It's not that the Female version of Silver Surfer making an appearance actually bothers me. What does is the fact that she's appearing before the OG Orin Radd. Makes no sense, the original should always appear first.
Why sounds like it's just going to one of then they going to introduce the main silver later on if it was the other way around that would not be good because that means the female Silver Surfer would be the main silver surfer and if the movie plot goes what's out in the world at the moment the fantastic four is from alternate universe
Some other channel was talking about this and said that the plan was to have the original silver surfer killed off at the start and have the female version take his place. To be honest that sounds exactly like something Disney would do so I'm not holding out much hope but if it does go down that route I just won't bother going to see it. I think the only way you can actually complain about these things is by not giving them your money until they either start making what the customer wants or they go bankrupt.
@RobWBB I heard it was the other way round female Silver Surfer and fantastic four are from alternate universe where galactus wins and that's how they going introduce the fantastic four in to main mcu universe

The original will appear first in the MCU, snowflake. This is an alternate universe where they needed a Herald of Galactus who dies in the movie like the the female Silver Surfer did in the movie.

The Fantastic Four are from an alternate universe so maybe that is why they are going with a female Silver Surfer so they can save the male Silver Surfer for the MCU. Shall-Bal dies in the comic book issue she appeared in as the Silver Surfer so they probably had cast a female so they could kill her off with the death of her universe. Only the Fantastic Four escape into the MCU (and maybe Dr Doom?) Slow your roll.

These VILE agenda based super hero movies are getting OUT OF HAND! Modern Marvel movies are using "strong women" as a vessel to destroy STRONG MEN while spitting in the face of ACTUALLY strong women. There is a world where strong men and strong women can co exist and also where good story telling and characters of substance and depth can inspire others.
If they were truly “strong”, they wouldn’t be destroyed. Majority of people are not looking to be inspired. They are looking to escape and be entertained. Just because the loud minority is not happy with the direction doesn’t mean the silent majority share their sentiment. Even the “bad” MCU movies make more money than the “good” non-MCU movies. Why would they change drastically while that still holds true?

You know what? They broke my heart. There I said it. Marvel/Disney just broke my heart with this female Surfer bullshit. Yes, I am a nerd, yes, I have strong emotional ties to fictional characters. Why not? I’ve been reading them since I was 10 years old. When I was Kid and a Teen I could only dream watching my favorite characters appear all together in live action. For a while it was a reality, I loved the first movies but then they changed. I suffered many years because the Fantastic Four were not part of the origin of the MCU. It felt kinda wrong without them and now they finally have them and they pull this crap. 2 days ago I said enough. They dont seem to care for their original comicbook fans, they have showed us time and time again that we don’t matter, so why I watch their stupid movies then? I decided to stop, I am done. I dont even want to be around to see what bullshit they are gonna do with the X-Men, because we KNOW they are gonna do one of the biggest BS ever. No thanks. Pass.

I remember a What-if issue where Aunt May was the Silver Surfer.
And not only her. There are at least 5 female variants. They blame Disney, for allegedly "gender swapping", but they forget one thing: Stan Lee is the creator of all these variants.

Granted they could save him for a future project, but there's the chance Marvel may be stupid and ditch the idea due to the "patriarchy."

The biggest problem here is not the gender swap. The big problem here is that the public has turned away from Marvel movies and they are not coming back even if there would be a fantastically good movie in the future.

The Silver Surfer has been my favorite character since 1988 when I bought issue #16. I've been waiting for a good movie rendition. They just keep dropping the ball. The first movie had me watching Dr. Doom as the Silver surfer and the Power Cosmic was his board. Now he'll be a chick. Sad times

@@RognornYT Silver Surfer is not a mantle. It's the identity of Norrin-Radd upon being imbued with the Power Cosmic, and in some adaptations the nickname that's coined by the Fantastic Four's Human Torch.
Shalla-Bal was only a Herald in a one-shot comic (the Earth-X series); and she still dies. Juno is one of Galactus's Heralds that lasted longer than Shalla, and another Herald that happened to be a woman is Frankie Raye, AKA Nova.
- Shalla-Bal is Similar to the Silver Surfer. Galactus had many female heralds. But why put Norrin Radd on the bench, he is arguably one of the most popular characters Marvel has? Fans want the popular characters. BTW Julia Garner is amazing and a huge get for Marvel.
Shalla-Bal was only the Silver Surfer ONCE and was not a real herald of Galactus, as I said in the video.
But yes, I don't get why Norrin Radd couldn't be the focus.

@snarkyjay They could be trying g to save him for later. The film is likely meant to take place on an alternate earth, so there's a good chance the main surfer will be introduced later on.
Tbh while you have good takes, I'm thinking this one's a bit of a bad take. Yes, Shalla-Bal has only briefly been a silver surfer. However, she IS directly connected to the main one, so he will likely appear in a later film. Plus, if the surfer is meant to be killed by the end of the film, I'd much rather have shala bal be the one killed instead of the main one. Additionally, while this may be subjective, silver surfer isn't exactly the most major character in the comics, nor is he the only character to have been a herald of Galactus. Honestly, if they are trying to put a herald of galactic as the main villain, why not put a different one like Terrax, Stardust, or Firelord, as they are certainly more villainous than the silver surfer.
No, I am not shilling for disney. However, while there decisions disney has made that I dislike, this isn't one of them. Most likely this was a story based decision, not some "ESG" reason (which is just a buzzword these days).

honestly i'd rather them save norrin radd for the 616 because, by all accounts, this movie is supposed to take place in an alternate universe. so if they're gonna give us shalla-bal instead & leave her behind, then i don't see the problem. i don't think marvel studios is foolish enough to scrap the entire story of norrin radd in favor of shalla-bal...
& i liked she-hulk though, one of the only mature & most realistic portrayals of a woman hero in the MCU. i'm sorta rewatching the series (put it on before bed) & it's probably the funniest thing marvel has made yet. i don't understand why it's so divisive; it's just silly, same as the she-hulk comics.

Half of the superheroes are just that. Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Ironman, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Shazam, Spider-man, Spider-Woman, and many, many more had several people had the "mantle" changing hands before most of us were even born.

Did you watch the video? The problem isn't that they have Shalla-Bal in the movie, the problem is that Shalla-Bal is NOT the Silver Surfer. If you ask any random person to describe the Silver Surfer, they won't describe the Shalla-Bal version... or any female version. This would be like if the first Iron Man in their movies was Pepper Potts because she's been Iron Man at some point, or at least wore the suit. In fact, you could argue that Pepper is more Iron Man than Shalla-Bal is the Silver Surfer because she has certainly spent way more time in that suit.

I haven't heard anyone say that Shalla-Bal is a gender swap (outside of the Silver Surfer being a male character's identity that will now belong to a woman) or that they are creating a new character (I admittedly know very little about the Silver Surfer, but was told of who she is as this controversy developed). The only complaint I've heard is that they are going to have a Silver Surfer that isn't Norrin Rand (the guy that everyone pictures when they think of the Silver Surfer).
Even if you think they are complaining about the wrong thing (and most aren't), the only reason those who are mistaken are saying what they are saying is because Shalla-Bal is not the Silver Surfer anymore than Lois Lane is Superman or Steve Trevor is Wonder Woman.
Also, let's not for one second think that Marvel doesn't know exactly what they are doing here. This is a targeted middle finger at the fans. No one in their right mind thinks that Shalla-Bal is the superior Silver Surfer. There's literally no reason to do this other than to piss people off and swap a male character for a female one.

Hey Snarky Jay, love your videos. Have you seen some of the episodes of the X-men 97 series? I have always been much more of a DC fan then a Marvel fan. So i was never really extremely into the MCu but i really enjoyed some of the movies in the earlier phases. But X-men have always been my favorite and this series is absolutely blowing my mind, a perfect continuation and evolution of the 90s cartoon.
Finally someone gets it. Thank you!! I'm so still in disbelief they went with the Earth X version who was only in maybe 4 panels over the traditionally better known character whos been in cartoons, countless comics and a movie. Sigh.

Since they went through with the Silver Surfette, it's almost guaranteed now that they will make Reed a bumbling dufus that has to be saved by Sue all the time.
The videos here make publicity for them and we talk about Disney, yes, but we no longer go to watch their products and we no longer want to buy their products. So I guess because publicity doesn't do much good for them because it doesn't make them money, when they notice it's not working, they'll change.

I don't understand why Disney feels the need to push an agenda with some of their recent projects. If they just wrote good, comic-accurate stories with amazingly developed characters, than fans will genuinely be excited about those Marvel Projects. Disney will be losing more and more fans over time if they continue to push an agenda instead of making a good film.
Disney is saving me so much money! I was a sucker, throwing money at every marvel movie for years. Since end game..I haven't watched anything in theaters, and I have watched about 1 and a half spiderman movies...that's it! Thanks Disney!

Yes I am a Asian/White man over the age of 65, that is to date me to the 60's when I sat at the local drugstore reading Marvals Fantasic Four Comics as a child. I love the "new" technology bringing my favorite comic book heroes to the silver screen. But now everything is changed. White characters are now Black, Male heroes are now female (Luke SW vs SW-Rey). They have rebooted the FF at least twice. Why reboot them again? Plus you have to remember, The Plandemic stopped a lot of movie going and the movies still haven't caught up with the times.
I was waiting for the return of the Silver Surfer, but not like this! I will not be going to this. They have smashed the small boy expectations out of me. They did it to me in Star Trek, Star Wars, and now Marvel Movies!

Actually, Jay, I have a theory for why the Silver Surfer is female in the movie. For those who don’t know, the female Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie will most likely be Shalla-Bal, Norrin Radd’s wife. Shalla became the Surfer in another universe instead of Norrin. This makes sense considering that the movie will take place in another universe that’s not the mainstream MCU continuity that we’ve been following so far. There’s always the possibility of seeing Norrin Radd’s Surfer somewhere down the line. I hope I explained this as well as I can. Btw I love your FF outfit, Jay. It looks so beautiful ❤😁

Who cares if she was only in 1 comic. She's Canon whether you accept it or not. Hell Jessica Jones used Whizzer II, the dumbest version, and least liked but he was still there.

I used to own a physical copy of the comic where AUNT MAY became a herald of galactus for 1 issue, she was even called, GOLDEN OLDIE... makes just enough sense for Golden Oldie to be in the movie instead of this garbage!

Yellow Flash pointed out the Wikipedia tourists. People go on and find one instance of this character and them trumpet them as if they are the exact same when most real comic book readers don't even know who she is because her part was so small in the comics

I love how this is the biggest issue in the MCU right now! We all remeber how much highly acclaimed the last time the Surfer was on the big screen, and his beloved stint on the small screen... oh wait... we hated that too. Seems like we could use some new blood in the forumla, if it aint broke dont fix it... if it was brake still don't fix it? Herers to hoping we're all just being dissmissive and the story will have something new and interesting to offer

At one time I was an opening day customer. I was in the first showing for every MCU movie from probably Captain America: The First Avenger through Dr. Strange 2. Now, I'm waiting for reviews. It's all terrible. Guardians 3 and Loki Season 2 have been the only two exceptions since 2021. They have a chance to do better with Fantastic Four....I'm still not going to be first in line but if the reviews are decent, I"ll probably go.

What's crazy is marvel/Disney fail to realize both male and female characters were already loved the way they were created. You didn't need to swap genders or races because EVERYONE had a character they adored for their own reasons
