I find it ironic that one of the few places left to get journalistic integrity is now from UA-camrs that let's face it use clickbait titles and not the so-called mainstreet media. Keep fighting the good fight.

  • @mattp6089
    @mattp6089 25 днів тому +11

UA-cam reviewers and commentators succeed by identifying with their audience. You value reviewers who generally steer you right. Hence despite the one-step-removed nature of making a decision about whether to part with money based on a review, get it from someone that has a financial interest in giving you the straight-up review, rather than someone that has one in promoting a company's product.
So if it still comes down to make a good product and reap a good reward, then nobody is to blame for failure but the creators.

This is a relatively new practice/tactic. Did you ever see a movie star or executive attack Siskel & Ebert for their movie reviews? Nope. Those guys used to rip into movies like there was no tomorrow, and would disagree with each other and get into heated exchanges.

Boggles my mind how companies and studios are acting as if criticisms and reviews have only existed since the invention of the Interweb. Reviews and criticisms have been around since the dawn of humans. For entertainment - Siskel and Ebert reviewed / critiqued Movies for decades. TV Guide and various entertainment magazines reviewed and critiqued movies and TV shows for decades. Tech magazines such as PCWeek, eWeek, Computer Shopper, etc review and critiqued Tech for years.
I've seen some brutal reviews by Tech mags on big companies such as IBM, Microsoft and Apple for releasing horrible tech.
I remember reading some brutal opinions by Tech reviewers on the performance of various Tech CEOs such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.
If the opinion / review of one person can destroy a company, perhaps the company needs to re-evaluate the product that is being reviewed.

The problem is not with UA-cam reviewers, or reviewers on other platforms; the problem is a lack of accountability. It used to be, that people took pride in their work (some still do, of course) and they produced quality over quantity; Quality was job one, quantity came afterwards. Now, people want to produce, produce, produce, and quality of work is strongly lacking, if you find it at all. The entire point of an honest review, Is That It Be An Honest Review...The weird thing is, if they built a really good product, the product would sell itself. No stress, no blame.

  • @Bladestar7

First of all, you have shown Integrity with your reviews of these movies and shows. They're just mad that you haven't sold out to them like so many others have. I respect you for that. Second: the idea that they are trying to blame you and other UA-cam reviewers for their products failing is just as ludicrous as blaming the fans. It's their fault for not putting out good-quality in their content. Not you or us fans. THEM. Your Integrity/Honesty is sound. Rock On, Snarky Jay. 🙂

Well, we all know that there's rumours surrounding each and every major project (unless it's done in complete secrecy) : do you guys remember the rumour that The Batman movie would be one of the worst movies ever .... before it's release?
And.... there's also some info that might indicate that the producers are having a hard time coming up with a good product, such as release dates being changed repeatedly or movie directors being replaced.
Yet, once the movie is released... it is what it is : it might be good and appreciated by a lot of people while being hated by some.
Or it might be a very bad movie with a lot of people lambasting it for its low quality.
Historically, some great movies have failed at the box office.
Bad movies deserve to be ignored.
Unless it's a bad movie starring Nicolas Cage... then I'll watch it anyways.

This goes more in tech UA-camrs. Like LTT a few months ago when they knew they were testing new tech the wrong way, then blamed it on the engineers. By the time the truth came out, the companies were scrambling around doing everything they could to save themselves. But their brand was ruined.
This doesn’t really go to UA-camrs who do nerd culture or anything else really.

I follow mkbhd because I am in the tech industry. I think he is one of the most honest and ethical people on UA-cam. If there was someone I would like to be like, it would be him. He didn't go hard like you. He gave a fair review and then he followed it by reviewing another product in the same industry and the review was similar. The truth is that in the AI space, the products are not fully developed. To tell the truth, I would love to hear you review the same product and call it a piece of SH*T!! If Mr. Brownlee says something sucks, it sucks. If he says it is a great product, I will purchase it. Over a long period of time he has earned the trust and respect he has. When it comes to entertainment, I trust The Drinker and then you. Love to hear you rant. Keep up the great work.

There has been a war against any and all negativity or criticism... that's just where the world is at with its audiences and now corporations or big businesses can use that logic to fight any criticism they get. Hope it doesn't work but sometimes we see people defending their fave corporations so it's already kinda there

  • @raymondsmith6870

Thanks for being Honest Abe about all the perks of going to premieres and having to be honest at the same time. I can remember one podcast where the young lady was taken by Warner Bros to the London(England) Premiere of Birds of Prey which was quite splashy with a big afterparty following the film. Of course her review was that the movie was Aaaaawesome.
Just one nitpick though. Daisy Ridley didn't deserve any social media blowback but Tatiana Maslany and the creative staff on the show were doing the attack the fans and mock the viewers tactic from the get go so they are fair game for criticism. Though you should check out all the wildly anti semitic stuff said about Gal Gadot for neutral messaging about her country or Zoe Saldana being bombard by racist remarks for defending Chris Pratt. None of those came from fans of YT channels but just the general public online.

Except for the Godzilla x Kong movie which I happened to enjoy 😊 but what I love about you is that you don't bash those that like or love something you hated, and this is why I'll forever be your fan ❤️

I think that’s what’s happening with Marques. The more corporations get up set with his reviews, the more credibility he gets. This is an easy hill to die on.

It's not your fault or any other UA-camr's fault recent entertainment is shitty it's the company's fault for not caring about the audience trying to force us to like their stuff they made to check off DEI boxes like you said. The people that run the companies & actors like that Tatiana Salami need to stop blaming fans & telling fans to shut up they are in major denial that their shit sucks, everytime I hear SheHulk it's like I got PTSD from seeing her and Magyn Thee Stallion twerk and everytime someone shows it it's so horrific.

Let's be real -- honesty and truth hurts. And that's OK. Because going forward, you either sulk and cry, or learn from the mistakes to get better. Embrace the failure, embrace the honesty.
And that's what reviewers of all shapes and sizes are meant to do -- inform the companies on what was a success and what was a failure. And, inform the general audience (i.e.: consumers) from their unique experiences and in the end letting the audience make the decision for themselves to either go see that film you didn't like or buy that product you didn't like for their curiosity. At the end of the day, weather I agree with some reviewers, I try to be civil.

This is actually a fairly serious issue. Dissent is essential in a free society. The ability to express a different point of view is vital not only for democracy but also for free thought. The ability to make a [profit should be the last consideration as this is an issue that involves out very ability to think and form opinions independently. People need the ability to debate the truth or else it is never discovered and lies are free to be sold as the only "truth." Truth is not a commodity that can be sold or bought. Seeking the truth is an ongoing process for any individual person and it is their responsibility alone to discover that truth.

Back in the day before the Internet, movie reviewers generally worked for newspapers, magazines, or broadcast news. The reviewers themselves did not pay to see the movie being reviewed. Sometimes the studio would sponsor it but usually the newspaper bought the tickets. So, what you do to review movies has a long history and is non-controversial. A reviewer’s honest opinion is what readers and followers want. You owe no one explanations and criticisms of critics is like the critics’ work itself, it’s an opinion. People need to lighten up and put things into perspective. Not blame reviewers for bad movies or products.

"If I let that influence a review, then every movie I've ever seen [...] would be given 10 out of 10. [...] You would think I was a f... sell-out, because you can't trust me any more." Well, you just described the dilemma for modern movie "journalists".

Hi. As a new UA-camr, I will never get blamed because I wanna be a star. I love your channel anyway.

No, Snarky we shouldn't blame youtubers. It's the elites, their executives, our government, and their arrogance that is destroying companies.

Toy makers, including Hasbro, have been sending packages for years to UA-camrs on the understanding that they give them positive reviews. This isn't new for the community. You can't really take any review one hundred percent genuinely, and must judge based on UA-camr's previous content, if they mean what they say. It's too easy to become a commercial for item/service/etc. A very good and hopefully eye opening (to some) video

Dune part 1 strained my brain and turned it into mush trying to comprehend the appeal that others saw in it.... p.s. normally a fan of sci-fi :/ ...as much faults as I found with the original Dune at least I generally liked the demeanor and acting better in that one, tho it was a little off kilter.

People listen to reviewers who have a similar taste in content. Like with any reviews, it doesn't stop me seeing something I'm really keen to see, unless the reviewer mentions specific issues in quality. But, saying something is great when it's not, is misleading, we lose trust in the reviewer. When someone like MKBHD reviews something, companies should listen and learn, not try to trick their potential customers, same applies to content from streaming companies.
