Work," but all but one of these "works" is false. The most notable "Work" is the work of the alchemists long gone, who wished to turn the entire world to gold. In the main ending, you are completing their "Work," but you are not truly saving the world.
In the 33 True Orb ending, however, something curious happens. The Sampo is renamed "True Knowledge," and its description clearly refers to it as "the completed Work." When used at the Sky Altar, the Sampo magically "restores" the world, bringing happiness and prosperity back to all of the creatures of the mountain. And thus the world is balanced once more.
This brings me to my conclusion: the story of Noita is a story of the forces of magic bringing peace back to a world where prosperity and joy has been lost. The forces of magic, nature, and technology are at war in the caverns, represented by the player witch, the cave creatures, the Hiisii, and the robotic entities in the Vault.
At the bottom of the mines lies the mighty Three-Eyed, hoarding the Sampo that the alchemists so desperately wished to use to transform the world into gold- and with it, a portal to complete the alchemical Work. But that is not the Sampo's true purpose.
With the gift of True Knowledge, the witch repairs the true Work, the Sampo itself, and brings peace and prosperity to the land once more. That is what the story of Noita is about: the ambassador of magic bringing balance to the forces of magic, technology, and nature by restoring the world with an artifact of prosperity and hope.

Someone mentioned below that the player is possibly the agent of technology, rather than magic or alchemy. However, they mentioned that despite the use of wands, they must still be the agent of tech. But I notice now that one of the scriptures mentions nature being given technology with the hatching of the third egg. The wands don't seem to really be magical: They have numbers, stats. This leads me to believe that wands are not magic, but technology, where a spell is a "digit" in an algorithm. An algorithm that is made of the spells + the stats of the wand.
Thinking back on it, the lore says the third egg came last, bringing technology. But in a later video, Fury suspects the Hiisi of actually being an alchemist creation. The attacks are literally spells, but simple. Inefficient. Poorly made higher up and increasingly more dangerous as you go lower, closer to the Work. The player also finds spells of great power the lower you, but the power does not stop at the work, and wands also seem to stall out at some point. Spells, on the other hand, are unusable on their own and must be powered/focused to be activated. Concentrated Mana is the key to this whole theory as it directly enhances wands! The icons over two of the new single-use perks are the very same as the CM crystal icon, seemingly implying some form of crystalized mana is the solution to the confusing problem of how the wands actually work.
The combination of alchemy, magic, nature, and technology is what makes the player so powerful. But what part is technology? The wands have not been described as far as I know, so I don't what they're made of or how they even function. But it seems to me that they are most likely Technology, powered by Alchemy, that casts Magic to change Nature.
Another thing: These perks, are they magic? Or alchemy? Or technology. Same for spells. I feel like we're so focused on the background lore that we're not asking the most important questions: Why is all this here, right now, in so many different ways. Why are the perks there? Shops, too? Who are you even giving that gold to? A god? If so, which god is selling you perks/spells for GOLD? Wait, gold? What kind of god cares about gold? Oh. Perhaps not a god. An Alchemist.
I apologize if this is a bit long and convoluted I had to rewrite this a few times and it will likely be buried, but I can dream of being pinned, eh? :D Thanks for the fantastic content as always Fury!

I don't think the Noita was sent by the alchemists. As the only non-enemy character in the game, I think the Noita is acting independently. I think the alchemists failed at their work and were either corrupted or cursed by the gods to become what they are now.
Seeing as Hiisi are also able to use wands, I imagine it doesn't take much skill to use wands.
It's possible that the Noita is an experiment by or even a child of one of the alchemists which is why they have the same robes and why they want to obtain the Sampo, but I got the impression that the alchemists became those monsters a long time ago.
You do have to be special in some way as the only one who can use the portals to the Holy Mountain and the only one that the gods get angry at (whether or not it was intentional).
    Also some things I noticed:
I don't remember if you mentioned this ever, but the tablet next to the lava lake talks about how money, specifically "silver and gold", mean nothing to a person in constant fear of death, so medicine is invaluable , which indicates that these are the two objectives of "alchemists". The two secret liquids happen to allow you to use something dead to create gold and create a "medicine" that heals you.
Before 1.0, there were 2 minibosses in the game. 1 in the Pyramid, a place that seems to represent the egg/deity of magic, and 1 in the underground jungle, a place that seems to represent the egg/deity of nature. There are a couple new minibosses in 1.0, but still none that represent technology.
The Noita also can't use technology. The Noita can use magic. Because they have a stomach and are able to be sick, I assume the Noita is an "animal", thus "part of nature". Only Hiisi can use technology though.
This could be because Hiisi are more technologically inclined creatures while the alchemists were a race of more magically inclined creatures before they became what they are.
This begs the question: If Hiisi = Nature + Technology and Alchemists/Noita = Nature + Magic, what is Magic + Technology?
I could be overthinking the trinity or maybe wands are supposed to be technology. Idk, but those are my thoughts.

For what it is worth I haven't played a ton of Noita, nor do I know all the secrets, but I think the fact we aren't given a purpose or mission tells us a lot. I personally like the idea that we aren't any specific entity, but a curious wizard/alchemist following in the footsteps of those that have come before him. At this point, I only just learned I don't need to get turned to gold after the final boss, so maybe the fact we get to choose our ending lends to the idea we only interact with these gods and factions because we are trying to change our fate and break a cycle.
Btw I love all these lore videos, keep up the good work.

To me Mina is an aspect of death and destruction. Everything you do as Mina is chaotic, against the rules, exploitative, destructive, and every step you take is absolutely soaked in blood. All of the most upfront and easiest endings result in the complete destruction of the world. To not destroy the world you have to go very, very far out of your way. But in doing this peaceful ending you will most likely have killed upwards of like half of the inhabitants of the world, including a lot of the faction leaders, and you will have most likely ravaged the world to peices during your efforts. So it's kind of like a peace through death kind of thing..
I think what ever created the world of noita sent Mina to end the squabbles between the factions.. by killing everything in her path, with zero remorse. Why else would gold spawn on the bodies of the deceased. It's Mina's reward, for doing her duty.
Or Mina represents the natural and inevitable creation of insanity. A free agent in opposition to the natural order, or what has become the natural order, of the world. Turning the entire world to gold, including yourself, is some seriously chaotic natural shit..

My theory on Noita's lore is that the Noita is actually a failed experiment of the alchemists and that is why they creatures in the ancient labratory want to kill you.
The reason behind why the Noita is a failed experiment and not everything else in the AL is because the mobs there bear the ability to use magic without needing a wand or something to cast magic with.
Alternatively, both the Noita and the mobs of the Ancient Labratory are failed creations and the alchemists are trying to find a balance between being able to control magic and not being driven mad by magic (which could be the result of the AL mobs.)
This could also explain why there are some AL mages in the Temple of the Art since they could be on a journey to get the Sampo.

  • @YellowMageMarsail

What if we are the Agent of Technology? We show up last, just as the last Egg is shown to be Technology. Magic and Nature disagree, which lends credence to the theory that we are an Agent of Magic, however, we can also increase the Love in the world and even befriend the Stevari. So, I propose the thought that Perhaps the Noita, while capable of using Wands, is the Agent of Technology. After all, do we not fix wands and spells, and gain hints to acquire the lore via an Anvil? A "device" of the Hisi Base?
SPOILER EDIT: What's even more convincing to me is that the Noita is sent to complete the Work, which would be another idea lending to the fact that the Noita serves Technology in some way.

    (Lore Spoilers)
    VVVVVVV
I was quite shocked when I saw the new late game enemies in Noita. I definitely think now that the 2nd lore possibility mentioned is the truth. However, what interests me is what the pursuit could possibly be. The sampo holds such great power, but they decide not to wield it and instead push it further. It’s probably some Finnish mythology stuff that I don’t know, or maybe the answer is already clear.
What’s also interesting is that it redefined the end goal in a way. Since all the alchemists are seemingly either dead or distorted beyond saving (???), you seem to have free will, but do you really? Is there still a responsibility to uphold? Is it completing the work? Was it even possible to complete the work when those runes in the orb rooms were written? Turning the world to gold is worthless, as there is no use for that gold and everything else is gone. Perhaps more updates will reveal more. I think it’d be cool if we could somehow find an alchemist that is still alive, or maybe we’re supposed to be the only one.

I feel like Noita is an alchemist afterall, despite commonly accepted theory that noita is an agent of magic
it makes more sense - we already see mages of various studies below the mountain, but we see no alchemists; yeah, some enemies throw pots at you but they didnt delve into the alchemy itself, we never see enemies combining elements on purpose (I understand that may be a game limitation or smt else).
Imho, the alchemists were below the mountain before, hence the vault, the laboratory, temple of the art, statues and other places/things that indicate some sort of culture tied to alchemy, but 3 gods took it from the alchemists and we are one of the alchemists who survived and is going back (or ofc a new alchemist who followed the path alchemists made before) to take the sampo and finish the work, which was interrupted by 3 entities. This also makes sense - 3 entities dont want everything to be gold, hence they are defending the sampo from the hands of alchemy and when you screw around with the temples, you anger the gods. Wouldnt make sense if you were able to anger the gods that (one of them anyway) sent you there.
Also, it is obvious that various things ranging from wands and potions to the temples werent ment to be used by noita - when we take a wand/potion/perk/item the pedestal bleeds, showing corruption, and the temples collapse after use, showing that we are probably using them improperly.
So all in all, products of 3 entities allowed humans to exist, evolve and figure how to transmute things. And now the 3 entities are fighting what they, by accident, created.

It feels like the player could be either a regular alchemist doing what they do, that is attempting to complete their life goal or how they call it, the Great Work, or a descendant or emissary of the gods that was tasked to retrieve the principle of Salt and return it to the world, cuz it kinda seems like the big guy snatched it for himself(this applies only if the item the boss guards is still The Salt. Big guy still is kinda sus tho).
Then there are the emerald tables, which to some extent seem to refer to or cite the real tabula smaragdina, they often mention one of the three alchemical principles which are Mercury, Sulfur and Salt. That, I think, confirms that the ancestors who left these tablets and glyphs were alchemists/gods of alchemy, or perhaps it could be Herm Trismegistos himself(he is often said to be the god Thovt, and there was/is one tablet with his name) the supposed author of the tabula smaragdina.
Thats just how these things feel to me, I'm open for a discussion

@@muffininacup4060 Your theory makes a lot of sense actually, with the pedestals bleeding and temples falling it really doesn't seem like the gods are on our side. So maybe they purposely removed the principle of salt so the world wouldn't be all gold, but couldn't destroy it because it is required for the world to function properly, so they made the boss guard it instead?

The great mill that churns the three fundamental parts to happiness - Salt gold and flour is not only akin to the legendary philosopher's stone pursued by alchemists throughout the ages but the name Sampo itself apparently has to do with an old idea about a Great Pillar of the World that connects a dome-like realm of heaven to the disc-like realm of earth while the Northern Star acts as a great nail on top of all three. The visual result is somewhat akin to a hotel service bell.
Sampo being the one thing that connects all the parts and holds them together is something that we most likely will pursue eventually in the story of Noita as well, the combination of magic and technology.

I feel the Noita has some kind of link with all the agents (possibly made by all the gods) being able to use all 3 but at a much weaker state then the rest of the creatures.
Weaker because unlike the magic monsters, we cannot cast magic without the use of technology, the wand unlike the Hiisi we cannot make technological traps or machines but have the ability to use said wands, just like them.
finally, the creatures of nature are all much stronger then the Noita. The Noita has to put in effort in-order to get as strong as them, probably the trade off for the gods working together to make something and not wanting it to be too strong and destroy a world it doesn't care about. So they force the Noita to "lay low" as to not be killed, while providing holy mountains to make sure you are still able to push forward to do your goal.

I know it's a little late, but I'd like to throw my idea out there too. I think the Noita has affiliation with all three of the Trifecta - Nature, Magic and Tech. They are a living being, as a connection to Nature. We know this because they bleed normally, whereas undead style creatures spray bone dust. They have a soul, as they clearly have some aptitude for magic. This connects them to the Magic. Finally, I was thinking about how the Noita could be affiliated with Tech, when I realised; the wands. We see the strongest Magical faction, the Wizards, are able to cast spells and engage with Magic without the use of wands, but the Noita can't. Wands may be a Technological customisation to Magic's gift, as Magic did to Nature by giving every entity a soul. Besides, we see the Experimental Wands can use spells in the exact same way as regular wands do, so there's clearly a connection there.
All this makes me think that the Noita is an Alchemist, possibly from the same sect we see in the game. They share similar uniform, and similar abilities/limitations. My 2 theories would be that the Noita is the Alchemist who hid the Notes on Grand Alchemy behind the fungal/evil eye walls. The Damned Alchemist in the bunker may just be a former colleague who seeked to recover the knowledge this Alchemist fled with, who got trapped and perished in the bunker. This then begs the question - why was the Noita spared when the other Alchemists either turned to stone, or became undead? The Gods may have inflicted a curse upon the Alchemists for their meddling with the Sampo, and left the Noita alone as they retired from Alchemy well before this. Or the Alchemists did that to themselves, but that wouldn't explain how one got into the bunker.
My personal favourite theory is similar; the Gods cursed the vast majority of the Alchemists for meddling with the Sampo, and conspiring to destroy the world with the Work. The Gods, however, still needed to retrieve the Sampo, and either refuse to work together, after the events during the creation of the World, or can't due to the missing Sampo weakening them. Thus, they left a single Alchemist alive - the Noita. The Noita probably got the shortest straw here - they are cursed with the task of returning the Sampo, and restoring the World in the God's stead (only they didn't really explain anything). Every mistake, every failure, every death has happened to this single person. The Gods have enough power to restore the world to it's unbalanced state whenever the Noita dies, to bring them back, and give them another chance at completing their task. This would also explain why the Gods are so quick to anger, and to blame the Noita. Being an ex-member of the Alchemists responsible for this whole mess, they are already in a bad mood with the Noita, so to speak, and this is only exacerbated by being forced to work with the other Gods, whom are probably still squabbling after the whole mess that was creation. The Noita being a single individual would also make sense - the Orbs of True Knowledge shouldn't be familiar to someone who's never been there before, and a newcomer wouldn't have the same level of knowledge as the predecessor.
So yeah nah, love this game, and love your videos. They've really helped me get better at this, so thanks man.

So I find the ideas behind the mythology really interesting. I can see multiple different interpretations. The ways 'Magic' is described make it sound more like it's really just our *perception* and *categorization* of Nature. 'Magic' seems to give materials the qualities *we* ascribe to them. An alternative interpretation is that 'Magic' is the addition of rules to matter formed by nature; 'Magic' is just all the properties of magic that let it do things. Because of the 'soul' description, I think I favor my former interpretation more than my latter one.
This leads into my next reading of the text: 'Technology' is the synthesis of 'Magic' and 'Nature.' Humans categorize and interpret the rules of the natural world in order to utilize it towards our own ends. Technology is just using the rules of Nature to make things with purposes we value.
    BUT HEY, TH-

I think you are the conjunction of all three: magic, nature and technology. You descent upon this world to get to know the history (emerald tablets and lore snippets), obtain true knowledge (13 orbs) and complete the Work, so that once in conflict, all beings can be at peace. That's what 13 orb mountain ending stands for. I find the portal spawned by the final boss to be the final trap, similar to completing the Work with insufficient [true] knowledge, which also brings doom upon the world.
That also would explain why other beings attack you. You are the essence of all three and they see in you parts of something they hate.
That would also explain why 7 More Love perks cause everything to be at peace. 7 combinations: nature, nature + technology, technology, technology + magic, magic, magic + nature, nature + technology + magic.
