As a dad, I agree with your father that it is nonsense. But as a guy who plays golf as a hobby I know that most hobbies are pretty much nonsense so good for him encouraging you to do what you enjoy.

Attended a comicon last year in my Iron Man Mk17 Heartbreaker suit. Lots of photo ops with fans of all types. However, one moment was especially memorable. An older gentleman approached me and asked if I would take a photo with his son. I said, “Of course!” When I turned I noticed his son was a full grown man. He was special needs and this photo meant the world to him. Spent over two years working on that suit. My time suited up at the con was just over one hour due to armor pinch cutting the circulation off to my hand. However, that one photo made it all worthwhile.

I met Troy Baker once, he's pretty cool and nice, but getting surprise snuck up on by Troy Baker is like a whole new level of awesome and a once in a life time experience!

A real shame he never gets enough attention. Dude legit looks like someone you'd see in film or TV. But I guess one can argue that's what makes the person all the more impressive.

It just threw me off 😭 I normally have game but he was so sweet that I was lost.
@@snarkyjay he seems extremely genuine, from anything I've ever seen of his interviews and such. Just another awesome guy. He didn't deserve all the hate he got in the prequels, and I'm so happy for him that the SW fans have started to come around and love him and his portrayal of Anakin. He was very obviously touched by all the fan reactions to being brought back for/showing up in Kenobi and Ahsoka.

"You make a great Anakin." As a battle scarred convention veteran, I've had way too many similar moments.
The adrenaline is pumping, the person you've long admired is standing in front of you, and then all of a sudden, your brain just ninja rolls out of the back door. It kind of feels like being shoved in front of a podium and forced to give the speech that no one asked you to write.
Still, I bet every frequent convention attendee has at least one similar story.

Totally should have put your number on it. You should have gone to his next convention appearance after the covid barriers were gone and worn the dress again. Almost certain you could have landed a date.

You asked for us to share a story. Briefly, way back in 1996 I was stationed in VA with the Coast Guard. I took my family to a con in Charlotte, NC. My daughters were 5 and 7. We got to meet a very young Amanda Conner and she was kind enough to pose in a picture with my daughters. Fast forward to 2015 and my oldest is still living with me here in Maine. There was an upcoming con in Boston and Amanda was going to be there. We decided to go and present her with that picture. We were first in line and she greets us and my daughter presents her with the framed picture and explains where and how it was taken. Amanda got real quiet and her partner Jimmy Palmiotti got a strange look on his face watching Amanda react. I was internally freaking out because I thought something had gone wrong???
Turns out not, but something about that touched her and Jimmy started pulling out all sorts of special swag for us. I had a published book of her artwork to get signed and she filled the entire inside cover with a message for us. It was the best experience at any con we have had.

Thank you for sharing your convention adventures, Jay. I love the randomness that happens on convention weekends; my friends and I ran into voice actor Allan Oppenheimer at our hotel and we asked if we could get a photo with him. He said yeah and posed for photos with us and chatted with us for a few minutes. Wonderful guy. Also, we had Star Trek's Jonathan Frakes and Todd Stashwick at the restaurant table next to us in our hotel during last year's Calgary Expo. They said hi on their way out. I

You are really good at telling stories! Before I knew it the video was over and I was left wanting to hear about more of your fun adventures. The hayden christensen story was super cute and only a mad man wouldn't of appreciated the sentiment and effort you put into making that lake cosplay. More videos like this would be great! For my con/expo experience, I go there as an attendee because I like to look at vendors, meeting cosplayers and guests, and purchase souvenirs/items. When I went to Classic Game Fest in Austin, TX 2 years ago, I get to meet and interacting with the OG Mortal Kombat martial artist Master Daniel Pesina, he liked my Sub-Zero cosplay and he's a cousin who shared the first name as me. Also during that time, a beautiful cosplayer asked if she could take a photo with me, I'm happy to do so, and she and followed each other on Instagram. Then also met the other two cosplayers that I followed on their social medias, even one them said I'm their biggest fan. It's one of the best days I had! 😊

The thing I love about conventions is that if you go to enough you end up with a long list of unforgettable moments :) I was lucky enough to do convention security for about ten years here in the UK and met many incredible actors, directors and writers. Some were total assholes, some were amazingly warm and friendly. I have two stories, not to try and compete with Snarky at all as they probably are only meaningful to me, but ...
One con was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv show event. We had most of the main cast other than Sarah Michelle Gellar. On the Saturday, between main hall talks and autograph signings, so late afternoon, I ended up in James Marsters (who played Spike) hotel room along with Anthony Head (who played Giles) watching the soccer World Cup on his tv as they both smoked weed and drank whiskey ... I hasten to add I wasn't partaking of either, but anyone who has been in a room with someone smoking weed knows that second hand inhalation still makes you get the giggles, lol.
Second story is again really only memorable to me I suppose. A Stargate SG1 convention this time, we had all the main cast other than RDA who at the time didn't do cons. The year before I had been assigned to Teryl Rothery (Doctor Janet Frasier) as her security for the weekend and we really hit it off. For this event she had requested me again which I was more than happy to do. She brought her husband, a Mountie, with her and he was an amazing guy. But on the Friday afternoon as she arrives she walks in and in front of all the other staff and a lot of attendees screams my name, rushes me and throws herself into my arms, lol. I spin her and we hug and she is all smiles and so happy and I think that is possibly the most heart warming moment from a long career in security :)

That's cool that you give Tootsie rolls to fans. My grandpa used to have a glass bowl full of Tootsie rolls in his living room. I always tried not eating all of them, because that would be rude for anyone else who also wanted Tootsie rolls, but it was hard because they're my favorite candy.

Jay, I'm 60 yrs old and grew up with comics and super heroes and I love the cons and cosplays, you do a wonderful job. My daughter and I love to go to the cons so having your dad join you is awesome. My daughter makes her own costumes and sometimes gets the grandkids dressed too if they want and it's great. My best experience was meeting and getting pictures with Stan Lee several months before he passed away and the man was a true gentleman and professional.

Unfortunately I can’t afford to travel to out of state conventions unless they book me as a guest… and very few are willing to pay for that.

Believe me, I would be the first one to tell you that I would love to meet Troy Baker because I used to love his UA-cam show that he did with Mr. North because they used to talk about playing old video games and they would play some some of the video games and stuff like that. I’ve never been to a comic book convention or a con in general I would love to go don’t have that kind of money though unfortunately and it’s a little tough being disabled, but Troy Baker would definitely be on my bucket list for sure because we fall into the same or semi same age bracket so it would just be fun to be able to have five minutes just to talk to him about old stuff. Please keep up the good work on the content. You do an amazing job.
The best voice acting duo in video game history in my opinion was Nolan North and Troy Baker for Uncharted 4 A Thief s End. Sam and Nathan Drake was truly epic!! Love your video Snarky Jay looking foward for your video convention blogs !!

For me and my dad it was star trek conventions . One of the best times for me was when I met Mark Texxera and after two guys plop down about 100 comics each for him to sign he then draws a picture on the print I bought . He charged my friend $50 but because I told my friend I really wanted his autograph he drew a picture of Batman for free . I'm going to Texas frightmare in May and it's going to be awesome.
These are fun stories. I have not that much experience with conventions,
but i have a lot of similar stories about festivals. It seem to be crazy,
everytime a crowd of people comes together.

Always nice to see some appreciation for Troy Baker, he has a wonderful voice & he really does an have extensive resume. In addition to Batman, he also did a remarkable job portraying Joker in Arkham Origins. Ever since Final Fantasy XIII, anytime I hear his voice in anything I know it's going to be a performance I'll enjoy. He had some great, even iconic roles in anime too when he was still going those. Anyway, that's quite the anecdote, and a really funny picture too! Also, makes me happy to see the shift with fans towards Hayden, I always enjoyed his portrayal as Anakin and never really understood the sith like hate a lot of sw fans had for him.
Catwoman looked Amazing, definitely you need to do a Vampirella cosplay one day!!

I'm an oldie, I've been doing cons since early 00's. Same for cosplay. There are so many stories. But my favorite was a con I attended by proxy meaning I was working in a game store next to the convention center. It was a one-day event. Smash in Sydney Aus. I was leaving for the day to catch up with a mate and maybe check things out for the last couple of hours. My mate flags me down and they're surrounded by CoD cosplayers XDDD
They were upset cause I was finished and couldn't surprise me. I just smirked and went "Oh then do you wanna raid my store. I left my coworker in there alone."
The CoD-players were over the moon. They grabbed my friend and ran into the store shouting out "Freeze nobody move." My co-worker jumped then just stared at me "You almost had me if it wasn't for him." Yeah, one of the CoD-players was wearing a Deadmau5 head.
Thoroughly enjoyed this.
This binge-watching to catch up was a great idea after all.
The only conventions I've ever been to were Star Wars Celebration II & III. For II I was only able to go for a day. But for three I had a booth in the Fan section for a SW group I am in. I was able to get in before everything started and what is great is you get to meet some of these celebrities when they are not "on". As in before they put on their professional face and act the part. They are just their normal selves and you get to have these quick but normal conversations. It was a lot of fun and something I'd love to do again.
And that's why I don't go to cons. lol. But, seriously, aside from the bad things, meeting Troy and Hayden sounded so awesome.

What a very KOOL treat, a GREAT Recap of your Con Experiences, You look outstandly fantastic in the Padme cos-play, and that Cat Woman is truely eye catching. I go to several cons with my kids and grand kids every year, its funny at 62 I am very energetic and its tough for my kids and grand kids to keep up, figure that out. I love Cons and everything about them (except the Co-Vid experience that Sucked big time), I have met so many awesome people, celebs, cos players, youtubers and just cool con goers. I did do two Cons as Cap in WW2 battle Gear (I still have my US Marine gear, I have a WW2 Helmet and my cartridge belt with all the stuff) I picked up an Awesome heavy metal Cap sheld (weighs a wee bit). So many people wanted to take pictures of the SHIELD, just them holding the Shield. :) so I let them. The young ones I let them wear my helmet as well. I guess my fave story is with Gina Carano, I was cos playing as Chris Red Field (Resident Evil) and I get to walk up to Gina and I have two prints to get signed one for me and one for my partner (YUP) No I am not...... I am Married to a beautiful Puerto Rican Woman, The question comes Why Partner??? Yup, Natasha is my partner and co worker and she luvs Gina so i did her a solid. Gina figures it out very quickly and points at me... " your a cop, your redfield, oh thats cool I love Resident Evil I played it all the time, so your a real cop playing a fake cop." We started Laughing together and really got to talking, everything about what happened to her. I support her 100%, and told her so. She asked me what I did before I became a cop and I told her I joined the US Marines when I was 17 years old back in 1979. My MOS (job) was Infanrty 1371 Combat Engineer. I never thought about my life the way she made me think about it, Gina looked right at me and said, " Wow, You' re the real deal, Thank you for your service". I returned the compliment, I emphasized that she was the real deal, she is as you know, a mixed martial artists fighter a champion. That is no joke she is one tough Chica, but I will tell you this she is awesome and so down to earth what a sweetheart she truly is. Maybe one day I hope I will have the priveldge and honor to meet you at a con SJ, seriously I luv what you do, how you do it and that sense of messed up humor is friggan great. Power on Nina, becasue you ROCK!!!!
As a medical caregiver I hear a lot of weird pet stories. Legit felt that one!
I've always wanted to go to a convention. My son and myself are really into ghostbusters I'm making packs for the two of us. It's alot of work, I'd be totally down to see a video like that!
Love these "behind the scenes" stories. In particular the Padme / Anakin one was a lot of fun. (Should have left your number though)... another great Cuban saying is: para atrás?, ni para coger impulso! Meaning, don't look back, not even for motivation. Keep up the good work Prima Jay

Love this! Thanks for sharing your adventures! I love going to conventions! So many moments happen, and it's so hard to capture them all. These were great stories! There's always the good, bad, and the ugly. As they say "it can't rain all the time". I actually had the opportunity to help Ernie Hudson carry in Ghostbuster equipment at DC Awesome Con a few years ago. The coolest part is after all these years anytime I walk by his booth he still remembers me! I appreciate all your content 🙏 these are fun!

When you get the chance you HAVE to visit the New York Comic Con. It's the best comic convention in the United States in my opinion (yes I've also been to San Diego Comic Con). Very well organized and you can coordinate panels and events on their app. They also have a lot of great partner sponsored events with entertainment companies like Showtime, HBO and all the major studios. It's a destination event. I've gone every year since 2019 and always have the best experience. I HIGHLY recommend and I know the difference having gone to a lot of major comic conventions all over the country. Dope video!

Really enjoyed the behind the curtain normal life videos. So many awesome memories u got to experience. Always weird to see the people we watch out in public settings & not behind the normal camera lens. Also absolutely love the lightening in your videos. Been trying to figure out how u do it forever. Ahhh, the interesting times one can have at cons... Almost cut a finger off at MGC which required an ER visit which happened the evening before my 2,000 mile drive home. And had a few interesting lucky game finds at video game cons as well that were less entertaining stories. And a LOOOONG time ago at a comic con in Seattle met Boris Valeho & his wife Julie Bell. That was quite the experience (Short of it was Boris wasn't very pleasant and I pissed him off with the stuff i brought for him to sign. But Julie was super sweet).
Would love to say hi at a con but as I'm on the complete opposite corner of the country I'm not sure I'll ever attend a con you're at...
